In an effort to create a paintable/printable thermoelectric material, comprised exclusively of organic components, polyaniline (PANi), graphene, and double‐walled nanotube (DWNT) are alternately deposited from aqueous solutions using the layer‐by‐layer assembly technique. Graphene and DWNT are stabilized with an intrinsically conductive polymer, poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS). An 80 quadlayer thin film (≈1 μm thick), comprised of a PANi/graphene‐PEDOT:PSS/PANi/DWNT‐PEDOT:PSS repeating sequence, exhibits unprecedented electrical conductivity (σ ≈ 1.9 × 105 S m?1) and Seebeck coefficient (S ≈ 120 μV K?1) for a completely organic material. These two values yield a thermoelectric power factor (PF = S 2 σ ?1) of 2710 μW m?1 K?2, which is the highest value ever reported for a completely organic material and among the highest for any material measured at room temperature. These outstanding properties are attributed to the highly ordered structure in the multilayer assembly. This water‐based thermoelectric nanocomposite is competitive with the best inorganic semiconductors (e.g., bismuth telluride) at room temperature and can be applied as a coating to any flexible surface (e.g., fibers in clothing). For the first time, there is a real opportunity to harness waste heat from unconventional sources, such as body heat, to power devices in an environmentally‐friendly way.  相似文献

Colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) are demonstrated to be promising materials to realize high‐performance thermoelectrics owing to their low thermal conductivity. The most studied CQD films, however, are using long ligands that require high processing and operation temperature (>400 °C) to achieve optimum thermoelectric performance. Here the thermoelectric properties of CQD films cross‐linked using short ligands that allow strong inter‐QD coupling are reported. Using the ligands, p‐type thermoelectric solids are demonstrated with a high Seebeck coefficient and power factor of 400 μV K?1 and 30 µW m?1 K?2, respectively, leading to maximum ZT of 0.02 at a lower measurement temperature (<400 K) and lower processing temperature (<300 °C). These ligands further reduce the annealing temperature to 175 °C, significantly increasing the Seebeck coefficient of the CQD films to 580 μV K?1. This high Seebeck coefficient with a superior ZT near room temperature compared to previously reported high temperature‐annealed CQD films is ascribed to the smaller grain size, which enables the retainment of quantum confinement and significantly increases the hole effective mass in the films. This study provides a pathway to approach quantum confinement for achieving a high Seebeck coefficient yet strong inter‐QD coupling, which offers a step toward low‐temperature‐processed high‐performance thermoelectric generators.  相似文献

A systematic optimization of p‐type Sb2Te3 thermoelectric films made by potentiostatic electrodeposition on Au and stainless steel substrates is presented. The influence of the preparative parameters of deposition voltage, concentration, and the deposition method are investigated in a nitric acid solution. As a postdeposition step, the influence of annealing the films is investigated. The use of a potential‐controlled millisecond‐pulsed deposition method could improve both the morphology and the composition of the films. The samples are characterized in terms of composition, crystallinity, Seebeck coefficient, and electrical resistivity. Pulsed‐deposited films exhibit Seebeck coefficients of up to 160 μV K?1 and an electrical conductivity of 280 S cm?1 at room temperature, resulting in power factors of about 700 μW m?1 K?2. After annealing, power factors of maximum 852 μW m?1 K?2 are achieved. Although the annealing of DC‐deposited films significantly increased the power factor, they do not reach the values of the pulsed‐deposited films in the preannealing state. Structural analysis is performed with X‐ray diffraction and shows the crystalline structure of Sb2Te3 films. The performance is tuned by annealing of deposited films up to 300 °C under He atmosphere while performing in‐situ X‐ray diffraction and resistivity measurements. The chemical analysis of the films is performed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP‐OES) as well as scanning electron microscope energy dispersive X‐ray analysis (SEM‐EDX).  相似文献

A rapid solvent evaporation method based on the triple point of a processing solvent is presented to prepare carbon nanotube (CNT) foam with a porous structure for thermoelectric (TE) power generators. The rapid solvent evaporation process allows the preparation of CNT foam with various sizes and shapes. The obtained highly porous CNT foam with porosity exceeding 90% exhibits a low thermal conductivity of 0.17 W m?1 K?1 with increased phonon scattering, which is 100 times lower than that of a CNT film with a densely packed network. The aforementioned structural and thermal properties of the CNT foam are advantageous to develop a sufficient temperature gradient between the hot and cold parts to enhance TE output characteristics. To improve the electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient further, p‐ and n‐molecular dopants are easily introduced into the CNT foam, and the optimized condition is investigated based on the TE properties. Finally, optimized p‐ and n‐doped CNT foams are used to fabricate a vertical and flexible TE power generator with a combination of series and parallel mixed circuits. The maximum output power and output power per weight of the TE generator reach 1.5 µW and 82 µW g?1, respectively, at a temperature difference of 13.9 K.  相似文献

This study demonstrates the fabrication and characterization of a flexible thermoelectric (TE) power generator composed of silicon nanowires (SiNWs) fabricated by top‐down method and discusses its strain‐dependence analysis. The Seebeck coefficients of the p‐ and n‐type SiNWs used to form a pn‐module are 156.4 and ?146.1 µV K?1, respectively. The maximum power factors of the p‐ and n‐type SiNWs are obtained as 8.79 and 8.87 mW (m K2)?1, respectively, under a convex bending of 1.11%, respectively; these are the largest values among the power factors hitherto reported for SiNWs. The dimensionless figure of merit (ZT ) values of the SiNWs at room temperature are 6.8 × 10?2 and 6.7 × 10?2 for the convex bent p‐ and n‐type SiNWs, respectively, with a strain of 1.11%. The thermoelectric properties of the pn‐module and its component SiNWs are characterized under strain conditions ranging from ?1.11% to 1.11%. The maximum Seebeck coefficient and power factor of the pn‐module are obtained as 448 µV K?1 and 14.2 mW (m K2)?1, respectively, under convex bending of 1.11%. Moreover, the mechanical stability of the TE characteristics of the pn‐module is demonstrated through a continuous bending test of 3000 cycles under convex bending of 0.66%.  相似文献

Poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) is widely used as hole injection/extraction material in organic optoelectronics. However, there still exist drawbacks for PEDOT:PSS such as low work function (WF), poor structural and electrical homogeneity. To solve these problems, methylnaphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde condensate (MNSF) is applied, which has excellent dispersion property, branched chemical structure, and low cost, as dispersant and dopant instead of linear PSS to prepare PEDOT:MNSF. The hole injection/extraction capability of PEDOT:MNSF is systematically studied in organic optoelectronic devices. PEDOT:MNSF‐1:6 exhibits unexpected high device performance with a maxima current efficiency of 33.4 cd A?1 in blue phosphorescent organic light‐emitting diode and a power conversion efficiency of 13.1% in CH3NH3PbIx Cl3?x ‐based inverted perovskite solar cell, respectively. Compared with PEDOT:PSS, the relatively higher efficiency of PEDOT:MNSF‐1:6 is attributed mainly to its higher WF of 5.29 eV, structural and electrical homogeneity. Our research displays a promising future of MNSF as a cheap and widely available alternative of PSS. Moreover, a clear map is provided for the design of dopant for PEDOT considering the structure of dopant.  相似文献

Colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) are attractive materials for thermoelectric applications due to their simple and low‐cost processing; advantageously, they also offer low thermal conductivity and high Seebeck coefficient. To date, the majority of CQD thermoelectric films reported upon have been p‐type, while only a few reports are available on n‐type films. High‐performing n‐ and p‐type films are essential for thermoelectric generators (TEGs) with large output voltage and power. Here, high‐thermoelectric‐performance n‐type CQD films are reported and showcased in high‐performance all‐CQD TEGs. By engineering the electronic coupling in the films, a thorough removal of insulating ligands is achieved and this is combined with excellent surface trap passivation. This enables a high thermoelectric power factor of 24 µW m?1 K?2, superior to previously reported n‐type lead chalcogenide CQD films operating near room temperature (<1 µW m?1 K?2). As a result, an all‐CQD film TEG with a large output voltage of 0.25 V and a power density of 0.63 W m?2 at ?T = 50 K is demonstrated, which represents an over fourfold enhancement to previously reported p‐type only CQD TEGs.  相似文献

Thermoelectric materials can be used to harvest low‐grade heat that is otherwise dissipated to the environment. But the conventional thermoelectric materials that are semiconductors or semimetals, usually exhibit a Seebeck coefficient of much less than 1 mV K?1. They are expensive and consist of toxic elements as well. Here, it is demonstrated environmental benign flexible quasi‐solid state ionogels with giant Seebeck coefficient and ultrahigh thermoelectric properties. The ionogels made of ionic liquids and poly(vinylidene fluoride‐co‐hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF‐HFP) can exhibit a giant Seebeck coefficient up to 26.1 mV K?1, the highest for electronic and ionic conductors. In addition, they have a high ionic conductivity of 6.7 mS cm?1 and a low thermal conductivity of 0.176 W m?1 K?1. Their thermoelectric figure of merit (ZT) is thus 0.75. The giant Seebeck coefficient is related to the ion‐dipole interaction between PVDF‐HFP and ionic liquids. Their application in ionic thermoelectric capacitors is also demonstrated for the conversion of intermittent heat into electricity. They are especially important to harvest the low‐grade thermal energy that is abundant on earth.  相似文献

Silver grids are attractive for replacing indium tin oxide as flexible transparent conductors. This work aims to improve the electrochemical stability of silver‐based transparent conductors. A silver grid/PEDOT:PSS hybrid film with high conductivity and excellent stability is successfully fabricated. Its functionality for flexible electrochromic applications is demonstrated by coating one layer of WO3 nanoparticles on the silver grid/PEDOT:PSS hybrid film. This hybrid structure presents a large optical modulation of 81.9% at 633 nm, fast switching, and high coloration efficiency (124.5 cm2 C?1). More importantly, an excellent electrochemical cycling stability (sustaining 79.1% of their initial transmittance modulation after 1000 cycles) and remarkable mechanical flexibility (optical modulation decay of only 7.5% after 1200 compressive bending cycles) is achieved. A novel smart supercapacitor is presented that functions as a regular energy‐storage device and simultaneously monitors the level of stored energy by a rapid and reversible color variation even at high current charge/discharge conditions. The film sustains an optical modulation of 87.7% and a specific capacitance of 67.2% at 10 A g?1 compared to their initial value at a current density of 1 A g?1. The high‐performance silver grid/PEDOT:PSS hybrid transparent films exhibit promising features for various emerging flexible electronics and optoelectronic devices.  相似文献

Conjugated polymers with high electrical conductivities are attractive for applications in capacitors, biosensors, organic thermoelectrics, and transparent electrodes. Here, a series of solution processable dioxythiophene copolymers based on 3,4‐propylenedioxythiophene (ProDOT) and 3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) is investigated as thermoelectric and transparent electrode materials. Through structural manipulation of the polymer repeat unit, the conductivity of the polymers upon oxidative solution doping is tuned from 1 × 10?3 to 3 S cm?1, with a polymer consisting of a solubilizing alkylated ProDOT unit and an electron‐rich biEDOT unit (referred to as PE2) showing the highest electrical conductivity. Optimization of the film casting method and screening of dopants result in AgPF6‐doped PE2 achieving a high electrical conductivity of over 250 S cm?1 and a thermoelectric power factor of 7 μW m?1 K?2. Oxidized spray cast films of PE2 are also assessed as a transparent electrode material for use with another electrochromic polymer. This bilayer shows reversible electrochemical switching from a colored charge‐neutral state to a highly transmissive color‐neutral, oxidized state. These results demonstrate that dioxythiophene‐based copolymers are a promising class of materials, with ProDOT–biEDOT serving as a soluble analog to the well‐studied PEDOT as a p‐type thermoelectric and electrode material.  相似文献

Oxygen‐containing compounds are promising thermoelectric (TE) materials for their chemical and thermal stability. As compared with the high‐performance p‐type counterparts (e.g., ZT ≈1.5 for BiCuSeO), the enhancement of the TE performance of n‐type oxygen‐containing materials remains challenging due to their mediocre electrical conductivity and high thermal conductivity. Here, n‐type layered Bi2O2Se is reported as a potential TE material, of which the thermal conductivity and electrical transport properties can be effectively tuned via carrier engineering and hierarchical microstructure. By selective modification of insulating [Bi2O2]2+ layers with Ta dopant, carrier concentration can be increased by four orders of magnitude (from 1015 to 1019 cm?3) while relatively high carrier mobility can be maintained, thus greatly enhancing the power factors (≈451.5 µW K?2 m?1). Meanwhile, the hierarchical microstructure can be induced by Ta doping, and the phonon scattering can be strengthened by atomic point defects, nanodots of 5–10 nm and grains of sub‐micrometer level, which progressively suppresses the lattice thermal conductivity. Accordingly, the ZT value of Bi1.90Ta0.10O2Se reaches 0.36 at 773 K, a ≈350% improvement in comparison with that of the pristine Bi2O2Se. The average ZT value of 0.30 from 500 to 823 K is outstanding among n‐type oxygen‐containing TE materials. This work provides a desirable way for enhancing the ZT values in oxygen‐containing compounds.  相似文献

Here, an effective design strategy of polymer thermoelectric materials based on structural control in doped polymer semiconductors is presented. The strategy is illustrated for two archetypical polythiophenes, e.g., poly(2,5‐bis(3‐dodecyl‐2‐thienyl)thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene) (C12‐PBTTT) and regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT). FeCl3 doping of aligned films results in charge conductivities up to 2 × 105 S cm?1 and metallic‐like thermopowers similar to iodine‐doped polyacetylene. The films are almost optically transparent and show strongly polarized near‐infrared polaronic bands (dichroic ratio >10). The comparative study of structure–property correlations in P3HT and C12‐PBTTT identifies three conditions to obtain conductivities beyond 105 S cm?1: i) achieve high in‐plane orientation of conjugated polymers with high persistence length; ii) ensure uniform chain oxidation of the polymer backbones by regular intercalation of dopant molecules in the polymer structure without disrupting alignment of π‐stacked layers; and iii) maintain a percolating nanomorphology along the chain direction. The highly anisotropic conducting polymer films are ideal model systems to investigate the correlations between thermopower S and charge conductivity σ. A scaling law S ∝ σ?1/4 prevails along the chain direction, but a different S ∝ ?ln(σ) relation is observed perpendicular to the chains, suggesting different charge transport mechanisms. The simultaneous increase of charge conductivity and thermopower along the chain direction results in a substantial improvement of thermoelectric power factors up to 2 mW m?1 K?2 in C12‐PBTTT.  相似文献

Background

An exciting direction in nanomedicine would be to analyze how living cells respond to conducting polymers. Their application for tissue regeneration may advance the performance of drug eluting stents by addressing the delayed stent re-endothelialization and late stent thrombosis.

Methods

The suitability of poly (3, 4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) thin films for stents to promote cell adhesion and proliferation is tested in correlation with doping and physicochemical properties. PEDOT doped either with poly (styrenesulfonate) (PSS) or tosylate anion (TOS) was used for films' fabrication by spin coating and vapor phase polymerization respectively. PEGylation of PEDOT: TOS for reduced immunogenicity and biofunctionalization of PEDOT: PSS with RGD peptides for induced cell proliferation was further applied. Atomic Force Microscopy and Spectroscopic Ellipsometry were implemented for nanotopographical, structural, optical and conductivity measurements in parallel with wettability and protein adsorption studies. Direct and extract testing of cell viability and proliferation of L929 fibroblasts on PEDOT samples by MTT assay in line with SEM studies follow.

Results

All PEDOT thin films are cytocompatible and promote human serum albumin adsorption. PEDOT:TOS films were found superior regarding cell adhesion as compared to controls. Their nanotopography and hydrophilicity are significant factors that influence cytocompatibility. PEGylation of PEDOT:TOS increases their conductivity and hydrophilicity with similar results on cell viability with bare PEDOT:TOS. The biofunctionalized PEDOT:PSS thin films show enhanced cell proliferation.

Conclusions

The application of PEDOT polymers has evolved as a new perspective to advance stents.

This work presents a comprehensive study of the fabrication and optimization of electrodeposited p‐ and n‐type thermoelectric films. The films are deposited on Au and stainless steel substrates over a wide range of deposition potentials. The influence of the preparative parameters such as the composition of the electrolyte bath and the deposition potential are investigated. Furthermore, the p‐doped (BixSb1‐x)2Te3 and the n‐doped Bi2(TexSe1‐x)3 films are annealed for a period of about 1 h under helium and under tellurium atmosphere at 250 °C for 60h. Annealing in He already leads to significant improvements in the thermoelectric performance. Furthermore, due to the equilibrium conditions during the process, annealing in Te atmosphere leads to a strongly improved film composition, charge carrier density and mobility. The Seebeck coefficients increase to values up to +182 μV K?1 for p‐doped and–130 μV K?1 for n‐doped materials at room temperature. The power factors also exhibit improvements with 1320 μW m?1 K?2 and 820 μW m?1 K?2 for p‐doped and n‐doped films, respectively. Additionally, in‐situ XRD measurements performed during annealing of the films up to 600K under He atmosphere show stepwise improvements of the crystal structure leading to the improvements in thermoelectric parameters. The thermal conductivity is between 1.2 W m?1 K?1 and 1.0 W m?1 K?1.  相似文献

Poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) has been is applied as hole transport material in organic electronic devices for more than 20 years. However, the redundant sulfonic acid group of PEDOT:PSS has often been overlooked. Herein, PEDOT:PSS‐DA is prepared via a facile doping of PEDOT:PSS with dopamine hydrochloride (DA·HCl) which reacts with the redundant sulfonic acid of PSS. The PEDOT:PSS‐DA film exhibits enhanced work function and conductivity compared to those of PEDOT:PSS. PEDOT:PSS‐DA‐based devices show a power conversion efficiency of 16.55% which is the highest in organic solar cells (OSCs) with (poly[(2,6‐(4,8‐bis(5‐(2‐ethylhexyl)‐4‐fluorothiophen‐2‐yl)benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithio‐phene))‐co‐(1,3‐di(5‐thiophene‐2‐yl)‐5,7‐bis(2‐ethylhexyl)‐benzo[1,2‐c:4,5‐c′]dithiophene‐4,8‐dione))] (PM6):(2,2′‐((2Z,2′Z)‐((12,13‐bis(2‐ethylhexyl)‐3,9‐diundecyl‐12,13‐dihydro‐[1,2,5]thiadiazolo[3,4‐e]thieno[2′′,3′:4′,5′]thieno[2′,3′:4,5]pyrrolo[3,2‐g]thieno[2′,3′:4,5]thieno[3,2‐b]indole‐2,10‐diyl)bis(methanylylidene))bis(5,6‐difluoro‐3‐oxo‐2,3‐dihydro‐1H‐indene‐2,1‐diylidene))dimalononitrile) (Y6) as the active layer. Furthermore, PEDOT:PSS‐DA also exhibits enhanced performance in three other donor/acceptor systems, exhibiting high compatibility in OSCs. This work demonstrates that doping PEDOT:PSS with various amino derivatives is a potentially efficient strategy to enhance the performance of PEDOT:PSS in organic electronic devices.  相似文献

A solution‐processed neutral hole transport layer is developed by in situ formation of MoO3 in aqueous PEDOT:PSS dispersion (MoO3‐PEDOT:PSS). This MoO3‐PEDOT:PSS composite film takes advantage of both the highly conductive PEDOT:PSS and the ambient conditions stability of MoO3; consequently it possesses a smooth surface and considerably reduced hygroscopicity. The resulting bulk heterojunction polymer solar cells (BHJ PSC) based on poly[2,3‐bis‐(3‐octyloxyphenyl)quinoxaline‐5,8‐diyl‐alt‐thiophene‐2,5‐diyl] (TQ1):[6,6]‐phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC70BM) blends using MoO3‐PEDOT:PSS composite film as hole transport layer (HTL) show considerable improvement in power conversion efficiency (PCE), from 5.5% to 6.4%, compared with the reference pristine PEDOT:PSS‐based device. More importantly, the device with MoO3‐PEDOT:PSS HTL shows considerably improved stability, with the PCE remaining at 80% of its original value when stored in ambient air in the dark for 10 days. In comparison, the reference solar cell with PEDOT:PSS layer shows complete failure within 10 days. This MoO3‐PEDOT:PSS implies the potential for low‐cost roll‐to‐roll fabrication of high‐efficiency polymer solar cells with long‐term stability at ambient conditions.  相似文献

p‐type CuInTe2 thermoelectric (TE) materials are of great interest for applications in the middle temperature range because of their environmentally benign chemical component and stable phase under operating temperatures. In order to enhance their TE performance to compete with the Pb based TE materials, a progressive regulation of electrical and thermal transport properties has been employed in this work. Anion P and Sb substitution is used to tune the electrical transport properties of CuInTe2 for the first time, leading to a sharp enhancement in power factor due to the reduction of electrical resistivity by acceptor doping and the increase of the Seebeck coefficient resulted from the improvement of density of states. Concurrently, In2O3 nanoinclusions are introduced through an in situ oxidation between CuInTe2 and ZnO additives, rendering a great reduction in the thermal conductivity of CuInTe2 by the extra phonon scattering. Then, by integrating the anion substitution and nanoinclusions, a high power factor of 1445 μW m?1 K?2 and enhanced ZT of 1.61 at 823 K are achieved in the CuInTe2 based TE material. This implies that the synergistic regulation of electrical and thermal transport properties by anion substitution and in situ nanostructure is a very effective approach to improve the TE performance of CuInTe2 compounds.  相似文献

Solution processed polymer:fullerene solar cells on opaque substrates have been fabricated in conventional and inverted device configurations. Opaque substrates, such as insulated steel and metal covered glass, require a transparent conducting top electrode. We demonstrate that a high conducting (900 S cm?1) PEDOT:PSS layer, deposited by a stamp‐transfer lamination technique using a PDMS stamp, in combination with an Ag grid electrode provides a proficient and versatile transparent top contact. Lamination of large size PEDOT:PSS films has been achieved on variety of surfaces resulting in ITO‐free solar cells. Power conversion efficiencies of 2.1% and 3.1% have been achieved for P3HT:PCBM layers in inverted and conventional polarity configurations, respectively. The power conversion efficiency is similar to conventional glass/ITO‐based solar cells. The high fill factor (65%) and the unaffected open‐circuit voltage that are consistently obtained in thick active layer inverted geometry devices, demonstrate that the laminated PEDOT:PSS top electrodes provide no significant potential or resistive losses.  相似文献

In this work, a zT value as high as 1.2 at room temperature for n‐type Ag2Se films is reported grown by pulsed hybrid reactive magnetron sputtering (PHRMS). PHRMS is a novel technique developed in the lab that allows to grow film of selenides with different compositions in a few minutes with great quality. The improved zT value reported for room temperature results from the combination of the high power factors, similar to the best values reported for bulk Ag2Se (2440 ± 192 µW m?1 K?2), along with a reduced thermoelectric conductivity as low as 0.64 ± 0.1 W m?1 K?1. The maximum power factor for these films is of 4655 ± 407 µW m?1 K?2 at 103 °C. This material shows promise to work for room temperature applications. Obtaining high zT or, in other words, high power factor and low thermal conductivity values close to room temperature for thin films is of high importance to develop a new generation of wearable devices based on thermoelectric heat recovery.  相似文献

This paper demonstrates that thermal energy radiated from a human finger can be converted efficiently into electricity by a nanocrystal (NC) thin film that substantially suppresses thermal conduction, but still allows electric conduction. The converting efficiencies of the chalcogenide NC thin films with dimensions 40 µm × 20 µm × 20 nm, prepared on flexible substrates by a solution process, are maximized by adjusting the NC size. A Seebeck coefficient of S = 1829 µV K?1, and a dimensionless thermoelectric figure‐of‐merit, ZT = 0.68 are achieved at ambient temperature for p‐ and n‐type NC thin films, respectively. A thermoelectric array consisting of p‐ and n‐type NC thin films generates a voltage of 645 mV for a temperature gradient of 10 K. Furthermore, the donut‐shaped pn array can generate a voltage of 170 mV from the heat supplied by an individual's finger.  相似文献
