The pollen analysis of a sediment core from a peat bog (Rifugio Mondovi) at the mountain belt (1760 m) in the Ellero Valley (Italian Maritime Alps) shows the postglacial vegetation history. The sequence starts at 12,000 BP during a peak of pine pollen; this first phase shows a low representation of birch and the presence of Tilia. Younger Dryas is characterised by increasing percentages of Artemisia, showing the presence of deciduous Quercus, fir and beech. Elm appears at the beginning of the Holocene during the second pine peak (9800 BP). A 3000-year hiatus is present. Sedimentation resumes at 6000 BP in a Rhododendron fir-wood. The present timberline at 1500 m, at the limit of the beech wood, is a result of the decline of the fir-wood at 2600 BP, which allowed an expansion of beech. During this period, there was a continual increase in Gramineae and deciduous oak and the first occurrences of evergreen oak are observed. The development of larch occurs at 1800 BP, together with walnut, chestnut, cereals and vine.  相似文献

Aeroallergens of the southeastern Missouri region were determined by skin test frequencies of 817 consecutive individuals and compared and contrasted with five years of air sampling using the Rotorod sampler. Household inhalants were found to induce the most frequently positive skin tests, especially house dust, feathers, house dust mite, wool, cat epithelium, tobacco, dog epithelium, and horse epithelium. Among the trees, pollen extracts of Acer saccharum (maple), Acer negundo (box-elder), Carya ovata/C. illinoensis (hickory/pecan), Juglans nigra (walnut), and Ulmus americana (elm) were the most commonly positive. A slightly higher level of skin reactivity was found to grass pollen extracts with Anlhoxanthum odoralum (sweet vernal), Phleum pratense (timothy), Cynodon dactylon (Bermuda), Agrostis alba (red top) and Festuca elatior (meadow fescue), all being quite similar in incidence, but Sorghum halepense (Johnson grass) was clearly less important. Ambrosia spp. (ragweed) and Xanthium commune (cocklebur) were the most frequent weed reactions with ragweed the most prominent allergen of outside environmental origin. Of the genera of fungi, skin tests to Epicoccum were most frequently positive. When reactivity level is considered, the other important fungi are Alternaria, Candida, Cladosporium, Curvularia, and Fusarium. Air sampling data generally correlates well with the positive skin tests frequencies i.e., the most numerous pollen, ragweed, has the highest skin test frequency and reactivity level. Similarly among the fungi the most numerous spores, Cladosporium, Alternaria, Fusarium, and Epicoccum have the highest frequencies and reactivity levels. Certain species appear to be able to sensitize patients in lower concentrations, such as box-elder and the grasses. Oak pollen and Cladosporium spores appear in large numbers, but seem less sensitizing.  相似文献

Abstract. Vegetation was sampled at 170 plots in five mires in the Italian Alps to characterize the distribution of plant species along the main environmental gradients. Water-table depth, water pH, electrical conductivity, Ca-, Mg-, K- and Na-concen-trations in soil pore water, shade intensity, and distance from the mire margin were determined at each plot. At mire margins the water table was deeper than in the mire expanse, and K-, Ca- and Mg-concentrations, and conductivity were higher. The first and by far most important axis of a DCCA-ordination was interpreted as a gradient of water-table depth, in relation to the distance from the mire margin, whereas the second axis was mainly associated with water pH.  相似文献

Summary East of Cave del Predil (formerly Raibl), a platform-basin transition of the Dolomia Principale (Hauptdolomit) is spectacularly exposed at a seismic scale. Therefore, the eastern margin of the vast domain of the Dolomia Principale, facing the Slovenian Basin, is documented. Despite of strong dolomitization of the massive margin, some sedimentary structures and fossils have been recognized. Corals seem to be very rare and sponges to be absent, whereas serpulids and marine phreatic cements seem to have been the main components of the framework. Interior platform bedded dolomites lap off the massive margin. Clinoforms interfinger with upper Tuvalian basinal deposits (Carnitza Formation). This setting documents the start-up of the Dolomia Principale during late Tuvalian time. Moreover, this margin of the Dolomia Principale is the more ancient so far pointed out. It testifies to the recovery of a rimmed platform after the late Julian-early Tuvalian crisis.  相似文献

The Late Paleozoic (early Kasimovian-late Artinskian) sedimentary sequence of the Carnic Alps (Austria/Italy) is composed of cyclic, shallow-marine, mixed siliciclastic-carbonate sedimentary rocks. It contains different types of skeletal mounds in different stratigraphic levels. The oldest mounds occur at the base of the Auernig Group, within a transgressive sequence of the basal Meledis Formation. These mounds are small and built by auloporid corals. Algal mounds are developed in the Auernig Formation of the Auernig Group, forming biostromes, and Lower Pseudoschwagerina Limestone of the Rattendorf Group forming biostromes and bioherms. The dominant mound-forming organism of these mounds is the dasycladacean alga Anthracoporella spectabilis. In mounds of the Auernig Formation subordinately the ancestral corallinacean alga Archaeolithophyllum missouriense is present, whereas in mounds of the Lower Pseudoschwagerina Limestone a few calcisponges and phylloid algae occur locally at the base and on top of some Anthracoporella mounds. Mounds of the Auernig Formation formed during relative sea level highstands whereas mounds of the Lower Pseudoschwagerina Limestone formed during transgression. The depositional environment was in the shallow marine, low-turbulence photic zone, just below the active wave base and lacking siliciclastic influx. The algal mounds of the Carnic Alps differ significantly from all other algal mounds in composition, structure, zonation and diagenesis; the formation of the mounds cannot be explained by the model proposed by Wilson (1975). The largest mounds occur in the Trogkofel Limestone, they are composed of Tubiphytes/Archaeolithoporella boundstone, which shows some similarities to the “Tubiphytes thickets” of stage 2 of the massive Capitan reef complex of the Guadalupe Mountains of New Mexico/West Texas.  相似文献

The halophilous vegetation in the Po Delta region (north Adriatic) has been studied with the Braun-Blanquet method. Vegetation types have been defined by numerical classification of vegetation data. Their ecology has been studied by indirect gradient analysis. The following three main groups of phytocoena have been recognized. (1) Perennial halophytic vegetation (class Puccinellio-Salicornietea) including 7 associations: Spartinetum maritimae, Puccinellietum palustris, Salicornietum radicantis, Salicornietum fruticosae, Agropyro-Inuletum crithmoidis, Halimionetum portulacoidis, are quoted according to an approximate gradient of decreasing soil moisture. The Juncetum maritimi is conditioned by soil erosion. (2) Therophytic vegetation settled on soils subject to natural or artificial disturbance (class Thero-Salicornietea), including 3 associations: Suaedo-Kochietum hirsutae, Salicornietum herbaceae s.1. and the Aster tripolium-Suaeda maritima community. (3) Halotolerant vegetation (class Artemisietea vulgaris), including only the Atripliceto-Elytrigietum pungentis settled on soils with a low salt content.Nomenclature of species follows Pignatti (1982).The research was supported by a grant of the Istituto per i Beni Artistici, Culturali e Naturali, Regione Emilia-Romagna (Italy) and by a grant of the Italian C.N.R. New Late Triassic–earliest Jurassic magneto-biostratigraphic data have been obtained from three overlapping sections in the Southern Alps, Italy (Costa Imagna, Brumano, Italcementi Quarry), composed of ~ 520 m of shallow-marine carbonates outcropping in stratigraphic continuity. Characteristic magnetic components of presumed depositional age record a sequence of 9 normal and reverse polarity magnetozones (as defined by at least three stratigraphically superposed samples) linked by conodont and palynofloral evidence from this study and the literature to Rhaetian to Triassic–Jurassic boundary age. This represents a significantly larger number of polarity zones than previously recognized in more condensed Rhaetian sections from the literature, and by inference represents more time. These data are placed in a broader Late Triassic temporal framework by means of correlations to published magneto-biostratigraphic data from the Tethyan marine Pizzo Mondello section and the Newark astronomical polarity time scale (APTS). This framework is consistent with a position of the Norian–Rhaetian boundary (as defined at Brumano and Pizzo Mondello by the first appearance of Misikella posthernsteini) within Newark magnetozones E17r–E19r in the ~ 207–210 Ma time interval, in basic agreement with the position originally estimated in the Newark using pollen biostratigraphy (E18 at 208–209 Ma). This framework is also consistent with the position of the Triassic–Jurassic boundary interval (placed at Italcementi Quarry at the acme of Kraeuselisporites reissingeri coincident with a negative carbon isotope excursion) correlative to just above Newark magnetozone E23r and just below the oldest CAMP lavas dated at ~ 202 Ma. Hence, we estimate the duration of the Rhaetian to be ~ 5.5–8.5 Myr (or even longer if the Triassic–Jurassic boundary is instead placed above the negative carbon isotope excursion as at Kuhjoch, which is the designated GSSP for the base of the Hettangian), and encompassing 9 magnetozones. This duration contrasts with a duration of ~ 2 Myr and only ~ 4 magnetozones in several alternative published magneto-biostratigraphic schemes.  相似文献

The vascular flora of pedologically conditioned, extensive dry grasslands occurring in a very rainy area of northeastern Italy, was submitted to phytogeographic analysis. The distributional ranges of 144 species were digitized into two presence-absence matrices of species and Operational Geographic Units (quadrants), one covering Europe, the other, limited to 56 species with extra-European distributions, extended to the Northern Hemisphere north of the Tropic of Cancer. These matrices were submitted to numerical classification, obtaining clusters of species with similar distributional patterns (chorotypes). For each cluster of species, the percent occurrencies in each quadrant were processed by a program of automatic mapping, producing a series of isoporic maps showing the joint distribution of the species of each cluster. The species can be subdivided into six main phytogeographical groups: (1) Narrow-ranging (34% of the total), including the endemic, subendemic, Illyrian-Balcanic and NW submediterranean elements, (2) Southern European-Submediterranean (18.8%), (3) Wide-ranging European (16.6%), (4) Eastern-Pontic (7.6%), (5) Southern Eurasiatic (10.5%), (6) Northern Eurasiatic (12.5%). The phytogeographic originality of the investigated grasslands is high, with more than one third of the species having narrow distributional ranges. Particularly relevant are the connections with the Balkanic-Illyrian and the eastern Alpine regions.Nomenclature: Pignatti (1982).  相似文献

Chironomid headcapsules were used to reconstruct late glacial and early-Holocene summer temperatures at Lago Piccolo di Avigliana (LPA). Two training sets (northern Sweden, North America) were used to infer temperatures. The reconstructed patterns of temperature change agreed well with the GRIP and NGRIP δ18O records. Inferred temperatures were high during the Bølling (ca 19 °C), slowly decreased to ca 17.5 °C during the Allerød, reached lowest temperatures (ca 16 °C) during the Younger Dryas, and increased to ca. 18.5 °C during the Preboreal. The amplitudes of change at climate transitions (i.e. Oldest Dryas/Bølling: 3 °C, Allerød/Younger Dryas: 1.5 °C, and Younger Dryas/Preboreal: 2.5 °C) were smaller than in the northern Alps but similar to those recorded at another site in northeastern Italy. Our results suggest that (1) Allerød temperatures were higher in the southern Alps and (2) higher during the Preboreal (1 °C) than during the Allerød. These differences might provide an explanation for the different responses of terrestrial-vegetation to late glacial and early-Holocene climatic changes in the two regions. Other sites on both sides of the Alps should be studied to confirm these two hypotheses.  相似文献

Abstract: The Pliensbachian gastropods described by De Toni in 1912, coming from an isolated boulder at the foot of Mt Vedana (eastern margin of Trento Platform, Venetian Southern Alps, Italy) are revised. The fauna consists of 13 species representing nine families and eight superfamilies. Despite the low number of species, the assemblage represents the most diverse Early Jurassic gastropod fauna known for the Venetian Southern Alps. The boulder yielding the material was thought to derive from the upper part of the Early Jurassic Calcari Grigi Group, a carbonate platform unit extensively cropping out in the Mt Vedana area. The sedimentological analysis indicates a prevalently bioclastic wackstone‐floatstone, reflecting a lime‐muddy deposit undergone to an early consolidation. This and the high content of ammonoids, which is unusual for the Calcari Grigi Group, are typical aspects of a condensed pelagic sediment, presumably a fissure filling at the top of the carbonate platform succession. Palaeobiogeographical comparisons show that the fauna is composed of species occurring exclusively in pelagic limestones of the western Tethys. By contrast, it shows no relationships with the coeval faunas of the adjacent Trento platform and of the other western Tethyan carbonate platforms. These lines of evidence and the facies analysis would testify to the Pliensbachian drowning of the eastern margin of the Trento platform. In the wider context of the palaeobiogeographical history of Early Jurassic western Tethyan gastropods, the species from Vedana belong to a faunal stock which is typical for pelagic, mainly postdrowning sediments. Thus, appearance and diffusion in space and time of this stock were probably regulated by the direction, rate and pattern of the Neotethyan rifting. A new subgenus, Proarcirsa (Schafbergia) subgen. nov., and three new species, namely Ataphrus (Ataphrus) cordevolensis sp. nov., Guidonia pseudorotula sp. nov. and Proarcirsa (Schafbergia) zirettoensis sp. nov. are erected.  相似文献

Abstract

The vegetation communities of the karst-tectonic basins of the Majella massif alpine belt were studied using the phytosociological methods, and analysed from coenological, synchorological and syntaxonomical viewpoints. During the field-work, 115 relevés were performed using the phytosociological approach of Braun-Blanquet, and these relevés were further subjected to multivariate analyses. Eight clusters of relevés resulted from the numerical classification. The plant communities identified in the study area were ascribed to the following five associations, two sub-associations and one community type: Leontopodio – Seslerietum juncifoliae (ass. nova); Helianthemo – Festucetum italicae (ass. nova); Gnaphalio – Plantaginetum atratae; Taraxaco – Trifolietum thalii gnaphalietosum magellensis (subass. nova); Luzulo italicae – Nardetum, Carici – Salicetum retusae; Saxifrago – Papaveretum julici, Saxifrago – Papaveretum androsacetosum (subass. nova), Plantago atrata and Leontodon montanus community. The distribution of these communities within the karst basins was found to be related to variations in topographic and geomorphological parameters, such as altitude, slope, soil availability and stoniness. All the new associations proposed in this paper belong to the suballiance Leontopodio – Elynenion and to the alliance Seslerion apenninae, both of which are endemic to the central Apennines. In order to compare the plant community types identified within the Majella massif to similar associations found in the rest of the Apennine chain, synoptic tables were constructed. Finally, a comparative phytogeographical analysis of the alpine belt vegetation of the Apennines, Dinarides, southern Balkans and eastern Alps is presented.  相似文献

Composite channels in the alpine region are heterogeneous environments resulting from a variety of erosive and depositional processes. They can have different ecological functions: habitats for plant species, conduits, filters, sources and sinks. They can contain sparse, intermittent vegetation cover, and are frequently free of vegetation except along the banks and levees. We hypothesised that this disturbed and fragmented landscape unit encourages biodiversity with characteristic plant species adapted to survive in the channel niches.  相似文献

Abstract

A synthesis of the epiphytic lichen vegetation on larch in the Italian Alps is presented. Vegetation types are described on the basis of a numerical classification of 291 relevés. They can be compared to a few well-known phytosociological unions found in other parts of the Alps. Some communities are restricted to subalpine areas with continental climate. Despite the homogeneity of the substrate, the flora is rich, with 98 species, several of which are rare, and hence of interest from a conservational point of view.  相似文献

A total of 128 invasive plant species have been recorded in treeless vegetation in the Australian Alps. Most of these are forbs and most are uncommon. Cover of invasive species is generally minimal unless there has been gross disturbance to natural vegetation and soils. Although there is a significantly positive correlation between invasive and native species diversity, suggesting that conditions that allow numerous native species to co-exist also permit more plant invasions, altitude is the most important determinant of invasive species diversity. Only 22 of the 128 species have been recorded above 1800 m. Some plant communities (e.g. those with high pH or relatively nutrient-rich soils), however, seem to be vulnerable to invasions regardless of altitude. Most invasive species appear to have been introduced unintentionally (e.g. as seed attached to vehicles, animals and humans) but a few were introduced to assist with revegetation of disturbed soils and for amenity plantings in ski resorts, and have subsequently established in native vegetation. Treeless communities in the Australian Alps are likely to face increasing pressure from invasive species as a result of global warming and continued introduction of non-native plants to ski resort gardens. Whilst it may be difficult to prevent invasive species of low elevations migrating to higher elevations as temperatures rise, the risk of invasion from garden plants could be minimised through regulation. Non-native plants in ski resort gardens pose a far greater risk than most invasive species currently present in the Alps because they have been chosen for their capacity to survive at high altitudes.  相似文献

The pollen diagram from Stracciacappa (Sabatini volcanic complex, Rome) provides a record of vegetational and climatic change spanning the last 60000 years, which is the time since when volcanic activity in the crater came to an end. The chronological framework of the sediment core is set by five AMS and three conventional radiocarbon dates; the mean sedimentation rate obtained by radiocarbon measurements was used to extrapolate the age of the record beyond the reach of 14C dating. The sequence from Stracciacappa provides results of fundamental importance for the understanding of the vegetational changes which occurred during the last pleniglacial period in central Italy, and it can be considered as a reference pollen record for the regional biostratigraphic characterization of this period. The site shows a high climatic sensitivity, particularly highlighted by the development of some pleniglacial oscillations with woodland, which interrupted the succession of steppe and grassland vegetational formations typical of the glacial periods. Unfortunately, due to sedimentation problems and alteration of the top level sediments, the Holocene is only recorded in part. Only for one millennium, from ca. 8300 to 7200 uncalb.p., was a real forest expansion characterized by over 90% arboreal pollen found.  相似文献

Knowledge about vegetation and fire history of the mountains of Northern Sicily is scanty. We analysed five sites to fill this gap and used terrestrial plant macrofossils to establish robust radiocarbon chronologies. Palynological records from Gorgo Tondo, Gorgo Lungo, Marcato Cixé, Urgo Pietra Giordano and Gorgo Pollicino show that under natural or near natural conditions, deciduous forests (Quercus pubescens, Q. cerris, Fraxinus ornus, Ulmus), that included a substantial portion of evergreen broadleaved species (Q. suber, Q. ilex, Hedera helix), prevailed in the upper meso-mediterranean belt. Mesophilous deciduous and evergreen broadleaved trees (Fagus sylvatica, Ilex aquifolium) dominated in the natural or quasi-natural forests of the oro-mediterranean belt. Forests were repeatedly opened for agricultural purposes. Fire activity was closely associated with farming, providing evidence that burning was a primary land use tool since Neolithic times. Land use and fire activity intensified during the Early Neolithic at 5000 bc, at the onset of the Bronze Age at 2500 bc and at the onset of the Iron Age at 800 bc. Our data and previous studies suggest that the large majority of open land communities in Sicily, from the coastal lowlands to the mountain areas below the thorny-cushion Astragalus belt (ca. 1,800 m a.s.l.), would rapidly develop into forests if land use ceased. Mesophilous Fagus-Ilex forests developed under warm mid Holocene conditions and were resilient to the combined impacts of humans and climate. The past ecology suggests a resilience of these summer-drought adapted communities to climate warming of about 2 °C. Hence, they may be particularly suited to provide heat and drought-adapted Fagus sylvatica ecotypes for maintaining drought-sensitive Central European beech forests under global warming conditions.  相似文献

A pelagic sedimentary succession, virtually complete from the Upper Hauterivian to the Upper Aptian and unconformably overlain by the Middle-Upper Albian p.p., was continuously cored in the Belluno Basin (southern Alps, NE Italy) as part of the APTICORE Program. APTICORE at Cismon Valley penetrated 131.8m of limestones, marls and black shales, with 100% recovery of good quality cored material.One hundred and forty-six samples recovered from the marl and shale beds of the Cismon core were processed and analyzed for palynomorphs. Most of them yielded relatively rich and fairly well preserved assemblages of marine and terrestrially-derived palynomorphs.The results of a qualitative study of dinoflagellate cysts and acritarchs are presented and discussed. The distributions of 150 taxa are tabulated against the chronostratigraphy independently established on the basis of original litho-, bio-, chemo-, magnetostratigraphic investigations and of correlations with extensively studied sections outcropping in the vicinity of the Cismon drill site.The acritarch Pinocchiodinium erbae gen. et sp. nov. is described. Due to its distinctive morphology and extremely constant occurrence also in the black shales of the Selli Level, it is proposed as a marker species for the Aptian sediments of the Tethys.The dinoflagellate cysts Kallosphaeridium dolomiticum sp. nov. and Nexosispinum hesperus brevispinosum subsp. nov. are described from the Upper Hauterivian. Additional taxonomic remarks are made about other dinoflagellate cyst species, including the emendations of Tanyosphaeridium magneticum Davies 1983 and Bourkidinium granulatum Morgan 1975.The biostratigraphic value of selected taxa is discussed and compared with data known both from the Tethyan and Boreal realms. In particular, the extinction of Bourkidinium granulatum emend. is proposed as the best dinoflagellate cyst event for the delimitation of the Hauterivian-Barremian boundary in the Northern Hemisphere. The first appearance datums of Prolixosphaeridium parvispinum and Odontochitina operculata, and the slightly younger last appearance datum of Nexosispinum vetusculum are confirmed as useful biohorizons for recognition of the lower part of the Upper Barremian and hence for the approximation of the Lower-Upper Barremian boundary. The last occurrences of Rhynchodiniopsis aptiana and Phoberocysta neocomica are calibrated in the basal Aptian.  相似文献

A detailed pollen analysis has been conducted in a new sedimentary sequence taken at Les Etelles (700 m), in the hill vegetation belt in the Cha?ne des Hurtières (Northern French Alps). The Lateglacial history of the vegetation has been supported by 10 AMS datings. Variations in relative abundance of main pollen taxa were compared with variations in [symbol: see text] 18O in Swiss lacustrine sediments and with the GRIP ice-core record. Those highlight how the vegetation reacted to minor climatic oscillations. The Lateglacial spread of Quercus, Alnus and Corylus in the region is confirmed, thus allowing a new interpretation of some Lateglacial sedimentary sequences at an adjacent region (Bas-Dauphiné).  相似文献
