The achiral hydrocarbon tetraphenylethylene crystallizes in enantiomorphous forms (chiral space group: P21) to afford right- and left-handed hemihedral crystals, which can be recognized by solid-state circular dichroism spectroscopic analysis. Chiral organic crystals of tetraphenylethylene mediated enantioselective addition of diisopropylzinc to pyrimidine-5-carbaldehyde to give, in conjunction with asymmetric autocatalysis with amplification of chirality, almost enantiomerically pure (S)- and (R)-5-pyrimidyl alkanols whose absolute configurations were controlled efficiently by the crystalline chirality of the tetraphenylethylene substrate. Tetrakis(p-chlorophenyl)ethylene and tetrakis(p-bromophenyl)ethylene also show chirality in the crystalline state, which can also act as a chiral substrate and induce enantioselectivity of diisopropylzinc addition to pyrimidine-5-carbaldehyde in asymmetric autocatalysis to give enantiomerically enriched 5-pyrimidyl alkanols with the absolute configuration correlated with that of the chiral crystals. Highly enantioselective synthesis has been achieved using chiral crystals composed of achiral hydrocarbons, tetraphenylethylenes, as chiral inducers. This chemical system enables significant amplification of the amount of chirality using spontaneously formed chiral crystals of achiral organic compounds as the seed for the chirality of asymmetric autocatalysis.  相似文献

The optical activity resulting from the complexation of (—)-sparteine by a series of Eu(III) β-diketone compounds has been studied by means of circularly polarized luminescence spectroscopy. It was found that the presence of at least one perfluoro group was necessary for the formation of an adduct complex. With Eu(III) complexes containing achiral β-diketone ligands, it was found that the observed chirality could be considered to result from a combination of vicinal and conformational effects. With Eu(III) complexes containing chiral β-diketone ligands, the optical activity was found to be dominated by confïgurational effects.  相似文献

Chiral pyrimidyl, quinolyl, and pyridyl alkanols act as asymmetric autocatalysts with significant amplification of enantiomeric excess (ee) in the enantioselective addition of diisopropylzinc to pyrimidine-5-, quinoline-3-, and pyridine-3-carbaldehydes, respectively. 2-Alkynyl-5-pyrimidyl alkanol with as low as 0.6% ee automultiplies during the consecutive asymmetric autocatalysis with increasing ee to as high as >99.5%. Asymmetric autocatalysis is applied to chiral discrimination of organic compounds. In the presence of methyl mandelate or 2-butanol with very low ee's (0.05-0.1%) as chiral initiators, the reaction between pyrimidine-5-carbaldehyde and diisopropylzinc affords pyrimidyl alkanol with higher ee's with the correlated absolute configurations to those of the chiral initiators. Chirality of amino acids (such as leucine) and helicenes with very low ee's are also discriminated by asymmetric autocatalysis, affording pyrimidyl alkanol with very high ee's. Asymmetric autocatalysis also discriminates the chirality of primary alcohols-alpha-d, monosubstituted [2.2]paracyclophanes and octahedral cobalt complex with achiral ligands of which the chirality is due to the topology of coordination of the achiral ligand. Even the chirality of inorganic crystals such as quartz and sodium chlorate is discriminated by asymmetric autocatalysis of pyrimidyl alkanol. Thus, asymmetric autocatalysis provides a unique method for the discrimination of chiral compounds and crystals.  相似文献

Sodium chlorate is an achiral molecule that crystallizes from water in the chiral space group P2(1)3. In the absence of chiral perturbations, a random distribution of (+) and (-) crystals is obtained. Kondepudi(2) has shown that constantly stirring an evaporating NaClO(3) solution gives mostly either (+) or (-) crystals. Repeating this experiment many times gives equal numbers of (+) and (-) sets of crystals. Herein we report that when evaporating aqueous NaClO(3) is subjected to beta particles from an Sr-90 source, an asymmetric distribution of (+) and (-) crystals favoring the (+) crystals is obtained. The beta particles are energetic polarized electrons that are approximately 80% of left-handed helicity. By a poorly understood mechanism, the spin polarized electrons produce chiral nucleating sites that favor formation of the (+)-NaClO(3) crystals. Exposure of the evaporating solution instead to energetic positrons from an Na-22 source yields mainly (-)-NaClO(3) crystals. Polarized positrons are of predominantly right-handed helicity. One may conclude that the chirality of the radiation is correlated with the chirality of the crystals being generated.  相似文献

Chiral nanostructures show macroscopic optical activity. Local optical activity and its handedness are not uniform in the nanostructure, and are spatially distributed depending on the shape of the nanostructure. In this study we fabricated curved chain nanostructures made of gold by connecting linearly two or more arc structures in a two‐dimensional plane. Spatial features of local optical activity in the chain structures were evaluated with near‐field circular dichroism (CD) imaging, and analyzed with the aid of classical electromagnetic simulation. The electromagnetic simulation predicted that local optical activity appears at inflection points where arc structures are connected. The handedness of the local optical activity was dependent on the handedness of the local chirality at the inflection point. Chiral chain structures have odd inflection points and the local optical activity distributed symmetrically with respect to structural centers. In contrast, achiral chain structures have even inflection points and showed antisymmetric distribution. In the near‐field CD images of fabricated chain nanostructures, the symmetric and antisymmetric distributions of local CD were observed for chiral and achiral chain structures, respectively, consistent with the simulated results. The handedness of the local optical activity was found to be determined by the handedness of the inflection point, for the fabricated chain structures having two or more inflection points. The local optical activity was thus governed primarily by the local chirality of the inflection points for the gold chain structures. The total effect of all the inflection points in the chain structure is considered to be a predominant factor that determines the macroscopic optical activity. The molecular basis of nonlinear optical (NLO) chiral effects in the amide I region of type I collagen was investigated using sum-frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy; chiral and achiral tensor elements were separated using different input/output beam polarization conditions. Spectra were obtained from native rat tail tendon (RTT) collagen and from cholesteric liquid crystal-like (LC) type I collagen films. Although RTT and LC collagen both possess long-range order, LC collagen lacks the complex hierarchical organization of RTT collagen. Their spectra were compared to assess the role of such organization in NLO chirality. No significant differences were observed between RTT and LC with respect to chiral or achiral spectra. These findings suggest that amide I NLO chiral effects in type I collagen assemblies arise predominantly from the chiral organization of amide chromophores within individual collagen molecules, rather than from supramolecular structures. The study suggests that sum-frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy may be uniquely valuable in exploring fundamental aspects of chiral nonlinearity in complex macromolecular structures.  相似文献

One‐handed helical polyphenylacetylenes having achiral amino alcohol moieties, but no chiral side groups, were synthesized by the helix‐sense‐selective copolymerization of an achiral phenylacetylene having an amino alcohol side group with a phenylacetylene having two hydroxyl groups. Since the resulting helical copolymers were successfully utilized as chiral ligands for the enantioselective alkylation of benzaldehyde with diethylzinc, we can conclude that the main‐chain chirality based on the one‐handed helical conformation is useful for the chiral catalysis of an asymmetric reaction for the first time. The enantioselectivities of the reaction were controlled by the optical purities of the helical polymer ligands. In addition, the polymer ligands could be easily recovered by precipitation after the reaction. Chirality 27:454–458, 2015. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

This article reports on a novel type of ternary chiral porous hybrid particles (TCPHPs) constructed by alkynylated cellulose nanocrystals (A-CNCs), helical substituted polyacetylene, and inorganic silica. The resulting TCPHPs combine the respective advantages of the three components. A-CNCs serve as stabilizer, co-monomer, and chiral source simultaneously and transfer their chirality to the resulting helical substituted polyacetylenes in the course of copolymerization with achiral acetylenic monomer following “sergeants and soldiers rule”. Helical substituted polyacetylenes form chiral helical structures and thus endow TCPHPs with the anticipated optical activity. Inorganic silica constitutes the rigid framework and is covalently bonded with the organic components through hydrolysis of Si-O-Et groups. Phase separation between the organic and inorganic components renders TCPHPs with abundant pores. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images confirm the formation of spherical particles with porous structures. Circular dichroism spectra demonstrate the optical activity of the chiral hybrid particles. The as-prepared TCPHPs exhibit capacity for enantio-differentiating performance towards chiral naproxen.  相似文献

New adduct crystals were obtained by simply mixing/grinding component crystals of bis-beta-naphthol (BN) derivatives with benzoquinone (BQ) under solvent-free conditions. Chiral recognition was found to operate during this process and either a racemic or a chiral crystal of a BN derivative produced an adduct crystal with BQ by solid-state crystallization. The chirality preference changed subtly according to the molecular structure of the BN derivative. Even in circumstances in which no adduct was formed, addition of a third component, such as crystals of naphthalene, to the grinding mixture yielded an adduct crystal. Remarkably, these adduct crystals were found to decompose spontaneously with time and revert to the starting crystal of the BN derivative by losing BQ molecules from the crystal lattice. Local melting of crystals by the grinding pressure was found unlikely to be the mechanism of adduct formation. Overall, these results demonstrate that molecules in the solid state could change their relative location and hydrogen bonding partners, thereby exerting chiral discrimination.  相似文献

The stereochemistry of tolperisone, a chiral aryl-alkyl basic ketone was investigated by means of circular dichroism (CD) and ultraviolet (UV) spectroscopy. The unusually high optical activity of tolperisone hydrochloride in the n-->pi* region is interpreted by the presence of a chiral conformer in solution. For stereochemical reasons, the C = O group and the aromatic moiety lack coplanarity by forming an inherently dissymetric chromophore, of M helicity. Similar helicity prevails in the crystal phase, according to the solid-state CD spectrum of (-)-tolperisone HCl salt. The chirality rule proposed by Snatzke for nonplanar benzoyl chromophores predicts the absolute configuration of (-)-tolperisone hydrochloride to be R, in agreement with other alpha-methyl-beta-amino-ketones.  相似文献

It is shown that natural chiral catalysts, which could be formed e.g., from optically active amino acids on basic natural minerals, could lead, at early stages of evolution, to the formation of rather complex optically active products from starting achiral compounds. Using biomimetic combinations of vanadium ion complexes and chiral ligands synthesized from widely occurring natural compounds, we created novel catalytic systems, permitting the transfer of optical activity in the course of catalytic chemical transformations of achiral compounds. We found that in the presence of natural clay, optically active terpenoids from the pinane series undergo multistage transformations, forming unexpected new products with preservation of optical purity.  相似文献

A statement has been formulated that chirality is an indispensable inherent property of all material objects, at one level of organization of matter or another. The translation of chirality from one level of material objects to another deserves our attention. The parity violation of weak interactions can be discussed in terms of the homochirality of the pool of fundamental particles, as it translates into optical activity of metal vapors. Individual photons and energy quanta are considered to be chiral entities, too, since they can be separated into beams of circularly polarized radiation. The chiral structure of the universe has been proposed and a method of determining the orientation of the axis of rotation of the universe suggested.  相似文献

Stabilization energies of the electron donor-acceptor sulfinimine···BF(3) complexes calculated at either the B3LYP/aug-cc-pVTZ or the MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ level do not allow to judge, whether the N- or O-atom in sulfinimine is stronger electron-donor to BF(3) . The problem seems to be solvable because chirality transfer phenomenon between chiral sulfinimine and achiral BF(3) is expected to be vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) active. Moreover, the bands associated with the achiral BF(3) molecule are predicted to be the most intense in the entire spectrum. However, the VCD band robustness analyses show that most of the chirality transfer modes of BF(3) are unreliable. Conversely, variation of VCD intensity with change of intermolecular distance, angle, and selected dihedrals between the complex partners shows that to establish the robustness of chirality transfer mode. It is also necessary to determine the influence of the potential energy surface (PES) shape on the VCD intensity. At the moment, there is still no universal criterion for the chirality transfer mode robustness and the conclusions formulated based on one system cannot be directly transferred even to a quite similar one. However, it is certain that more attention should be focused on relation of PES shape and the VCD mode robustness problem.  相似文献

Racemic natural products are rarely produced in plants and microorganisms and are thought to be the result of nonenzymatic, spontaneous reactions. These compounds are often highly complex with multiple contiguous chiral centers that present a challenge to organic synthesis. Formation of these racemates often occurs by cyclization reactions that can generate multiple stereocenters from achiral precursors. Biomimetic synthesis of these racemic natural products provides support for their proposed nonenzymatic spontaneous biosynthesis. These elegant syntheses also provide scalable and efficient routes to these complex natural products. Although the number of reported racemic natural products is relatively low, an isolated natural product that has a very small optical rotation has been shown to be a true racemate. Thus, the occurrence of racemic natural products could be more common than thought.  相似文献

Chiral molecules can either be handed (i.e., "shoes") or nonhanded ("potatoes"). The only chiral ligand partition for tetrahedral metal complexes (or for a tetrahedral carbon atom such as that found in amino acids and other chiral biological molecules) is the fully unsymmetrical degree 6 partition (1(4)), which leads to handed metal complexes of the type MABCD with a lowest-degree chirality polynomial consisting of the product of all six possible linear factors of the type (s(i)-s(j)) where 1 < or = i,j < or = 4. The lowest-degree chiral ligand partitions for octahedral metal complexes are the degree 6 partitions (31(3)) and (2(3)) leading to handed chiral metal complexes of the types fac-MA(3)BCD and cis-MA(2)B(2)C(2). The form of the lowest-degree chirality polynomial for the (31(3)) chiral ligand partition of the octahedron resembles that of the (1(4)) chiral ligand partition of the tetrahedron, likewise with four different ligands. However, the form of the lowest-degree chirality polynomial for the (2(3)) chiral ligand partition of the octahedron corresponds to the square of the chirality polynomial of the (1(3)) chiral ligand partition of the polarized triangle, which likewise has three different ligands. Ligand partitions for octahedral metal complexes such as (2(2)1(2)), (21(4)), and (1(6)), which are less symmetrical than the lowest-degree chiral ligand partitions (31(3)) and (2(3)), lead to chiral octahedral metal complexes which are nonhanded. In such complexes, pairs of enantiomers can be interconverted by simple ligand interchanges without ever going through an achiral intermediate.  相似文献

Polarized light that is reflected or transmitted through chiral specimens can be used to detect and identify biological and chemical materials including human tissue. The determination of the silent footprints of the chiral properties of the biological materials on scattered polarized light is the basis for these investigations. It is of primary importance to identify which combinations of the elements of the Mueller matrix for reflected or for transmitted light can be used to determine the optical activity of the biochemical materials. The optical activity of chiral materials is characterized by optical rotation and circular dichroism. The explicit analytical dependence of these specific elements of the Mueller matrix, upon the angles of incidence and scatter, upon the wavelength and upon the type of chirality has the potential to provide experimentalists with guidance in determining the optimum use of optical polarimetric scatterometers. Physical systems which exhibit distinguishable enantiomers under space inversion are not necessarily chiral. A new definition of chirality is proposed that enables true and false chirality to be distinguished. Although spatial enantiomorphism is sufficient to guarantee chirality in a stationary object, enantiomorphous systems are not necessarily chiral when motion is involved. Only a truly chiral influence can induce absolute asymmetric synthesis in a reaction mixture at thermodynamic equilibrium, but false chirality might suffice if equilibrium is not attained. Parity violation lifts only the degeneracy of enantiomers of truly chiral systems, the true enantiomers (i.e. strictly degenerate) being interconverted by space inversion together with charge conjugation. The time-independence of optical activity arising from parity violation is contrasted with the time-dependence of that arising from spontaneous parity breaking.  相似文献

The solid-state structure of LL/DD or LD/DL diphenylalanine diluted in KBr pellets is studied by infrared (IR) absorption and vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) spectroscopy. The structure depends on the absolute configuration of the residues. The natural LL diphenylalanine exists as a mixture of neutral and zwitterionic structures, depending on the humidity of the sample, while mostly the zwitterion is observed for LD diphenylalanine whatever the experimental conditions. The system undergoes spontaneous cyclization upon heating at 125°C, resulting to the formation of a diketopiperazine (DKP) dipeptide as the only product. The reaction is faster for LD than for LL diphenylalanine. As expected, LL and DD diphenylalanine react to form the LL and DD enantiomers of cyclo diphenylalanine. Interestingly, the DKP dipeptides formed from the LD or DL diphenylalanine show unexpected optical activity, with opposite VCD spectra for the products formed from the LD and DL reagents. This is explained in terms of chirality synchronization between the monomers within the crystal, which retain the symmetry of the reagent, resulting to the formation of a new chiral phase made from transiently chiral molecules.  相似文献

The transfer of chirality from a guest molecule to an achiral host is the subject of significant interest especially when, upon chiral induction, the chiroptical response of the host/guest complex can effectively report the absolute configuration (AC) of the guest. For more than a decade, dimeric metalloporphyrin hosts (tweezers) have been successfully applied as chirality probes for determination of the AC for a wide variety of chiral synthetic compounds and natural products. The objective of this study is to investigate the utility of a new class of melamine-bridged Zn-porphyrin tweezers as sensitive AC reporters. A combined approach based on an experimental CD analysis and a theoretical prediction of the prevailing interporphyrin helicity demonstrates that these tweezers display favorable properties for chiral recognition. Herein, we discuss the application of the melamine-bridged tweezer to the chiral recognition of a diverse set of chiral guests, such as 1,2-diamines, α-amino-esters and amides, secondary alcohols, and 1,2-amino-alcohols. The bulky periphery and the presence of a rigid porphyrin linkage lead, in some cases, to a more enhanced CD sensitivity than that reported earlier with other tweezers.  相似文献

A chiral phase HPLC method was developed for the simultaneous determination of the positional and optical isomers of the lipoxygenase-derived hydroxypolyenoic fatty acids. With a Bakerbond chiral phase HPLC column (dinitrobenzoyl phenylglycine as chiral phase) the positional and optical isomers of the reduced dioxygenation products (by triphenylphosphine or borohydride) of linoleic acid and arachidonic acid were separated after methylation of the carboxylic groups. No cumbersome chemical derivatization such as conversion to a diastereomer was necessary. As compared with the methods used up till now chiral phase HPLC proved to be simpler and more sensitive. About 10 pmol of hydroxy fatty acids suffice for an analysis. The chiral phase HPLC can be used for the preparative separation of the optical antipodes of the lipoxygenase products. An optical purity of more than 90% can be reached in one preparative run. The method was applied to the determination of the stereochemistry of the dioxygenation products of polyenoic fatty acids formed by the lipoxygenases from soybeans, reticulocytes, pea seeds (isoenzyme I and II), tomato fruits, by the quasilipoxygenase activity of hemoglobin, and by the methylene blue-mediated photooxidation of arachidonic acid.  相似文献
