New diterpenes from Sideritis candicans

The three new diterpenes candol-A (ent-16-kauren-7α-ol, I), candol-B (ent-16-kauren-18-ol, III) and epicandicandiol 7β-monoacetate (ent-7α-acetoxy-16-kauren-18-ol, V) as well as epicandicandiol (VII) have been isolated from Sideritis candicans.     

New diterpenes from Sideritis sicula

Two new diterpenes have been isolated from Sideritis sicula: sideripol, ent-18-acetoxy-7α-hydroxykaur-15-ene and epoxysideritriol, ent-15β,16β-epoxykauran-7α,17,18-triol. The previously known diterpene eubol, ent-7α-acetoxykaur-16-en-15β,18 diol has also been obtained from the same source.     

Four new diterpenes from Sideritis serrata

Four new diterpenes have been isolated from Sideritis serata: lagascol (4, ent-8,5-friedopimar-5-ene-15S,16-diol), tobarrol (8, ent-15-beyerene-12α,17-diol), benuol (12, ent-15-beyerene-7α,17-diol) and serradiol (18, ent-16R-atis-13-ene-16,17-diol). The previously known diterpenes lagascatriol (1, ent-8,5-friedopimar-5-ene-11β,15S,16-triol), jativatriol (2, ent-15-beyerene-1β,12α,17-triol), conchitriol (3, ent-15-beyerene-7α,12α,17-triol) and sideritol (17, ent-16R-atis-13-ene-1β,16,17-triol) have also been obtained from the same source.     

New neutral diterpenes from southern pine tall oil

Five new diterpene natural products isolated from southern pine (Pinus spp.) tall oil were characterized as 8(14),15-pimaradiene-3β,18-diol, 19-hydroxy-15,16-dinorlabd-8(17)-en-13-one, 8,13β-epoxy-14-labden-6α-ol, 8,11, 13-abietatriene-15,18-diol and 9,10-secoabieta-8,11,13-trien-18,10-olide.     

Kolavane and kaurane diterpenes from the stem bark of Xylopia aethiopica

The stem bark of Xylopia aethiopica has yielded four diterpenes, two of them novel. Three of the diterpenes were identified as (?)-kaur-16-en-19-oic acid and its 7-oxo and 7β-hydroxy derivatives. The fourth was the novel kolavane derivative 2-oxo-kolav-3,13-dien-15-oic acid, a type of compound not previously recorded in the Annonaceae.     

Two new triterpenoids from Rhodomyrtus tomentosa

Repetition of an investigation of the petrol extracts of Rhodomyrtus tomentosa has led to the isolation of two new triterpenoids, R₄ from the leaves and R₅ from the stems besides R₁, R₂, R₃ and the other known compounds already reported. R₁ and R₄ were proved to be 21α$\text{H}$-hop-22(29)en-3β,30-diol and 3β-hydroxy-21α$\text{H}$-hop-22(29)-en-30-al respectively, and R₂, R₃ and R₅ are 3β-acetoxy-11α,12α-epoxyoleanan-28,13β-olide, 3β-acetoxy-12α-hydroxyoleanan-28, 13β-olide and 3β-acetoxy-12-oxo-oleanan-28,13β- olide respectively. The ethanol extract of the leaves contained betulinic, ursolic and aliphitolic acids and that of the stems betulonic, betulinic and oleanolic acids.     

Diterpenes from Ballota species

Hispanolone was isolated from Ballota andreuzziana; B. pseudodictamnus contains ballonigrin, 18-hydroxyballonigrin, marrubenol, and the flavone 7, 4′-di-O-methylapigenin.     

Triterpenoids from Mallotus repandus: Three new δ-lactones

The leaves of Mallotus repandus contain friedelin, 3β-hydroxy-13α-ursan-28,12β-olide (1), its benzoate (2) and ursolic acid. The stems contain friedelin, lupeol, α-amyrin, 2 and 3α-hydroxy-13α-ursan-28, 12β-olide (3), 21α-hop-22(29)-ene-3β,30-diol and ursolic acid. 1–3 are new compounds.     

Cleonioic acid,a new diterpenoid from Cleonia lusitanica

From the aerial parts of Cleonia lusitanica four previously known diterpenoids have been isolated. In addition, a new isopimarane derivative, cleonioic acid, has been obtained and the structure 11α-acetoxy-7,15-iso-pimaradien-18-oic acid established by chemical and spectroscopic means and by correlation with 7,15-isopimaradien-18-ol.     

Diterpenoid quinones of Salvia lanata

Two diterpenoid quinones, 20-hydroxy-7α-acetoxyroyleanone and royleanone, have been isolated from the whole plant (aerial parts and roots) of Salvia lanata.     

Four new labdane diterpene oxides from Sideritis gomerae

Four new labdane diterpene oxides gomeraidehyde, 13-epigomeraldehyde, gomeric acid and 13-epigomeric acid as well as eperu-13-ene-8β,15-diol were isolated from the aerial part of Sideritis gomerae.     

New diterpenes from Chamaecyparis pisifera

Three new diterpenes, pisiferin, 15-hydroxyferruginol, and O-methyl pisiferic acid have been isolated and the presence of 12-hydroxyabieta-8,11,13-trien-20-al has been confirmed in studies of the leaves of Chamaecyparis pisifera. The structure of pisiferin, a phenolic diterpene with a new carbon skeleton, has been determined by chemical degradation. The presence of diterpenes of the ferruginol type in the leaves of four varieties of C. pisifera has been examined.     

Teucrins H1-H4, novel clerodane-type diterpenes from Teucrium hyrcanicum

The structure and stereochemistry of teucrins H1, H2, H3 and H4, four novel diterpenes from Teucrium hyrcanicum have been established by detailed studies of the PMR and ¹³C NMR spectra, CD results and chemical transformations. Teucrin H4, a minor constituent is shown to possess a unique stereochemistry hitherto not reported for related diterpenoids.     

Methoxylation of methyl 3α,7α-dihydroxychol-4-en-24-oate and its 3β-epimer. —a contribution to chenodeoxycholic acid biogenesis

By the conventional methods of gas liquid chromatography (GLC) as well as mass spectrometry, 3β,7α-dihydroxychol-5-en-24-oic acid (Δ⁵-acid), a key intermediate of chenodeoxycholic acid biogenesis and its metabolic by-product, 3α,7α-dihydroxychol-4-en-24-oic acid (Δ⁴-acid) have not yet been identified as such probably due to thermal decomposition. However, taking advantage of the observation that they are readily methoxylated in methanoi containing a trace of acids, their individual methoxy-compounds were easily prepared and proved to be useful for their identification, even though they are present in minimal amounts as was the case with the human or hen bile. The present paper reported physical as well as spectral properties of the methoxy-compounds derived from methyl 3α,7α-dihydroxychol-4-en-24-oate, compared with those of its 3β-epimer

Aromatic monoterpenes from Lavandula gibsonii

Three aromatic monoterpenes, not reported previously as natural products, together with ursolic acid, were isolated from Lavandula gibsonii. They were characterized as 3-hydroxy-α,α,4-trimethyl benzyl alcohol, 3-hydroxy- α,α,4-trimethyl benzyl methyl ether and 3-hydroxy-α,4-dimethyl styrene.
