The paper gives a brief overview of the main stages of development of eugenics and race hygiene in Germany between 1900 and 1940. Two main stages can be differentiated: one, the formation of the eugenics movement and its development parallel to quantitative population policy before and after World War I, and the second beginning toward the end of the Weimar Republic (1919-1933) when the financial crisis of the public health system favored eugenic schemes implemented by an authoritarian government, such as the Nazi regime.  相似文献

The delta 5,9 fatty acids (5Z,9Z)-5,9-hexadecadienoic acid, (5Z,9Z)-5,9-nonadecadienoic acid, and (5Z,9Z)-5,9-eicosadienoic acid were synthesized for the first time in four steps (9-12% overall yield) starting from commercially available 2-(2-bromoethyl)-1,3-dioxolane. The synthetic approach provided enough material to corroborate the structure and stereochemistry of (5Z,9Z)-5,9-nonadecadienoic acid which was recently identified in the flowers of Malvaviscus arboreus (Malvaceae). The novel phospholipids 1-hexadecanoyl-2-[(5Z,9Z)-5,9-eicosadienoyl]-sn-glycer o-3-phosphocholine and 1-octadecanoyl-2-[(5Z,9Z)-5,9-eicosadienoyl]-sn- glycero-3-phosphocholine were also synthesized from commercially available L-alpha-phosphatidylcholine (egg yolk) and characterized by positive ion electrospray mass spectrometry. These are the first examples of unsymmetrical phospholipids with saturated fatty acids at the sn-1 position and delta 5,9 fatty acids at the sn-2 position.  相似文献

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) isomers are present in human foods derived from milk or ruminant meat. To study their metabolism, (9Z,11E)-, (10E,12Z)- and (10Z,12Z)-[1-(14)C]-octadecadienoic acids with high radiochemical and isomeric purities (>98%) were prepared by stereoselective multi-step syntheses involving sequential substitution of 1,2-dichloro-ethene. In the case of the (9Z,11E) isomer, a first metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction between (E)-1,2-dichloro-ethene and 2-non-8-ynyloxy-tetrahydro-pyran, obtained from 7-bromo-heptan-1-ol, gave a conjugated chloroenyne. A second coupling reaction with hexylmagnesium bromide provided a heptadecenynyl derivative. Stereoselective reduction of the triple bond and bromination afforded (7E,9Z)-17-bromo-heptadeca-7,9-diene. Formation of the Grignard reagent and carbonation with 14CO(2) gave (9Z,11E)-[1-(14)C]-octadeca-9,11-dienoic acid (overall yield from 7-bromo-heptan-1-ol, 14.4%). (10E,12Z)- and (10Z,12Z)-[1-(14)C]-octadeca-10,12-dienoic acids were synthesized by the same methodology using 1-heptyne, 8-bromo-octan-1-ol and, respectively, (E)-1,2-dichloro-ethene and its (Z) isomer (overall yield from 8-bromo-octan-1-ol, 13.1% (10E,12Z); 17.2% (10Z,12Z)). Impurities (<2% if present) were identified as being (E,E) CLA isomers and were removed by RP-HPLC. Metabolism studies in animal are in progress.  相似文献

A screening program was conducted to find microorganisms that modify the synthetic cannabinoid nabilone. After purification, the products from three cultures were analyzed by spectral methods to determine their chemical structures. An optically active 9S-hydroxy-6aR,10aR-trans cannabinoid was isolated from a culture of an unidentified soil bacterium designated A24007. From Bacillus cereus cultures were isolated a 9S,6'-dihydroxy-6aR,10aR-trans cannabinoid, a 9S-hydroxy-6'-keto-6aR,10aR-trans cannabinoid, a 9-keto-6'-hydroxy-6aS,10aS-trans cannabinoid, and a 6',9-diketo-6aS,10aS-trans cannabinoid. All of these products were optically active, as was a 9S-hydroxy-6aS,10AS-trans cannabinoid also isolated from B. cereus cultures. A series of acidic products were isolated from cultures of Nocardia salmonicolor. All of these products contained a carboxylic acid group at the terminal end of three-position alkyl side chains having varying numbers of carbon atoms. Two of the acidic products contained a 9-keto group, whereas all other carboxylic acid products were 9-hydroxy cannabinoids. The array of products obtained from incubation of nabilone indicates the usefulness of microbial transformations in the preparation of new cannabinoids.  相似文献

The seeming increase in the incidence of peptic ulcer after 1900 quickly occupied the attention of physicians. Their understanding and treatment of peptic ulcer was shaped not only by new diagnostic tools, but by differences between contesting medical specialties, broad concepts or paradigms current in the larger medical and scientific community, and prevailing social and ideological beliefs. Surgeons and internists, for example, were often at odds over appropriate therapies; each maintained that personal experiences demonstrated the efficacy of their therapies. Nor were etiological theories derived from empirical data. The claim that peptic ulcer resulted from focal infections was simply a reflection of the popularity of germ theory. Other explanations included the role of stress, race, constitutional makeup, psychosomatic factors, and the pressures of modern industrial society. Virtually all were derivative and reflected social and intellectual currents that were common in the larger society of which medicine was but a part. Thus, the history of peptic ulcer during the first half of the 20th century provides an instructive and in many ways a typical case study in the complexities posed by the emergence of modern medicine.  相似文献

Total synthesis of (5Z,8Z,11Z,14Z)-18- and 19-azidoeicosa-5,8,11,14-tetraenoic acids and their [5,6,8,9,11,12,14,15-3H8]-analogues via the corresponding p-toluenesulphonates is reported. This synthetic approach allows the preparation of radioactively labelled arachidonic acid derivatives following a common synthetic route. Activity assays indicated that 15-lipoxygenases may tolerate the azido group in the substrate binding pocket and thus, radioactively labelled azido compounds may be used as photo-affinity probes to investigate mechanistic features of eicosanoid biosynthesis.  相似文献

Summary Parallel bench-scale activated sludge systems were operated using air or hydrogen peroxide as oxygen source. The use of H2O2 resulted in a temporary decrease of COD reduction, an increase of the catalase activity of the activated sludge, a depression of the nitrification, and a marked decrease of some filamentous organisms. Enumeration of some microbiologic groups indicated that the counts of enterobacteria, coliforms, staphylococci, and streptococci were lower in the H2O2 unit than in the parallel air unit. Also the use of H2O2 did not induce the selection of bacterial species that are more resistant to H2O2.
