Review of the Chinese species of the genus Varma Distant (Hemiptera,Fulgoromorpha, Tropiduchidae), with description of two new species

Two new species of Varma Distant, 1906, V. falcata Chang & Chen, sp. n. (China: Guizhou) and V. lobata Chang & Chen, sp. n. (China: Guizhou) are described and illustrated. The female genitalia of four speices including two known species are described and illustrated for the first time. The diagnostic characters of this genus are redefined. A checklist to the species of Varma in China is given. The Keys on male and female genitalia to the Chinese species of Varma are provided.

记述中国簇角飞虱属Belocera Muir 1新种:拟褐额簇角飞虱B. parafuscifrons sp. nov.,本新种与其近似种褐额簇角飞虱B. fuscifrons Chen, 2002的区别在于:阳茎直,端向略狭,端部具4个刺状突起,其右侧端突基部具1小齿;阳基侧突侧观端部2/5强烈弯曲,外端角角状。文章提供了成虫及雄、雌性外生殖器特征图,编制了属的分种检索表。研究标本保存在西北农林科技大学昆虫博物馆。     

Review of subgenus Compsochromia Kiriakoff 1953 (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Arctiinae,genus Balacra) with identification keys and description of a new species from Cameroon

Summary. Subgenus Compsochromia Kiriakoff 1953 is briefly reviewed. An overview of the taxonomic history of the group is provided along with a checklist covering all synonyms. Balacra flava n. sp. is described on the basis of eight specimens of both sexes collected in Cameroon. Three separate keys, based on male and female habitus as well as on the male genitalia, are presented for the determination of Compsochromia specimens. The vesica of B. compsa is described and illustrated for the first time.     

Revision of the genus Rhotala Walker, 1857 (Hemiptera: Fulgoroidea: Achilidae) in China,with description of a new species

The achilid genus Rhotala is taxonomically revised based on specimens from China. Four species are recognized in this paper as valid: R. vittata Matsumura, 1914; R. dimidiata Jacobi, 1944; R. fanjingshana Chen et Yang, 2008; and one new species: R. jiangxiensis sp. nov. (southern China: Jiangxi). Male genitalia of these species are described and illustrated. In addition, hind tibia, forewings and hindwings are illustrated for the male of R. jiangxiensis sp. nov. A diagnosis of the genus is redefined. A key to the species of Rhotala in China is presented.     

Revision of the genus Stichillus Enderlein of Japan (Diptera: Phoridae)

The genus Stichillus in Japan is revised. Three species are recognized: S. japonicus (Matsumura), S. spinosus Liu and Chou and S. cylindratus sp. nov. Stichillus brunneicornis Beyer is excluded from the Japanese fauna. These Japanese species are described and keyed. The male genitalia and the female terminalia are illustrated. Some unique characters of the male genitalia in the genus are reported, and morphology of the male genitalia and the female terminalia is discussed.     

中国白条小卷蛾属一新种记述（鳞翅目：卷蛾科：新小卷蛾亚科）

记述采自中国海南及台湾的白条小卷蛾属Dudua Walker 1新种,即平截白条小卷蛾D.trunciformis sp.nov.。该种与分布于印度尼西亚的D.brachytoma Diakonoff相似,但其雄性外生殖器抱器瓣末端的腹角圆钝,阳茎长度仅略大于宽度的2倍,具短刺状角状器;而后者抱器瓣末端的腹角角状,阳茎长度约为宽度的3倍,无角状器。     

Holcocera sakura (Lepidoptera: Gelechioidea; Coleophoridae, Blastobasinae), a new species from Japan, associated with Prunus

A new species, Holcocera sakura (Lepidoptera: Coleophoridae: Blastobasinae) that is associated with Prunus is described from Japan. This is the first record of the tribe Holcocerini from Japan. A photograph of the imago, and illustrations of wing venation and male and female genitalia are provided. The taxonomic position of this species is discussed.     

A new genus and a new species of Akicerinae (Orthoptera: Acridoidea: Pamphagidae) from Libya

A new genus, Neotmethis gen. n., with a new species, Neotmethis bidentatus sp. n., from the Fezzan Province of Libya is described and illustrated. A key to the Libyan genera of the subfamily Akicerinae is provided. Some additional characters of female genitalia at generic and species level are also provided.     

A taxonomic review of Rhabdocosma Meyrick (Lepidoptera,Ypsolophidae) with description of a new species from Japan

The Ypsolophid genus Rhabdocosma Meyrick is reviewed. It comprises two known species: R. aglaophanes Meyrick and R. dolini Gershenson, and one new species from Japan, R. nematopogonites Sohn, sp. nov. Photos of imagoes and male genitalia are provided for all three species of Rhadocosma. A close relationship between R. dolini and the new species, and its significance in the biogeography and world species diversity of Rhabdocosma, are discussed.     

A new species of Metaeuchromius (Lepidoptera,Crambidae) from the Tibetan glacier area of China

Metaeuchromius glacialis Li, sp. n. is described from the Tibetan glacier area of China. The new species is similar to Metaeuchromius circe Bleszynski by the distal projection of costa exceeding the apex of valva, and the phallus with strong spine-like cornuti in the male genitalia. Images of male adult, tympanal and scent organs as well as genitalia of the new species are provided.     

Systematic and morphological studies of the genus Chaetopleurophora Schmitz (Diptera: Phoridae) occurring in Japan

Japanese species of the genus Chaetopleurophora are reviewed. All belong to the C. erythronota group. The following three species from Japan are described: C. rhomboidea sp. nov., C. pygidialis Schmitz and C. dividua sp. nov. The male and female genitalia are studied and further examples of unique characters of the genus including asymmetric features are added. The male aedeagus of the genus is illustrated for the first time. The aedeagus of the species treated in this study consists of only two components, the inner core plate and the outer jacket plate. The jacket plate wraps sinistrally around the core plate. The combination of the core plate and the jacket plate forms complex, asymmetric features of the aedeagus in the Phoridae. The structure around the genital opening in the female genitalia protrudes posteriorly under the segment IX + X, and shows asymmetric features in C. rhomboidea sp. nov. with a bilaterally different degree of sclerotization, shifted genital opening to the right side and a membranous ribbon just on the left side. In addition, C. dividua sp. nov. is different from most of the species in the C. erythronota group, and very closely related to C. multiseriata (known in North America) in the male and female genitalia, wing venation and bristle formation on the scutellum. It is suggested that C. dividua sp. nov. forms a monophyletic group with C. multiseriata and the related species.     

Taxonomic studies on Zingiber (Zingiberaceae) in China VI: Z. leucochilum,a new species with running rhizome from Sichuan

Zingiber leucochilum L.Bai, ?korni?k. & N.H.Xia (Zingibereae, Zingiberaceae), a new species from southeastern Sichuan, China, is described and illustrated with a colour plate. Notes on ecology, distribution and a preliminary IUCN conservation assessment are also provided. The new species is assigned to Z . sect. Cryptanthium Horan. and compared to five morphologically similar species from China which share the characteristic well‐elongated and running rhizome, namely, Z. emeiense Z.Y.Zhu, Z. leptorrhizum D.Fang, Z. pauciflorum L.Bai, ?korni?k., D.Z.Li & N.H.Xia, Z. smilesianum Craib and Z. yunnanense S.Q.Tong & X.Z.Liu. A key to the above six species is provided and their distributions are mapped.     

Revision of the lygaeid genus Nysius (Heteroptera: Lygaeidae: Orsillinae) of Japan,with description of a new species

Japanese species of the lygaeid–orsilline genus Nysius were revised, and five species including a new species, N. hidakai, were recognized. Male and female genitalia of all the species were illustrated, and a key to species of Japanese Nysius was provided. The DNA barcoding information of each species except N. expressus were recorded.

记述中国圆斑小卷蛾属Eudemopsis 昆虫10种,其中包括1新种:狭瓣圆斑小卷蛾E. angustivalvae sp. nov.。该新种的体型较小,前翅长仅4.0-4.5 mm,雄性外生殖器中抱器瓣狭长,毛刺稀疏,很容易与属内其他种区分。文中还给出了分种检索表、新种的形态特征图和生殖器图以及该属种类在中国的地理分布图。研究标本保存在南开大学昆虫标本室。     

Study of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Phygasia</Emphasis> (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) from China,with descriptions of eight new species

Eight new species of Phygasia Chevrolat (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) are described from China, P. gracilicornis, P. nigricollis, P. parva, P. pseudomedia, P. pseudornata, P. simidorsata, P. suturalis and P. yunnana. A list and a key with distribution records to the 21 Chinese species of Phygasia are provided. Antennae, male and female genitalia of most species are illustrated. P. wittmeri Medvedev and P. potanini Medvedev are proposed as new synonyms of P. diancangana Wang and P. potanini Lopatin, respectively. P. pallidipennis Medvedev, 2004 is the homonym of P. pallidipennis Chen et Wang, 1980.     

A new species of the genus <Emphasis Type="Italic">Stathmopoda</Emphasis> (Lepidoptera: Stathmopodidae) closely related to the persimmon pest, <Emphasis Type="Italic">S. masinissa</Emphasis>, from Ryukyu Islands,Japan

A new species of the genus Stathmopoda from the Ryukyu Islands, Japan, is described. The new species is associated with Diospyros maritima Blume and is very similar to S. masinissa Meyrick, which is a notorious pest of persimmon, D. kaki L., in Japan and Korea. The adult external features, wing venation, and male and female genitalia of both species are illustrated and compared in detail.     

中国横皱叶蝉属一新种记述（半翅目：叶蝉科）

记述采集山西横皱叶蝉属1新种:黑面横皱叶蝉Oncopsis nigrofaciala sp. nov.。新种近似于黑带横皱叶蝉 O. nigrofasciata Xu, Liang & Li, 2006,但前者颜面大面积黑色,背连索中部的细长突起和阳茎的形状明显不同。     

Genital Morphology and Copulatory Mechanism in Zygaena trifolii (Esper, 1783) (Insecta,Lepidoptera, Zygaenidae)

The coremata and male genital structures together with the associated muscles of Zygaena trifolii are described and illustrated in detail. Of the female genitalia only the external parts are dealt with. The closure of the male coremata pouch was found to be effected by a special muscle. Mating pairs were quickly fixed while in copula and dissected afterwards in order to examine the mechanism of copulation. It turns out that the female is held by the male at three points: first, the gonopods (= valvae) grip the female abdominal tip laterally. Secondly, the praephallus together with the everted endotheca (= vesica) are tightly locked inside the female ductus bursae. Thirdly, female postvaginal structures become evaginated and are then held between the spined anellus and the eighth abdominal tergum of the male.
