Elatine paramoana, a new species from the high Andean region of the Cordillera Oriental in Colombia, is described, illustrated, and compared to its nearest relatives,E. ecuadoriensis andE. fassettiana. Morella chevalieri is described as new and is illustrated; it grows in the Andes in northern Argentina and southern and central Bolivia. A key that differentiates this new species from the monoeciousMyrica pubescens is presented. The dioecious Morella chevalieri is characterized by the following: leaf blade elliptic to narrowly elliptic, margin serrate (at least in the distal 2/3); staminate flowers with one or no secondary bracts (if present, linear or band-shaped) and secondary bracts in the pistillate flower 2–3 (seldom 4).
Resumen  Se describe e ilustra aMorella chevalieri como nueva especie; se distribuye en los Andes de la parte norte de Argentina y de las partes sur y central de Bolivia. Se presenta una clave que diferencia a esta nueva especie de la monóicaMyrica pubescens. La dióica Morella chevalieri se reconoce por los siguientes caracteres: lámina de la hoja elíptica o angostamente elíptica, margen aserrada (al menos en las dos terceras partes distales); flores estaminadas sin o con una bráctea secundaria (esta con forma linear o acintada) y brácteas secundarias de la flores pistiladas de 2 a 3 (raramente 4).

Dacryodes uruts-kunchae is described, illustrated, and contrasted with D. steyermarkii. It is from white-sand plateaus and slopes of the sub-Andean cordilleras east of the Eastern Cordillera of the Andes in Ecuador, and from eastern foothills of the Andes in Peru. The new species is unusual for a number of reasons: (1) relatively few Burseraceae are found in tropical pre-montane and montane habitats; (2) it is dominant where it occurs, a rare phenomenon for Neotropical Dacryodes; (3) its staminate flowers show three stages in the transition from disk+pistillode to “ovariodisk”; and (4) it has relatively small, densely glandular-punctate, sclerophyllous leaflets.  相似文献

A new species of Boeckella from limnetic samples of Laguna del Diamante, a high lake in the Andes (34°10 S) is described and illustrated. The species is defined by the characters of the male fifth leg: the right two segmented endopod bears four peculiar, short, claw-like spines, the left endopod is a simple finger-like projection. This species is related to B. gibbosa, also a species from the Andes and B. vallentini from Malvinas (Falkland Islands) and other subantarctic islands. It is distinguished from them by diagnostic features of the fifth legs of the male and abdominal structure and fifth legs of the female. Some current views on the features used in the taxonomy of the genus Boeckella are discussed.  相似文献

Summary With 11 currently recognised species, the genusEriocnemis (Reichenbach, 1849) is one of the most diversified Andean trochilid groups occupying mainly open montane habitats such as the edges of cloud forest or páramos. On the basis of distributional and morphological patterns, this study highlights the geographical variation and biogeography of the taxon. Characteristics common to all these species are the greenish dorsal plumage, the conspicuous and mostly whitish tibial tufts, and a fairly pronounced tail bifurcation. With the help of plumage synapomorphies for a cladistic analysis (PAUP*), several species groups or superspecies can be distinguished: theE. vestitus group (incl.E. vestitus, E. godini, E. nigrivestis), theE. luciani group (incl.E. luciani, E. cupreoventris, E. sapphiropygia), and theE. alinae group (incl.E. alinae, E. mirabilis).E. glaucopoides, E. mosquera, andE. derbyi differ quite widely in morphology and ecological requirements from the other species. Three new subspecies are described,E. vestitus arcosi from southern Ecuador and northern Peru, andE. luciani baptistae from central and southern Ecuador. A previously overlooked specimen ofE. luciani from the Andes of Mérida represents the first species record for Venezuela, about 1100 km northeast of the main population range, and should be recognised taxonomically asE. luciani meridae, subsp. nov., on the basis of its unique plumage morphology and geographical separation. Additionally, the unique type ofE. ventralis (Salvin, 1891) is probably of hybrid origin (E. vestitus × cupreoventris). The genus may have evolved in the northern Andes, subsequently spreading southward and invading the central Andes. This revision describes, illustrates and documents morphological variation inDoniophyton (Compositae, Barnadesioideae), restricted to Argentina and Chile. Two species are recognized,D. anomalum andD. weddellii (sp. nova), possessing distinct morphological and chromosomal features, elevational tolerances, and nearly allopatric distributions.Doniophyton weddellii occurs primarily in central to northern Andean Chile and Argentina from 1900–4000 m a. s. l.;D. anomalum is found principally in centralwestern Argentina and south into Patagonia at 0–1800 m a. s. l. Close relationship exists withChuquiraga of subfam.Barnadesioideae. It is hypothesized thatDoniophyton evolved out ofChuquiraga in the high central Andes between Chile and Argentina. It is suggested thatD. weddellii differentiated first, correlating with an aneuploid chromosomal decrease from n = 27 (inChuquiraga) to n = 25. Further evolution and chromosomal decrease to n = 24 resulted inD. anomalum, with accompanying migration into southern Andes and Patagonia. Nomenclatural changes result from examination of protologues and type specimens:Doniophyton anomalum replaces the commonly used nameD. patagonicum, and a new species,D. weddellii, is described for the taxon masquerading under the routinely used superfluous nameD. andicola. Systematic studies of scirpoid species in the Andes showed the necessity to exclude one species each from Scirpus and Carex. They are combined in a new genus Zameioscirpus and a third new species is described. The autonomous generic position of Zameioscirpus within the Scirpeae is supported by a phylogenetic analysis based on rbcL and trnL-F sequencing data and by conspicuous morphological similarities.  相似文献

Rotifers described from the Andes by Murray (1913) and De Beauchamp (1939) as Notholca foliacea (Ehrenberg) are reviewed and re-assessed as Notholca walterkostei De Paggi, 1982. Senna birostris previously included seven varieties distributed mostly above 2000 m, in the Andes, between the equator and 33°S. According to Irwin & Barneby,Senna birostris var.hookeriana was the only variety in Argentina, distributed from the Jujuy province to the San Luis province. New observations led us to identify two distinct entities that have gone under this taxon. The new variety,Senna birostris var.jallaguensis, is described from Argentina and illustrated herein and is compared toSenna birostris var.hookeriana s.str.  相似文献

Laccopetalum giganteum (Ranunculaceae) is a rare endemic buttercup from the montane regions of the Peruvian Andes. The systematic position of this monotypic genus within Ranunculaceae was investigated using cpDNA matK sequence data. Our findings indicate that L. giganteum forms a highly supported clade together with Krapfia. Several morphological characters are shared by these genera; large subglobose and fleshy flowers, presence of androgynophore with a separated staminal and carpellate region and many tiny achenes. The Laccopetalum-Krapfia clade is sister to the core Ranunculus group with a high bootstrap support. The number of sepals and similar characteristics of achene morphology support an affinity of Laccopetalum with Ranunculus s.s tr.  相似文献

Chloroplast DNA polymorphisms were analysed to infer the post-glacial history of Nothofagus nervosa (Phil.) Dim. et Mil., a species endemic to South American Temperate Forests. Two hypotheses were postulated to explain the current distribution of the species in relation to the refugia proposed after palynological studies and the time elapsed since Last Glacial Maximum. If refugia were located only in the Coastal Mountains, as pollen records suggests, long-distance dispersal events should be invoked to explain the current occurrence of the species in southern latitudes. The alternative hypothesis is the existence of cryptic refugia in southern latitudes. A total of 26 populations covering the entire geographical range of the species in Chile and Argentina were analysed through PCR–RFLP. Five haplotypes were identified, and a very low intrapopulation variation was observed together with a high gene differentiation (G ST=0.93). The haplotypes showed a highly structured geographic distribution, separating populations located in the Pacific Coastal Mountains from those coming from the easterly located Andes Mountains. Moreover, among the populations of the Andes Mountains a north–south variation in the distribution of haplotypes was found. The results strongly suggest the persistence of the species in several ice-age refugia. The possible location of such refugia is discussed in combination with the available palynological data.  相似文献

The little-known Alucita danunciae Vargas, 2011 (Lepidoptera: Alucitidae) is recorded for the first time from Peru, expanding its altitudinal, geographic and host plant ranges. Its larvae were found on fruits of Tecoma fulva arequipensis (Bignoniaceae) at 2900 m elevation in Pocsi, Arequipa, on the western slopes of the Andes of southern Peru. Genetic divergence between the Chilean (type locality) and Peruvian DNA barcode haplotypes was 0.6–0.9% K2P.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Background: Woody bamboos of the genus Chusquea grow along a broad range of elevations in the Venezuelan Andes. Their growth-form and density vary along the cloud forest – páramo gradient. In this article, we related ecophysiological traits and population genetic diversity information to explain the distribution of growth-form patterns of Chusquea in the Merida Andes, Venezuela.

Aims: We quantified differences in the ecophysiological response and genetic diversity of scandent cloud forest and shrub-like páramo bamboos of the genus Chusquea, taking in account the differences in their flowering patterns, growth-form and habitat.

Methods: We related low temperature resistance, water relations and leaf gas exchange variables to the growth-form, habitat, flowering patterns and genetic diversity in species of Chusquea. The genetic diversity study was based on Inter Sequence Simple Repeats and Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA markers analysis of cloud forest and páramo populations.

Results: Scandent cloud forest and shrub-like páramo species of Chusquea had a very similar ecophysiological response for all the variables analysed during wet and dry seasons and were capable of enduring freezing temperatures through moderate supercooling. Species associated with the cloud forest – páramo gradient maintained low stomatal conductance and transpiration rates that favoured high leaf water potentials, without limiting photosynthetic rates. Shrub-like bamboos growing above the continuous forest line had a small decline in net photosynthesis rates, associated with an increase in water use efficiency. Both scandent and shrub-like bamboos had a remarkably high genetic diversity, comparable to non-clonal species.

Conclusions: Species of Chusquea in the Venezuelan Andes are a physiologically relatively homogeneous group across a broad elevation gradient. Population genetic diversity appears to be more related with their flowering pattern and habitat conditions than with their growth form.  相似文献

The monospecific genus Rhodoplagiochila, previously known only from the type collected in the Venezuelan Andes, has been collected at a second site close to the type locality. Up to now, generic status of Rhodoplagiochila has been accepted by most authors, but the taxon had been alternately assigned to Plagiochilaceae or Lophoziaceae. Phylogenetic analyses of nrITS sequences from Rhodoplagiochila and other representatives of the Plagiochilaceae clearly reveal the former to be in a clade with members of the Neotropical–Atlantic European Plagiochila sect. Arrectae. Within the Arrectae, Rhodoplagiochila is positioned in a robust clade made up of several accessions of Plagiochila bifaria. Morphologically, Rhodoplagiochila differs from other phenotypes of P. bifaria by the papillose leaf surface and a leaf margin which is ciliately toothed all-around. As an outcome of the molecular and morphological investigations, Rhodoplagiochila rosea is treated as a variety of P. bifaria, and the new combination P. bifaria var. rosea comb. et stat. nov. is proposed. In tropical America the family Plagiochilaceae seems to be represented only by Plagiochila.  相似文献

A number of species in the plant pathogen genus Armillaria are known from South America where they cause root rot disease on a wide variety of hosts. Knowledge pertaining to phylogenetic relationships of these species with those of other Armillaria species is almost non-existent. In addition, very few cultures representing these species are available, making DNA-based phylogenetic analyses impossible. The aim of this study was to characterise a collection of Armillaria isolates from the Patagonian Andes using DNA sequences and to determine their phylogenetic relationships with other Armillaria species. DNA sequences were obtained from the internal transcribed regions (ITS1, 5.8S and ITS4) and ribosomal large subunit (LSU) gene and used in phylogenetic analyses. Phylogenetic trees generated from the sequences separated the Armillaria isolates into four lineages. Lineages I and II represented A. novae-zelandiae and A. luteobubalina, respectively. Isolates belonging to A. novae-zelandiae from Malaysia, New Zealand, Australia and South America showed considerable intra-clade sub-structure. Lineages III and IV are probably distinct species and are most closely related to A. hinnulea and an unnamed species isolated from New Zealand and Kenya. This is the first comprehensive study of the phylogenetic relationships of Armillaria species from Patagonia and it provides a foundation for future research in this region.  相似文献

通过对采自贵州省梵净山和内蒙古赛罕乌拉自然保护区的苔藓植物标本进行鉴定,发现了丛藓科的2个新分布种——卷叶薄齿藓(Leptodontium pungens)和北美赤藓(Syntrichia amphidiacea)。卷叶薄齿藓为中国新记录种,首次在中国贵州省梵净山发现,其主要特征为茎无中轴分化,具透明层,常分布于火山和温带高海拔地区。北美赤藓为内蒙古新分布种,发现于内蒙古赛罕乌拉自然保护区,其主要特征为叶腹面近叶尖处生有大量芽胞,成熟芽胞棕色,多细胞,圆柱状。本研究对卷叶薄齿藓和北美赤藓的形态特征和地理分布进行了具体描述,并提供了图版和分种检索表。  相似文献
