Three oligo-raker species (≤19 rakers on the first gill arch) of the genus Melamphaes have been considered. A new species, M. papavereus, out of the group “M. typhlops” has been described from the Bay of Bengal of the Indian Ocean. M. simus and M. hubbsi out of the group “M. simus” have been revised. M. simus inhabits all oceans between 40° N and 40° S. M. hubbsi has been known from single specimens caught in the central part of the South Atlantic between 11° and 19° S. 相似文献

The subsection Asperae of genus Hydrangea L. (Hydrangeaceae) has been investigated for three reasons: several ambiguous classifications concerning Hydrangea aspera have been published, unexpected differences in genome size among seven accessions have been reported Cerbah et al. (Theor
Appl Genet 103:45–51, 2001), and two atypical chromosome numbers (2n = 30 for Hydrangea involucrata and 2n = 34 for H. aspera) have been found when all other species of the genus present 2n = 36. Therefore, these two species and four subspecies of Hydrangea in all 29 accessions were analyzed for their genome size, chromosome number, and karyotype features. This investigation includes
flow cytometric measurements of nuclear DNA content and bases composition (GC%), fluorochrome banding for detection of GC-
and AT-rich DNA regions, and fluorescent in situ hybridisation (FISH) for chromosome mapping of 5 S and 18 S-5.8 S-26 S rDNA
genes. In the H. aspera complex, the genome size ranged from 2.98 (subsp. sargentiana) to 4.67 pg/2C (subsp. aspera), an exceptional intraspecific variation of 1.57-fold. The mean base composition was 40.5% GC. Our report establishes the
first karyotype for the species H. involucrata, and for the subspecies of H. aspera which indeed present different formulae, offering an element of discrimination. FISH and fluorochrome banding revealed the
important differentiation between these two species (H. involucrata and H. aspera) and among four subspecies of the H. aspera complex. Our results are in agreement with the Chinese classification that places the groups Kawakami and Villosa as two
different species: Hydrangea villosa Rehder and Hydrangea kawakami Hayata. This knowledge can contribute to effective germplasm management and horticultural use. 相似文献

Endophytic actinomycetes from Azadirachta indica A. Juss. were screened and evaluated for their anti-microbial activity against an array of pathogenic fungi and bacteria.
A total of 55 separate isolates were obtained from 20 plants, and 60% of these showed inhibitory activity against one or more
pathogenic fungi and bacteria. Actinomycetes were most commonly recovered from roots (54.5% of all isolates), followed by
stems (23.6%), and leaves (21.8%). The dominant genus was Streptomyces (49.09% of all isolates), while Streptosporangium (14.5%), Microbispora (10.9%), Streptoverticillium (5.5%), Sacchromonospora sp. (5.5%), and Nocardia (3.6%) were also recovered. Streptomyces isolates AzR 006, 011, and 031 (all from roots) had acute activity against Pseudomonas fluorescens, while AzR027, 032, and 051 (also all from roots) showed activity against Escherichia coli. Meanwhile, an isolate of Nocardia sp. from leaves (AzL025) showed antagonism against Bacillus subtilis. Overall, 32 of the 55 were found to have broad spectrum significant antimicrobial activity, while about 4% of them showed
strong and acute inhibition to pathogenic fungi and bacteria. Isolates of Streptomyces AzR031, 008, and 047, Nocardia sp. AzL025, and Streptosporangium sp. AzR 021 and 048 are of particular interest because they showed significant antagonistic activity against root pathogens,
including Pythium and Phytophthora sp. Thus, many of the isolates recovered from A. indica in this study may be used in developing potential bio-control agents against a range of pathogenic fungi and bacteria and
in the production of novel natural antimicrobial compounds. These results not only further our understanding of plant–microbe
interactions but also indicate that there is an untapped resource of endophytic microorganisms that could be exploited in
the biotechnological, medicinal, and agricultural industries. 相似文献

Camellia nitidissima C.W. Chi, honored as “the Queen of Camellia”, has attracted considerable attention as a rare and famous ornamental species characterized by yellow waxy petals. Its flowers and leaves have been used in Chinese folk herbal medicine to treat dysentery, hypertension, diarrhea, faucitis, hepatitis with jaundice, liver cirrhosis, sores, malignant tumors, and irregular menstruation. In recent years, a great number of phytochemical, pharmacological, and toxicity studies on C. nitidissima have been carried out, primarily in China. Phytochemical investigations have shown that the plant contains a rich source of bioactive constituents, including flavonoids, polysaccharides, saponins, volatile compounds, and other components such as mineral elements and amino acids. Both in vitro and in vivo pharmacological studies have demonstrated that C. nitidissima possesses anticancer, antioxidant, hypolipidemic, hypoglycemic, antiallergic, immunomodulatory, antibacterial, anxiolytic, and antidepressant properties. The present paper presents an up-to-date and comprehensive overview of the botany, processing, chemical constituents, pharmacological effects, and toxicity of C. nitidissima in order to provide scientific credence for this traditional medicine while exploring the potential of this plant for drug development. 相似文献

On a large collection of material, a revision of mesopelagic fish of the genus Poromitra (family Melamphaidae) belonging to the group of species P. cristiceps was performed. The most typical characteristic of this group is the structure of the praeoperculum, in which bony crests of the anterior margin are at an acute angle to each other and in the posterior angular part there is usually an unspined notch. In the paper, the validity of four species of this group that were previously considered synonyms of the cosmopolitan species P. crassiceps is restored. P. cristiceps inhabits the northern part of the Pacific Ocean (to the north of 25–30° N), P. nigrofulva and P. frontosa inhabit tropical waters of the eastern part of the Pacific Ocean, and P. nigriceps inhabits the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean, from Greenland to the Azorres. 相似文献

In the third part of the revision of the genus Melamphaes Melamphaidae (Melamphaidae), we examine multirakered species (20 and more rakers at the first gill arch) with seven soft
rays in the ventral fin that have a posttemporal (temporal) spine directed anteriorly-upwards, with 14–15 rays in the pectoral
fin, and 11 (rarely 12) trunk vertebrae. M. suborbitalis inhabits the Atlantic Ocean (in the north up to 57°N, in the south, up to 40°S), the Indian Ocean (is known in its southwestern
part), and the western part of the Pacific Ocean. There is no significant evidence on catches of this species in the eastern
part of the Pacific Ocean. Apparently, M. suborbitalis is absent in the tropical waters of the oceans. Until recently, M. parini was known from the holotype caught in the Sea of Okhotsk. Two specimens of this rare species: from the central (the area
of the Hawaiian Islands) and the northeastern part of the Pacific Ocean are reported. M. acanthomus is an endemic of the eastern part of the Pacific Ocean where it is known along the coasts of America from California to the
northern coast of Chile (approximately between 33°N and 21°S). 相似文献
