Equol production, isoflavone excretion, and the salivary estradiol profile among 36 females, native Irish Caucasian volunteers following ingestion of 200mL soymilk is reported. The soymilk contained daidzein (73+/-6.7mg) and genistein (86+/-10.2mg). Volunteers provided personal and family medical history. Dietary analysis revealed that all volunteers regularly consumed soy-based or soy-supplemented food products. The mean age, mean age at menarche, and body mass index of volunteers were 46.6+/-12.3 years, 13.1 years and 26.1, respectively. The average number of children per volunteer was 2.13. Twelve (34%) of the volunteers were found to be first-degree relatives of breast cancer patients. Following consumption of the soymilk, equol was detected in the urine of 18 (51%) of the volunteers. Mean urinary daidzein and genistein concentrations during the hours following soymilk ingestion were 13.5 and 16.7microg/mg creatinine, respectively, however, some volunteers excreted little (less than 4.0microg/mg) or no isoflavone. Salivary estradiol in most (24) volunteers had decreased from 51.5+/-28.67pmol/L pre-ingestion to 29.75+/-16.13pmol/L 5h after drinking the soymilk. However, the salivary estradiol in 12 subjects (34%) increased from 33.76+/-13.4pmol/L to 137.4+/-65.64pmol/L over the same period. Individuals whose salivary estradiol increased had significantly less children (1.58 (P<0.05)), were more likely to (a) return urine samples with low isoflavone content (50.3% compared to 25%), (b) to be equol producers (67% compared to 41.7%), and (c) to be first-degree relatives of breast cancer patients (41.7% compared to 25%). Volunteers who reported a first-degree link to breast cancer were more likely to have a higher body mass index (29.0 compared to 26.1 (P<0.05)), to be equol producers (75% compared to 51%), and to excrete isoflavones in low quantities only (60% compared to 50%). First-degree relatives also had fewer children (1.75 (P<0.05)). The results indicate a significant, distinctive variation in equol production, isoflavone excretion and salivary estradiol profile among individual volunteers following ingestion of soymilk.  相似文献

A grazing experiment was carried out to study the concentration of phyto-oestrogens in herbage for cattle and in milk during two periods (May and June). Forty-eight Danish Holstein cows were divided into four groups with four treatment diets; white clover, red clover, lucerne and chicory-rich pastures. Each experimental period lasted 15 days. Herbage samples from the first day and individual milk samples from the last day of the experimental period were analysed for phyto-oestrogens using LC-MS technique. The total concentration of phyto-oestrogens was 21 399 mg/kg dry matter (DM) for red clover and 238 to 466 mg/kg DM for the other three herbages mainly due to a much higher concentration of biochanin A, formononetin and glycitein in red clover. In the milk, the total concentration of phyto-oestrogens was 253 to 397 μg/l for red clover milk and 56 to 91 μg/l in the milk from the other three treatments. This was especially due to a higher concentration of equol, daidzein and formononetin in the red clover milk. The concentration of biochanin A was significantly higher in milk from the red clover treatment in May while no differences were observed in June. Enterodiol was similar across treatments while the concentration of enterolactone was significantly lower for red clover milk compared with the other treatments. Of the tested pastures, red clover appears to have the highest concentration and to be the best source of phyto-oestrogens, especially equol, in bovine milk.  相似文献

Adult clover root weevil Sitona lepidus show a feeding preference for white clover Trifolium repens over red clover Trifolium pratense. The effects on S. lepidus of three red clover T. pratense lines, selected for high, medium, or low levels of the isoflavone formononetin in foliage, were compared in three experiments using white clover as a control. In a no‐choice slant board experiment, weevil larval weights were greater for larvae feeding on white clover roots than those feeding on roots of the red clovers. The effect of larval root herbivory on plant growth was similar for all four clovers. Following root herbivory, a large increase in root and shoot formononetin levels was observed in the high‐formononetin selection of red clover but little change in the low‐formononetin red clover. In a no‐choice experiment with sexually mature female adult weevils feeding on foliage of the four clovers, all the red clovers had increased weevil mortality. Female weevils eating the high‐formononetin red clover laid fewer eggs than weevils eating white clover. The red clover diet caused a large accumulation of abdominal fat and/or oil in the weevils, whereas weevils feeding on white clover did not accumulate fat/oil. When sexually immature adult weevils were given a choice of foliage from all four clovers, white clover was eaten preferentially, and the low‐formononetin red clover was preferred to the high‐formononetin red clover. The results suggest that formononetin and associated metabolites in red clover may act as chemical defences against adult S. lepidus and that distribution in forage legumes can be manipulated by plant breeding to improve root health.  相似文献

Rhizobium leguminosarum biovar trifolii strain TA1 nodulates a range of Trifolium plants including red, white and subterranean clovers. Nitrogen-fixing nodules are promptly initiated on the tap roots of these plants at the site of inoculation. In contrast to these associations, strain TA1 has a Nod- phenotype on a particular cultivar of subterranean clover called Woogenellup (A.H. Gibson, Aust J Agric Sci 19: (1968) 907–918) where it induces rare, poorly developed, slow-to-appear and ineffective lateral root nodules. By comparing the nodulation gene region of strain TA1 with that of another R. leguminosarum bv. trifolii strain ANU843, which is capable of efficiently nodulating cv. Woogenellup, we have shown that the nodT gene (B.P. Surin et al., Mol Microbiol 4: (1990) 245–252) is essential for nodulation on cv. Woogenellup. The nodT gene is naturally absent in strain TA1. A cosmid clone spanning the entire nodulation gene region of strain TA1 was capable of conferring nodulation ability to R.l. bv. trifolii strains deleted for nodulation genes, but only on cultivars of subterranean clovers nodulated by strain TA1. This shows that cultivar recognition events are, in part, determined by genes in the nodulation region of strain TA1. Complementation studies also indicated that strain TA1 contains negatively-acting genes located on the Sym plasmid and elsewhere, which specifically block nodulation of cv. Woogenellup.  相似文献

Phyto-oestrogens are believed to have a range of beneficial effects on predominant Western diseases. A few studies on phyto-oestrogens in milk exist and show that the composition can be affected by feeding. Therefore, the aim was to study how feeding of lucerne and grass/clover silages (GCSs) affects the concentration of phyto-oestrogens in bovine milk. Sixteen Danish Holstein cows were assigned to a 4 × 4 latin square design with four cows per treatment per period of 3 weeks. The four treatment diets were lucerne silage (LS), 2/3 lucerne silage and 1/3 maize silage (2/3LS), 1/3 lucerne silage and 2/3 maize silage (1/3LS) and GCS. Milk was collected at the end of each period and feed samples on day 6, 13 and 20 in each experimental period. Milk and pooled feed samples were analysed for the concentration of isoflavones, coumestans and lignans. The content of isoflavones was higher and the content of coumestrol lower in the GCS diet than in LS, 2/3LS and 1/3LS diets. For the LS, 2/3LS and 1/3LS diets, the concentration of coumestrol and secoisolariciresinol increased with the proportion of lucerne while the concentration of isoflavones was similar across the diets. The concentrations of the formononetin, daidzein and equol in the milk were significantly higher for the GCS diet than for the LS, 2/3LS and 1/3LS diets. In particular, the concentration of equol was 62-291 times higher for GCS. The concentration of coumestrol was significantly lower for the GCS diet compared to the LS, 2/3LS and 1/3LS diets. No pattern for the concentration of lignans was observed. In conclusion, a high concentration of isoflavones, particularly equol, and a low concentration of coumestrol were measured in the milk from the GCS diet. In contrast, a low concentration of isoflavones and a high concentration of coumestrol were measured in the milk from the LS, 2/3LS and 1/3LS diets. However, the concentration of phyto-oestrogens in bovine milk is low compared to food sources rich in phyto-oestrogens but the high concentration of equol could possibly be of therapeutic importance.  相似文献

Growth, photosynthesis and carbohydrate metabolism in plants of two grassland species, clover ( Trifolium subterraneum L. cv. Areces and Gaitan) and tall fescue ( Festuca arundinacea Schreb.), shifted from 25 to 12°C for 1 day or developed at 12°C were compared with controls kept at 25°C. Cold development produced a larger inhibition of growth in fescue than in clovers. In contrast, transferring plants from high to low temperature inhibited photosynthesis to a lesser extent in fescue than in clovers, this difference being associated with an increase in the activation state of Calvin cycle enzymes in fescue, but not in the clovers, a decreased cytosolic fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase (cFBPase, EC 3.1.3.11) activity in clovers, and an accumulation of hexose phosphates only in fescue. Development at 12°C partly relieved the inhibition of photosynthesis in clovers, in contrast with fescue, which correlated with increases in total ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase oxygenase (Rubisco, EC 4.1.1.39) activity only in clovers, and with greater increases in total stromal FBPase (sFBPase) activity in clovers than in fescue. The activity of sucrose synthesis enzymes was increased in the two clovers and fescue developed in the cold, while carbohydrate accumulation was much bigger in cold-developed fescue than in clovers because of a 5-fold increase in fructan contents in the former. The contents of phosphorylated intermediates increased in clovers but decreased in fescue grown at 12°C. Our results suggest that restricted ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate (RuBP) regeneration limited the recovery of photosynthetic capacity in cold-developed fescue.  相似文献

Subterranean clover (Trifolium subterraneum) is an important pasture legume, and Sardinia is known as a major centre of diversification of this species. As other legumes, this clover produces biologically active flavonoids including the subclass of isoflavones that are natural phytoestrogens with positive health effects. Present sources of isoflavones for medical/nutraceutical treatments are red clover (Trifolium pratense) and soybean (Glycine max). This study assessed the content and composition of flavonoids in 14 subterranean clover genotypes from Sardinia, grown ex‐situ in comparison with two red clover ecotypes, to acquire information on the potential of the species as an alternative source of isoflavones for possible exploitation. Twenty compounds were tentatively identified across the two clovers after HPLC and LC/ESI‐MS analyses, including clovamide, four flavonols, and 15 isoflavones. Most compounds were present as glucosides or glucosyl malonates. Subterranean clover extracts mainly comprised of derivatives of the isoflavones genistein, biochanin A, and formononetin. Compared to red clover, subterranean clover had higher content of total isoflavones and lower concentration of total flavonols. The isoflavone concentration in subterranean clover was higher than literature data for soybean or red clover. The existing genotypic variation warrants the possibility of selecting varieties with high isoflavone concentration for nutraceutical or pharmaceutical purposes.  相似文献

Sheep rearing on mountain pastures is an ancestral tradition in northwestern Slovenia. The indigenous Bovec sheep are widespread there and are well adapted to the rough Alpine rearing conditions. Every year, after weaning, the sheep start grazing in the lowlands (L) and then gradually move to mountain pastures, and finally, to the highland (H) pastures of the Alps. Grazing positively affects the fatty acid (FA) composition in sheep milk fat with increased availability of polyunsaturated FA (PUFA) in grass, and subsequently, in milk. Consequently, the objective of this work was to study the FA profile in sheep milk during grazing in four geographical areas in the Alps. A total of 15 ewes of the Bovec sheep breed were randomly selected and milk samples from these ewes were taken at four different pasture locations that differed with regard to altitude: the L pasture location at an altitude of 480 m, the mountain pastures (M1 and M2) at altitudes of 1100 to 1300 m and 1600 to 1900 m, respectively, and the H pastures at altitudes of 2100 to 2200 m. Milk samples from the ewes were taken during the grazing season from April to September. The chemical and FA composition of the milk samples from each pasture location were determined. There were significant differences in the concentrations of FA among the L, M1, M2 and H milk samples. We observed decreases of the concentrations of saturated FA (SFA) in milk from L to H pastures. The concentration of α-linolenic FA, monounsaturated FA (MUFA), PUFA and n-3 PUFA in milk were increased significantly with pasture altitude. The n-6/n-3 PUFA ratio was reduced by the change of pasture altitude with the lowest value at the M1 pasture (1.5). The concentrations of total SFA decreased significantly and was lowest at the L pasture. Our results underline the importance of the effect of grazing in the Alpine region associated with pasture altitude on the FA profile of sheep milk. The first variation in FA concentration in sheep milk occurred between L and M1, although it was more evident on H pastures in the Alpine mountains. Changes of the FA profile in sheep milk due to pasture altitude were related to variation in FA concentration in the pasture and the botanical composition of the pasture location.  相似文献

Indigenous serotype 1-01 of Rhizobium trifolii occupied significantly fewer nodules (6%) on plants of soil-grown noninoculated subterranean clover (Trifolium subterraneum L.) cv. Woogenellup than on cv. Mt. Barker (36%) sampled at the flowering stage of growth. Occupancy by indigenous serotype 2-01, was not significantly different on the two cultivars (16 and 26%). Serotype-specific, fluorescent-antibody conjugates were synthesized and used to enumerate the indigenous serotypes in host (clovers) and nonhost (annual rye-grass, Lolium multiflorum L.) rhizospheres and in nonplanted soil. The form and concentration of Ca2+ in the flocculating mixture and the presence of phosphate anions in the extracting solution were both critical for enumerating R. trifolii in Whobrey soil. The two serotypes were present in similar numbers in nonplanted soil (ca. 106 per g of soil) and each represented ca. 10% of the total R. trifolii population. Although host rhizospheres did not preferentially stimulate either serotype, the mean population densities of serotype 2-01 were significantly greater (P = 0.05) than those of serotype 1-01 in clover rhizospheres on 8 of 14 samplings made between the time of seeding and the appearance of nodules (day 12). In this experiment, and in contrast to our earlier findings, serotype 1-01 occupied significantly fewer (P ≤ 0.05) of the nodules (7 to 16%) on both cultivars than serotype 2-01 (51%) when sampled at 4 weeks. Differences between cultivars became apparent as the plants matured. There was a threefold increase (7 to 21%) in nodules occupied by serotype 1-01 on cv. Mt. Barker between 4 and 16 weeks. This was accompanied by increases in nodules coinhabited by both nonidentifiable occupants and either serotype 1-01 (0 to 20%) or 2-01 (11 to 51%). No increases in either of these parameters were observed on cv. Woogenellup.  相似文献

It is becoming increasingly apparent that dietary factors may play a role in the etiology of hormone dependent neoplasias. It has been hypothesized that estrogens play some role in the etiology of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in the canine. The presence of estrogen receptor binding activity in a fraction of canine urine purified by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) that did not correspond to estriol, estradiol, estrone or any of their primary metabolites was observed in the present study. We used thermospray-mass spectrometry and GC-MS to identify the phytoestrogens daidzein, equol, formononetin and genistein in HPLC purified fractions of urine obtained from male beagles. Using the same techniques we also confirmed the presence of daidzein and genistein in the commercial diet fed to these same dogs. Using the immature rat uterine cytosol estrogen receptor assay, relative binding affinities of 0.08, 1.1, less than 0.01 and 3.9% were obtained for daidzein, equol, formononetin and genistein, respectively when compared to estradiol (100%). In conclusion, phytoestrogens are present in urine of male beagles. Moreover, the commercial diet fed to these dogs contains isoflavones which can be converted to equol by intestinal microflora. These results suggest the need for investigations of phytoestrogens (e.g. equol) excreted into the urine daily and its relationship to the incidence and severity of BPH in the dog.  相似文献

Phytoestrogens have structures similar to endogenous steroids and may induce or inhibit the response of hormone receptors. The objectives of the present study were to compare the effects of long-term vs. short-term grassland management in organic and conventional dairy production systems, compare organic and conventional production systems and assess seasonal variation on phytoestrogen concentrations in bulk-tank milk. The concentrations of phytoestrogens were analyzed in bulk-tank milk sampled three times in two subsequent years from 28 dairy farms: Fourteen organic (ORG) dairy farms with either short-term or long-term grassland management were paired with 14 conventional (CON) farms with respect to grassland management. Grassland management varied in terms of time since establishment. Short-term grassland management (SG) was defined as establishment or reseeding every fourth year or more often, and long-term grassland management (LG) was defined as less frequent establishment or reseeding. The proportion of red clover (Trifolium pretense L.) in the herbage was positively correlated with milk concentrations of the mammalian isoflavone equol. Therefore, organically produced bulk-tank milk contained more equol than conventionally produced milk, and milk from ORG-SG farms had more equol than milk from ORG-LG farms. Milk produced during the indoor-feeding periods had more equol than milk produced during the outdoor feeding period, because pastures contained less red clover than fields intended for silage production. Organically produced milk had also higher concentrations of the mammalian lignan enterolactone, but in contrast to equol, concentrations increased in the outdoor-feeding periods compared to the indoor-feeding periods. There were no indications of fertility problems on ORG-SG farms who had the highest red clover proportions in the herbage. This study shows that production system, grassland management, and season affect milk concentrations of phytoestrogens. However, compared to soy products, milk concentrations of phytoestrogens are low and future studies are required to investigate if the intake of phytoestrogens from dairy products has physiological effects in humans.  相似文献

Magnetic sector field inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was applied to the reliable determination of the 8 essential trace elements cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), nickel (Ni), selenium (Se), and vanadium (V) as well as the 7 nonessential and toxic elements silver (Ag), aluminum (Al), arsenic (As), gold (Au), platinum (Pt), scandium (Sc), and titanum (Ti) in 27 transitory and mature human milk samples and in 4 selected infant formulas. This advanced instrumentation can separate spectral overlaps from the analyte signal hampering significantly the determination of many trace elements by conventional ICP-MS. Moreover, superior detection limits in the picogram per liter range can be obtained with such magnetic sector field instruments. Therefore, this is the first study to report the concentrations of the elements Ag, Au, Pt, Sc, Ti, and V in human milk and in infant formulas. Concentrations of Ag (median: 0.41 μg/L; range: <0.13–42 μg/L) and Au (median: 0.29 μg/L; range 0.10–2.06 μg/L) showed large variations in human milk that might be associated with dental fillings and jewelry. Pt concentrations were very low with most of the samples below the method detection limit of 0.01 μg/L. Human milk concentrations of Co (median: 0.19 μg/L), Fe (380 μg/L), Mn (6.3 μg/L), Ni (0.79 μg/L), and Se (17 μg/L) were at the low end of the corresponding reference ranges. Concentrations of Cr (24.3 μg/L) in human milk were five times higher than the high end of the reference range. For Al (67 μg/L), As (6.7 μg/L), and V (0.18 μg/L), most of the samples had concentrations well within the reference ranges. All elemental concentrations in infant formulas (except for Cr) were approximately one order of magnitude higher than in human milk.  相似文献

The relationship between numbers of rhizobia and nodulation response of legumes is of considerable practical importance. Experiments were done under controlled conditions to determine the influence of numbers of Rhizobium leguminosarum biovar. trifolii on nodulation of arrowleaf clover (Trifolium vesiculosum Savi.) and crimson clover (T. incarnatum L.). Numbers of rhizobia in excess of 1000 per seed did not substantially increase earliness of nodulation or total number of nodules formed on the taproot. Nodules, however, were formed nearer the top of the taproot as numbers of rhizobia increased to 100,000 per seed. Delayed inoculation experiments indicated that nodulation sites for these clovers only remained susceptible to infection for less than 1 day. Delaying inoculation for 4 days resulted in only a 1 to 2 day delay in nodulation for arrowleaf and crimson clovers respectively and no delay for subterranean clover (T. subterraneum L.). Apparently, larger seedlings nodulated faster.  相似文献

The goal of the experiment was to monitor the changes in the selenium concentration in goat milk during short-term oral supplementation of three different forms of selenium. The experiment involved 24 lactating goats of white shorthaired breed. Group C was the control; group S received selenium in the form of selenium-enriched yeast, group L in the form of lactate, and group B in the form of proteinate. Individual selenium preparations were administered individually orally in 250 μg Se dose per animal for 20 days. After the beginning of selenium supplementation, the selenium concentration in milk during the first 5 days grew gradually in group S. Between days 7 and 20 of Se supplementation, the mean Se concentrations in milk in groups were 12.53 ± 3.69 μg l−1 (C), 25.90 ± 6.30 μg l−1 (S), 13.14 ± 3.54 μg l−1 (L), 11.70 ± 3.69 μg l−1 (B). Differences between group S and other groups (C, B, L) were highly significant (p < 0.0001). Based on our results, selenium in the form of lactate and proteinate was excreted into the milk similarly, but selenium in the form of yeast, which contains high amount of selenomethionine, was excreted by milk in the highest amounts.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to determine Se, Zn, and Cu concentrations in blood plasma and milk of lactating women from central Poland who were in different stages of lactation and to investigate the relationship between the content of trace elements in mothers’ blood and concentrations of microelements in their milk. Se and Zn concentrations in blood plasma of mothers were the lowest and Cu was the highest on the first 4 d of lactation (colostrum, n=43) and were found to be 34.9±11.8 μg/L, 0.51±0.13 mg/L, and 1.70±0.55 mg/L, respectively. The highest plasma level of Se and Zn and the lowest content of Cu could be observed between d 10 and 30 of lactation (mature milk, n=41), and were found to be 54.3±14.6 μg/L for Se (p<0.001), 0.76±0.20 mg/L for Zn (p<0.001), and 1.03±0.30 mg/L (p<0.001) for Cu. The results of Se, Zn, and Cu determination in breast milk samples demonstrate a pattern of decline in their concentration with advancing stages of lactation. We found out that Se, Zn, and Cu concentrations were the highest in colostrum (n=43) and amounted to 24.8±10.1 μg/L, 8.2±2.8 mg/L, and 0.45±0.11 mg/L, respectively. The content of all determined microelements declined significantly during the time of lactation. Statistically significant linear correlation was found between concentrations of Zn in blood plasma and milk in the first stage of lactation. Weak but statistically significant linear correlations were also found between plasma Se content in plasma and in transitional and mature milk of breast-feeding women.  相似文献

Plasma luteinizing hormone (LH) concentrations were measured in normal (control) Corriedale X Merino (comeback) ewes and in clover-infertile comeback ewes which had grazed oestrogenic Yarloop clover (Trifolium subterraneum L. cv. Yarloop) for more than 4 years. Plasma LH concentrations were measured in samples taken at 20-min intervals for 6 h during the dioestrous stage of the oestrous cycle in the breeding season (BS) and during the anoestrous season (AS). In the control ewes during BS, transitory elevation in plasma LH concentration (pulses) occurred, reflecting secretory episodes, with a frequency of one per 5.2 h. This frequency fell to one per 16.5 h during the anoestrous season. In clover-infertile ewes, LH pulses occurred with a frequency of one per 4.5 h during BS and one per 4.9 h during AS (difference not significant). In the controls, plasma LH levels were higher (P less than 0.05) during BS (mean +/- s.d. = 1.2 +/- 0.4 ng/ml, n = 9) than in AS (0.7 +/- 0.3 ng/ml, n = 5). In the clover-infertile ewes, plasma LH levels in BS (1.3 +/- 0.6 ng/ml, n = 12) were similar to those of controls. During AS, plasma LH levels in the clover-infertile ewes (1.0 +/- 0.6 ng/ml, n = 10) remained similar to their BS levels, being significantly (P less than 0.05) higher than LH levels in the controls at this time. These studies indicate that the higher plasma concentrations of LH which have been reported in clover-infertile ewes arise from more frequent LH pulses. Furthermore, in contrast to normal ewes, average plasma LH, reflecting pulse frequency, is not reduced in AS. This supports the view that ingestion of phytooestrogens affects neural centres involved in regulating LH secretion.  相似文献

Human milk samples were analyzed by neutron activation analysis (NAA) for three essential trace elements (Cu, Se, and Zn). Mothers' milk samples were collected from 25 lactating mothers from the Central Hospital, Tripoli, Libya. The average concentration level of Cu, Se, and Zn declined from 0.84 +/- 0.06 mg/L, 104 +/- 9.46 microg/L, and 16.1 +/- 2.67 mg/L at d 0 to 0.39 +/- 0.045 mg/L, 41.8 +/- 6.66 microg/L, and 4.95 +/- 1.3 mg/L, respectively, at d 20 of lactation. Copper and Zn levels in the Libyan mothers' milk were in agreement with reported levels from other countries, whereas Se was at a higher level. The Cu daily intake level is slightly higher than the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) value. Selenium and Zn have higher intake levels than the RDA values but within the tolerable upper intake levels.  相似文献

Various phytoestrogens such as formononetin, daidzein, genistein and equol were synthesized. Their purity was assessed by various analytical techniques including melting point determination, thin-layer chromatography (TLC), infra-red spectra (i.r. spectra), nuclear magnetic resonance (1H- and 13C-NMR) and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The estrogenic activity of these compounds, as well as biochanin A and coumestrol, was biologically tested by the induction of vitellogenin secretion in yearling sturgeon and compared to the activity of estradiol-17 beta. Pure daidzein, biochanin A, genistein, equol and coumestrol all had estrogenic activity as assessed by their induction of hepatic synthesis of vitellogenin when administrated intraperitoneally to yearling Siberian sturgeon. Coumestrol seemed to be the most potent compound, inducing the most vitellogenin secretion with the lowest dose administered. Formononetin was inactive when administered by the intraperitoneal route. All the phytoestrogens tested were considerably less potent than estradiol-17 beta.  相似文献
