Three new species of Neotibilis Grazia & Barcellos are described from Brazilian Amazon region and Ecuador, based on general and genital morphology: Neotibilis (Neotibilis) claviformis sp. nov., Neotibilis (Neotibilis) ecuadorensis sp. nov. and Neotibilis (Neotibilis) manauara sp. nov. Illustrations and a key to species of the type subgenus are given. The range of Neotibilis is expanded, with new records for N. (N.) biguttata (Walker)--Brazil (Amazonas) and N. (N.) chiapensis (Thomas & Brailovsky)--Brazil (Roraima and Pará).  相似文献

To assess seasonal changes in phytoplanktonic chlorophyll distributions in Amazon floodplain lakes, a linear mixing model was applied to Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) reflectance data acquired at four river stages: rising (April), high (June), decreasing (September), and low (November). The study area is located in a floodplain reach from Parintins (Amazonas) to near Almeirim (Pará). A three-end-member mixing model designed to uncouple three fractions [high suspended inorganic matter (ip), low inorganic suspended matter (w), and high chlorophyll a (Chl)] was tested in Lake Curuaí (1.5°S 55.43°W) based on field sampling done almost concurrently with satellite overpasses. During high water, phytoplankton patches are confined to lakes closer to terra firme under the influence of clear water inflow, whereas during the low and decreasing water stages, the patches are more evenly distributed over the floodplain.  相似文献

In the Brazilian Amazon, American tegumentary leishmaniasis (ATL) is endemic and presents a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations due, in part, to the circulation of at least seven Leishmania species. Few reports of Leishmania (Viannia) naiffi infection suggest that its occurrence is uncommon and the reported cases present a benign clinical course and a good response to treatment. This study aimed to strengthen the clinical and epidemiological importance of L. (V.) naiffi in the Amazon Region (Manaus, state of Amazonas) and to report therapeutic failure in patients infected with this species. Thirty Leishmania spp samples isolated from cutaneous lesions were characterised by multilocus enzyme electrophoresis. As expected, the most common species was Leishmania (V.) guyanensis (20 cases). However, a relevant number ofL. (V.) naiffi patients (8 cases) was observed, thus demonstrating that this species is not uncommon in the region. No patient infected withL. (V.) naiffi evolved to spontaneous cure until the start of treatment, which indicated that this species may not have a self-limiting nature. In addition, two of the patients experienced a poor response to antimonial or pentamidine therapy. Thus, either ATL cases due to L. (V.) naiffi cannot be as uncommon as previously thought or this species is currently expanding in this region.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The vocal repertoire of Amazona amazonica during its breeding season has been recorded from wild individuals in Santa Bárbara do Pará, Pará State, Brazil. At individual nests, we continuously recorded vocalizations and behaviour for four hours in the early morning and three hours in the late afternoon, three times a week throughout the breeding season. We identified nine vocalizations that we classified in three behavioural categories: (1) Flight call—emitted when parrots arrive in the nest area; (2) Perched contact calls—two different vocalizations, one of them related to feeding, were emitted when the pair was perched in the nest area and interacted socially between themselves or with other individuals; (3) Aggressive calls—emitted when birds were in a dangerous situation, i.e. alarm (three types of calls), agonistic contact and distress calls (two types of call). The Orange-winged Parrot is a highly social species and the complexity of its social interactions is reflected in the diversity of its vocal repertoire.  相似文献

A leishmanial parasite isolated in 1977 from a specimen of the sandfly Lutzomyia tuberculata from Pará State, Amazonian Brazil, has been characterized following its comparison with other species of Leishmania from the same region, using isoenzyme profiles, monoclonal antibodies and characterization of the miniexon gene repeat, using the polymerase chain reaction technique (PCR). It is described here under the name of Leishmania (Viannia) utingensis n. sp.  相似文献

Dexosarcophaga tupinamba n. sp. is described based on male specimens from the Brazilian states of Pará and Maranhão; Dexosarcophaga bermudezi Silva & Mello-Patiu is newly recorded from Pará and South America; and Dexosarcophaga avispaensis Mello is newly recorded from Pará (new to Brazil). The Brazilian species Dexosarcophaga limitata (Lopes) and Dexosarcophaga pusilla (Lopes) are both recorded from Pará, which are new records from the Brazilian Amazon, Dexosarcophaga aurifacies (Lopes) is newly recorded from the state of Alagoas and Dexosarcophaga carvalhoi (Lopes) is newly recorded from the states of Mato Grosso, Maranhão, and Pará. A key to the identification of males of the subgenus Bezzisca is provided.  相似文献

Among pests that have recently been introduced into the Americas, the red palm mite, Raoiella indica Hirst (Prostigmata: Tenuipalpidae), is the most invasive. This mite has spread rapidly to several Caribbean countries, United States of America, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia and Brazil. The potential dispersion of R. indica to other regions of South America could seriously impact the cultivation of coconuts, bananas, exotic and native palms and tropical flowers such as the Heliconiaceae. To facilitate the development of efficacious R. indica management techniques such as the adoption of phytosanitary measures to prevent or delay the dispersion of this pest, the objective of this paper was to estimate the potential geographical distribution of R. indica in South America using a maximum entropy model. The R. indica occurrence data used in this model were obtained from extant literature, online databases and field sampling data. The model predicted potential suitable areas for R. indica in northern Colombia, central and northern Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, east French Guiana and many parts of Brazil, including Roraima, the eastern Amazonas, northern Pará, Amapá and the coastal zones, from Pará to north of Rio de Janeiro. These results indicate the potential for significant R. indica related economic and social impacts in all of these countries, particularly in Brazil, because the suitable habitat regions overlap with agricultural areas for R. indica host plants such as coconuts and bananas.  相似文献

Developmental stages of a haemogregarine in erythrocytes of the lizard Ameiva ameiva (Teiidae), from Pará State, north Brazil, were shown to be those of Hemolivia by the nature of the parasite's sporogonic cycle in the tick Amblyomma rotondatum. The type species, Hemolivia stellata Petit et al., 1990 was described in the giant toad Bufo marinus and the tick Amblyomma rotondatum, also from Pará State, and in view of the fact that A. ameiva and Bufo marinus share the same habitat and are both commonly infested by A. rotondatum, the possibility that the parasite of A. ameiva is H. stellata had to be considered. Uninfected lizards fed with material from infected ticks taken from B. marinus, and others fed with liver of toads containing tissue-cysts of H. stellata, were shown to subsequently develop typical Hemolivia infections, with all stages of the development similar to those seen in the naturally infected lizards. Conversely, a juvenile, uninfected toad became infected when fed with sporocysts of Hemolivia in a macerated tick that had fed on an infected A. ameiva and pieces of liver containing tissuecysts from the same lizard. The remarkable lack of host specificity shown by H. stellata, in hosts so widely separated as an amphibian and a reptile, is discussed.  相似文献

Eight cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis are recorded among soldiers of the Brazilian Forest Infantry stationed in Belém, State of Pará, north of Brazil. The infections, all acquired during manoeuvres in nearby degraded primary forest, are attributed to a new member of the subgenus Viannia, Leishmania (V.) lindenbergi n. sp. A further infection by this parasite was encountered in a woman, who lived very close to the same piece of forest. The new parasite has been characterised and differentiated from other known species of the subgenus Viannia following the combined use of enzyme electrophoresis and monoclonal antibodies techniques. The eco-epidemiology of L. (V.) lindenbergi is discussed: by far the most abundant anthropophilic sandfly in the type locality was identified as Lutzomyia (Nyssomyia) antunesi (Coutinho), and this remains high on the list of possible vectors.  相似文献

Monoclonal antibodies were raised against Leishmania (Viannia) naiffi, which recently has been characterized as a new species. BALB/c mice were immunized with membrane-enriched fractions of a mixture of L. (V.) naiffi isolates. Subsequent fusion of immunized splenocytes with NS-1 myeloma cells resulted in the production of 5 Mabs (N1-N5). Screening by ELISA and indirect immunofluorescence against an extensive cross-panel of Leishmania strains revealed that N3 was species-specific and could thus be used to identify L. (V.) naiffi. N2 and N5 reacted only with strains of L. (V.) naiffi and Leishmania (Viannia) braziliensis, and therefore could be used in conjunction with N3 to identify L. (V.) braziliensis parasites. These species-specific Mabs will therefore be useful additions to the panel of antibodies already available for the identification of Leishmania species. N1 and N4 were found to recognize a small, glycosylated molecule present on all L. (V.) naiffi and L. (V.) braziliensis isolates that is related to the GIPL family of membrane glycophospholipids previously described for Leishmania (Leishmania) major.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to report the presence of a three non‐native hybrid long‐whiskered catfishes (family Pimelodidae) in the Upper Paraná River basin, Brazil. Genetic analyses demonstrated that the three presumptive hybrids were a result of the crossbreeding of Pseudoplatystoma reticulatum (central Amazonas River basin and Lower Paraná River) and Leiarius marmoratus (Amazonas, Essequibo and Orinoco rivers), producing a hybrid commonly known in Brazil as cachandiá. The potential threat to biodiversity, due to possible genetic contamination, competition and predation of wild stocks, of such artificially produced hybrid fishes is discussed.  相似文献

Three novelties inCuphea sectionMelvilla subsect.Pachycalyx are described from Brazil;C. andersonii andC. cylindracea from Pará, andC. sabulosa from Amazonas. An annotated key to the 47 species ofCuphea sectionMelvilla is provided, the first since the 1903 monograph of the family, which then included 27 species in the section. Two new species of Miconia from northern Amazonia area described. Miconia amapaënsis has been collected in the Brazilian state of Amapá and in nearby locations in northern Pará and southern French Guiana. It has remarkable seeds, with both the appendix and seed coat covered with long papillae. Miconia forzzae has been collected on the Brazilian side of the Neblina Massif, in the Brazilian state of Amazonas, close to the border with Venezuela. It has 4-merous flowers, with a terete hypanthium, yellow stamens, the ovary apex with unbranched trichomes, and a punctiform stigma. This species may be endangered, considering its narrow distribution, and the fact that it was collected between 2000 and 2100 m elevation in an isolated mountain range with no neighboring mountains with similar height, but we assess its conservation status as “data deficient”, due to a lack of knowledge on the situation of the populations and the number of individuals.  相似文献

The susceptibility of Anopheles aquasalis (F3 generation) and An. darlingi (F1 generation) to Plasmodium vivax circumsporozoite protein phenotypes from a limited number of blood samples of malaria patients in Belém, state of Pará, Brazil, was examined A polymerase chain reaction was used to determine the P. vivax phenotypes in blood samples and the blood-fed infected mosquitoes were dissected and tested by ELISA. Five highly polimorphic microsatellite markers for Symphonia globulifera were developed from enriched repeat libraries screened for microsatellite repeats. An average of 5.8 alleles per locus and expected heterozygosity ranging from 0.649 to 0.806 were found in a sample of 12 S. globulifera individuals from the Tapajos National Forest, in the state of Pará in the Brazilian Amazon. These loci are being used for analysis of precise paternity testing, estimation of gene flow and parentage coefficients in a managed forest in Pará, Brazil, as part of the Dendrogene Project.  相似文献
