A new species of the genusLaboulbenia, L. diplocheilae, has been established for specimens on the host genusDiplocheila (Coleoptera, Carabidae, Licinini).Laboulbenia diplocheilae is easily distinguished fromL. proliferans var.divaricata onChlaenius by the absence of a black constriction on the outermost branch of the outer appendage and by the simple stalks subtending grouped antheridia borne on appendage branches in the middle of the appendage system.  相似文献

Six carabidicolous species of Laboulbeniales are reported as new for the Japanese mycoflora. They areLaboulbenia finitima, L. separata, L. borneensis, L. manubriolata, Dimeromyces caribaeus, andDixomyces ornatus. In Japan, the former three species are parasitic onMochtherus luctuosus and the latter three species onPerigona nigriceps. Laboulbenia finitima occurs on the left legs (tarsi and tibiae);L. separata on the left elytral margin:L. borneensis on the pronotum;L. manubriolata on the pronotum and elytra;Dimeromyces caribaeus on the right inferior posterior surface of the prothorax (pronotal hypomeron); andDixomyces ornatus on the outer margin of the right elytron. Comments and photographs are given for each fungus.  相似文献

Four species ofLaboulbenia were isolated from Japanese chlaeniines and are reported.Laboulbenia habui is described as a new species; it is possibly related toL. fasciculata. Laboulbenia habui is characterized by the proliferation and division of cell V, resulting in the formation of an obliquely superposed series of cells from which short, cylindrical cells arise in a double row, whereas there is a single row of cubical cells inL. fasciculata. Laboulbenia humilis is new for the Japanese mycoflora; antheridia of this fungus were observed for the first time; shape of the perithecial apex, persistent antheridia and the spore size suggest thatL. humilis is not closely related toL. exigua and its related taxa. ForL. proliferans andL. fasciculata, new chlaeniine hosts are listed and some supplemental notes are given.  相似文献

Six carabidicolous species of Laboulbeniales are reported as new for the Japanese mycoflora. They areDixomyces stomonaxi, Laboulbenia picardii, L. tenera, L. slackensis, L. aristata andL. kwangjuensis. Two forms ofD. stomonaxi are distinguished, one form of which resemblesD. nigromarginatus. A remarkable ornamentation consisting of a coillike pattern occurs on the receptacle ofL. picardii. InL. tenera andL. slackensis, the outer appendage has somewhat constricted, blackened septa near the base.Laboulbenia aristata andL. kwangjuensis have spirally arranged outer wall cells. Antheridia were observed inL. tenera, L. slackensis, L. aristata andL. kwangjuensis.  相似文献

Three species of the genus Laboulbenia were recorded on Chydaeus bedeli (Coleoptera, Carabidae, Harpalini) from high-altitude localities in Asia. Laboulbenia obtusa was obtained from tarsi of the midlegs of the male hosts; Laboulbenia acrogeniodontis was on the margins of the elytra of the male and female hosts; and Laboulbenia polyphaga was on the elytra (near the apex) and the pronotum (at the base) of the male and female hosts. Each of the three species is distinct in the shape of the perithecia and the structure of the appendages.  相似文献

Translocation of [14C]gibberellic acid into antheridial cells of Chara vulgaris L. was investigated in relation to the presence of symplasmic connections between the antheridium and the thallus. It was found that manubria, capitular cells, and antheridial filaments were about three-fold more strongly labelled in young antheridia connected to the thallus by plasmodesmata than in older antheridia in which spontaneous symplasmic isolation had occurred. Plasmolytically induced symplasmic isolation of young antheridia severely diminished the radioactivity of all the cells, down to the level characteristic for spontaneously isolated antheridia. It is concluded that plasmodesmata are the main channel of gibberellin transport into antheridia. The change in the character of symplasmic connections during the course of morphogenesis might, among other events, constitute a signal determining a shift of cell metabolism in a new direction, in response to a rapid change in gibberellin level.Abbreviations GA(n) gibberellin (An) - GA3 gibberellic acid - IAA indole-3-acetic acid This study was supported by the Polish Academy of Sciences research project CPBP 04.01.5.05.  相似文献

Among 6 laboratory hosts tested, the egg-larval parasitoidChelonus blackburni Cameron completed its development in only 3;Corcyra cephalonica Stainton,Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller) andAchroia grisella (Fabricius). The parasitoid failed to develop inSpodoptera litura (Fabricius),Galleria mellonella L. andSitotroga cerealella (Olivier). The development period of the parasitoids obtained from permissive hosts correspond to the development period of their hosts. Development period ofP. operculella, A grisella andC. cephalonica were 24.7±2.0, 39.5±2.1 and 50.5±4.1 days respectively while the development period of the parasitoid reared from these hosts were 25.8±1.6, 36.4±3.5 and 42.5±3.5 days respectively. The fecundity of the parasitoids reared onA. grisella, P. operculella andC. cephalonica were 365.2±52.8, 287.9±101.9 and 248.7±50.8 respectively. The size of the parasitoids reared from the above 3 hosts also followed the similar trend. However, no significant difference was observed on the percent parasitism and the longevity of the parasitoids reared on different hosts. This study was conducted at a temperature of 24±2°C and 60±5% RH. Contribution No 46001 of Biological Control Centre (NCIPM), Bangalore.  相似文献

Laboulbenia ophioneae is described as a new species with illustrations. It is closely related to Laboulbenia celestialis and Laboulbenia asiatica because of some similarities in the morphology of appendages and perithecia. The present species from the latter two species can be distinguished by the shorter, inflated perithecia, the shorter receptacles, and the appendages consisting of more or less darkly colored, broader branches. This new species was found on elytra of Ophionea indica from Taiwan, which has been also known as a host of Laboulbenia polymorpha. A mature thallus noticed by Terada (2004) on the slide 673b (M. Ishikawa collection) and a young thallus illustrated by Sugiyama (1978, fig. 1-G as L. polymorpha) on 673d (M. Ishikawa collection) are both identified as L. ophioneae.  相似文献

TheLaboulbenia exigua group comprises seven species. Three of these species are described as new to science, and two new varieties ofL. exigua and one new variety ofL. balazucii are distinguished and described. New taxa areL. yamadae, L. consobrina, L. gebleri, L. exigua var.yaeyamae, L. exigua var.melanolabiata andL. balazucii var.exilis. This fungus group is characterized by grayish yellow to gray-brown thalli with simple inner and outer appendages, dark-spotted or streaked receptacles, and perithecia containing narrow ascospores 3–4–(–5) µm in width; the species and varieties occur onChlaenius (Carabidae) and closely allied taxa. The bilobed apex of mature perithecium, owing to the rounded apices of the posterior apical cells of the outer wall cell rows, and 3-celled, curved inner appendage in young thalli, and the deciduous antheridium are also characteristic of this group.  相似文献

Laboulbenia coneglanensis isolated from Japanese harpaline carabids is described and photographed. It is compared morphologically withL. flagellata from Japan and Europe, which is similar in appearance. The most important difference between the two species is in antheridial character and host range. Other characters such as coloration, perithecial shape, especially the shape of the perithecial apex, and size of ascospores are also useful for distinction.Laboulbenia ophoni var.dilatata described by Maire (1920) is regarded as a synonym ofL. coneglanensis.  相似文献

Sargassum muticum (Phaeophyceae, Fucales) has recently been introduced to Limfjorden (Denmark) where its closest relative is the indigenous Halidrys siliquosa. Previous studies have demonstrated large quantitative (canopy biomass) and qualitative (canopy persistence) differences in the habitat available to epibiota within the canopies of these two macroalgae. We therefore hypothesised that these algae would support different epibiota communities and tested this by sampling the epibiota of S. muticum and H. siliquosa on seven occasions throughout 1997 by enclosing entire thalli in mesh bags. We found 53 epibiota taxa and, with only one exception, they were all recorded on both host species. Species richness and abundance of epibiota exhibited clear seasonal variation on both host species, although epibiota biomass was seasonally constant on H. siliquosa but not on S. muticum. These patterns were consistent with the different life histories of the host species. There was a weakly negative correlation between thallus size and epibiota biomass for both host species. When taking species-specific seasonal variation in thallus size into consideration, S. muticum and H. siliquosa were found to support significantly different epibiota biomasses. Multivariate analyses showed that epibiota community structure was different, although highly overlapping, between the two species, whereas there was an almost parallel temporal development in epibiota community structure. We conclude that it is unlikely that the introduction of S. muticum to Limfjorden has caused major changes in local epibiota community structure. However, the standing stock of epibiota is likely to have increased.Communicated by H.-D. Franke  相似文献

Summary Promeristematic cells of theCystoseira thallus have been studied by transmission electron microscopy and cytochemistry in order to observe vacuole formation and development.Vacuolation seems to occur by different processes. Those here concerned involve the intervention of provacuolar formations, originating probably from G.E.R.L., in the sequestration of cytoplasmic materials. The sequestrated portion then undergoes a degradation. These observations agree with the processes recently reported in root meristematic cells of two higher plants:Euphorbia characias andHordeum sativum.  相似文献

Chaenotheca brunneola is lichenized withDictyochloropsis splendida. Until now this member of theChlorococcales has been observed only twice and free-living. It reproduces by motionless daughter cells in the lichen thallus, but mainly by zoospores in the free-living state and under favourable conditions. Zoospore development has not been observed before and apparently depends on storage of starch which is repressed in the lichenized state. During zoospore activity this storage material is consumed. Zoospores possess two flagella which are inserted rather far apart from each other, one pulsating vacuole and a cup-shaped, not latticed chloroplast.Chaenotheca phaeocephala var.alpina, Ch. melanophaea andCh. chrysocephala are lichenized withTrebouxia. The phycobiont ofCh. chrysocephala, Trebouxia simplex, sp. n., differs from other sibs of the genus by the relative small size of the cells, the less marked differentiation of the chloroplast and certain details of cell division.

The geographic distributions of many generalist herbivores differ from those of their host plants, such that they experience coarse-grained spatial variation in natural selection on characters influencing adaptation to host plants. Thus, populations differing in host use are expected to differ in their ability to survive and grow on these host plants. We examine host-associated variation in larval performance (survivorship, development time, and adult body weight) and oviposition preference, within and between two populations ofStator limbatus (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) that differ in the hosts available to them in nature. In one population,Acacia greggii (Fabaceae: Mimosoideae) andCercidium microphyllum (Fabaceae: Caesalpininoideae) are each abundant, while in the second population onlyC. floridum andC. microphyllum are present. In both populations, egg-to-adult survivorship was less than 50% onC. floridum, while survivorship was greater than 90% onA. greggii. Most of the mortality onC. floridum occurred as larvae were burrowing through the seed coat; very low mortality occurred during penetration of the seed coat ofA. greggii. Significant variation was present between populations, and among families (within populations), in survivorship and egg-to-adult development time onC. floridum; beetles restricted toCercidium in nature, without access toC. floridum, survived better and developed faster onC. floridum than beetles that had access toA. greggii. Large host effects on body size were detected for female offspring: females reared onA. greggii were larger than those reared onC. floridum, whereas male offspring wee approximately the same size regardless of rearing host. Trade-offs between performance onC. floridum andC. floridum were not detected in this experiment. Instead, our data indicate that development time and survivorship onC. floridum may be largely independent of development time and survivorship onA. greggii. Patterns of oviposition preference corresponded to the observed patterns of host suitability: in laboratory preference tests, beetles with access toA. greggii in nature tended to prefer this host more than beetles without access to this host in nature.  相似文献

The endoparasitoidCoptera haywardi(Ogloblin) (Diapriidae) was discovered in Mexico attacking the pupae of the Mexican fruit fly,Anastrepha ludens(Loew). Typically, parasitoids of Diptera Cychlorrhapha pupae develop as ectoparasitoids and are generalists that attack hosts in a number of families. Aspects of the bionomics ofC. haywardiwere compared to those of two chalcidoid ectoparasitoids,Dirhinus himalayanusWestwood andSpalangia geminaBoucek.C. haywardideveloped in three genera of Tephritidae, but not in species of other families. The two species of chalcidoids developed in all the calypterate and acalypterate hosts to which they were exposed. In an olfactometerC. haywardipreferredAnastrepha suspensa(Loew) pupae, while the chalcidoids preferred the pupae ofMusca domestica L.This preference inS. geminawas diminished in insects that had been reared onA. suspensa. C. haywardioviposited in theA. suspensapupae that had been previously parasitized by the braconidDiachasmimorpha longicaudata(Ashmead). However, it completed development only in unparasitized pupae. Mortality of the primary parasitoid due toD. himalayanuswas approximately two-thirds the mortality inflicted on the host fly.S. geminadid not discriminate between parasitized and unparasitized pupae ofA. suspensaand developed in both.C. haywardiappears to have a more restricted host range relative to chalcidoid pupal parasitoids and this may be due to its endoparasitic development.  相似文献

The generic names of the brown algaeMyagropsis, Cystoseira andCystophyllum have been used in Japan, Korea and China for a small group of seaweeds whose limits have not been clearly understood. Studies on the development of the eggs and subsequent germlings show that substantial differences occur betweenCystoseira andMyagropsis. Myagropsis Kützing is distinguished fromCystoseira C. Agardh by the following characteristics: (1) the tongue cell is undivided during development of the conceptacle; (2) paraphyses are projected from the conceptacle ostiole and become entangled; (3) during development, oospore germlings are mixed among paraphyses projecting from the ostiole; (4) oospores are large, with eight nuclei at maturity; (5) thirty-two primary rhizoids are produced on the germlings; and (6) the thallus is bilateral in organization. The shape and size of vesicles, their formation, and the presence of cryptostomata have been used as specific characters, but their use cannot be continued. It is concluded that the genusMyagropsis is monotypic, with a single species,M. myagroides (Turner) Fensholt. The status of this species is also discussed.  相似文献

Utilization of nutrients at different stages of development was examined for the xylophage,Homalodisca coagulata (Say). Survivorship and consumption rates of second-instar, fourth-instar and adult leafhoppers were measured daily on the hostsLagerstroemia indica L. andEuonymus japonica Thumb. Rates of consumption, assimilation efficiencies and daily assimilation of nitrogen, carbon, and individual organic compounds were calculated based on chemical analyses of xylem fluid and insect excreta. Gross growth efficiencies of diet utilization were also estimated by comparing biomass of young adults to estimates of nutrient utilization of the two host species. Different instars survived and utilized nutrients at varying rates on the two hosts. Second-instar leafhoppers survived at higher rates and utilized nitrogen more efficiently onE. japonica than onL. indica. However, assimilated nitrogen was much less as a result of lower consumption rates. In contrast, adults onL. indica had increased longevity, utilized carbon more efficiently, and assimilated higher quantities of both carbon and nitrogen than those onE. japonica. Efficiencies of nutrient utilization were high forH. coagulata compared to folivores or phloem feeders, particularly in the conversion of ingested nutrients to assimilated compounds. Variations in diet utilization during development are discussed in terms of polyphagy.  相似文献

The acceptability of three widely distributed Australian Menispermaceae,Tinospora smilacina Benth.,Sarcopetalum harveyanum F. Muell. andStephania japonica (Thunb.) Miers, as food for larvae of the fruitpiercing moth,Othreis fullonia (Clerck), was examined in three laboratory experiments. When larvae were presented with plant species individually total development times were shortest onT. smilacina and longest onS. japonica, despite relatively similar consumption rates within most instars.T. smilacina elicited greater (P<0.05) relative growth rates thanS. japonica in all instars except the 6th. In the second experiment, when larvae were allowed to select from each of the 3 plants, noS. japonica was chosen by 1 st instars and it represented only 3.7% of food consumed by 2nd instars. Significantly moreT. smilacina was eaten in each instar thanS. japonica, and more thanS. harveyanum except in the 2nd and 4th instars. The final experiment examined the abilities of larvae to switch hosts when forced after the 1st and 3rd instars. After the first or second food change largest average headcapsule widths were associated with feeding onT. smilacina as the most recent food. Feeding by final instars onT. smilacina also resulted in the shortest development time and highest puparial weights. While some larvae survived irrespective of plant sequence 83.3% of the recorded mortality occurred while larvae were exposed toS. japonica, principally during the 1st instar. These experiments lend support to field observations which suggest thatT. smilacina is a major host ofO. fullonia whileS. japonica is notS. harveyanum is probably an important alternate host whenT. smilacina is scarce.  相似文献

Lydella thompsoni Hertin,Tachinidae, is an endoparasitoid frequently associated in southern France with larvae ofOstrinia nubilalis, Pyralidae, Sesamia nonagrioides, Noctuidae, Archanara geminipuncta andA. dissoluta, Noctuidae. The tachinid was reared successfully at 21°C in the laboratory by providing the adult flies with a high humidity, a light intensity of 8,000–10,000 lux for mating and a mixture of casein proteolysate and honey as food. Under such conditions, the flies lived for about 30 days and about half of them mated successfully. Hosts were infested by dissecting mature tachinid females and placing 1–2 of the extracted planidia onto each moth larva. Half of the planidia successfully entered their larval hosts. The biology of the tachinid larvae was studied on the 2 main hosts,O. nubilalis andS. nonagrioides. At 21°C, 25°C and 28°C, larval development took less time onO. nubilalis than onS. nonagrioides. At 25°C, female larvae onO. nubilalis required 9.0±0.5 days and onS. nonagrioides 10.5±0.3 days, male larvae onO. nubilalis required 8.3±0.5 days and onS. nonagrioides 10.6±0.3 days. Pupal duration was also influenced by the larval host. In winter, 2nd instar larvae ofL. thompsoni enter a resting or quiescent condition. This condition is terminated sooner (December–January) in larvae developing onS. nonagrioides than in those developing onO. nubilalis (February–March). The life cycle of the tachinid in the field was studied by trapping flies in water dishes and by collecting parasitized host larvae from various plants. Flies were caught from April to October, mainly in September. Larvae of the spring generation of the parasitoid developed on larvae of species ofArchanara that fed on the reed,Phragmites communis. From 1976 to 1982, parasitism averaged about 16%. Parasitism by summer generation onS. nonagrioides was highest (4–5%) in June. Parasitism ofO. nubilalis did not change by more than 2 fold in either of the 2 summers studied (10–17 % in 1981, 6–10 % in 1982). By September the numbers of host larvae had increased to 10–20 times the number available earlier in the season. Larval populations ofL. thompsoni similarly increased from 3–400 larvae per ha in June to 4–5,000 per ha in September. The stability of the relationship between this parasitoid and its hosts in southeastern France is discussed and compared to relationship described elsewhere.  相似文献
