Primiparous sows from a commercial pig farm in central Brazil were utilized to investigate the effect of post-weaning gonadotrophins (given during summer) on estrus, time of ovulation and reproductive performance over three parities. One group of sows (PG600) was treated with a combination of 400 IU equine chorionic gonadotrophin (eCG)+200 IU human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) (PG600) 24h after weaning (n=420), whereas the control group received saline (n=408). In a subset of sows (n=150), estrus was detected and time of ovulation was determined by transcutaneous ultrasound. Treatment with PG600 increased the percentage of primiparous sows in estrus within 10 days after weaning (94.8% versus 79.7%) and reduced the first weaning-to-estrus interval (5.3 days versus 8.0 days) relative to control sows (P<0.05). Although the duration of estrus was longer (P<0.05) in sows given PG600 (65.7 h versus 61.0 h), the interval from estrus to ovulation was not different (P>0.05) between PG600 and control sows (46.6 h versus 43.3 h). Treatment with PG600 did not affect (P>0.05) rates of return-to-estrus and farrowing over three parities, but it increased the number of total piglets born (P<0.05) in the second parity (11.2 versus 10.4), thereby minimizing the magnitude of second-litter syndrome. Culling rates from the first to the fourth parity were 26.7 and 24.5% (P>0.05) for PG600 and control sows, respectively. In conclusion, PG600 given 24 h after the first weaning reduced the weaning-to-estrus interval and increased the size of the second litter.  相似文献

Selection of appropriate housing conditions for sows is critical for their physical health and long-term reproductive success. The present objective was to evaluate the influences of housing system postweaning (i.e., individual stalls (IS) or group pens (GP)), season and parity on piglet productivity of sows in a commercial setting. This study utilized 3 053 Polish Large White × Polish Landrace sows that were weaned at a rate of 20–30 animals per week at the median age of 4 weeks; 1 474 sows were moved into GP of seven to eight animals each, while 1 579 were placed in IS after weaning. Starting 2 days postweaning all animals were checked for estrus with a teaser boar and then artificially inseminated using 3 × 109 spermatozoa per dose of an inseminate at the onset of heat and 24 h later. The proportion of sows showing the signs of standing heat at or before 6 days postweaning was greater (P < 0.05) for sows moved to GP compared with IS; this difference manifested mainly in second parity sows weaned in the summer and fall. Conception and farrowing rates were significantly higher (P < 0.01) and the weaning-to-estrus interval shorter in GP compared with IS sows in every season but autumn. Mean litter size was lower (P < 0.05) in IS groups in summer, autumn, and winter, and the number of live-born piglets/sow was lower (P < 0.05) for IS sows in the summer and fall. Beneficial effects of group housing on piglet productivity manifested up until the seventh consecutive farrowing and then began to wane. In summary, there was a significantly greater proportion of sows going estrus “on time” (i.e., < 7 days) in group housing compared to single stalls but this effect was confined to the second parity sows during the summer and fall months; these results suggest the existence of a seasonal and age-related aspect to sow fertility worthy of further investigation. While both housing systems have their pros and cons, our present results indicate that, in commercial settings, group housing postweaning improved nearly all reproductive parameters of sows.  相似文献

Data were from 3119 farrowings in three large swine confinement units in eastern North Carolina. Litters were weaned during April through October. Interval to first estrus after weaning was greater during June through September than during other months. The two-way interactions among farm unit, parity and month weaned all affected weaning-to-estrus interval. Conception rate at first estrus was lower for primiparous than for multiparous sows and declined from April through July. Conception rate at first estrus was affected by farm by parity interaction. Weaning-to-conception interval was longer for primiparous than multiparous sows and was longer during June through October. Weaning-to-conception interval was affected by interactions of unit with parity and unit with month weaned. Total pigs farrowed at the subsequent farrowing was affected by unit, parity, length of the previous lactation and the unit x parity interaction. Overall, reproductive performance varied among farm units, was lower in primiparous than in multiparous sows and was reduced during June through October.  相似文献

Sows on two commerical farms were assigned to have their pigs weaned after a 3-week lactation (control, n=160) or after a 3-week lactation that included a 48-hr period of interrupted nursing before weaning (altered-suckling, n=122). Sows in the altered-suckling groups were paired, and each member of a pair was separated from both litters during the alternate 12-hr periods. Thus during the final 48 hr before weaning, each sow in the altered-suckling group had two 12-hr periods when no litters were present and two 12-hr periods when two litters were present. On farm 1, interval from weaning to estrus was 12.8 +/- 0.8 days for control sows compared to 8.4 +/- 1.0 days for sows in the altered-suckling group (P<.01). On farm 2, interval from weaning to estrus did not differ between sows in the control group and those in the altered-suckling group (6.2 vs 6.1 days, P>.05). Thus altered-suckling was effective in reducing the interval from weaning to estrus only when the normal rebreeding interval was prolonged (farm 1). Conception rates at first breeding and subsequent litter sizes did not differ between treatments. Altered-suckling may improve reproductive performance of sows in situations where prolonged postweaning anestrus is a problem.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to determine the effects of a) parity and season of the year on the interval from weaning to rebreeding in sows and b) altered suckling intensity (ASI) and gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) on the postpartum interval in primiparous and multiparous sows. Experiment I included 406 weaning-to-rebreeding intervals in 172 primiparous and multiparous sows. Primiparous sows returning to estrus during the spring and summer months had a longer (P<0.001) rebreeding interval (11.0 d) than the other groups (5.7 d). In Experiment II, 32 sows were assigned to a factorially designed experiment. The factors were ASI, GnRH and parity. Treatments were begun 7 d before weaning (about 4 wk of age). The ASI was accomplished by separating the sow from her litter for 12 h each day. The average interval from the beginning of treatment to the onset of estrus was 13.4 d and was not affected (P>0.33) by ASI, GnRH, parity or their interactions. None of the factors was found to affect the average weaning weight of the piglets (P>0.05); however, piglets in the ASI group were heavier (P<0.03) at 1-wk postweaning than those in the no-ASI group. The results showed that primiparous sows returning to estrus during the spring and summer months had the longest rebreeding interval. Additionally, neither GnRH nor ASI, separately or in conjunction, decreased the postpartum interval in sows.  相似文献

The objective was to determine whether treatment with 400 IU PMSG and 200 IU hCG (P.G. 600; Intervet America, Inc., Millsboro, DE, USA) at weaning improved rebreeding performance in sows that were limit-fed during lactation. Crossbred sows were allowed ad libitum access to feed or were limited to 3.2 kg of feed/day during an 18-day lactation. At weaning, limit-fed sows received im treatment with P.G. 600 (n = 16) or saline (n = 19) and ad libitum-fed sows received saline (n = 18). The percentage of sows in estrus by day 7 post-weaning was greater (p<0.05), and the weaning-to-estrus interval was shorter (p<0.05), for ad libitum-fed sows compared to limit-fed, saline-treated sows, with limit-fed, P.G. 600-treated sows having intermediate values that were not different from the other two groups. The percentage of sows pregnant and the numbers of corpora lutea and embryos at day 30 post-mating were not different (p>0.1) among groups. In summary, low feed intake during lactation decreased the percentage of sows that displayed estrus within 7 days after weaning and increased the weaning-to-estrus interval. These effects were at least partially remediated by gonadotropin treatment. Pregnancy rate, and litter size at day 30 of gestation, were similar for ad libitum- and limit-fed sows and not affected by P.G. 600 treatment in limit-fed sows.  相似文献

Sows (n=146) in a commercial herd were studied to determine factors affecting follicular populations and interval to ovulation after weaning. Ovaries were examined daily by ultrasonography beginning on Day 3 postweaning and twice daily from Day 4.5 until ovulation. Ovarian images were recorded on videotape on Day 3 postweaning and follicles were counted. Subsequent ultrasounds were used to determine time of ovulation. Sows with short weaning to ovulation intervals (or=9 days) weaning to ovulation intervals (P<0.001). Follicular populations in sows with intermediate (7-8.5 days) intervals to ovulation were intermediate in diameter when compared to sows with short or long intervals to ovulation. Parity and body condition score (BCS) affected interval to ovulation; first parity and low body condition sows had longer intervals to ovulation (P<0.001 and 0.05, respectively). The longer intervals to ovulation in first parity and low body condition sows were associated with lesser follicular diameters on Day 3 after weaning. We conclude that follicular populations measured by ultrasonography on Day 3 after weaning were different for sows with different intervals to ovulation. Furthermore, production factors (i.e. parity and BCS) known to influence interval to ovulation were associated with differences in follicular growth within the first 3 days after weaning in sows.  相似文献

The administration of PG600 to sows at weaning induces >90% of sows to return to estrus within a week, but farrowing rate and litter size are often not improved. This study evaluated the effects of adjusted artificial insemination (AI) times based on weaning to estrus interval (WEI) and estrus to ovulation interval (EOI) following PG600. All sows were given PG600 at weaning and allotted to adjusted (ADJ, n=47) or non-adjusted (NA, n=46) mating times after the onset of estrus. Adjusted mating involved: (1) 2-3 days WEI, AI at 36 h and 48 h; (2) 4 days WEI, AI at 24h and 36 h; (3) 5 days WEI, AI at 12h and 24h; and (4) 6-7 days WEI, AI at 0 h and 12h. Mating for NA occurred at 0 h and 24h after onset of estrus. There was no effect of treatment on return to estrus (92.9% versus 92.5%) or ovulation (92.7% versus 92.5% for ADJ and NA, respectively). The proportion of first AI occurring within 24h prior to ovulation was increased (83.8% versus 50.0%) and closer to ovulation for ADJ compared to NA treatment (19.4h versus 27.3h, P<0.05). Treatment did not influence (P>0.10) the proportion of second AI occurring within 24h of ovulation (72.8% versus 56.6%) but did influence (P<0.05) the interval from second AI to ovulation for ADJ compared to NA (10.6h versus 3.3h). The ADJ treatment increased (P<0.05) the proportion of sows that received an AI within 24h before ovulation (98.8% versus 87.0%). However, treatment did not influence pregnancy (87.4%) or farrowing (79.5%) rates but the NA treatment tended to increase (P<0.10) total number of pigs born (11.8 versus 8.9). In conclusion, while AI times for ADJ appeared to occur within optimal periods, farrowing rates were not improved and litter size decreased, suggesting that two AI at 12h intervals and closer to the time of ovulation may be detrimental. Overall, these data suggest that for sows injected with PG600 at weaning and receiving two AI, breeding at 0 h and 24h after onset of estrus is recommended.  相似文献

The efficacy of PG 600 (400 IU PMSG and 200 IU hCG) for accelerating the onset of estrus was determined for sows weaned during the summer. Yorkshire sows (average parity = 4.6), nursing 8.6 +/- 0.2 pigs (mean +/- SEM) were weaned after 27.7 +/- 0.4 d of lactation and were treated intramuscularly with either PG 600 (n = 35) or with 0.9% saline (n = 35). Sows were checked for estrus once daily in the presence of a mature boar. Treatment with PG 600 increased (P < 0.05) the percentage of sows in estrus within 7 d after weaning (97.1 vs 82.9%). Relative to controls, sows given PG 600 expressed estrus sooner (3.8 +/- 0.1 d vs 4.5 +/- 0.1 d; P < 0.01). Sows exhibiting estrus within 7 d after treatments were artificially inseminated 0 and 24 h after first exhibiting estrus. The percentage of inseminated sows that farrowed tended to be higher (P < 0.07) for control than for PG 600-treated sows (96.6 vs 82.3%). The number of pigs born live was similar (P > 0.1) for sows treated with PG 600 and with saline, and was 12.7 +/- 0.6 and 11.7 +/- 0.7, respectively. Pigs farrowed by saline-treated sows, however, tended to be heavier (P < 0.09) than pigs farrowed by sows treated with PG 600 (1.49 +/- 0.06 kg vs 1.34 +/- 0.06 kg). In summary, PG 600 accelerated the onset of estrus in sows weaned during the summer. Sows mated during the induced estrus, however, tended to have a lower farrowing rate and farrowed lighter pigs than control sows inseminated during a natural estrus occurring within 7 d after weaning.  相似文献

The effect of weaning to oestrus interval, oestrus duration, parity, lactation length, breed and their interactions on changes of vaginal impedance in sows after weaning and during oestrus was examined. The impedance measurements were carried out by a four-electrode method. The interval from weaning to oestrus was significantly longer in sows with the length of lactation 21-25 days than 26-30 days and 31-36 days and in primiparous than multiparous sows. The interval from weaning to oestrus was negatively correlated with the length of lactation (r=-0.21; P<0.05), parity (r=-0.36; P<0.01) and oestrus duration (r=-0.26; P<0.01). The weaning to oestrus interval, oestrus duration, parity and lactation length had a significant effect and the breed of sows had no influence on the vaginal impedance in peri-oestrus. The decrease of vaginal impedance after weaning was delayed in sows with a longer weaning to oestrus interval and in primiparous than multiparous sows. The decline of vaginal impedance during peri-oestrus was more gradual in sows with a longer interval from weaning to oestrus, shorter lactation, primiparous sows and sows with the length of oestrus 36 h and 72 h and more. The nadir of vaginal impedance occurred earlier before oestrus in sows with a shorter oestrus. The interaction of weaning to oestrus interval with parity and oestrus duration and the interaction of oestrus duration with parity significantly affected the vaginal impedance in weaned sows. In conclusion, the weaning to oestrus interval, oestrus duration, parity and lactation length considerably influence the vaginal impedance in sows during peri-oestrus. The findings indicate that the impedance technique may be a useful method for a study of factors and processes that accelerate or slow down the return to oestrus after weaning and affect oestrus duration in sows.  相似文献

The improvement in porcine embryo preservation and non-surgical embryo transfer (ET) procedures achieved in recent years represents essential progress for the practical use of ET in the pig industry. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of parity, weaning-to-estrus interval (WEI) and season on reproductive and embryonic parameters at day 6 after insemination of donor sows superovulated after weaning. The selection of donor sows was based on their reproductive history, body condition and parity. The effects of parity at weaning (2 to 3, 4 to 5 or 6 to 7 litters), season (fall, winter and spring), and WEI (estrus within 3 to 4 days), and their interactions on the number of corpus luteum, cysts in sows with cysts, number and quality of viable and transferable embryos, embryo developmental stage and recovery and fertilization rates were evaluated using linear mixed effects models. The analyses showed a lack of significant effects of parity, season, WEI or their interactions on any of the reproductive and embryonic parameters examined. In conclusion, these results demonstrate that fertilization rates and numbers of viable and transferable embryos collected at day 6 of the cycle from superovulated donor sows are not affected by their parity, regardless of the time of the year (from fall to spring) and WEI (3 or 4 days).  相似文献

The aim of this work was to determine the incidence of ovarian cysts in the breeding herd and their consequences in the reproductive performance of the herd. Data from 1990 cyclic sows from two farms, with 0-12 parities, lactation length between 6 and 47 days and weaning-estrus interval between 0 and 32 days were evaluated by ultrasound examination for cyst incidence. As cyst was considered an anaechoic structure with smooth and thin walls with a diameter larger than 2 cm that remained visible for at least 5 days after estrus onset. Cyst incidence was found to be 2.4%. Sows with ovarian cysts have a greater return to estrus rate (34.0 x 7.7%, P<0.01), and cysts were associated with around 10% of regular and irregular return to estrus patterns on both farms. The adjusted farrowing rate (52.2 x 90.0%, P<0.01) and anestrual sows that were not pregnant (10.6 x 0.6%, P<0.01) were also influenced by the appearance of ovarian cysts, but they did not influence litter size (P>0.05). The incidence of cysts was not influenced by parity (P>0.05). Sows with shorter lactation had a greater incidence of cysts (P<0.05). Sows with a weaning-estrus interval shorter than 3 days had a greater incidence of ovarian cysts (P<0.05). The time of the year had no influence on the incidence of ovarian cysts (P<0.05).  相似文献

Azaperone treatment can control aggression and decrease stress due to weaning, re-grouping and hierarchical fighting of gilts and sows. However, the effects of this butyrophenone neuroleptic and sedative administered at weaning on pig reproductive function are poorly characterized. In this year-long study, a total of 619 cross-bred sows (Polish Large White×Polish Landrace) kept on a commercial farm received an i.m. injection of azaperone (Stresnil®; 2 mg/kg BW) just before weaning and were artificially inseminated during the ensuing estrus with 3×109 spermatozoa per dose of an inseminate; 1180 sows served as untreated controls. Immediately after weaning, the sows were moved to four pens of seven to nine animals each. A teaser boar was used twice daily to check for estrus and sows were bred at heat detection. Subsequently, all sows stayed in individual stalls until pregnancy testing on day 30 post-artificial insemination and were then re-grouped until farrowing. The proportion of pigs that were in estrus within 6 days post-weaning was significantly lower in azaperone-treated groups of animals than in controls (71.4% v. 84.2%). Overall, the azaperone-treated sows had a significantly longer weaning-to-estrus interval (WEI; 8.7±10.1 v. 6.3±8.1 days; mean±SD) and a significantly larger litter size (LS: 11.8±3.0 v.11.3±3.2; azaperone-treated v. control sows). Treatment of the winter-farrowing sows was associated with increased LS (12.8±2.6 and 11.3±3.1 piglets/sow, respectively; P<0.05) and longer (P<0.05) weaning-to-effective-service intervals (11.7±19.3 and 8.4±12.3 days, respectively) as well as farrowing intervals (155.7±19.7 and 152.2±16.1 days, respectively) compared with untreated controls. In the summer months, significantly longer WEIs (12.1±21.0 v. 8.4±16.9 days) were accompanied by a significant decline in LS only in azaperone-treated sows that were inseminated within 6 days post-weaning (10.8±2.9 v. 11.5±3.3 piglets/sow; azaperone-treated v. controls). Azaperone-treated second parity sows had greater LS (P<0.001) along with prolonged WEIs (P<0.05) in comparison to their respective controls, regardless of the timing of estrus. An application of azaperone at weaning increased the annual piglet productivity of winter-farrowing animals and of second parity sows but depressed it significantly in summer. The extra cost and labor due to delayed onset of estrus may cancel out any reproductive benefits of azaperone treatment.  相似文献

We evaluated the effect of PMSG on the weaning-to-first service interval, total litter size and born alive litter size in swine. Four doses of PMSG (0, 500, 750 and 1,000 IU) were administered intramuscularly after weaning to sows at 3 different farms, grouped by parities (1, 2 and 3 or higher) and 2 distinct time periods. The associations among main effects and response variables were assessed by analysis of variance. Polynomial orthogonal terms were used to adjust the estimates of weaning-to-first service interval, total litter size and born alive litter size for the interaction effect of parity and PMSG treatment. The weaning-to-first service interval did not differ across periods and farms (P>0.05), although the interval was shorter (P<0.05) for Parity 3+ sows (4.97 d) than for Parity 1 sows (5.29 d), with no other differences in intervals observed across parities (P>0.05). Time period did not influence litter size (P>0.05), but there were differences in litter size across farms (P<0.05). Both litter size traits were lower for Parity 1 sows than for higher parity sows (P<0.05), but there were no differences in litter size between Parity 2 and 3+ sows (P>0.05). Litter size increased with PMSG dose in both Parities 1 and 2 (P<0.05), but not in Parity 3+ (P>0.05). A significant quadratic effect (P<0.05) of PMSG treatment in weaning-to-first service interval was observed for both Parity 1 and 2 sows, with the shortest intervals occurring with the 750 IU dose for Parity 1 sows. Administration of PMSG after weaning was associated with a shortened weaning-to-first service interval in Parity 1 sows and increased litter size in Parity 1 and 2 sows.  相似文献

Effects of supplementation of dextrose to the diet of sows during the weaning-to-estrus interval (WEI) on subsequent litter size and within-litter variation were investigated. After weaning, 223 sows (first to fifth parity) were fed 3.5 kg/d. Half of the sows additionally received 150 g of dextrose per day as topdressing on the feed. WEI and estrus duration were determined as well as subsequent pregnancy rate and litter size. Piglets were weighed individually at birth and at weaning (day 26.4; S.D.: 2.5). Supplementation of dextrose to the diet during the WEI did not affect WEI (106 h), pregnancy rate (88.2%), farrowing rate (84.2%), subsequent litter size (total born: 13.70), or birth weight (1599 g). The within-litter variation in birth weight was lower in sows on the dextrose treatment (CV: 17.5% versus 21.2% for the dextrose and control group, respectively, P=0.03). From this experiment, we concluded that addition of dextrose during the weaning to estrus interval did not increase litter size, but seems to affect the uniformity in birth weight of the litter.  相似文献

The objective of the experiment was to determine whether passive immunization against inhibin at weaning would increase FSH secretion and thereby influence postweaning reproductive performance in sows. Commercial Yorkshire sows (n = 173) were assigned within parity to 5 alpha-inhibin fragment antibody (alpha-IF-Ab) dosage groups: 0 (control), 3.25, 6.5, 13 and 26 RP-2 kU/kg alpha-IF-Ab. Antibody had been semipurified from ovine antisera raised against alpha-IF, a peptide that mimicked the N-terminal region of inhibin's alpha-subunit. A RP-2 U refers to a laboratory reference preparation. Sows were administered a single intramuscular injection of control solution or alpha-IF-Ab just before 21-d-old piglets were weaned. Blood samples were taken immediately before immunization and 24 h later. Sows were bred upon expression of estrus. Serum alpha-IF-Ab titers in sows 24 h following passive immunization increased (P < 0.001) with dosage. In control sows serum FSH concentrations decreased 24% by 24 h postweaning (P < 0.001). The decrease was diminished or prevented by alpha-IF-Ab treatment in a dose-responsive manner (P < 0.001). Most (167/173) sows were bred within 10 d postweaning, and wean-to-service intervals tended (P < 0.1) to be shorter in the 13 and 26 RP-2 kU/kg alpha-IF-Ab dosage groups. Farrowing rate was 72% (124/173) and was similar among sows in the alpha-IF-Ab dosage groups. Litter size, expressed as total or live piglets born per sow or per sow farrowed, was unchanged by alpha-IF-Ab treatment. Results demonstrate that 1) inhibin plays a key role in regulating FSH secretion at weaning, and 2) blocking the acute postweaning drop in FSH secretion has little if any effect on subsequent reproductive performance.  相似文献

Second litter syndrome (SLS) in sows is when fertility performance is lower in the second parity than in the first parity. The causes of SLS have been associated with lactation weight loss, premature first insemination, short lactation length, short weaning to insemination interval, season, and farm of farrowing. There is little known about the genetic background of SLS or if it is a real biological problem or just a statistical issue. Thus, we aimed to evaluate risk factors, investigate genetic background of SLS, and estimate the probability of SLS existing due to the statistical properties of the trait. The records of 246 799 litters (total number born, TNB) from 46 218 Large White sows were used. A total of 15 398 sows had SLS. Two traits were defined: first a binominal trait if a sow had SLS or not (biSLS) and second a continuous trait (Range) created by subtracting the total number of piglets born in the first parity (TNB1) from the piglets born in the second parity (TNB2). Lactation length, farm, and season of the farrowing had significant effects on SLS traits when tested as fixed effects in the genetic model. These effects are farm management-related factors. The age at first insemination and weaning to insemination interval were significant only for other reproduction traits (e.g., TNB1, TNB2, litter weight in parity 1 and 2). The heritability of biSLS was 0.05 (on observed scale), whereas heritability of Range was 0.03. To verify the existence of SLS data with records of 50 000 sows and 9 parities was simulated. The simulations showed that the average expected frequency of SLS across all the parities was 0.49 (±0.05) while the observed frequency in the actual data was 0.46 (±0.04). We compared this to SLS frequencies in 67 farms and only 2 farms had more piglets born in the first parity compared to the second. Therefore, on the individual sow level SLS is likely due to statistical properties of the trait, whereas on the farm level SLS is likely due to farm management. Thus, SLS should not be considered an abnormality nor a syndrome if on average the herd litter size in parity 2 is larger than in parity 1.  相似文献

This study investigated relationships between herd age structure and herd productivity in breeding herds; it also investigated a pattern in parity proportions of females over 2 years and its relationship with herd productivity in commercial swine herds. This study was based on data from 148 commercial farms in North America stored in the swine database program at the University of Minnesota. The primary selection criterion was fluctuations in breeding-female pig (female) inventories over a 2-year interval. Productivity measurements and parity proportions of females were extracted from the database. A 24-month time-plot in proportions of Parity 0 and Parities 3-5 females (mid-parity) was charted for each farm. Using these charts, a change in proportions of Parity 0 and mid-parity for each farm was categorized into patterns: FLUCTUATE (Parity 0 and mid-parity proportion lines crossed) or STABLE (the two proportion lines never crossed). Higher proportions of mid-parity sows were correlated with greater pigs weaned per female per year (PWFY; P < 0.01). Farms with a FLUCTUATE (73% of the 148 farms) pattern had lower PWFY than those with a STABLE pattern (P < 0.01). The STABLE farms had higher proportions of mid-parity sows, higher parity at culling, higher frequency of gilt deliveries per year, and lower replacement rate than the FLUCTUATE farms (P < 0.01). In conclusion, maintaining stable subpopulations with mid-parity and Parity 0 are recommended to optimize herd productivity.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to investigate the associations of weaning-to-first-mating interval (WMI) groups with reproductive performance, to determine the repeatability and the correlation coefficients in WMI groups between consecutive parities, and to investigate factors associated with the proportion of sows having WMI 4-6 days. This study was conducted using 55,690 parity records of 11,991 sows born during 1999 in 94 herds. Five groups of WMI were formed: 0-3, 4-6, 7-20, 21-27, and >/=28 days. The correlation and the repeatability of the WMI groups were determined using correlation analysis and variance component analysis. Mixed-effects models were used to analyze the associations of WMI groups with reproductive performance, and the associations of parity, lactation length (LL), and nursing piglets with the proportion of sows having WMI 4-6 days. The overall proportion of the WMI 4-6 days was 82.3%. Sows with WMI 4-6 days had the highest farrowing rate, and had more pigs born alive than those with WMI 7-20 days (P<0.01). At each farrowed parity, sows with WMI 4-6 days had higher parity at removal than those with WMI 7-20 days (P<0.01). The repeatability of the WMI groups was low (0.08), and the correlation coefficients of WMI groups between consecutive parities were also low (0.10/=7 days were also mated on 4-6 days postweaning at subsequent parity. Additionally, sows with parity >/=2, LL 24-28 days, and 9-10 nursing piglets were more likely to have WMI 4-6 days (P<0.01). In conclusion, sows having any WMI were more likely to be mated on 4-6 days postweaning at subsequent parity, and sows mated on 4-6 days had higher reproductive performance and higher longevity. Increased LL may increase the proportion of sows having WMI 4-6 days.  相似文献

The present study evaluates the effectiveness of the transcervical deep intrauterine insemination (DUI) with a reduced number of frozen-thawed boar spermatozoa in weaned sows. DUI was performed using a specially designed flexible device (length 180 cm, outer diameter 4mm, working channel 1.8mm, working channel's volume 1.5 ml) that was inserted through an artificial insemination spirette to cross the cervix lumen and moved into one uterine horn as far as possible. Spermatozoa diluted in 7.5 ml of BTS were flushed into the uterine horn by a syringe attached to the working channel. In Experiment 1, 111 hormonally treated (eCG/hCG) weaned sows were inseminated once using one of the following three regimens: (1) DUI with frozen-thawed spermatozoa (1000 x 10(6) cells per dose; n=49); (2) DUI with fresh semen (150 x 10(6) cells per dose; n=29, as control of DUI procedure); and (3) cervical insemination with frozen-thawed spermatozoa (6000 x 10(6) cells diluted in 100ml; n=33). No differences (P>0.05) were found for farrowing rates (77.55, 82.76, and 75.76, respectively) or litter sizes (9.31+/-0.41, 9.96+/-0.32, and 9.60+/-0.53 piglets born per litter, respectively) among the groups. In Experiment 2, DUI was performed on the spontaneous estrus in weaned sows (2-6 parity) with 1000 x 10(6) frozen-thawed (40 sows) or 150 x 10(6) fresh spermatozoa (38 sows). The farrowing rate of sows inseminated twice with frozen-thawed spermatozoa (70%) was significantly (P<0.05) lower than with fresh semen (84.21%). No significant difference (P>0.05) was found in litter size between frozen-thawed spermatozoa (9.25+/-0.23 piglets born per litter) and fresh semen (9.88+/-0.21 piglets born per litter). These preliminary results indicate that application of DUI provides acceptable fertility in weaned sows using a relatively low number of frozen-thawed spermatozoa.  相似文献
