Stromanthe bahiensis Yoshida‐Arns, Mayo & J. M. A. Braga sp. nov. (Marantaceae) is described as an endemic to the Atlantic Forest coast of southern Bahia State in Brazil. It is similar to S. hjalmarssonii (Körn.) Petersen, which is restricted to Central America, but differs from it by the following characteristics: petiole 14–70 cm long, leaf blade oblong‐ovate to ovate‐lanceolate, fertile bracts 18–30×2–4 mm, narrowly lanceolate to ovate‐lanceolate, sepals 4–6 mm long, corolla lobes 3.0–3.5 mm long, outer staminodes 2.0–3.5×1–2 mm, pale bluish or purplish, callose staminode 2–3×1–2 mm, cucullate staminode 2–3 mm long and ovary hirsute. The new species is described and illustrated with diagnostic characters, taxonomic comments and remarks on its conservation status.  相似文献

Two new species of Gentianella (Gentianaceae, Gentianeae, Swertiinae), G. grantii and G. wayqecha, are described from Departamento Cusco, Peru. These two species differ from other Peruvian species of Gentianella in a combination of stems 10–100 cm long; no rosette of basal leaves; cauline leaves 10–75 mm long; flowers in thyrses; and corollas 14–26 mm long, campanulate, and adaxially glabrous. The leaves of G. grantii consist of an appressed pseudopetiole and a spreading, narrowly elliptic-oblong to linear blade; the corollas are lavender; and the corolla lobes are 0.6–0.7× as long as the tube. Gentianella grantii is similar to G. lythroides, of Bolivia, but differs in having more closely spaced leaves and less deeply lobed corollas. The leaves of G. wayqecha are sessile, lanceolate to ovate; the corollas are rose-violet; and the corolla lobes are 0.75–1.35× as long as the tube. Gentianella wayqecha is similar to G. rapunculoides, of Colombia and Ecuador, and G. ruizii, of Peru, but differs from both in its adaxially glabrous corollas and from G. rapunculoides in its less deeply lobed corollas. Both G. grantii and G. wayqecha grow in moist habitats near tree line, and are known only from a area northeast of the city of Cusco.  相似文献

A new species from evergreen montane forests of Thailand, Hoya somadeeae Rodda & Simonsson is here described and illustrated. The new species may be superficially confused with the Peninsular Malaysia endemic H. wrayi King & Gamble, but is clearly separated from it by the very elongated peduncles, up to 20 cm long, the revolute corollas, and outer processes of corona lobes with a membranaceous basal appendage. Morphological affinities between the new species and other Hoya species from Thailand and neighbouring Myanmar and Peninsular Malaysia are discussed.  相似文献

Herkogamy may act as a mechanism to reduce interference between the reproductive functions of female and male organs, but too great a distance between stigmas and anthers may also decrease the outcross pollen transfer and male and female fitness. Our goal was to quantify the effect of movement herkogamy in Kosteletzkya virginica on reproductive success and its contribution to pollen receipt and reproductive assurance. Field investigations and hand-pollination experiments were performed to test: (1) the relationship between herkogamy before curvature of un-pollinated lobes and reproductive success under pollinator exclusion; (2) the contribution of movement herkogamy to pollen receipt; and (3) the relationship between pollen load and seed set. We noted that variation in herkogamy before curvature of un-pollinated lobes did not affect the outcome of autogamous self-pollination measured by fruit set and mean number of seeds per fruit. Under natural conditions, 39% of pollen grains deposited per flower were from autogamous self-pollination via movement herkogamy resulting in contact between anthers and stigmas. The relationship between the amount of pollen grains and the number of seeds per capsule was highly significant. Flowers producing four or five seeds received more pollen grains than those producing only one seed. Our data provides experimental evidence that movement herkogamy, which decreases the separation between anthers and stigmas and results in delayed self-pollination, contributes to pollen receipt and further enhances seed set when pollinators are scarce or absent.  相似文献

Pentagonia lanciloba, a new species of Rubiaceae (Hippotideae) from the wet forests of northwestern Ecuador, is described. This new species is characterized by pinnatifid leaf blades with tapered and long-decurrent subsessile bases, floral bracts with long-acuminate to caudate apices, calyces with narrowly-lanceolate and remarkably long lobes (15–28 mm), and tomentose, orange to red corollas. The new species is illustrated, and its relationship to morphologically similar species is discussed.  相似文献

Floral longevity is assumed to reflect a balance between the benefit of increased pollination success and the cost of flower maintenance. Flowers of Kalmia latifolia (Ericaceae), mountain laurel, have a long duration and can remain viable up to 21 d if unpollinated. I experimentally tested whether this long duration increases pollination success by clipping stigmas to reduce functional floral longevity to 3-4 d. Clipping stigmas decreased fruit set from 65% to only 10%. Flowers with natural life spans were not pollination-limited, demonstrating that long floral duration ensured female reproductive success. The long floral duration of K. latifolia was unique in this site (the Great Swamp, Rhode Island, USA). Coflowering shrubs in summer had a mean floral life span of 3.4 d. Spring-flowering species had significantly longer mean floral durations (7.2 d). These duration differences may reflect seasonal variation in pollinator availability. However, K. latifolia flowers in summer, when its bumble bee pollinators are abundant but it is a poor competitor for bees because its flowers produce little nectar. The long floral duration allows K. latifolia to outlast coflowering competitors and attract sufficient pollinators. I hypothesize that the long floral duration of K. latifolia functions as a mechanism for competitive avoidance and reproductive assurance.  相似文献
