Summary The mature vesicle of the Hippophaë rhamnoides root nodule endophyte is spherical, approximately 3–4 m in diameter and exhibits a high degree of apparently random septation. Electron micrographs are presented which show that this vesicular form in the endophytic development within the host cell originates as a swelling of the hyphal tip. The young vesicle is non-septate and in general attains a minimum diameter of 3 m before septation becomes evident. The number of septa then increases with vesicle maturity.  相似文献

The role of chloride in the manganese-containing oxygen-evolving complex of Photosystem II has been studied by observing the amplitude of the multiline EPR signal as a function of Cl concentration or when Cl is replaced by Br or F. The correlation of the multiline EPR signal intensity and O2 activity with the concentration of Cl shows that chloride is involved in oxygen evolution at the S2 or earlier S states, and that it is necessary for the production of an EPR-detectable S2 state. We have developed a new method for the preparation of subchloroplast PS II particles containing Br and F) and have used these particles for studying the EPR fine structure at high resolution. The fine structure shows a multiplet of 4–6 lines with 10–15 G spacing; at the resolution of our experiment there are no significant differences between the Cl-and Br-containing samples, suggesting that the halide is not a ligand of the EPR-active Mn. Various structural possibilities for the Mn complex, which would account for the observed fine structure of the multiline EPR spectrum are discussed.  相似文献

Summary The time required for each of 50 honeybees to forage from a hairy vetch blossom, and the time required for each bee that tripped blossoms to trip a different blossom was measured three times each in two fields. There were highly significant differences in the speed with which bees tripped and foraged from blossoms in the two fields. It appeared that the blossoms in one field were easier to trip than the blossoms in the other. The bees spent less time foraging from the blossoms in the field in which tripping was most rapid, probably because there was less nectar in the blossoms in that field than in the other field. The bees that did not trip blossoms foraged from blossoms more rapidly than the bees that did trip the blossoms. After all known sources of variation had been removed there was a highly significant correlation between the times required for bees to trip and to forage from blossoms; this is interpreted as indicating differences in the efficiency of individual bees. In one of the fields many of the bees foraged through punctures in the blossoms made by carpenter bees. The role of dinB gene in the appearing of antibiotics resistance was studied. Plasmid containing multi-copy dinB gene was transfected into E. coli to create an overexpression. The strains carrying multi-copies of dinB gene demonstrate a significant survival advantage over the wild strain. In vitro experiment, the dinB-overexpressed strain evolved resistance within 8 hours, while wild strain could not.In vivo experiment with mice model infected with dinB-overexpressed strain, resistant clones emerged significantly earlier and demonstrated significant higher level of resistance than those infected with the wild control strain. The results showed that dinB gene made a contribution in the appearing of the antibiotics resistance and has a potential as a target for prevention from the appearing of antibiotic resistance.  相似文献

Alcoholism has complex etiology and there is evidence for both genetic and environmental factors in its pathophysiology. Chronic, long-term alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence are associated with neuronal loss with the prefrontal cortex being particularly susceptible to neurotoxic damage. This brain region is involved in the development and persistence of alcohol addiction and neurotoxic damage is likely to exacerbate the reinforcing effects of alcohol and may hinder treatment. Understanding the mechanism of alcohol’s neurotoxic effects on the brain and the genetic risk factors associated with alcohol abuse are the focus of current research. Because of its well-established role in neurodegenerative and neuropsychological disorders, and its emerging role in the pathophysiology of addiction, here we review the genetic and epigenetic factors involved in regulating α-synuclein expression and its potential role in the pathophysiology of chronic alcohol abuse. Elucidation of the mechanisms of α-synuclein regulation may prove beneficial in understanding the role of this key synaptic protein in disease and its potential for therapeutic modulation in the treatment of substance use disorders as well as other neurodegenerative diseases.  相似文献
