New records of pontarachnid mites (Acari: Hydrachnidia) from the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico are presented. Litarachna lopezae sp. n., from substrata collected from Bajo de Sico, a mesophotic coral reef ecosystem in Mona Passage off Puerto Rico, is described as new to science. The new species was collected from nearly 70 m depth, the greatest depth from which pontarachnid mites have been found until now. In addition, a Litarachna sp. was also found in association with the tube of the polychaete Sabellastarte magnifica (Shaw, 1800) at the shallow waters of north Puerto Rico.  相似文献

Type material of Lithothamnion flavescens Kjellman, originally described from Karlsøy (Troms) and Karmakul Bay (Novaya Zemlya), is re-examined and a lectotype is selected. Type specimens and other collections from NW Spitsbergen and North Norway possess distinctive characters of the genus Leptophytum, including the development of flattened epithallial cells, short subepithallial cells, and simple spermatangial structures. Leptophytum flavescens (Kjellman) comb. nov. resembles the generitype Leptophytum laeve, differing in having: (1) a thicker perithallium, to 900?µm (vs. 350?µm in L. laeve), that embeds older conceptacles, and (2) non-differentiated (in size or shape) pore cells of multiporate roofs. An epitype for L. laeve is also selected, which consolidates the status of this species and the genus, in agreement with the current literature and all publications prior to 1996.  相似文献

Adult rabbitfishes (Siganidae) differ from most other herbivorous coral reef fishes by forming stable pair bonds throughout their adult lives. However, little is known about the early life stages of rabbitfishes, and no quantitative evidence regarding the ontogeny of pairing behaviour exists to date. This study describes the abundance, distribution and ontogeny of social associations in juvenile rabbitfishes on the mid-shelf reefs around Lizard Island, Great Barrier Reef, Australia. Using underwater visual censuses, we surveyed an area of 5728?m2 across three distinct habitat types, revealing that the abundance of juveniles varies significantly among species, size class and exposure level. Furthermore, we demonstrate a pronounced ontogenetic shift in the social associations of juveniles of Siganus doliatus and Siganus corallinus, changing from primarily solitary individuals in the smallest size class (<50?mm) to predominantly paired individuals in the larger size classes (50–100?mm and 100–150?mm). In this context, we report the presence of several mixed-species pairs of rabbitfishes, providing the first evidence for this behaviour within the family. This supports previous research, which posits that there are strong ecological drivers, rather than a solely reproductive basis, for pairing behaviour in rabbitfishes. Based on our results, we suggest that further exploration of the ecology of early life stages of herbivorous reef fishes will increase our knowledge about ecological processes on coral reefs.  相似文献

Two new species of the oribatid mite family Suctobelbidae (Acari, Oribatida) are described from southern Chile. Niosuctobelba sphagnicola Ermilov, sp. n. differs from N. ruga Chinone, 2003 in the rostrum with a median incision and one pair of lateral teeth, the heads of bothridial setae rounded distally, the tectopedial fields not fused anteriorly, the notogastral setae barbed, and the body without striate ornamentation. Zeasuctobelba tierradelfuegoensis Ermilov, sp. n. differs from Z. trinodosa Hammer 1966 in a shorter body, the heads of the bothridial setae with thin apices, the tectopedial fields not fused anteriorly, and the notogastral humeral tubercles with longer cristae. An identification key to the known species of Zeasuctobelba is given. The genus Niosuctobelba is recorded for the Neotropical Region for the first time, while Zeasuctobelba is new to the fauna of Chile.  相似文献

New records of water mites (Acari: Hydrachnidia) from streams in South Korea are presented. Two species are described as new to science: Torrenticola neodentifera sp. n. (Torrenticolidae) and Atractides ermilovi sp. n. (Hygrobatidae). Five species are reported as first records for Korea: Wandesia (Wandesia) reducta Tuzovskij, 1987, Wandesia (Wandesia) cf. rara Tuzovskij, 1990, Sperchon (Sperchon) orientalis Tuzovskij, 1990, Feltria (Feltria) kuluensis Tuzovskij, 1988 and Atractides (Atractides) constrictus (Sokolow, 1934). The latter species is redescribed and elevated to species rank based on new material from the Russian Far East.  相似文献

A new genus Pseudoeupodes Khaustov, gen. n. and new species Pseudoeupodes porosus sp. n. are described from moss in Crimea. The taxonomy of the Eupodidae and some other families and genera of Eupodoidea is reviewed. The genus Turanopenthalodes Barilo, 1988 is transferred from Penthalodidae to Penthaleidae. The family Cocceupodidae Jesionowska, 2010 and the genus Filieupodes Jesionowska, 2010 are considered as junior synonyms of Eupodidae Koch, 1842 and Cocceupodes Thor, 1934, respectively. A key to genera of the family Eupodidae is provided.  相似文献

We developed and characterized 13 microsatellite markers from the water mite Hygrobates fluviatilis. The genotypes of 32 diploid females were assessed, and all of the loci were polymorphic. The number of alleles per locus ranged from two to 21, and the observed heterozygosity ranged from 0.063 to 0.813. These microsatellite markers are the first published for water mites and will contribute to research on the population structure of this widespread species.  相似文献

Examination of the water mite collection made by the authors in the territory of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) in 2006 has revealed 43 mite species of the phalanx Hydrachnidia, belonging to 19 genera and 12 families, 1 species of the phalanx Trombidia, and 2 freshwater species of the superfamily Halacaroidea, belonging to 2 genera and 1 family. All the species registered, except for two species of the phalanx Hydrachnidia (Mixobates processifer and Lebertia porosa), were recorded in the Sakha Republic for the first time. The species Aturus miyashitai Uchida, 1934 and A. parapilosus Kim et Chung, 1993 (Hydrachnidia) and the family Johnstonianidae Thor, 1935 (Trombidia) are new for the Russian fauna. The female of A. parapilosus is described for the first time.  相似文献

The genus Lepotrema Ozaki, 1932 is revived and redefined. Its main diagnostic characters are the dorsal excretory pore, the muscular development of the distal metraterm and the trilobate ovary. It is considered to contain five species, to which a key is given. Lepotrema clavatum Ozaki, 1932 is briefly redescribed from Amanses scopas and Sufflamen chrysopterus, and L. canthescheni n. sp. is described from Cantheschenia grandisquamis, based on material from the southern Great Barrier Reef. L. canthescheni is distinguished by its vitelline and uterine distribution. The other three recognised species are: L. adlardi (Bray, Cribb & Barker, 1993) n. comb., L. incisum (Hanson, 1955) n. comb. and L. xanthichthydis (Yamaguti, 1970) n. comb., all three having originally been placed in Lepocreadium.  相似文献

Comerinia chuetolamina gen. & sp. nov. was collected from a cargo of dried Daphnia imported to Britain from Mexico. Females can be distinguished from all others described in the family Acaridae in that setae 14, 15 and d5 are flattened dorsoventrally over most of the basal half. This region appears blade-like, bearing numerous strong pectinations along the ventral side. Males may be recognized by a series of characters, some of which reflect a close relationship with Forcellinia Ouds., 1924 and others with Tyrophagus Ouds., 1924. The position of the new genus in a commonly used key to adults of the family Acaridae is indicated.  相似文献

Gillbeea whypallana sp. nov. is described from the Wet Tropics of North Queensland. This species differs from G. adenopetala in the larger serrate asymmetrical stipules, hirsute leaves and fruits and the number of lateral veindleaflet. Gillbeea adenopetala and G. whypallana both differ from G. papuana in having hairs on the lateral margins of the petals, and in having more than two ovules per carpel. The comparative morphology of the three Gillbeea species is described and illustrated, and the phylogenetic placement of the genus within the Cunoniaceae is discussed briefly.  相似文献

Abstract  Pachydellus hades (Halliday) (Acari: Pachylaelapidae) was described from Jenolan Caves, NSW, Australia, and was thought to be an Australian endemic species. It is now known that this species is abundant in Slovakia and other parts of Europe, but its presence there was not recognised because it had been misidentified as other species. It appears likely that this species was introduced from Europe into Australia through human activities. The Australian type locality of this species gives a misleading impression of its native range.  相似文献
