It has been acknowledged that aging exerts detrimental effects on cells of the innate immune system and that neuropeptides, including neuropeptide Y (NPY) and NPY-related peptides fine-tune the activity of these cells through a receptor specific mechanism. The present study investigated the age-dependent potential of peptide YY (PYY) to modulate different granulocyte functions. The PYY reduced the carrageenan-elicited granulocyte accumulation into the air-pouch of aged (24 months) rats, and markedly decreased the phagocytosis of zymosan, as well as the H2O2 production, when applied in vivo (20 μg/air-pouch). The anti-inflammatory effect of PYY was less prominent in adult (8 months) and young (3 months) rats. However, the proportions of granulocytes expressing Y1, Y2 and Y5 receptor subtypes were significantly lower in both aged and young rats when compared to adult rats. Furthermore, the aging was found to be associated with the diminished dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DP4, an enzyme converting the NPY and PYY to Y2/Y5 receptor selective agonists) activity in plasma. In conclusion, the diverse age-related anti-inflammatory effect of PYY in rats originates from different expression levels of Y1, Y2, and Y5 receptor subtypes in addition to different plasma DP4 activity.  相似文献

This study was carried out to investigate diet selection and eating behaviour of lactating German Fawn × Hair Crossbred goats in different feeding methods and levels. Twenty German Fawn × Hair first backcross does (B1) were allocated into 4 treatment groups (2 feeding methods single (TMR) and choice feeding × 2 feeding levels ad libitum and restricted) with 5 replicates. Restricted feeding was applied only 4 h feed allocation during day. Barley, corn, soybean meal, corn gluten meal, wheat bran and alfalfa hay were feed ingredients for single and choice feeding. Eating patterns, milk yield and composition were determined for 8 weeks. The following results were obtained: (1) the meal criteria for goats restricted single and choice-fed, ad libitum single and choice-fed were determined as 1.00 and 0.63, 12.88 and 10.23 min, respectively. (2) Ad libitum feeding increased meal size, meal length, intermeal interval, total eating duration and decreased eating rate and meal number, compared to restricted feeding (P < 0.01). Choice feeding decreased meal size (P < 0.05), meal length (P < 0.01) and increased eating rate and meal number (P < 0.01), compared to single feeding. Restricted fed goats decreased intermeal interval in single feeding compared to choice feeding (P < 0.01), but increased meal number in choice feeding (P < 0.01). (3) Ad libitum choice-fed does made a diet containing 12.79% corn, 35.41% barley, 13.21% wheat bran, 5.35% soybean meal, 1.28% corn gluten meal and 29.80% alfalfa meal while restricted choice-fed does made a diet having more corn (27.69%), corn gluten meal (5.62%) and wheat bran (16.17%) and less barley (14.37%) and soybean meal (4.51%). (4) Choice feeding decreased RUP intake (P < 0.05) without affecting milk protein, irrespective to feeding levels, while having a tendency to increase in milk yield (14.2%) and 4% FCM (8.8%). (5) Restricted feeding decreased DM, ME, ADF and NDF intakes (P < 0.05) with concomitant decreases in 4% FCM, total milk solid, ash and fat compositions (P < 0.05), irrespective to feeding methods. (6) Choice-fed goats changed their preferences for a possible synchronized nutrient intake during a daytime, as sorted barley, soybean meal and alfalfa hay from early morning to late afternoon.It could be concluded that choice-fed goats have the ability to make their diet to meet nutrient requirements and had a tendency to increase in milk yield. Restriction in feeding time resulted in lower feed intake and milk yield, although the animal changed their feed preference in favour of high quality ingredients and eating pattern with lower meal criterion and intermeal interval.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo assess hypoglycemia caused by eating the last meal of the day earlier or its omission in “well controlled” type 2 diabetes mellitus patients treated with once-nightly basal insulin.MethodsPreviously basal insulin-titrated subjects (n = 20) (fasting plasma glucose, FPG, < 110 mg/dL and no self-reported hypoglycemia) underwent continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) during 3 consecutive eating conditions of 3 days each; (1) usual eating, (2) the last meal restricted to 18:00, and (3) 1 sequential meal omitted/day thereby creating a fasting day after transposing the 4-hour period after a meal with that when the meal was omitted. One 24-hour (00:00 to 00:00) period within each eating condition was selected for comparison.ResultsThe mean duration in all hypoglycemic ranges doubled (P = .0584 or greater) when the last meal was omitted or eaten at 18:09 ± 0:39 instead of 19:43 ± 1:01, the usual time for the subjects’ undisturbed eating. The mean duration of hypoglycemia was greatest between 00:00 to 06:00 compared to the 3 other 6-hour periods of the day.ConclusionsIncreased hypoglycemia occurs when the subject’s last meal is eaten earlier or omitted and may not be recognized because it occurs predominately during sleep. When titrating basal insulin from the morning FPG, considerations should be given to the effect of the last meal of the day and possible hypoglycemia between 00:00 and 06:00 to avoid excessive basal insulin treatment. Before meal patterns can be analysed properly, a biologically relevant meal criterion must be determined in order to group short-term feeding behaviour into meals. Existing methodologies are based on modelling of the frequency distributions of intervals between feeding events but these methods cannot be used if the proper distributions cannot be clearly identified. For such cases we developed two new methods – (1) based on the analysis of the distribution of between-meal interval lengths only and (2) based on the analysis of changes in the probability of animals starting to feed with time since the last feeding event. Both methods were developed using a data set of over 700,000 records of visits to feeders obtained with broilers (Gallus gallus) aged between 2 and 5 weeks. The two methods resulted in meal criteria estimates of 20.1 and 17.5 min, respectively, which, when applied to the data set, gave statistically significant but very small differences in meal characteristics. The new methods were tested against an independent cow (Bos taurus) data set and the resultant meal criteria compared with those predicted by an existing method. The two novel methods estimated meal criteria for cows at 27.9 and 35.5 min, compared with 28.9 min for the existing method. Again, these differences in meal criteria resulted in only very small differences in meal characteristics. Even though meal criteria were relatively similar for birds and cows, characteristics such as average daily number of meals (10.9 and 5.9), meal size (12.5 g and 7.4 kg) and meal duration (7.7 and 31.4 min) were very different. The analyses show that, if the appropriate distributions of intervals cannot be identified, meal criteria can still be estimated for species as diverse as mature cows and young birds by the novel methodologies developed here.  相似文献

The gastrointestinal peptide, peptide YY3–36 (PYY3–36) and its shorter peptide analogues have been reported to reduce appetite by activating the neuropeptide Y2 receptor (Y2R), which is associated with obesity and other metabolic diseases. A 14-amino acid PYY analogue, Ac-[d-Pro24,Cha27,28,36,Aib31]PYY(23–36) (3), showed high binding affinity and agonist activity for the Y2R, similar to that of PYY3–36, but had weak anorectic activity upon continuous administration in lean mice. Three amino acid substitutions [Pya(4)26, Aib28, Lys30], which contributed to the decreased hydrophobicity of 3, efficiently increased its anorectic activity. The compound containing these three amino acids, Ac-[d-Pro24,Pya(4)26,Cha27,36,Aib28,31,Lys30]PYY(23–36) (22), exerted more potent and durable food intake suppression than that by PYY3–36 in lean mice, as well as excellent Y2R agonist activity (EC50: 0.20 nM) and good subcutaneous bioavailability (66.6%). The 11-day continuous administration of 22 at 1 mg/kg/day successfully produced antiobese and antidiabetic effects, with more than 20% body weight loss in obese and Type 2 diabetes ob/ob model mice.  相似文献

Changes in extracellular matrix (ECM) are one of many components that contribute to impaired wound healing in aging. This study examined the effect of age on the glycosaminoglycan hyaluronan (HA) in normal and wounded dermis from young (4–6 month-old) and aged (22–24 month-old) mice. HA content and size were similar in the normal dermis of young and aged mice. Dermal explants labeled with [3H]-glucosamine showed decreased generation of smaller forms of HA in aged explants relative to young explants. Aged mice exhibited delayed wound repair compared with young mice with the greatest differential at 5 days. Expression of hyaluronan synthase (HAS) 2 and 3, and hyaluronidase (HYAL) 1–3 mRNA in wounds of young and aged mice was similar. There was a trend toward a decreased HYAL protein expression in aged wound dermis, which was accompanied by changes in detectable HYAL activity. Total HA content was similar in young and aged wound dermis. There was significantly less HA in the lower MW range (~ 250 kDa and smaller) in 5-day wound dermis, but not in 9-day wound dermis, from aged mice relative to young mice. We propose that decreased cleavage of HA is an additional component of impaired dermal wound healing in aging.  相似文献

AimsThe present study aims to elucidate the role of oxidative stress in erectile dysfunction associated with aging and to investigate the effect of treatment with vitamin E in this respect.Main methodsRats were divided into four groups: young (3-month-old), aged rats (18-month-old), aged rats given 80 IU of vitamin E/rat/day for 21-days, aged rats given 5 mg/kg of sildenafil/day for 21-days. Intracavernosal pressure/mean arterial pressure (ICP/MAP), nitric oxide production, TBARS, GSH levels and SOD activity in corpus cavernosum were measured.Key findingsSignificant decrease in ICP/MAP was observed in aged rats at both low and high frequency of stimulation. Significant increase in ICP/MAP was observed in aged rats treated with vitamin E over the range of 0.8 to 5 Hz but young control values were not restored. Percentage potentiation of ICP/MAP than aged group at 0.8 Hz was 326 ± 41.3% and 897 ± 72.2% for vitamin E and sildenafil respectively. Decreased levels of NO2/NO3 and SOD activity in the penile tissue observed with aging were elevated back to control by either vitamin E or sildenafil. Penile concentration of TBARS was 20.86 ± 0.83 for aged rats vs. 11.39 ± 0.79 nmol/g tissue for young controls. Both vitamin E and sildenafil reduced penile TBARS in aged rats.SignificanceThis study proves that antioxidant therapy with vitamin E ameliorates the age-associated erectile dysfunction. Sildenafil may exert some antioxidant properties which add to the advantages of its long-term use. The effect of combinations of low-dose sildenafil and vitamin E on age-associated erectile dysfunction merits to be studied.  相似文献

AimsTo examine the effects of global lack of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin 2 (PCSK2) in mouse on intestinal motility, post-fast refeeding response and levels of several PCSK-generated peptides known to regulate food intake and processing.Main methodsUsing male and female PCSK2 knockout (KO) and wild-type (WT) mice, intestinal motility was assessed by determining the percent of intestinal length travelled by a charcoal-dyed meal following an oral gavage; the refeeding response by measuring the amount of meal consumed following an overnight fast; the levels of the regulatory peptides by enzyme immunoassays or immunoblotting.Key findingsRelative to same-gender WT mice, KO mice exhibited delayed intestinal transit (P < 0.001 in females; P < 0.05 in males). Their post-fast feeding response was reduced in females during the first hour of refeeding (P < 0.05). The circulating level of substance P (SP) was lower (P < 0.001 in females; P < 0.05 in males); it was higher for somatostatin (SS) (P < 0.001 in females; P < 0.05 in males) and GLP-1 (P < 0.001 in females; P < 0.01 in males) and GLP-2 (P < 0.001 in both genders); it was higher for peptide YY (PYY) in female mice only (P < 0.01). Processing of brain proneuropeptide Y was impaired in both genders.SignificanceThe alterations in intestinal motility and post-fast refeeding response observed in PCSK2-KO mice correlate with changes in the circulating and tissue levels of the regulatory peptides tested, suggesting that PCSK2 is needed for normal food intake and processing.  相似文献

In vertebrates, the neuropeptide Y (NPY) family peptides have been recognized as key players in food intake regulation. NPY centrally promotes feeding, while peptide YY (PYY) and pancreatic polypeptide (PP) mediate satiety. The teleost tetraploidization is well-known to generate duplicates of both NPY and PYY; however, the functional diversification between the duplicate genes, especially in the regulation of food intake, remains unknown. In this study, we identified the two duplicates of NPY and PYY in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Both NPYa and NPYb were primarily expressed in the central nervous system (CNS), but the mRNA levels of NPYb were markedly lower than those of NPYa. Hypothalamic mRNA expression of NPYa, but not NPYb, decreased after feeding and increased after 7-days of fasting. However, both NPYa and NPYb caused a significant increase in food intake after an intracranial injection of 50 ng/g body weight dose. PYYb, one of the duplicates of PYY, had an extremely high expression in the foregut and midgut, whereas another form of duplicate PYYa showed only moderate expression in the CNS. Both hypothalamic PYYa and foregut PYYb mRNA expression increased after feeding and decreased after 7-days of fasting. Furthermore, the intracranial injection of PYYb decreased food intake, but PYYa had no significant effect. Our results suggested that although the mature peptides of NPYa and NPYb can both stimulate food intake, NPYa is the main endogenous functional NPY for feeding regulation. A functional division has been identified in the duplicates of PYY, which deems PYYb as a gut-derived anorexigenic peptide and PYYa as a CNS-specific PYY in Nile tilapia.  相似文献

Neuropeptide Y (NPY) Y1 receptors are implicated in CNS regulation of food intake, but their role in hypoglycemic hyperphagia remains unclear. The present studies utilized a pharmacological approach to investigate the hypothesis that NPY acts via Y1 receptor-dependent mechanisms to regulate feeding and blood glucose profiles during intermediate insulin-induced hypoglycemia. Groups of ovariectomized, estradiol benzoate-treated female rats were injected subcutaneously with one or four doses of neutral protamine Hagedorn insulin (NPH), on as many days, or with diluent alone. Before final treatments on day four, the animals were pretreated by intracerebroventricular (icv) delivery of the NPY Y1 receptor antagonist, 1229U91, or the vehicle, artificial cerebrospinal fluid (acsf). Food intake during acute hypoglycemia was significantly diminished between to and + 2 h in animals pretreated with the Y1 receptor antagonist versus vehicle. Administration of 1229U91 prior to the fourth of four NPH doses suppressed hypoglycemic hyperphagia over a relatively longer interval, e.g. 4 h, after to relative to the acute insulin group. Blood glucose levels after a single NPH injection were similar in acsf- and antagonist-pretreated rats at + 2, + 4, and + 6 h, but were lower at + 9 h in the latter group. Pretreatment with 1229U91 did not modify glucose profiles between + 2 and + 9 h after multiple dosing with NPH, but prevented recovery from hypoglycemia at + 12 h. The present results show that central NPY Y1 receptor antagonism inhibits hypoglycemic hyperphagia, and that this suppressive effect on feeding was of greater duration during recurring hypoglycemia. The data also show that Y1 receptor blockade decreases glycemic responses to both single and serial NPH dosing, albeit at different post-injection time points. The current studies support the view that NPY Y1 receptors function within central neural pathways that govern feeding and glycemic responses to intermediate-acting insulin, and that Y1 receptor-mediated stimulation of food intake may habituate in a positive manner to repetitive insulin-induced hypoglycemia. Further research is needed to evaluate the impact of chronic insulin-induced hypoglycemia on neuropeptide Y neurotransmission and Y1 receptor expression within regulatory circuitries that control food intake and glucostasis.  相似文献

This study was carried out to compare behavioural activities of Awassi lambs in cafeteria feeding system with conventional feeding (control) that animals fed concentrate. Sixteen, 3-month-old male lambs were housed individually for 42 days. The main effect was on the feeding systems, cafeteria and control. Cafeteria lambs (n=8) were offered the main ingredients (barley, cotton seed meal (CSM), wheat bran and alfalfa straw), while control animals (n=8) were fed a single diet (48% barley, 22% cottonseed meal, 18% wheat bran, 10% alfalfa and 2% vitamin–mineral mixture; having 2467 Kcal ME and 161 g kg−1) with the same main ingredients with slightly higher nutrient content for growth. Food and water intakes were recorded daily, while behavioural observations were recorded twice a week for a period of 1 h at 5 min intervals at 13:00, 16:00, 19:00, 22:00, 01:00, 04:00, 07:00 and 10:00 h after the initiation of daily feeding. After every 5 min, each lamb was monitored to determine its eating, ruminating, drinking, walking, standing, playing, resting and other activities.Cafeteria lambs selected a diet that matched their growth requirement as did control lambs. However, cafeteria lambs ate more (P<0.01). Cafeteria animals preferred cotton seed meal (42.4%) to barley (32.9%) without changing their water intake, final live weight and daily gain (P>0.05). Cafeteria lambs also had higher rates of eating (22% versus 19%, P<0.01), ruminating (24% versus 23%, P>0.05) and resting (29% versus 23%, P<0.01) than the control lambs. On the other hand, cafeteria lambs spent less time standing (19% versus 25%, P<0.01) and walking (1.5% versus 2.1%, P<0.01) compared with control animals. In conclusion, cafeteria lambs selected a diet that matched their presumed biological (behavioral and nutritional) needs without changing their growth performance.  相似文献

Background

Rats prefer energy-rich foods over chow and eat them to excess. The pattern of eating elicited by this diet is unknown. We used the behavioral satiety sequence to classify an eating bout as a meal or snack and compared the eating patterns of rats fed an energy rich cafeteria diet or chow.

Methods

Eight week old male Sprague Dawley rats were exposed to lab chow or an energy-rich cafeteria diet (plus chow) for 16 weeks. After 5, 10 and 15 weeks, home-cage overnight feeding behavior was recorded. Eating followed by grooming then resting or sleeping was classified as a meal; whereas eating not followed by the full sequence was classified as a snack. Numbers of meals and snacks, their duration, and waiting times between feeding bouts were compared between the two conditions.

Results

Cafeteria-fed rats ate more protein, fat and carbohydrate, consistently ingesting double the energy of chow-fed rats, and were significantly heavier by week 4. Cafeteria-fed rats tended to take multiple snacks between meals and ate fewer meals than chow-fed rats. They also ate more snacks at 5 weeks, were less effective at compensating for snacking by reducing meals, and the number of snacks in the majority of the cafeteria-fed rats was positively related to terminal body weights.

Conclusions

Exposure to a palatable diet had long-term effects on feeding patterns. Rats became overweight because they initially ate more frequently and ultimately ate more of foods with higher energy density. The early increased snacking in young cafeteria-fed rats may represent the establishment of eating habits that promote weight gain.  相似文献

目的:探究YY肽(PYY)对雄性Wistar大鼠的摄食、胃运动和能量代谢的影响及潜在机制。方法:采用免疫组织化学实验方法观察大鼠下丘脑弓状核(ARC)中Y2受体的表达;通过ARC微量注射PYY,观察其对下丘脑中编码摄食相关代谢激素的m RNA表达以及ARC中PYY反应性神经元的放电频率、食物摄入量及水摄入量、氧气消耗(VO_2)、CO_2产生(VCO_2)及能量代谢的影响。结果:免疫组化结果显示大鼠ARC内存在Y2受体;大鼠ARC注射PYY能够兴奋PYY反应性神经元,上调可卡因-苯丙胺调节转录肽(CART)及促肾上腺皮质释放激素(CRH)等抑食肽m RNA的表达,下调神经肽Y(NPY)及下丘脑泌素(HCRT)等促食肽m RNA的表达;且抑制大鼠食物摄入量,并参与调控大鼠呼吸、能量代谢及胃运动的改变。结论:ARC微量注射PYY可减少食物摄入并调节全身能量平衡,PYY可能是一种新型代谢肽。  相似文献

PurposeKososan (KSS), a traditional Japanese medicine with a distinct aroma, is clinically used to treat affective disorders but its antidepressant-like effect has not been thoroughly investigated. In this study, we investigated the effects of inhaled and orally administered KSS on sleep disturbances in socially isolated mice.MethodsFour-weeks-old male ddy mice were housed either in social isolation or in groups for 4–6 weeks before the experiment. KSS was orally administered (0.5 or 1.0 g/kg) or inhaled (0.5, 1.0, or 2.5 g/0.125 m3) 60 min before pentobarbital administration. Stress levels in mice were evaluated by the duration of pentobarbital-induced sleeping time.ResultsSleeping time was shorter in socially-isolated mice than in group-housed mice. Oral and inhaled KSS prolonged sleeping time in stressed mice, but had no effect on sleeping time of group-housed mice. Prolonged sleeping time after oral KSS was significantly inhibited (p < 0.05) by bicuculline (3 mg/kg, i.p.), a GABAA antagonist, but not by flumazenil (3 mg/kg, i.p.), a selective benzodiazepine antagonist. Prolonged sleeping time after KSS inhalation was significantly inhibited (p < 0.05) by flumazenil but not by bicuculline.ConclusionsOur findings suggest that KSS activates GABAA-benzodiazepine receptor complex and reverses shortened pentobarbital-induced sleep caused by social isolation.  相似文献

Objective: To determine whether basal plasma peptide‐YY (PYY) levels in overweight, middle‐aged black women are different from those of white women of similar BMI and age and ascertain whether there is a difference between the two groups in plasma PYY levels in response to a liquid high fat load. Research Methods and Procedures: Using a commercial radioimmunoassay kit, the concentration of PYY was measured at baseline and at 2, 4, 6, and 8 hours after ingesting a fatty liquid meal (86.5% of the calories from fat) in 12 black and 12 white women who were matched for age and BMI. Results: PYY levels (picograms per milliliter) at baseline and at every other time‐point of the test meal were significantly lower in the black than in the white group. In addition, the change in PYY concentration from baseline was lower in the black than in the white group only at 8 hours after the meal. Discussion: The lower baseline level and the blunted PYY response of the black women to the fat load indicated that this signal for appetite suppression was reduced, which, in turn, might contribute to the enhanced obesity of the black women.  相似文献

AimsLate phase ischemic preconditioning (LPC) protects the heart against ischemia–reperfusion (I/R) injury. However, its effect on myocardial tissue oxygenation and related mechanism(s) is unknown. The aim of the current study is to determine whether LPC attenuates post-ischemic myocardial tissue hyperoxygenation through preserving mitochondrial oxygen metabolism.Main methodsC57BL/6 mice were subjected to 30 min coronary ligation followed by 60 min or 24 h reperfusion with or without LPC (3 cycles of 5 min I/5 min R): Sham, LPC, I/R, and LPC + I/R group. Myocardial tissue Po2 and redox status were measured with electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy.Key findingsUpon reperfusion, tissue Po2 rose significantly above the pre-ischemic level in the I/R mice (23.1 ± 2.2 vs. 12.6 ± 1.3 mm Hg, p < 0.01). This hyperoxygenation was attenuated by LPC in the LPC + I/R mice (11.9 ± 2.0 mm Hg, p < 0.01). Activities of NADH dehydrogenase (NADH-DH), succinate-cytochrome c reductase (SCR) and cytochrome c oxidase (CcO) were preserved or increased in the LPC group, significantly reduced in the I/R group, and conserved in the LPC + I/R group. Manganese superoxide dismutase (Mn-SOD) protein expression was increased by LPC in the LPC and LPC + I/R mice compared to that in the Sham control (1.24 ± 0.01 and 1.23 ± 0.01, p < 0.05). Tissue redox status was shifted to the oxidizing state with I/R (0.0268 ± 0.0016/min) and was corrected by LPC in the LPC + I/R mice (0.0379 ± 0.0023/min). Finally, LPC reduced the infarct size in the LPC + I/R mice (10.5 ± 0.4% vs. 33.3 ± 0.6%, p < 0.05).SignificanceThus, LPC preserved mitochondrial oxygen metabolism, attenuated post-ischemic myocardial tissue hyperoxygenation, and reduced I/R injury.  相似文献

ObjectivesTo estimate the prevalence of obesity and overweight in children and adolescents in our city and to investigate the associated factors.Subjects and methodsA cross-sectional study of 1317 children and adolescents aged 2-16 years. Multistage probability sampling was used to select three groups of subjects: 411 aged 12 to 16 years, 504 aged 6 to 12 years, and 402 aged 2 to 6 years. Body mass index was calculated, and obesity and overweight were diagnosed using the threshold levels of the International Obesity Task Force for children and adolescents. Parents were asked about eating habits, health, social, and demographic aspects. Results are given as percentages (95% confidence interval). The relationship between obesity and overweight and the different variables was studied using multiple logistic regression. The adjusted odds ratio (OR) was calculated.ResultsAmong children and adolescentes aged 2-16 years, 9.5% (8.0%-11.0%) were obese and 22.4% (23.3%-24.6%) were overweight. Of subjects aged 12-16 years, 8.5% (5.9%-11.2%) were obese and 20.5% (16.7%-24.3%) were overweight. In the groups aged 6-12 years and 2-6 years, rates of obesity and overweight were 11.6% (8.9% -14.3%) and 31.0% (27.0-35.0) and 8.0% (5.4%-10.6%) and 13.6% (10.3%-16.9%) respectively. Obesity or overweight was associated to age (OR 1.21; P< 0.001), maternal obesity (OR 10.99; P= 0.008), a birthweight higher than 4 kg (OR 2.91; p 0.002), and formula feeding (OR 1.82; P= 0.005).ConclusionObesity and overweight in children and adolescents are highly prevalent problems in our city.  相似文献

True metabolizable energy of crambe meal was determined with adult cecectomized turkeys to be 11.8 kJ(2.8 kcal)g−1. Amino acid digestibilities were 90% or greater, indicating that protein quality of crambe meal was high. Growing broilers were fed diets containing 0, 50, 100 or 150 (g crambe meal) kg−1 diet (control, 50C, 100C and 150C, respectively) for 56 days. Feed intake for the 150C birds was lower than the other treatments initially; at the end of the experiment, intake of the 150C birds compensated and was similar to the control birds. Weight gain patterns were similar to intake responses. Birds on the 150C treatment had reduced tibial ash content and locomotor difficulties in the first half of the experiment; these effects were absent in the second half of the experiment. Meat quality and serum chemistries were unaffected by feeding crambe meal. Broilers fed the 150C diet had increased liver and kidney weights. Broilers can be fed diets containing up to 50 (g crambe meal) kg−1 diet with no adverse effects on gain and health and up to 100 g kg−1 diet with minimal adverse effects on gain and health.  相似文献

AimsThe purpose of this study was to investigate the cytoprotective role of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) induction in hepatic injury in alcoholic steatotic liver exposed to cold ischemia/reperfusion (I/R).Main methodsAnimals were fed an ethanol liquid diet or isocaloric control diet for 5 weeks. Isolated perfused rat livers were preserved in Histidine–Tryptophan–Ketoglutarate at 4 °C. After 24 h of storage, livers were subjected to 120 min of reperfusion with Krebs–Henseleit bicarbonate buffer at 37 °C. Animals were pretreated with cobalt protoporphyrin (CoPP, 5 mg/kg, i.p.) or zinc protoporphyrin (ZnPP, 25 mg/kg, i.p.), HO-1 inducer and antagonist, respectively.Key findingsIn the model of ischemia/isolated perfusion, endogenous HO-1 was downregulated in the livers fed with ethanol diet (ED I/R). In ED I/R group, portal pressure and lactate dehydrogenase release were significantly increased, while bile output and hyaluronic acid clearance decreased compared to rats fed on control diet (CD I/R). Furthermore, hepatic glutathione content decreased and lipid peroxidation increased in the ED I/R group compared to the CD I/R group. These alterations were attenuated by upregulation of HO-1 with CoPP pretreatment.SignificanceOur results suggest that chronic ethanol consumption aggravates hepatic injury during cold I/R and it is likely due to downregulation of endogenous HO-1. Prior induction of HO-1 expression may provide a new strategy to protect livers against hepatic I/R injury or to increase the donor transplant pool through modulation of marginal alcoholic steatotic livers.  相似文献

Following a meal, a series of physiological changes occurs in animals as they digest, absorb and assimilate ingested nutrients, the kinetics of these responses depends on metabolic rate and nutrient quality. Here we investigated the hepatic proteome in the ectothermic teleost, the rainbow trout, following a single meal to define the postprandial expression of hepatic proteins. The fish were fed a high marine fishmeal/fish oil single meal following a period of 24 h without feeding. Liver protein profiles were examined by 2D gel electrophoresis just before feeding (time 0 h) and at 6 and 12 h after feeding. Of a total of 588 protein spots analysed in a temporal fashion, 49 differed significantly in abundance between the three time groups (ANOVA, p<0.05), before and after feeding, 15 were increased and 34 were decreased in abundance after feeding. Amino acid metabolism-regulated proteins such as phenylalanine-4-hydroxylase and proliferating cell antigen were increased in abundance 12 and 6 h following the meal, suggesting by this time that the fish were increasing their protein turnover to utilize efficiently their dietary protein consumption. Overall, these results highlight some specificity of the trout metabolism and identify postprandial response of metabolism-related proteins 6–12 h after feeding a single meal.  相似文献
