DSMB. 1. What role, what responsibilities?

In addition to the IRB (Institutional review board), the DSMB (data safety and monitoring board) takes an increasing role in the monitoring of clinical trials, especially in large multicenter trials. The DSMB is a an expert committee, independent from the investigators and the sponsor of the trial, which periodically examines the safety data accumulated during progress of the trial and ensures that the benefit/risk ratio remains acceptable for participating patients. The DSMB is also a safeguard for the scientific integrity of the trial. It is the only committee which can have access to unblinded data from the trial. The DSMB may recommend termination of the trial in three situations : (1) occurrence of unanticipated adverse events which may pose a serious risk for participating patients; (2) demonstration of efficacy before the planned accrual \; (3) and because of "futility" (the most difficult situation), i.e. in absence of a reasonable probability that the trial may reach a conclusion within its planned frame.     

Spore morphology of pteridophytes from China Ⅲ. Thelypteridaceae 1. Cyclosorus Link.

Spore morphology of 51 species of Cyclosorus in the Thelypteridaceae from China was investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The spores are monolete, bilaterosymmetric, ellipsoidal in polar view, and kidney-shaped in equatorial view. On the basis of the variation in their surface ornamentation, the spores fall into three main types. Type I: The surface of spores is echinate or perforate with fimbriate wings. 19 species belong to this type. Type Ⅱ: The surface of spores is cristate. 11 species belong to this type. Type Ⅲ: The surface of spores is echinulate. 10 species belong to this type. The remaining 11 species have spores with mixed surface ornamentation of the above three types, which are considered as intermediate types. The results are valuable for a better understanding of the taxonomy and palynology of the genus Cyclosorus.

Rossmania ukurunduensis gen. and sp. nov. collected in the reverve Bolshekhekhtsirsky (Khabarovsk Territory, Russian Far East) is described and illustrated.Rossmania aculeata comb. Nov. is indicated as the second species of the genus.

中国淡水鱼的寄生线虫1.

关于鱼类寄生线虫的研究,在国外已有很多人做过,尤其在苏联还有特设的专门机构,进行这方面的研究,其重要性于此可以想见。我国淡水鱼的种类有五百多种,多数都是有经济价值的食用鱼,但有关寄生线虫的研究,以前虽也有不少数学者做过一些,可是与其他国家比起来则显得非常贫乏了。
