BACKGROUND: A relatively small number of cases of primary malignant lymphoma of the uterine corpus have been reported, and it is rare for cases to be preoperatively diagnosed by cytology. CASE: A 59-year-old female experienced abnormal uterine bleeding of two months' duration. Preoperative evaluation of endometrial cytology revealed malignant cells. These cells demonstrated a rather round or oval configuration, with a markedly increased nuclear/cytoplasmic ratio, and were isolated and scattered in an inflammatory background. The nuclei were round or oval, and macronucleoli were marked. The cytologic diagnosis was malignant lymphoma. Postoperative histologic evaluation verified the presence of a primary malignant lymphoma in the uterine corpus, with a B-cell phenotype. CONCLUSION: Preoperative endometrial cytology correctly demonstrated malignant lymphoma of the uterine corpus.  相似文献

Summary The midgut of Blaberus craniifer is principally made up of columnar epithelial cells which are derived from small regenerative cells found grouped in nidi. Between them, small sparsely granulated cells with clear cytoplasm can be observed lying on the basal lamina. Mainly based on the size, shape and texture of their secretory granules, at least ten types of such endocrine cells have been identified. Five cell types contain a uniform population of dense granules: (1) medium-sized, round to oval granules; (2) small elongated granules; (3) large irregular granules; (4) oval granules with a highly osmiophilic core; (5) oval, haloed granules. Five others are characterized by a heterogeneous population of granules: (6) small, round to oval, variably electron-dense granules; (7) oval medium-sized granules of variable electron density; (8) large irregular granules of variable electron density; (9) small dense granules and large vesicles with filamentous material; (10) small dense granules and very large pale vesicles.In addition, near the regenerative cells, large cells characterized by very large, irregular, dense granules (up to 4 m), lack contact with the lumen, and reach the basal lamina only by slender cytoplasmic processes.Several antisera raised against mammalian peptides and amine were used to reveal axonal fibers and endocrine cells. Serotonin-like immunoreactivity is localized in a profuse innervation of the muscle layers that surround the epithelium, whereas cholecystokinin and methionine-enkephalin antisera stain a more moderate number of axonal fibers. Cholecystokinin-, methionine-enkephalin-, substance P-, vasoactive intestinal peptide-, somatoliberin-, and gonadoliberin-like immunoreactivities were detected in endocrine cells of the epithelium. While most of the cells appear pyramidal, oval, fusiform or bowl-shaped, and seem to lack contact with the lumen, cells reaching it have been detected reacting with antisera to cholecystokinin, substance P, vasoactive intestinal peptide, somatoliberin and gonadoliberin.  相似文献

Four endocrine cell types were identified ultrastructurally in the pancreas of the grass lizard, Mabuya quinquetaeniata. These cells were similar in shape, location and frequency to the previously described B-, A-, D- and PP-cells. The secretory granules of the B-cells were round or oval in profile, with an internal core of variable shape. The mean diameter of the B-cell granules was 780 nm (range 350–1000 nm). The A-cell granules were round, oval or irregular in shape and highly electron dense, with a narrow electron lucent space between the core and the limiting membrane. The mean diameter of these granules was 450 nm (range 200–750 nm). The D-cell granules were round, oval or irregular and of moderate electron density, with an average diameter of 340 nm (range 200–500 nm). The limiting membrane was closely apposed to the core or separated from it by a narrow lucent space. PP-cell granules were round with high electron density and with a narrow space between the core and the limiting membrane, and their average diameter was 150 nm (range 50–350 nm); these secretory granules accumulated at the cytoplasmic process. Tracing of the cytoplasmic processes of PP-cells in serially cut ultrathin sections revealed that most of these processes ended in the vicinity of blood capillaries, indicating that the PP-cells were endocrine rather than paracrine.  相似文献

A needle aspiration specimen from a left kidney mass in a 28-year-old woman was submitted for cytologic evaluation. Malignant cells were found, and the cytologic appearance was suggestive of a poorly differentiated sarcoma, with the possibility that it was a nephroblastoma. Important cytologic features of the needle aspiration specimen included round or oval blastomatous cells mixed with spindle or elongated sarcomatous cells, rare tubulelike formations of cells that appeared epithelial and a pronounced tumor diathesis. Histologic study of the nephrectomy specimen showed a Wilms' tumor, with anaplastic blastomatous and undifferentiated sarcomatous elements.  相似文献

In the ovine abomasum, 8 types of endocrine cells were classified at ultrastructural level. The gastric-type EC cells contained oval and pleomorphic granules with high electron density. The intestinal-type EC cells were filled with oval, irregular and highly dense granules. ECL cells contained irregular granules with high density and wide clear spaces. D cells were filled with round granules showing low to moderate density and finely granular matrix D1 cells contained round or oval granules with variable, low to moderate density and finely granular content. G cells showed round and oval granules with moderate density, densely packed or flocculent content. F cells were filled with oval or elliptic granules showing low density with a finely granular and flocculent matrix. X cells contained round granules with high density and homogeneous material. Gastric-type EC cells, intestinal-type EC cells, D cells, and D1 cells were represented in the cardiac, fundic and pyloric gland areas of the ovine abomasum. ECL cells and F cells were confined to the fundic glands, G cells and X cells to the pyloric glands.  相似文献

Pathologic consequence of tattooing is relatively rare, but in light of the great number of persons in military service, where tattooing seems to be popular, consideration of the complications seems worth while.Four unusual cases of patients with cutaneous lesions in tattoos are reported. One patient had Boeck's sarcoid, in which the cutaneous eruption was limited solely to the tattooed areas on the body and involved all the various colors of the tattoo. The cutaneous eruption was only a single manifestation of generalized sarcoidosis. Another patient had secondary syphilis with the cutaneous lesions involving multi-colored tattoos, including the red areas. These tattoos were applied in Hawaii, and presumably the red dye was not the usual cinnabar (mercuric sulfide). As a general rule, the cutaneous lesions of secondary syphilis do not involve the red areas because of the treponomicidal action of mercuric sulfide.In the third case the characteristic eruption of discoid lupus erythematosus was present. It began over the red areas of a tattoo on the patient's forearm. It has been stated that mercuric sulfide is a photo-sensitizing agent, and it is believed that this explains the localization of the eruption in this case. The fourth patient had eruption, caused by mercury sensitivity, in an area of tattoo. The eruption was noted soon after the tattooing was done, and it persisted for seven years.  相似文献

A new dicrocoeliid trematode, Brachylecithum glareoli n. sp., is described from the biliary ducts of the bank vole, Clethrionomys glareolus, in southwest Poland. This is the first dicrocoeliid species described in rodents from Poland. It is characterized mainly by the maximum body width at the level of the vitellaria; large, longitudinally oval testes; round, or transversely oval, ovary that is smaller than the testes; vitellaria located in the midbody; cirrus sac dorsally overlapping ventral sucker, but never reaching beyond half of its length; and large, distinctly elongated eggs.  相似文献

A total of 21 patients suffering from drug-induced rashes from practolol have been seen over the past two years. The clinical manifestations varied, with the morphological appearances of the rash resembling those of eczema, lupus erythematosus, lichen planus, and a highly characteristic toxic erythematous psoriasiform eruption. BACKGROUND: Cystic nephroma is an uncommon pediatric renal neoplasm. It needs to be differentiated from cystic partially differentiated nephroblastoma and from other renal neoplasms showing extensive cystic change. It is scantily reported in the cytology literature. CASE: A 7-month-old female with a left-sided abdominal lump was diagnosed as having cystic Wilms' tumor on computed tomography. Fine needle aspiration cytology showed cellular smears composed of monomorphic, round to oval cells, suggestive of a small round cell tumor, possibly rhabdomyosarcoma. However, histopathologic examination showed it to be a multicystic nephroma. On review of the cytologic smears, the blastemal component was absent. CONCLUSION: This case highlights 1 extreme and unexpected cytologic appearance of cystic nephroma; it may result in misdiagnosis.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. So called "inclusion" bodies in the cytoplasm of Iodamorba biretschlii cysts from rhesus monkeys ( Mocaca mulatta ) and domestic pips appeared to be hyper-parasites of unknown taxonomic position (posubly a protozoon or a fungus), They had a dot-like Feulgen-positive nucleus, cytoplasmic alkaline phosphatase, periodic acid Schiff -positive material, and proteins reacting to the bromophenol blue test. Their nuclei appeared to divide by budding and ultimately to produce six to eight minute, round or oval spore-like bodies. The Iodamoeba cysts mntaining these bodies had highly vacuolated cytoplasm, suggesting that the hyper-parasites had a degenerating effect on their host.  相似文献

A pituitary tumor with suprasellar and extrasellar extension was investigated by means of the squash-smear cytologic technique. The dominant cell type was large, round to oval cells, with pale-staining, finely granular cytoplasm. The nuclei of these cells often contained single or multiple inclusions of uncertain nature. There also were cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm, usually collected in small nests. Hyperchromatic "naked" nuclei, in various shapes, were immersed in a homogeneous, faintly staining ground substance. Mitotic figures were detected easily. Cytology of these combined cell types allowed the intraoperative diagnosis of a rather pleomorphic pituitary adenoma.  相似文献

BACKGROUND Metaplastic carcinomas of the breast are uncommon, and most display marked cellular atypia. Recently, a low grade fibromatosis-like metaplastic carcinoma was found and displayed little nuclear atypia. CASE A 74-year-old woman presented with a 2.5-cm, palpable breast nodule. Mammogram was reported as suspicious for malignancy. Cytologic examination revealed smears of low cellularity with most cells lying in clusters and having a round or oval shape. Rare cells had a "spindle" shape. Nuclear features were low grade. Rare individual cells had retained cytoplasm. Lumpectomy revealed a fibromatosis-like metaplastic carcinoma. CONCLUSION: Cytologically, fibromatosis-like metaplastic carcinomas are low grade lesions producing smears of relatively low cellularity. Separation from ductal carcinomas is necessary because fibromatosis-like metaplastic carcinomas rarely metastasize to lymph nodes.  相似文献

A new microsporidian parasite of a freshwater fish Mesocottus haitej from the Amur River basin of Russia is described using light microscopy. The numerous whitish xenomas, round or oval, up to 3.0 mm large were found to be located in subcutaneous tissue of the body and mouth cavity, in the intestine and other internal organs. The formol fixed spores are elongate oval, measuring 4.8 (4.5-5.0) x 2.3 (2.2-2.5) microm in a wet smears. Posterior vacuole occupies about half of the spores. Sporophorous vesicles measuring up to 13 microm contain a great number of spores.  相似文献

The time course of an x-ray picture from the normal bone structure up to the appearance of positive x-ray signs of aseptic necrosis of the head of the femur (ANHF) was followed-up. The former, appearing long before the development of clinical signs of disease, were foci of the rarefaction of a round or oval shape in the upper, central parts of the head of the femur, and along its periphery in somewhat dense or normal structure of the head of the femur.  相似文献

Part I of this report deals with the topical use of cortisone in a variety of skin diseases. Fifteen patients with chronic discoid lupus erythematosus, four patients with necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum, four with psoriasis, one with lichen planus and one with granuloma annulare were treated with cortisone ointment. All the patients with chronic discoid lupus erythematosus had some degree of improvement. In two patients with chronic lupus erythematosus, complete clearing of the eruption occurred. In four patients with necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum remarkable involution resulted. Patients with psoriasis, lichen planus and granuloma annulare were not benefited.Part II deals with the systemic use of cortisone. Eight patients with severe serum sickness-like penicillin reaction responded dramatically to parenterally administered cortisone. In two cases of pemphigus vulgaris and one case of Sulzberger-Garbe disease, the disease was kept in remission with cortisone administered intramuscularly as well as orally. Partial improvement resulted in a case of localized myxedema associated with malignant exophthalmus. Two patients with exfoliative dermatitis due to therapy with heavy metals responded dramatically to cortisone. No beneficial effects were noted in patients with chronic urticaria and atopic dermatitis.The systemic use of ACTH and cortisone in dermatology at present should be confined to patients with known fatal or hopelessly incapacitating diseases and to patients with extreme hypersensitivity reactions which may be protracted or life-endangering, and which can be controlled or cured with a relatively small total dosage of the agents in a short time.  相似文献

采用常规瑞氏染色和细胞化学染色方法对团头鲂(Megalobrama amblycephala)外周血细胞的显微结构及细胞化学特征进行了观察。在团头鲂外周血细胞中可区分出六类细胞: 红细胞、淋巴细胞、单核细胞、嗜中性粒细胞、嗜酸性粒细胞和血栓细胞。其中淋巴细胞是除红细胞外含量最多的细胞, 其次分别为血栓细胞、单核细胞、嗜中性粒细胞、嗜酸性粒细胞。成熟红细胞多为卵圆形, 表面光滑, 胞核呈椭圆形或圆形, 染色质较为致密; 淋巴细胞多呈圆形, 胞质较少, 胞核常偏位; 单核细胞多为圆形, 胞核呈圆形或椭圆形, 胞质内可见空泡状结构; 嗜中性粒细胞近似圆形, 胞核常偏于细胞一侧, 呈分叶状、肾形或椭圆形, 核质界限清晰; 嗜酸性粒细胞一般为圆形, 胞核为肾形或椭圆形, 胞质中充满紫红色颗粒; 血栓细胞形态多样, 主要有椭圆形、纺锤形、长杆状和泪滴形, 核质比较大。淋巴细胞呈α-醋酸萘酚酯酶(ANAE)阳性, 呈过碘酸-雪夫(PAS)、氯乙酸AS-D萘酚酯酶(AS-DCE)弱阳性, 呈苏丹黑B(SBB)、酸性磷酸酶(ACP)、碱性磷酸酶(AKP)及过氧化物酶(POX)阴性; 单核细胞呈POX、ACP强阳性, PAS、SBB、AS-DCE和ANAE为阳性, 呈AKP阴性; 嗜中性粒细胞除PAS和ANAE为弱阳性外, 其他染色结果和单核细胞相同; 嗜酸性粒细胞呈POX、ANAE强阳性, SBB、ACP阳性, PAS及AS-DCE则为弱阳性, 呈AKP阴性; 血栓细胞呈PAS、AS-DCE及ANAE弱阳性, 呈SBB、ACP、AKP及POX阴性。团头鲂外周血细胞的显微结构及细胞化学特征与其他鱼类具有相似之处, 但亦有其明显的物种特异性。该研究结果可作为监测团头鲂健康状态的依据, 为其养殖及病理诊断提供基础资料。  相似文献

Summary An electron microscopic study of the lateral and medial nuclei of the amygdala was undertaken as the first step towards establishing a basis for an experimental investigation of the afferent projections to the amygdaloid complex.The ultrastructural features of the two nuclei are, in general, similar. However two differences deserve mention. First, in the medial nucleus it was observed that frequently at least half the soma membrane was in apposition with glial processes. Secondly, dendritic spines were more frequently seen in the lateral nucleus. These differences may be related to the different phylogenetic origin of the two cell groups.Boutons en passant are a common feature in both nuclei.Most of the synaptic knobs could be assigned, on the basis of their vesicle content, to one of the following groups: 1. round to oval vesicles, uniform in size; 2. round to oval vesicles, varying in size; 3. predominantly flattened vesicles; and 4. predominantly dark core vesicles. At present there is not sufficient data concerning the afferents of the amygdala to allow any correlation of these four bouton types with the different incoming fibre projections.The major part of this investigation was carried out at the Anatomical Institute, University of Oslo, Norway and was supported by grants from the Medical Research Council of Canada.The author wishes to express her appreciation to Dr. Th. Zoosporangia form and size were studied on a collection of 94 strains of Plasmopara halstedii (sunflower downy mildew). Both oval and round forms were present in all strains analysed. The proportion of two forms varied significantly according to strain and plant age but more especially to host plant genotype. Whatever the strain or host genotype, oval zoosporangia were larger than round ones, but there was no relation between the proportion of the oval form and mean zoosporangia size. There was no relation between zoosporangia form or size and race virulence profiles or aggressiveness criteria, with the possible exception of zoosporangia size and sporulation density. It is concluded that, for this obligate parasite, although form and size of zoosporangia depend on pathogen strain, these characters also vary according to growth conditions of Plasmopara halstedii, in particular to the genotype of the plant host.  相似文献
