Three new species of Isospora (Apicomplexa: Eimeriidae) are described from the faeces of passeriform birds of Hawaii. Isospora lyonensis n. sp. is described from the faeces of Lonchura punctulata (Passeriformes: Estrildidae) and has spherical-subspherical oocysts, 24×23 (21–27×21–26.5), with a thick, bi-layered wall c.1.5 thick. A micropyle and oocyst residuum are absent, but three or more polar granules are present. Oocysts of I. mejiro n. sp. were found in the faeces of Zosterops japonicus (Passeriformes: Zosteropidae) and are spherical to subspherical, 28.5×27 (25–32×25–29.5), with a thick, bi-layered wall c.1.5 thick. A micropyle and oocyst residuum are absent, but a large polar granule is present. I. manoaensis n. sp. was also found in Z. japonicus and has spherical-subspherical oocysts, 28×26.5 (25.5–30.5×22.5–29), and a thick, bi-layered wall c.1.5 thick. A micropyle and oocyst residuum are absent, but a polar granule consisting of numerous splinter-like fragments is present. In addition to the above new species, oocysts of I. brayi Levine, Van Riper & Van Riper, 1980 were also found in Z. japonicus. 相似文献

Two new species of Isospora are described from skinks, I. cryptoblephari n. sp. in Cryptoblepharus virgatus and I. delmae n. sp. in Delma nasuta, both collected in Australia. I. cryptoblephari oöcysts are ellipsoidal to subspherical, 17.5–22.5 × 25.0–30.0 m with two ovoid sporocysts, 9.0–10.0 × 12.5–14.0 m. I. delmae oöcysts are spherical to subspherical, 16.5–19.0 × 16.5–20.0 m with two ovoid sporocysts, 5.0–6.5 × 9.0–12.5 m. These species of Isospora had two sporocysts, each containing four sporozoites and a characteristic Stieda body. A study of endogenous stages in the host's intestine revealed that I. cryptoblephari develops in the nucleus and I. delmae in the cytoplasm of the host's gut epithelial cell. In the former, both merogony and gamogony occurred in the nucleus. 相似文献

Two new species of coccidia (Apicomplexa: Eimeriidae) are described from the Madagascar giant day gecko, Phelsuma madagascariensis grandis, and the Golddust day gecko, P. laticauda. Both species of coccidia were found to infect the anterior one-half of the small intestine. Oocysts of Eimeria brygooi n. sp. are spherical or subspherical, 23.0 X 21.3 (18.8-25.2 X 16.4-23.2)micron; shape index (L/W) 1.1 (1.0-1.2). A micropyle, oocyst residuum, and polar granule are absent. Sporocysts are ovoid, 9.2 X 7.9 (8.0-10.0 X 7.2-8.8) micron; shape index 1.2 (1.0-1.3), with a Goussia-type suture; Stieda and substieda bodies are absent. A sporocyst residuum is present, 4.2 X 3.0 (3.2-6.4 X 2.4-4.0) micron. Sporozoites are elongate, with anterior and posterior refractile bodies. This coccidian was found to infect five of six (83%) P. m. grandis and one of five (20%) P. laticauda examined. Oocysts of Isospora gekkonis n. sp. are spherical or subspherical, 24.2 X 22.0 (21.6-26.4 X 20.0-23.6) micron; shape index 1.1 (1.0-1.2). A micropyle and oocyst residuum are absent; polar granule present. Sporocysts are ovoid, 12.2 X 9.4 (11.2-12.8 X 8.4-10.0) micron, with Stieda and substieda bodies; shape index 1.3 (1.2-1.4). A sporocyst residuum is present, either compact, 5.1 X 4.2 (4.0-7.2 X 3.2-5.6) micron or diffuse. Sporozoites are elongate, with anterior and posterior refractile bodies. Isospora gekkonis was found in two of six (33%) P. m. grandis and one of five (20%) P. laticauda. In addition, oocysts of Cryptosporidium sp. were found in the cloacas of two of six (33%) necropsied P. m. grandis. 相似文献

Three new species of Isospora Schneider, 1881 are described from agamid lizards, Isospora cannoni n. sp. in Diporiphora australis from northern Queensland, Australia, I. choochotei n. sp. in Calotes mystaceus from northern Thailand, and I. deserti n. sp. in Agama pallida from Israel. I. cannoni oöcysts are subspherical, 20–25 × 22.5–27.5 m with two ovoid sporocysts, 14–15.5 × 10–11.5 m. I. choochotei oöcysts are spherical to subspherical, 24–32 × 28–32.5 m with two ovoid sporocysts, 11 × 15.5–18 m. I. deserti oöcysts are spherical, 25–28 m in diameter with two ovoid sporocysts, 10–11 × 14–17.5 m. All species had sporocysts with Stieda bodies and underwent endogenous development in the nucleus of the host gut epithelial cells. At completion of merogony and gamogony, the host nucleus was reduced to a thin envelope. The significance of endogenous stage characteristics in Isospora taxonomy is discussed. 相似文献

The following species are described from Indonesian birds: Isospora paddae n. sp. with oocysts 41.5-45.5 x 40.3-41.5 (44 +/- 1.15 x 41.2 +/- 0.38) and sporocysts 22.8-24.5 x 14.7-17 (24 +/- 0.55 x 16.2 +/- 0.81) from the Java sparrow, Padda oryzivora, and Isospora indonesianensis n. sp. with oocysts 39.3-43.6 x 37-40.8 (41.8 +/- 1.3 x 39.6 +/- 1.25) and sporocysts 25.6-28.4 x 15.2-18.5 (27.1 +/- 1.05 x 16.8 +/- 1.22) from the chestnut Munia, Lonchura malacca (L). Four new Isospora species (Apicomplexa: Eimeriidae) are described from reptiles collected in Seychelles. Oöcysts of I. gardneri n. sp. from Phelsuma astriata astriata, P. sundbergi sundbergi and P. sundbergi longinsulae are ellipsoid, 28.9 (22–31) × 23.5 (18–24) m with a rough 1.5–2 m thick wall. A micropyle, oöcyst residuum and polar granule are absent. Sporocysts are ellipsoid, 14.9 (12.5–17) × 8.8 (8–9.5) m, with a dome-like Stieda body, globular substieda body and a sporocyst residuum consisting of small granules; and the sporozoites have transversal striations. Oöcysts of I. seychellensis n. sp. from 3/7 Mabuya seychellensis are ellipsoid, 19.8 (17.5–21.5) × 15.3 (14.5–16) m. A micropyle, oöcyst residuum and polar granule are absent. Sporocysts are ovoid to broadly ovoid, 11.2 (10–12) × 7.4 (7–8) m, with Stieda and substieda bodies. A sporocyst residuum is present, consisting of small granules; and the sporozoites have distinct transverse striations. Oöcysts of I. tigris n. sp. from 1/1 Calumma tigris are ellipsoid, 22.5 (19–24) × 18 (16–20) m. A micropyle, oöcyst residuum and polar granule are absent. Sporocysts are ovoid or ellipsoid, 13.6 (12–15) × 7 (6–8) m, with large Stieda body and substieda bodies. A sporocyst residuum is present, consisting of numerous small granules; and the sporozoites are vermiform with distinct transverse striations. Oöcysts of I. ladiguensis n. sp. from Phelsuma sundbergi ladiguensis and P. sundbergi longinsulae are spherical to subspherical, 13.2 (12–13.5) × 12 (9–13) m, without micropyle and oöcyst residuum but with one globular polar granule. Two new species of Isospora are described from Thai geckoes. I. platyurusi n. sp. in Cosymbotus platyurus from Chiang Mai and Khon Kaen and I. uptoni n. sp. in Hemidactylus frenatus from Chiang Mai. Oöcysts of I. platyurusi are spherical to subspherical, 19–22.5 × 16.5–21.5 μm and have two ovoid sporocysts of 11.5–14 × 7.5–9 μm. Oöcysts of I. uptoni are spherical to subspherical, 24–31.5 × 20–27.5 μm and have two ovoid sporocysts of 12.5–15 × 9–11.5 μm. Both species have sporocysts with Stieda bodies and undergo endogenous development in the nucleus of the host gut epithelial cells. Four new species of Isospora are described from Australian geckoes. Isospora gehyrae n. sp. from Gehyra cf. variegata in South Australia have 18.5-22.5×17.5–20.0 m oöcysts with 10.0-12.5×7.5-9.0 m sporocysts; endogenous stages develop in the host cell cytoplasm. Of the two species found in Heteronotia binoei from northern Queensland, Isospora cytoheteronotis n. sp., with oöcysts of 20.0-26.0×17.5-25.0 m and sporocysts of 10.0-13.5×7.5-11.5 m, undergoes endogenous development in its host cell cytoplasm, whereas I. nucleoheteronotis n. sp., with oöcysts of 17.5-22.5×17.5-21.5 m and sporocysts of 9.0-12.5×6.5-10.0 m, develops in the host cell nucleus. I. oedurae n. sp. from Oedura rhombifer in northern Queensland has oöcysts of 22.5-25.0×22.5-24.0 m and sporocysts of 12.5-14.0×7.5-11.5 m, and undergoes endogenous development in its host cell nuclei. 相似文献

Five new species of Eimeria are described from lizards. Eimeria baltrocki n. sp. was found in the berber skink, Eumeces schneideri, from Egypt. The oöcysts are cylindroidal, averaging 38 × 18.3 m, with a single thick oöcyst wall. Most oöcysts possess a single polar granule; a micropyle and oöcyst residuum are absent. The sporocysts are ellipsoidal and average 11.5 × 8.1 m, each with a large, globular sporocyst residuum; the Stieda body is absent. Eimeria anolidis n. sp. is described form the common anole, Anolis carolinensis, from Florida, USA. The oöcysts are cylindroidal and average 31 × 15.8 m with a thick, single-layered oöcyst wall. Two polar granules are usually present; a micropyle and oöcyst residuum absent. The sporocysts are ellipsoidal and average 9.4 × 7.5 m with a globular sporocyst residuum; the Stieda body is absent. Eimeria guyanensis n. sp is recorded in the ameiva, Ameiva ameiva, from Guyana, South America. The oöcysts are spherical to subspherical, average 19.0 × 17.8 m and possess a thick, single-layered oöcyst wall. Numerous polar granules are present (n > 5); a micropyle and oöcyst residuum are absent. The sporocysts are spherical to subspherical, average 7.5 × 7.8 m and possess a compact globular sporocyst residuum; the Stieda body is absent. Eimeria phelsumae n. sp. was recovered from the giant day gecko, Phelsuma madagascariensis grandis, from Madagascar, which harboured a simultaneous infection of E. brygooi. The oöcysts measured 32 × 15 m and are cylindroidal without polar granules, a micropyle or oöcyst residuum, or a Steida body. The sporocysts are ellipsoidal and average 9.8 × 7 m, with a loosely clumped, granular sporocyst residuum; the Steida body is absent. Eimeria leiocephali n. sp. was discovered in the faeces of the ornate ground iguana, Leiocephalus barahonensis, from Haiti. The oöcysts are spherical to subspherical, 21 × 19 m, and contain a number of polar granules (n > 5); a micropyle and oöcyst residuum are absent. The sporocysts are spherical, 8 m in diameter and lack a sporocyst residuum. Eimeria turcicus and E. lineri were found in faeces of Hemidactylus turcicus turcicus from the host's country of origin, Turkey. 相似文献

Eimeria egregia n. sp. parasitises the gall-bladder of Eumeces egregius onocrepis, the brown red-tailed skink, in the Ocala National Forest, Marion County, Florida. Oöcysts are oval, 27.6 × 17.4 µm (25–32 × 16–20), without micropyle, polar body or oöcyst residuum. The oöcyst length/width ratio is 1.59 (1.42–1.76). Sporocysts are ovoid, 10.3 × 8.3 µm (8.5–12 × 7–9 µm), with a length/width ratio of 1.24 (1.06–1.50,), without a Stieda body, but with a prominent sporocyst residuum. Sporozoites are 10–12 × 2.5–3 µm. The ground skink Scincella lateralis is infected by Eimeria scincellae n. sp. The oöcysts are cylindrical, 29.8 × 15.9 µm (28–33 × 14–17), with no micropyle, polar body or oöcyst residuum. The oöcyst length/width ratio is 1.89 (1.68–2.14). Sporocysts are oval, 10.9 × 8.0 µm (9.5–12 × 7–9), with a length/width ratio of 1.36 (1.18–1.64,), no Stieda body and a prominent sporocyst residuum. Sporozoites are 9–11 × 2–2.5 µm. 相似文献

Two new species of Isospora Schneider, 1881 from flap-necked chameleons Chamaeleo dilepis Leach are described from the faeces of specimens collected in the Republic of Namibia. O?cysts of Isospora freedi n. sp. from one of four (25%) C. dilepis collected in the East Caprivi District are spherical to subspherical, with a smooth, colourless, bilayered wall, measure 23.7?×?21.2?μm and have a length/width (L/W) ratio of 1.1. The micropyle and the o?cyst residuum are absent but a polar granule is sometimes present. Sporocysts are ovoidal to ellipsoidal and 13.9?×?10.3?μm in size with prominent Stieda and sub-Stieda bodies; and the sporocyst residuum is composed of a compact mass of large globules. The sporozoites contain anterior and posterior refractile bodies with a nucleus between them. O?cysts of Isopora mandelai n. sp. from three of seven (43%) C. dilepis collected in the Outjo District are ellipsoidal to cylindroidal, with a smooth, colourless, bilayered wall, measure 36.9?×?31.0?μm and have an L/W ratio of 1.2. The micropyle, o?cyst residuum and polar granule are absent. Sporocysts are ovoidal to ellipsoidal, 15.3?×?11.1?μm in size and contain Stieda and sub-Stieda bodies; and the non-membranous sporocyst residuum is composed of granules of various sizes. The sporozoites contain anterior and posterior refractile bodies with a nucleus between them. These two new taxa represent the third and fourth coccidian species reported from C. dilepis. 相似文献

The following two species are described from Carduelis sinica (Greenfinch) from Italy. The oocysts of Isospora mcquistioni n. sp. were 26.0 x 22.6 (24.0-28.5 x 20.0-24.2) microns and ovoid with a smooth bilayered wall. Neither micropyle nor oocyst residuum were observed. One polar granule was found. Sporocysts were oval, 18.1 x 11.4 (16.0-19.8 x 11.0-12.0) microns, and with a symmetrical Stieda complex. The residuum was compact and spherical. Isospora bioccai n. sp. oocysts were spherical to subspherical and 24.0 x 23.6 (22.0-26.0 x 21.0-25.8) microns. The oocyst wall was smooth and bilayered. A micropyle and oocyst residuum were absent; 4 to 10 elongate polar granules were present. Sporocysts were 19.5 x 11.6 (18.0-20.0 x 10.0-12.4) microns, ellipsoidal, and with a symmetrical Stieda complex. The sporocyst residuum was diffuse and composed of a few granules. 相似文献

Three new coccidian (Apicomplexa: Eimeriidae) species are reported from the lesser seed-finch, Oryzoborus angolensis from Brazil. Sporulated oocysts of Isospora curio n. sp. are spherical to subspherical; 24.6 x 23.6 (22-26 x 22-25) microm, shape-index (SI, length/width) of 1.04 (1.00-1.15). Oocyst wall is bilayerd, approximately 1.5 microm thick, smooth and colourless. Micropyle and oocyst residuum are absent. The sporocysts are ovoid, 13.2 x 10.9 (15-17 x 10-13) microm, SI = 1.56 (1.42-1.71), with a small Stieda body and residuum composed of numerous granules scattered among the sporozoites. Sporozoites are elongated and posses a smooth surface and two distinct refractile bodies. Oocysts of Isospora braziliensis n. sp. are spherical to subspherical, 17.8 x 16.9 (16-19 x 16-18) microm, with a shape-index of 1.06 (1.00-1.12) and a smooth, single-layered wall approximately 1 microm thick. A micropyle, oocyst residuum and polar granules are absent. Sporocysts are ellipsoid and slightly asymmetric, 13.2 x 10.8 (12-14 x 9-12) microm, SI = 1.48 (1.34-1.61). Each sporocyst contains a barely visible Stieda body and a residuum composed numerous of granules. Sporozoites are elongated and each of them contains two distinct refractile bodies. Oocysts of Isospora paranaensis n. sp. are subspherical to broadly ellipsoid 24.3 x 19.8 (22-26 x 18-22) microm, SI = 1.22 (1.15-1.38) with smooth single-layered wall approximately 1.5 microm thick. A micropyle and oocyst residuum are absent, but one distinct ellipsoid polar granule (2.5-3.5 x 1.5-2.5 microm) is present. Sporocyst are ovoid, 15.7 x 10.1 (14-18 x 8-12) microm, SI = 1.46 (1.31-1.72), with distinct Stieda and sub-Stieda bodies. Coccidian protozoan species recorded from flycatchers are few, but they have been described with a certain frequency in recent years. In this context, the present study describes a new Isospora sp. from sepia-capped flycatchers Leptopogon amaurocephalus Tschudi, 1846 captured in the Itatiaia National Park and in a reforestation area which is about 60 km away from the park boundaries, in addition to providing a molecular identification via sequencing of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 gene. Isospora leptopogoni n. sp. has oöcysts that are subspheroidal to ovoidal, measuring on average 22.0 × 19.7 μm, with a smooth, bi-layered wall, c.1.7 μm thick. The micropyle is delicate or inconspicuous. Oöcyst residuum is absent, but one to three polar granules are present. Sporocysts are lemon-shaped, measuring on average 14.7 × 9.3 μm, with a knob-like Stieda body and a rectangular to rounded sub-Stieda body. Sporocyst residuum is present, consisting of compactly bounded granules. Sporozoites are vermiform, with refractile bodies and nucleus. Isospora leptopogoni is different from other Isospora spp. mainly due to its lemon-shaped sporocysts, the presence of micropyle and details of Stieda and sub-Stieda bodies. Phylogenetic analysis placed I. leptopogoni close to other Isospora spp. recorded from phylogenetically related hosts and from the same biogeographic region. Finally, the recurrent finding of this coccidian species in the same L. amaurocephalus specimen in a specific locality in the Itatiaia National Park suggests that the dispersion of I. leptopogoni needs continuous transmissions between susceptible passerines as the area of movement of each L. amaurocephalus specimen appears to be quite small. 相似文献

A new species of isosporan parasite is described from the faecal contents of the buff-throated foliage-gleaner Automolus ochrolaemus and the olive-backed foliage-gleaner A. infuscatus collected in the rainforests of eastern Ecuador. Sporulated oöcysts are subspherical to ovoidal, 23.4×21.3 (18–28×17–24) m, colourless, with a smooth, double-layered wall with the inner layer darker and thinner; the shape-index (length/width) is 1.1 (1–1.22). Oöcysts contain one polar granule, but lack a micropyle and an oöcyst residuum. Sporocysts are ovoidal, 15.4×9.9 (14–17×–11) m, with a smooth single-layered wall and a small nipple-like Stieda body attached to a small, inconspicuous, acentric substieda body. Sporozoites are vermiform with one prominent posterior, refractile body (c. 4×5 m), and a centrally located nucleus of equal size.
