 有花植物具有纷繁复杂的繁育系统,以避免或促进自交或异交。花柱卷曲性异交机制(Flexistyly)是最近在热带山姜属(Alpinia)植物中发现的一种促进异交的行为机制。具有这一机制的种类其自然种群中的个体根据开花行为的不同分为两种表型:一种上午散发花粉而其柱头向上反卷,远离昆虫拜访的通道;另一种其柱头上午垂向唇瓣,能够接受拜访昆虫的传粉,但自身的花药却不打开。到中午时分,两种表型花通过互为相反的柱头卷曲运动转换性别——前者柱头向下卷曲,后者柱头向上卷曲且花药打开。每朵花的花期为12 h,两种表型在自然种  相似文献

异型花柱是一种受遗传因素控制的花型多态性现象,包括二型花柱和三型花柱两种类型.本文以茜草科艳丽耳草(Hedyotis pulcherrima)为实验材料,通过对其野外居群的花型、花部形态及花粉特征等观察,发现艳丽耳草野外居群同时存在长花柱型花和短花柱型花,长/短花柱型花的数量比例为1∶1.两型花具有精确的交互式雌雄异位特征,并且该特征与花冠长度相关性显著.长/短花柱型花的柱头裂片长度、花粉大小及淀粉含量等具有二型性.花粉体外培养时花粉萌发率及花粉管生长速率无显著性差异.人工授粉后,艳丽耳草长/短花柱型花型间异交花粉管生长形态正常,授粉24 h后花粉管均已进入子房.而长/短花柱型花在自交及型内异交下均表现为不亲和,花粉管生长停止于柱头,花粉管顶端累积胼胝质并膨大.艳丽耳草没有无融合生殖现象,型间人工辅助异交授粉结实率为100%,显著高于自然结实率.本研究结果表明,艳丽耳草是典型的二型花柱植物,并具有异型自交不亲和系统.  相似文献

比较研究了花柱卷曲性植物草豆蔻 Alpinia hainanensis两种表型(上举型和下垂型)的传粉生物学特性。结果表明:草豆蔻的花柱卷曲运动节律与其他已报道的山姜属Alpinia植物基本一致,而下垂型花的花柱卷曲运动明显滞后于上举型花约2 h。草豆蔻的花柱卷曲运动中存在一些不同步的现象,甚至在同一花序上的两朵花的花柱运动节律亦会表现出不一致的现象,但上举型花的花药开裂时间却严格同步,都发生在同类型个体的柱头全部位于花药上方之后进行。草豆蔻上举型花的花蜜分泌量、单花花粉量、花粉/胚珠比率(P/O)均明显比下垂型花多,而两种表型的胚珠数、花蜜糖含量、氨基酸含量无显著差异。在草豆蔻的单花期内不同时间段进行人工授粉,上举型花在其柱头位于花药下方时进行人工授粉,其结实率明显比柱头位于花药上方时人工授粉的处理高,下垂型花则没有显著差异。在自然居群中,草豆蔻的主要传粉者是无垫蜂Ameglla sp.和两种木蜂Xylocopa sp.,但存在传粉者不足而影响结实率的现象。完全套袋、去雄和去雌(去柱头)处理的均不结实,表明草豆蔻中不存在无融合生殖、主动自花授粉和滞后自交的生殖保障现象。而人工自交和异交均具有较高的结实率,表明草豆蔻为自交亲和植物。草豆蔻的繁育系统是具花柱卷曲性运动的异花授粉的交配系统。  相似文献

以马来良姜(Alpinia mutica)花柱为研究对象,研究光对花柱卷曲运动和花药开裂的影响.结果表明下垂型花柱的两次运动在光下和暗处都能进行,花药的开裂也不受光照影响.上举型花柱的第一次运动在暗处时向下进行,在光下时向上进行;暗处的花药不开裂,光下的花药开裂.第二次运动的方向和幅度取决于第一次运动期间的光照条件,第一次运动在暗处时,若第二次也在暗处,第二次运动不会发生且花药不开裂;若在光处,花柱向上运动.第一次运动在光下时,第二次运动无论光下或暗处,都向下运动.本研究表明,在不同光照条件下,两种表型的花柱与花药状态的组合使柱头接触不到同花的花粉,从而保证了雌雄异位与雌雄异熟.尽管两种表型的花柱运动和花药开裂行为相似,却受不同的机制调控.  相似文献

二型花柱植物通常具有自交不亲和性,在不同植物中所表现的可育性不同。欧报春(Primula vulgaris)是典型的二型花柱植物,为了探究欧报春的繁育特性,通过温室栽培,对欧报春的长花柱和短花柱的花部特征、花粉和花柱形态、花粉活力、柱头可授性、花粉/胚珠比、杂交指数、杂交亲和性、花粉管观察进行研究。结果表明,(1)长花柱和短花柱的花冠直径、花冠筒长度、柱头高度、花药高度和花筒中部直径均表现出两型性;(2)花粉和柱头观察发现花粉极轴长、花粉赤道轴长、花柱直径、柱头乳突细胞和花粉数量均有差异;(3)长花柱的花粉/胚珠比为384.20,短花柱为369.70,属于兼性异交类型;长花柱和短花柱的花粉活力和柱头可授性能在较长时间内维持较高活力;(4)长花柱杂交指数值为5,短花柱为4,表明繁育系统类型为异交,部分自交亲和,需要传粉者;6种授粉组合均能结实,异型花间授粉的结实数明显高于同型自花授粉和异株同型授粉;短花柱为母本的异型花间授粉组合亲和性优于其他组合;欧报春存在自交不亲和性,长花柱的自交不亲和性低于短花柱。  相似文献

花柱多态型的型比通过选型交配形成的负频率依赖的选择来维持。种群空间格局对于频率依赖选择所维持的花柱多态型是至关重要的。该研究使用摆放实验构建不同型比的马来良姜(Alpinia mutica)人工种群, 以评价花柱卷曲性促进选型交配的功能。使用邻域模型调查了云南草蔻(Alpinia blepharaocalyx)种群中的目标植株的坐果数、结籽数及其邻域中花序的数量和型偏以探讨在局域尺度上目标植株的雌性适合度是否受负频率依赖的选择。通过比较云南草蔻上举型和下垂型各繁殖性状的差异以及两型的功能性别的计算以评估两型功能性别可能存在的特化趋势。摆放实验结果说明花柱卷曲性形成的二型种群可以促进型间花粉传递。在局域尺度上, 云南草蔻两型倾向于同型聚集分布, 这一分布特点反映出其克隆生长特性。统计结果说明: 邻域中异型花粉供体相对丰富度对两型目标植株都无影响; 目标植株雌性适合度在邻域中不受负频率依赖选择的影响。这一结果并不支持负频率依赖的选择在该研究尺度上是影响种群型比结构的主要机制。云南草蔻两型个体在花期和果期的繁殖指标上不存在显著差异; 功能性别计算结果显示选型交配是种群内唯一的交配模式时, 下垂型功能性别偏雌性而上举型功能性别偏雄性。这一功能性别特化的趋势可能是通过对上举型的雄性功能的选择而造成的, 并可能与种群型结构相关。当功能性别计算只考虑自交而忽略近交衰退时, 种群功能性别偏向雌性。  相似文献

异型花柱植物的适应意义在于提高亲和花粉的传递, 从而促进异交, 但是有不少研究发现柱头上落置了大量不亲和花粉。目前, 很少有人研究柱头是否有利于亲和花粉的萌发和花粉管伸长, 以及通过去雄处理排除花内和植株内不亲和花粉干扰从而验证二型花柱植物是否可以促进异交。本研究以亚麻科青篱柴属(Tirpitzia)的二型花柱植物青篱柴(T. sinensis)为研究对象, 分居群调查了青篱柴长、短柱型的植株数量, 测量不同柱型的花粉与柱头大小以及观察其表面纹饰, 测定不同开花时间长、短柱型的柱头活性与花粉活力, 统计自然状态下柱头上落置的不同表型花粉比例, 进一步统计花内、株内去雄和自然对照下柱头上落置的不同表型花粉比例, 计算型间、型内和混合授粉花粉管长度和花粉萌发率, 人工授粉检测其是否型内异交不亲和与自交不亲和。结果表明, 自然居群中长、短柱型青篱柴植株数量没有显著性差异; 短柱型青篱柴花粉体积显著大于长柱型, 且二者花粉表面纹饰不同, 但不同柱型的柱头表面积与表面纹饰无差异; 青篱柴开花第一天的花粉活力显著高于开花第二天, 而柱头活性在开花前两天无显著性差异; 自然状态下柱头上落置的不亲和花粉比例显著高于亲和花粉; 在长柱型青篱柴中, 花内和株内去雄显著提高了柱头上亲和花粉的落置比例; 柱头上授型内花粉, 其花粉萌发率和花粉管的长度都显著低于授型间花粉; 授粉结果表明青篱柴为型内异交不亲和与自交不亲和。二型花柱植物通过促进亲和花粉的萌发和花粉管的伸长而有利于型间授粉, 从而显著提高其传粉精确性。  相似文献

主动自交一直以来都被认为是植物在面对极端环境,例如传粉者稀缺的情况下所采取的繁殖保障机制,它不利的一面主要表现为近交衰退和花粉或胚珠贴现。在姜科植物部分属,如山姜属和豆蔻属当中,存在着一种被称作花柱卷曲(flexistyly)的特殊机制。过去的研究认为这种机制的意义在于避免自交和性别干扰,但是根据我们的野外观察,如果下垂型花朵的花粉在其花柱开始向下弯曲时仍然留在花药之上,柱头就很有可能接触到花粉从而完成主动自交。为此我们探索了红豆蔻(Alpinia galanga)的繁殖系统,研究结果表明:(1)红豆蔻自交亲和,并存在一定的近交衰退;(2)上举型为异交,较之下垂型投入了更多的资源;(3)上举型的花粉胚珠比显著低于下垂型,由于红豆蔻的胚珠数是固定的六枚,故两种表型花粉胚珠比的差异反映了其花粉数目的差异。这可能与上举型仅仅为下垂型提供花粉,而下垂型除为上举型提供花粉外,还需要有足够的花粉以备自交所需。因此,红豆蔻当中存在主动自交机制,并且其花柱卷曲机制在避免不必要的自交和性别干扰的同时,也为作为繁殖保障所必需的延迟主动自交创造了有利条件。同时通过控制主动自交发生的时间达到避免三种功能之间的相互冲突。这种只在姜科植物当中存在的特殊机制充分展示了其进化过程中对不利环境的适应。  相似文献

Controlled hand pollinations and field observations were usedin conjunction with fluorescence and scanning electron microscopyand fruit and seed set to investigate the timing of stigma receptivity,pollen tube growth and self-incompatibility in relation to fertilityin B. coccinea. The species showed both protandry and partialself-incompatibility. Peak stigma receptivity as measured bypollen germination was recorded at 3 d after anthesis and maximumproduction of stigmatic exudate at 6 d. Pollen tubes reachedthe base of the style by 6 d after pollination. A 5 x 5 diallelexperiment was conducted and the results measured by pollentube growth. Self-pollinations generally resulted in poorertube growth than crosses and there was significant specificand general combining ability as well as reciprocal effects.Cross-pollination resulted in improved fruit set and seed toflower ratio over both selfing and open pollination. Spatiallimitations to fertility due to infructescence size were alsorecorded, but the combination of outcrossing mechanisms andspatial limitation did not entirely account for the low fertility.It is suggested that environmental conditions and the availabilityof resources may also exert an influence. BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Distyly has been hypothesized to promote cross-pollination by reducing intrafloral and geitonogamous self-pollination, and enhancing intermorph pollination. Distylous plants typically display both reciprocal herkogamy and a heteromorphic incompatibility system, which allows mating only between morphs. Distyly and its pollination consequences were examined in two Pentanisia species with long-tubed flowers which are pollinated almost exclusively by butterflies. METHODS: Anther and stigma heights were measured to quantify reciprocal herkogamy. The type of incompatibility system was determined by observing pollen tubes and seed production following controlled hand pollination. Pollen loads on pollinators and stigmas were also examined to assess the efficiency of intermorph pollen flow. KEY RESULTS: Pentanisia prunelloides and P. angustifolia exhibit reciprocal herkogamy and a host of ancillary dimorphisms, including pollen colour, exine sculpturing, stigmatic papilla shape and floral-tube pubescence. Controlled hand-pollinations revealed the presence of a strong heteromorphic incompatibility system in both species. The site of incompatibility differed between the morphs; intramorph pollen tubes were blocked in the style of the short-styled morph and on the stigmatic surface of the long-styled morph. Butterflies carried pollen from the short- and long-styled morphs primarily on their head and proboscis, respectively. Natural pollination resulted in a higher proportion of pollen transfer from long- to short-styled plants than vice versa. Nevertheless, fruit set did not differ between morphs. CONCLUSIONS: Both Pentanisia species are fully distylous. Reciprocal herkogamy results in pollen from the two morphs being carried on different locations on pollinators' bodies, which in turn promotes intermorph pollination. Intramorph pollination does not result in fertilization, because of an effective heteromorphic incompatibility system.  相似文献

Pollen germination and pollen‐tube growth under natural conditions were observed in a population of a distylous species, Primula sieboldii, in which partial self‐compatibility has been demonstrated in some long‐styled genets. We observed post‐pollination processes microscopically in styles collected after self‐morph and inter‐morph hand pollination (with standardized pollen load on the stigmas) in four genets each from the following three ‘genet types’: self‐incompatible long‐styled (SI), partially self‐compatible long‐styled (SC) and self‐incompatible short‐styled morph genets. Irrespective of the genet type, pollen germination began within 24 h after pollination and tubes of pollen reached to the style base with 48–96 h after inter‐morph pollination. Although pollen tubes germinated after self‐pollination in the SC genets, the number of germinated pollen tubes was significantly lower than in the case of inter‐morph pollination. Few pollen tubes germinated after self‐pollination of the SI or short‐styled genets. In SC genets, the rate of pollen‐tube growth did not differ between self‐morph and inter‐morph pollination (~1.9 mm/day). Therefore, differences in self‐compatibility between SC and SI genets in P. sieboldii are likely to be attributable to differential pollen germination rates rather than to differential pollen‐tube growth rates.  相似文献

Structural analysis of stigma development in sunflower highlights the secretory role of papillae due to its semi-dry nature. Production of lipid-rich secretions is initiated at the staminate stage of the flowers in stigma development and increases at the receptive stage, coinciding with an extensive development of elaioplasts and endoplasmic reticulum network in the basal region of the papillae. Transfer cells, earlier identified only in the wet type of stigma, are also present in the transmitting tissue of the sunflower stigma. Attainment of physiological maturity by the stigmatic tissue, accompanying development from bud to pistillate stage, appears to affect the initial steps of pollen–stigma interaction. The nature of self-incompatibility in Helianthus has also been investigated in relation with pollen adhesion, hydration and germination. Pollen adhesion to the stigma is a rapid process in sunflower and stigma papillae exhibit greater affinity for pollen during cross pollination as compared to self-pollination. Components of the pollen coat and the pellicle on the surface of stigmatic papillae are critical for the initial phase of pollen–stigma interaction (adhesion and hydration). The lipidic components of pollen coat and the proteinaceous and lipidic components from the surface of the papillae coalesce during adhesion, leading to the movement of water from stigma to the pollen, thereby causing pollen hydration and its subsequent germination. Pollen germination (both in self-and cross-pollen) on the stigma surface and the growth of the pollen tube characterize the flexibility of self-incompatibility in sunflower. Compatible pollen grains germinate and the pollen tube penetrates the stigma surface to enter the nutrient-rich transmitting tissue. The pollen tube from incompatible pollen germination, however, fails to penetrate the stigmatic tissue and it grows parallel to the papillae. Present findings provide new insights into structural and functional relationships during stigma development and pollen–stigma interaction.  相似文献

Various combinations of intermorph, selfing and intramorph pollinations were carried out in Averrhoa carambola and the pollinated pistils were observed under fluorescence and scanning electron microscopes in time-course experiments. In both compatible and incompatible pollinations, similar behavior of pollen germination and penetration was observed in the first 4 h after pollination. In compatible intermorph pollination, pollen tubes were found at the base of the transmitting tract of the style at 8 h and 24 h after pollination in both the pin and thrum morphs. With thrum flowers, selfing resulted in pollen tubes being uniformly arrested at the junction between the stigmatic and stylar tissues. Penetration of pollen tubes into the upper portion of style was observed in thrum intramorph pollination and, when the second member was treated as the gynoecial tissue under the same pollination, penetration of tubes was further enhanced. Pin flowers, on selfing, resulted in pollen tube penetration farther down the style than was the case with thrum selfing. Intramorph pollination of pin morph behaved in a similar manner to selfing and was not affected by genotypes. Beside the stamen-style dimorphism, the receptive surface of the cob stigma was larger in pin than thrum flowers. While pin pollen was round, thrum pollen was oblong in shape with pin to thrum ratio on the polar axis being 1.2 and on the equatorial axis 0.8. The stigma of pin morph belonged to the dry type, while that of the thrum resembled the wet type.  相似文献

Autonomous self pollination is considered to be a reproductive assurance mechanism for plants when facing extreme environments that scarce in pollinators, and it also has disadvantages like inbreeding depression and pollen/ovule discounting. In several genera of Zingiberaceae like Alpinia and Amomum, a specialized mechanism named flexistyly exists, precedent studies consider its significance as preventing unnecessary self pollination and sexual interference. However according to our field observation, if pollen grains on cataflexistylous (CATA) flowers remain on the anther when the style curves downwardly, potential exists that the stigma contacts the pollen, thus autonomous self pollination occurs. Here, we studied the breeding system of Alpinia galanga, the results show that (1) Alpinia galanga is self compatible in which inbreeding depression occurs to some degree; (2) The anaflexistylous (ANA) morph of Alpinia galanga allocates more resource into outcrossing than the CATA morph; (3) The P/O ratio of the ANA morph is significantly lower than that of the CATA morph, as Alpinia galanga has constant six ovules in each ovary, the significant difference in P/O value reflects the contrast in pollen production. This phenomenon may be interpreted as the ANA morph provides pollen exclusively for the CATA morph. But the CATA morph, despite delivers pollen to the ANA morph, also need its own pollen for potential autonomous self pollination. In summary, autonomous self pollination exists in Alpinia galanga, and while flexistyly functions to avoid unnecessary self pollination and sexual interference, it also provides advantages for delayed autonomous self pollination as a necessary reproductive assurance and preventing conflict among these three major features by controlling the time of autonomous self pollination. This peculiar mechanism in Alpinia galanga thoroughly demonstrates its adaptation to unfavorable surrounding during the evolutionary process.  相似文献

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Flexistyly is a sexual dimorphism where there are two morphs that differ in the temporal expression of sexual function and also involve reciprocal movement of the stigmatic surface through a vertical axis during the flowering period. The adaptive significance of flexistyly has been interpreted as a floral mechanism for outcrossing, but it may also function to reduce sexual interference in which styles and stigmas impede the pollen export. Here these two explanations of flexistyly were tested in Alpinia blepharocalyx through a hand-pollination experiment. METHODS: Hand-pollinations were performed in two temporal morphs and consisted of two sequential pollination treatments, namely self-pollination in the morning and inter-morph pollination in the afternoon (treatment 1) or conversely inter-morph pollination in the morning and self-pollination in the afternoon (treatment 2), and two simultaneous self- and inter-morph cross-pollination treatments either in the morning (treatment 3) or in the afternoon (treatment 4). Seed paternity was then determined to assess relative success of self- versus cross-pollen using allozyme markers. KEY RESULTS: In the sequential pollination treatments, whether the stigmas of recipients are receptive in the morning is crucial to the success of the pollen deposited. When the cataflexistylous (protandrous) morph served as pollen recipient, early-arriving pollen in the morning can sire only a very small proportion (<15%) of seeds because the stigmas were then unreceptive. However, when the anaflexistylous (protogynous) morph served as pollen recipient, early pollen did gain a large competitive advantage over the late pollen, particularly when cross-pollen arrived first. Simultaneous self- and inter-morph cross-pollination indicated that outcross-pollen is more competitive than self-pollen on receptive stigmas. CONCLUSIONS: Differential maturing of male and female organs in Alpinia blepharocalyx is sufficient for selfing avoidance, obviating the need for style movements. Instead, the upward style curvature of the cataflexistylous morph in the morning and the anaflexistylous morph in the afternoon most likely represents a means of reducing interference with pollen export.  相似文献

Seed set after selfing in E. grandiflorum is often reduced relative to seed set after crossing; however, the compatibility patterns seen are not due to genes of major effect (i.e., S alleles). There is quantitative variation in the proportion of pollen tubes reaching the base of the style after both self- and cross-pollinations. Pollen tubes require between 24 and 72 hr to reach the ovary, but pollen tube growth ceases after 72 hr. When styles were removed from the ovaries 5 days after pollination, between 10 and 80% of the pollen tubes in the stigma had not reached the base of the style. The number of pollen tubes at the base of the style is a much better predictor of seed set than is the number of pollen tubes in the stigma. Pollen tube attrition is not affected by the age of the recipient flower or by the number of pollen donors contributing to the stigmatic pollen pool. The number of pollen tubes reaching the base of the style is dependent upon the source of the pollen and appears to be a decelerating function of the number of pollen tubes present in the stigma.  相似文献

利用磷酸铅淀淀技术对荞麦(Fagopyrum esculentum Monch.)pin型植株分别进行亲和授粉和不亲和授粉后的柱头、花粉粒、花粉管进行了ATPase的超微细胞化学定位。结果表明(1)亲和授粉和不亲和授粉后0.5h,柱头细胞的ATPase活性反应水平较低或基于无酶活性;柱头表面、柱头上附着的花粉粒内ATPase活性在不亲和授粉时较低,亲和授粉时较高,花粉粒内ATPase主要定位于线粒体和精子细胞;(2)授粉后1.5h,不亲和授粉的柱头细胞及花粉管的ATPase活性均较低,花粉管停止生长,细胞质开始解体;而亲和授粉的柱头细胞及花粉管的ATPase活性均较高,ATPase主要定位于柱头细胞的质膜、胞基质以及花粉管的壁、质体的膜、高尔基体、线粒体上。根据不同时期不同部位ATPase活性的差异,我们认为荞麦发生自交不亲和时,花粉管在花柱中停止生长不仅是因此花粉管得不到花柱中的营养物质而引起的,可能也与花粉管自身物质代谢发生障碍有关。  相似文献
