The invertebrate collection of the Australian Museum revealed the existence of three new species of the genus Uromunna (family Munnidae) from New South Wales, Australia. Uromunna tenagoika sp. nov. from Batemans Bay has the head anterior margin concave, without simple setae; eyes with few ommatidia, eye lobes with both margins parallel, in male posterior margin directed forward; pereonite 7 as wide as pereonite 6, subequal to pleotelson width; pleotelson distal margin pointed, suburopodal shelf present; mandible palp absent; pereopod I propodus robust setae absent; pereopods relatively short; pleopod IV exopod distal tip with one pappose seta. Uromunna rhamnda sp. nov. from Batemans Bay has a head anterior margin concave, without simple setae; eye lobes with both margins parallel, in male posterior margin parallel to frontal margin; pleotelson distal margin pointed, suburopodal shelf absent; mandible palp present; pereopod I propodus robust setae absent; pleopod IV exopod distal tip with one pappose seta. Uromunna eora sp. nov. was found at Southern Creek, located north of Sydney and is the first species of the genus described from a fully freshwater environment with no marine water input. It has a relatively elongate body (length 3.4× width), anterior margin concave, eye lobes with both margins converging distally, in male posterior margin directed forward; pereonite 7 as wide as pereonite 6, wider than pleotelson width; pleotelson distal margin truncate, suburopodal shelf present; mandible palp present; pereopod I propodus robust setae present; pleopod IV exopod distal tip with two pappose setae. This work raises the number of Uromunna species found in Australia to a total of six.

The Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis is a non-native species that appeared in European waters more than 100 years ago. Size and sex structure as well as biological condition of populations of Eriocheir sinensis sampled annually between 1999–2014 from the eastern Baltic Sea coast (1999–2007 Gulf of Gdansk and 2008–2014 Vistula Lagoon, Poland) were analysed. Males were dominant over females, with a sex ratio of 1.6:1. Carapace width of all collected specimens (n?=?467) ranged from 33.3 to 89.1?mm and the mean values for specimens from Gulf of Gdansk and Vistula Lagoon were 62.4?±?8.1?mm (n?=?171) and 66.6?±?7.7?mm (n?=?296) respectively. There were no statistically significant differences in carapace width between males and females. It is important to note that there were no individuals with a carapace width less than 30?mm, which may indicate a lack of an established population of this species from the eastern Polish coast. The wet weight of all specimens ranged from 30.9 to 321.9?g and the mean values for all specimens from the Gulf of Gdansk and the Vistula Lagoon were 119.4?±?45.2?g (n?=?101) and 141.8?±?47.9?g (n?=?223), respectively. The wet weight of an individual was significantly correlated to carapace width and the exponent b reaching values close to 3 may indicate their good condition. 相似文献

The ultrastructure of the ovary during development and yolk production is poorly known in Brachyura and Majoidea in particular. Here, we describe the histology, histochemistry and ultrastructure of the adult ovarian cycle in four Mithracidae species from three different genera: Mithrax hispidus, Mithrax tortugae, Mithraculus forceps and Omalacantha bicornuta. All species showed a similar pattern of ovarian development and vitellogenesis. Macroscopically, we detected three stages of ovarian development: rudimentary (RUD), developing (DE) and mature (MAT); however, in histological and ultrastructural analyses, we identified four stages of development. The oocytes of the RUD stage, during endogenous vitellogenesis, have basophilic cytoplasm filled with dilated rough endoplasmic reticulum. The reticulum lumen showed many granular to electron-dense materials among the different stages of development. The Golgi complexes were only observed in the RUD stage and are responsible for releasing vesicles that merge to the endogenous or immature yolk vesicles. At the early DE stage, the oolemma showed many coated and endocytic vesicles at the cortex. The endocytic vesicles merge with the endogenous yolk to form the exogenous or mature yolk vesicles, always surrounded by a membrane, characterizing exogenous vitellogenesis. The exogenous yolk vesicles comprise glycoproteins, showing only neutral polysaccharides. At the late DE stage, endocytosis still occurs, but the amount of endogenous yolk decreases while the exogenous yolk increases. The late DE stage is characterized by the beginning of chorion production among the microvilli. The MAT stage is similar to the late DE, but the endogenous yolk is restricted to a few cytoplasmic areas, the ooplasma is filled with exogenous yolk, and the oolemma has very few coated vesicles. In the MAT stage, the chorion is fully formed and shows two electron-dense layers. The ovarian development of the species studied has many similarities with the very little known Majoidea in terms of the composition, arrangement and increment of the yolk vesicles during oocyte maturation. The main differences are in the vitellogenesis process, where immature yolk formation occurs without the direct participation of the mitochondria but with the participation of the rough endoplasmic reticulum in the endogenous phase. 相似文献

The first three zoeal stages of the portunid crab Macropipus
tuberculatus (Roux, 1830) are described and illustrated from
laboratory-reared material obtained from one ovigerous crab captured in the
western Mediterranean Sea. Zoeae of M.tuberculatus can
be distinguished from other known polybiinid species from the northeastern
Atlantic and Mediterranean waters by a combination of meristic and
morphometric features, especially by the number of setae in the outer lobe
of the maxilla endopod. Larval morphology presents additional evidence
supporting the split of the genus Macropipus into the
genera Liocarcinus and Macropipus sensu
stricto based on adult characters.

Morphology and function of the male reproductive tract, female spermatheca and patterns of sperm storage were assessed in the crab Libinia spinosa using histological methods. Testes are characterized by the presence of peripheral spermatogonia and different sequences of sperm maturity. Spermatophores begin to be packed in the last portion. The vas deferens consists of three sections: anterior, with undeveloped spermatophores and free sperm; median, with well-developed spermatophores; and posterior with granular secretions. Female spermathecae are of the ventral type, with a velum separating dorsal and ventral chambers. Live individuals were kept in the laboratory and arranged in pairs. An experiment was conducted toward the end of the reproductive season, in which males with the right gonopod excised were placed with receptive females. After mating, females were killed and the spermathecae dissected for histological study and observation of the pattern of sperm storage. Spermatozoa were found forming discrete sperm packages. New ejaculates can fill the entire spermatheca or be restricted to the ventral chamber; sperm are rounded, with a distinguishable acrosomal core. Old ejaculates are restricted to the dorsal chamber and are of irregular shape and larger size; an acrosomal core was not distinguishable. The secretions produced by the glandular epithelium of the dorsal chamber of the spermathecae are likely to have a role in the removal of dead sperm. 相似文献

Summary The first zoeal stages of eleven species of Sesarmidae from the Indo-West Pacific were obtained from ovigerous females. Those of Labuanium scandens, L. rotundatum, L. trapezoideum, L. politum, Metasesarma aubryi, Pseudosesarma crassimanum, Stelgistra stormi, and Sesarmops impressum, are described for the first time, while the first zoeal stages of Clistocoeloma merguiense, Metasesarma obesum and Sesarmops intermedium are re-described. Larval characters of all these species are compared with previously described ones for the family and morphological features are re-evaluated. Minute spines on the telson of the zoeae are described as a new larval character in Sesarmidae and their presence or absence in other grapsoid groups is discussed. The results demonstrate that a recurrent combination of reliable larval characters distinguishes zoeae and megalopae of the examined sesarmids from the rest of the Grapsoidea. This appears to be consistent with recent studies that redefine the Sesarmidae. 相似文献

Summary Monthly samples of the shore crab Pachygrapsus transversus from two distinct annual periods showed that ovigerous females are present throughout the year in the population. However, the relative ovigerous abundance of specimens among sexually mature changes from less than 10% during the winter months to almost 80% in summer. Linear correlations for each year revealed that both temperature and photoperiod were positively associated with relative abundance of ovigerous females. Multiple regression analyses suggested that photoperiod was the main factor affecting breeding in this species. Timing of observed reproductive pattern may enhance larval survival because of particular oceanographic conditions in the study region and favor early juvenile development due to certain species-specific growth features. 相似文献

Comparative ultrastructure of majoid spermatozoa belonging to 23 species, in 19 genera and five families, is considered, with new data on Schizophrys aspera; S. rufescens (Majidae, Majinae); Camposcia retusa (Inachidae); Pyromaia tuberculata (Inachoididae); and Huenia heraldica and Menaethius monoceros (Epialtidae, Epialtinae). The oregoniid Chionoecetes opilio, and inachids Cyrtomaia furici, Platymaia rebierei, Macropodia longirostris and Inachus phalangium, possibly with Camposcia retusa, but not Podochela riisei, appear to form a group. Within the inachids, Macropodia and Inachus are especially close. A domed central acrosome zone, seen in most inachid sperm, in majines (both Schizophrys species), in pisines (Oxypleurodon orbiculatus and O. stuckiae) and epialtines (Huenia heraldica and Menaethius monoceros), appears to be an autapomorphy of these majoids. A peripheral acrosome zone is seen in the inachid Grypacheus hyalinus, two inachoidids (P. tuberculata and Stenorhynchus seticornis) and the majid Maja squinado. Pyromaia tuberculata differs from other inachoidids in having a slightly dome‐shaped operculum. The mithracine Macrocoeloma trispinosum (Majidae) sperm more closely resembles Inachoididae, than Inachidae. Spermatologically, the family Majidae and the subfamily Majinae are not homogeneous. Spermatozoal ultrastructure does not support a majoid–hymenosomatid relationship and is equivocal with regard to the placement of Cryptochiridae in either the Thoracotremata or Heterotremata, the prominent operculum strongly differentiates cryptochirids from Majoidea. 相似文献

Molecular systematics of the Asian mitten crabs,genus Eriocheir (Crustacea: Brachyura) 总被引:19,自引:0,他引:19
To help resolve phylogenetic relationships among the mitten crabs, complete sequences of the nuclear DNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and portions of the mitochondrial genome corresponding to the cytochrome oxidase I (COI), were sequenced for all Asian mitten crabs of the genus Eriocheir and seven species of the Grapsoidea. The resulting phylogeny supports the establishment of a separate genus Neoeriocheir, but does not provide justification for the recognition of Platyeriocheir. A female mitten crab specimen from the Zhujiang River, China, was considered to be Eriocheir recta (), a species previously synonymized with Eriocheir japonica (de Haan, 1835). In the ITS analysis, a sequence from Eriocheir formosa (from Taiwan) falls within a well-supported E. recta group, which indicates that E. formosa may have to be synonymized with E. recta. Three previously recognized members of the genus, E. japonica, Eriocheir sinensis, and Eriocheir hepuensis constitute a monophyletic sister group to E. recta in all phylogenetic trees. We provide evidence for the conspecific status of these taxa. Phylogenetic trees based on COI and combined COI and ITS sequences indicate that E. japonica consists of three subgroups. Since the name E. japonica (de Haan, 1835) takes precedence over E. sinensis (H. Milne Edwards, 1853) and E. hepuensis, we suggest that these three subgroups correspond to three subspecies of E. japonica: E. j. japonica, E. j. sinensis, and E. j. hepuensis. 相似文献

The genus Portunus encompasses a comparatively large number of species distributed worldwide in temperate to tropical waters. Although much has been reported about the biology of selected species, taxonomic identification of several species is problematic on the basis of strictly adult morphology. Relationships among species of the genus are also poorly understood, and systematic review of the group is long overdue. Prior to the present study, there had been no comprehensive attempt to resolve taxonomic questions or determine evolutionary relationships within this genus on the basis of molecular genetics. Phylogenetic relationships among 14 putative species of Portunus from the Gulf of Mexico and other waters of the western Atlantic were examined using 16S sequences of the rRNA gene. The resultant molecularly based phylogeny disagrees in several respects with current morphologically based classification of Portunus from this geographical region. Of the 14 species generally recognized, only 12 appear to be valid. We recommend that P. vossi be hereafter regarded as a junior synonym of P. spinimanus and that P. bahamensis be regarded as a junior synonym of P. depressifrons . Our analysis suggests that western Atlantic members of the genus can be subdivided into at least three well-defined clades. Summary Horizontal planktonic catches made in the Gulf of Tigullio (Genoa, Ligurian Sea) have been analyzed with the aim of identifying the zoeae of Brachyura, whose knowledge is poor in all the northern Mediterranean Sea. Forty-four taxa (42 species plus Liocarcinus spp. and Brachynotus spp.) have been identified, 12 of which were present with all the larval stages. The seasonal distribution of the taxa has been analyzed, and it was possible to recognize species present throughout the year as well as spring/summer, summer/autumn, and winter/summer species. We describe the morphology of the foregut of the spider crab Maja brachydactyla Balss, 1922, from first larval stage to adult, with detailed stage‐specific documentation using light and scanning electron microscopy. A total of 40 ossicles have been identified in the foregut of adults of M. brachydactyla using Alizarin‐Red staining. The morphological pattern of the ossicles and gastric mill is very similar to other Majoidea species with only a few variations. The foregut of the zoeae stages appeared as a small and simple cavity, with a cardio‐pyloric valve that separates the stomach into cardiac and pyloric regions. The pyloric filter is present from the first zoea, in contrast to the brachyuran species which have an extended larval development. Calcified structures have been identified in the cardio‐pyloric valve and pyloric region of the zoeal stages. The most significant changes in foregut morphology take place after the metamorphosis from ZII to megalopa, including the occurrence of the gastric mill. In the megalopa stage, the foregut ossicles are recognizable by their organization and general morphology, but are different from the adult phase in shape and number. Moreover, the gastric teeth show important differences: the cusps of the lateral teeth are sharp (no molariform); the dorsal tooth have a small, dentate cusp (not a well‐developed quadrangular cusp); and the accessory teeth are composed of one sharp peak (instead of four sharp peaks). The gastric mill ontogeny from megalopa to adult reveals intermediate morphologies during the earlier juvenile stages. The relationship between gastric mill structures with food preferences and their contribution to the brachyuran phylogeny are briefly discussed. J. Comparative larval morphology was used to elucidate phylogenetic relationships within the Pinnotheridae and the Dissodactylus species complex. Within the family, seven zoeal and six megalopal characters suggested two equally parsimonious phylogenetic hypotheses for pinnotherid larvae, both with Ostracotheres tridacnae representing the sister group for the Dissodactylus complex. Results indicated that the genus Pinnotheres is a polyphyletic taxon, and that the traditional subfamilial arrangement comprises paraphyletic taxa within the subfamilies Pinnotherinae and Pinnothereliinae. Certain evidence has suggested that Fabia and Juxtafubia should be excluded from the Pinnotherinae and placed into the Pinnothereliinae. Larval and adult morphology suggested that Pinnotheres politus should be included within Tumidotheres. The phylogenetic analysis within the Dissodactylus complex involved one zoeal and 16 megalopal characters. Results suggested a single phylogenetic hypothesis based on larval morphology. Combining adult morphology with larval evidence resulted in two equally parsimonious phylogenetic hypotheses, one of which agreed with a previously suggested hypothesis based only on adult characters. 相似文献
