The development of dual catalysts with high efficiency toward oxygen reduction and evolution reactions (ORR and OER) in acidic media is a significant challenge. Here an active and durable dual catalyst based upon cubic Pt39Ir10Pd11 nanocages with an average edge length of 12.3 nm, porous walls as thin as 1.0 nm, and well‐defined {100} facets is reported. The trimetallic nanocages perform better than all the reported dual catalysts in acidic media, with a low ORR‐OER overpotential gap of only 704 mV at a Pt‐Ir‐Pd loading of 16.8 µgPt+Ir+Pd cm?2geo. For ORR at 0.9 V, when benchmarked against the commercial Pt/C and Pt‐Pd nanocages, the trimetallic nanocages exhibit an enhanced mass activity of 0.52 A mg?1Pt+Ir+Pd (about four and two times as high as those of the Pt/C and Pt‐Pd nanocages) and much improved durability. For OER, the trimetallic nanocages show a remarkable mass activity of 0.20 A mg?1Pt+Ir at 1.53 V, which is 16.7 and 4.3 fold relative to those of the Pt/C and Pt‐Pd nanocages, respectively. These improvements can be ascribed to the highly open structure of the nanocages, and the possible electronic coupling between Ir and Pt atoms in the lattice.  相似文献

To improve the utilization efficiency of precious metals, metal‐supported materials provide a direction for fabricating highly active and stable heterogeneous catalysts. Herein, carbon cloth (CC)‐supported Earth‐abundant CoS2 nanosheet arrays (CoS2/CC) are presented as ideal substrates for ultrafine Pt deposition (Pt‐CoS2/CC) to achieve remarkable performance toward the hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions (HER/OER) in alkaline solutions. Notably, the Pt‐CoS2/CC hybrid delivers an overpotential of 24 mV at 10 mA cm?2 and a mass activity of 3.89 A Ptmg?1, which is 4.7 times higher than that of commercial Pt/C, at an overpotential of 130 mV for catalyzing the HER. An alkali‐electrolyzer using Pt‐CoS2/CC as a bifunctional electrode enables a water‐splitting current density of 10 mA cm?2 at a low voltage of 1.55 V and can sustain for more than 20 h, which is superior to that of the state‐of‐the‐art Pt/C+RuO2 catalyst. Further experimental and theoretical simulation studies demonstrate that strong electronic interaction between Pt and CoS2 synergistically optimize hydrogen adsorption/desorption behaviors and facilitate the in situ generation of OER active species, enhancing the overall water‐splitting performance. This work highlights the regulation of interfacial and electronic synergy in pursuit of highly efficient and durable supported catalysts for hydrogen and oxygen electrocatalytic applications.  相似文献

Aucore/Ptshell–graphene catalysts (G‐Cys‐Au@Pt) are prepared through chemical and surface chemical reactions. Au–Pt core–shell nanoparticles (Au@Pt NPs) covalently immobilized on graphene (G) are efficient electrocatalysts in low‐temperature polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells. The 9.5 ± 2 nm Au@Pt NPs with atomically thin Pt shells are attached on graphene via l ‐cysteine (Cys), which serves as linkers controlling NP loading and dispersion, enhancing the Au@Pt NP stability, and facilitating interfacial electron transfer. The increased activity of G‐Cys‐Au@Pt, compared to non‐chemically immobilized G‐Au@Pt and commercial platinum NPs catalyst (C‐Pt), is a result of (1) the tailored electron transfer pathways of covalent bonds integrating Au@Pt NPs into the graphene framework, and (2) synergetic electronic effects of atomically thin Pt shells on Au cores. Enhanced electrocatalytic oxidation of formic acid, methanol, and ethanol is observed as higher specific currents and increased stability of G‐Cys‐Au@Pt compared to G‐Au@Pt and C–Pt. Oxygen reduction on G‐Cys‐Au@Pt occurs at 25 mV lower potential and 43 A gPt?1 higher current (at 0.9 V vs reversible hydrogen electrode) than for C–Pt. Functional tests in direct fomic acid, methanol and ethanol fuel cells exhibit 95%, 53%, and 107% increased power densities for G‐Cys‐Au@Pt over C–Pt, respectively.  相似文献

Carbon materials suffer from corrosion at the cathode of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). In the presence of water, carbon support materials are oxidized to carbon dioxide even at low potentials. Hence, nowadays it is very fashionable to look for alternative support materials, like oxides or conductive polymers. To gain the maximum performance for a new material one should also consider an appropriate electrode structure. This study shows the results for the incorporation of nanosized alternative support materials into advanced electrode architectures. Commercially available indium tin oxide (ITO) nanoparticles (<50 nm) are used as support for Pt nanoparticles in combination with Nafion‐coated multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on the cathode side of a PEMFC. The MWCNTs promote a high electronic conductivity and help to form a porous network, which could accommodate the Pt/ITO nanoparticles. The microscopic investigations show a homogeneous electrode structure composed of Pt/ITO and MWCNT/Nafion multilayer. Single cell measurements show a maximum power density of 73 mW cm?2 and a Pt utilization of 1468 mW mgPt?1 for the cathode. The performance data and the Pt utilization are comparable to a standard Pt/carbon black electrode possessing the same Pt loading in the electrode. Beside this, it is shown for the first time that ITO serves as support material under real fuel cell conditions.  相似文献

Bifunctional oxygen catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) with high activities and low‐cost are of prime importance and challenging in the development of fuel cells and rechargeable metal–air batteries. This study reports a porous carbon nanomaterial loaded with cobalt nanoparticles (Co@NC‐x/y) derived from pyrolysis of a Co/Zn bimetallic zeolitic imidazolite framework, which exhibits incredibly high activity as bifunctional oxygen catalysts. For instance, the optimal catalyst of Co@NC‐3/1 has the interconnected framework structure between porous carbon and embedded carbon nanotubes, which shows the superb ORR activity with onset potential of ≈1.15 V and half‐wave potential of ≈0.93 V. Moreover, it presents high OER activity that can be further enhanced to over commercial RuO2 by P‐doped with overpotentials of 1.57 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode at 10 mA cm?2 and long‐term stability for 2000 circles and a Tafel slope of 85 mV dec?1. Significantly, the nanomaterial demonstrates better catalytic performance and durability than Pt/C for ORR and commercial RuO2 and IrO2 for OER. These findings suggest the importance of a synergistic effect of graphitic carbon, nanotubes, exposed Co–Nx active sites, and interconnected framework structure of various carbons for bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts.  相似文献

The oxygen electrode plays a vital role in the successful commercialization of renewable energy technologies, such as fuel cells and water electrolyzers. In this study, the Prussian blue analogue‐derived nitrogen‐doped nanocarbon (NC) layer‐trapped, cobalt‐rich, core–shell nanostructured electrocatalysts (core–shell Co@NC) are reported. The electrode exhibits an improved oxygen evolution activity and stability compared to that of the commercial noble electrodes. The core–shell Co@NC‐loaded nickel foam exhibits a lower overpotential of 330 mV than that of IrO2 on nickel foam at 10 mA cm?2 and has a durability of over 400 h. The commercial Pt/C cathode‐assisted, core–shell Co@NC–anode water electrolyzer delivers 10 mA cm?2 at a cell voltage of 1.59 V, which is 70 mV lower than that of the IrO2–anode water electrolyzer. Over the long‐term chronopotentiometry durability testing, the IrO2–anode water electrolyzer shows a cell voltage loss of 230 mV (14%) at 95 h, but the loss of the core–shell Co@NC–anode electrolyzer is only 60 mV (4%) even after 350 h cell‐operation. The findings indicate that the Prussian blue analogue is a class of inorganic nanoporous materials that can be used to derive metal‐rich, core–shell electrocatalysts with enriched active centers.  相似文献

It is urgently required to develop highly efficient and stable bifunctional non‐noble metal electrocatalysts for both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) for water splitting. In this study, a facile electrospinning followed by a post‐carbonization treatment to synthesize nitrogen‐doped carbon nanofibers (NCNFs) integrated with Ni and Mo2C nanoparticles (Ni/Mo2C‐NCNFs) as water splitting electrocatalysts is developed. Owing to the strong hydrogen binding energy on Mo2C and high electrical conductivity of Ni, synergetic effect between Ni and Mo2C nanoparticles significantly promote both HER and OER activities. The optimized hybrid (Ni/Mo2C(1:2)‐NCNFs) delivers low overpotentials of 143 mV for HER and 288 mV for OER at a current density of 10 mA cm?2. An alkaline electrolyzer with Ni/Mo2C(1:2)‐NCNFs as catalysts for both anode and cathode exhibits a current density of 10 mA cm?2 at a voltage of 1.64 V, which is only 0.07 V larger than the benchmark of Pt/C‐RuO2 electrodes. In addition, an outstanding long‐term durability during 100 h testing without obvious degradation is achieved, which is superior to most of the noble‐metal‐free electrocatalysts reported to date. This work provides a simple and effective approach for the preparation of low‐cost and high‐performance bifunctional electrocatalysts for efficient overall water splitting.  相似文献

Atomically dispersed transition metals confined with nitrogen on a carbon support has demonstrated great electrocatalytic performance, but an extremely low concentration of metal atoms (usually below 1.5%) is necessary to avoid aggregation through sintering which limits mass activity. Here, a salt‐template method to fabricate densely populated, monodispersed cobalt atoms on a nitrogen‐doped graphene‐like carbon support is reported, and achieving a dramatically higher site fraction of Co atoms (≈15.3%) in the catalyst and demonstrating excellent electrocatalytic activity for both the oxygen reduction reaction and oxygen evolution reaction. The atomic dispersion and high site fraction of Co provide a large electrochemically active surface area of ≈105.6 m2 g?1, leading to very high mass activity for ORR (≈12.164 A mgCo?1 at 0.8 V vs reversible hydrogen electrode), almost 10.5 times higher than that of the state‐of‐the‐art benchmark Pt/C catalyst (1.156 A mgPt?1 under similar conditions). It also demonstrates an outstanding mass activity for OER (0.278 A mgCo?1). The Zn‐air battery based on this bifunctional catalyst exhibits high energy density of 945 Wh kgZn?1 as well as remarkable stability. In addition, both density functional theory based simulations and experimental measurements suggest that the Co? N4 sites on the carbon matrix are the most active sites for the bifunctional oxygen electrocatalytic activity.  相似文献

Currently, it is still a significant challenge to simultaneously boost various reactions by one electrocatalyst with high activity, excellent durability, as well as low cost. Herein, hybrid trifunctional electrocatalysts are explored via a facile one‐pot strategy toward an efficient oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), oxygen evolution reaction (OER), and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The catalysts are rationally designed to be composed by FeCo nanoparticles encapsuled in graphitic carbon films, Co2P nanoparticles, and N,P‐codoped carbon nanofiber networks. The FeCo nanoparticles and the synergistic effect from Co2P and FeCo nanoparticles make the dominant contributions to the ORR, OER, and HER activities, respectively. Their bifunctional activity parameter (?E) for ORR and OER is low to 0.77 V, which is much smaller than those of most nonprecious metal catalysts ever reported, and comparable with state‐of‐the‐art Pt/C and RuO2 (0.78 V). Accordingly, the as‐assembled Zn–air battery exhibits a high power density of 154 mW cm?2 with a low charge–discharge voltage gap of 0.83 V (at 10 mA cm?2) and excellent stability. The as‐constructed overall water‐splitting cell achieves a current density of 10 mA cm?2 (at 1.68 V), which is comparable to the best reported trifunctional catalysts.  相似文献

Lithium‐oxygen batteries represent a significant scientific challenge for high‐rate and long‐term cycling using oxygen electrodes that contain efficient electrocatalysts. The mixed transition metal oxide catalysts provide the most efficient catalytic activity for partial heterogeneous surface cations with oxygen vacancies as the active phase. They include multiple oxidation states and oxygen vacancies. Here, using a combination of transmission electron microscopy, differential electrochemical mass spectrometry, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and electrochemical properties to probe the surface of the MnMoO4 nanowires, it is shown that the intrinsic MnMoO4 oxygen vacancies on the oxygen electrode are an effective strategy to achieve a high reversibility and high efficiency for lithium‐oxygen (Li‐O2) batteries. The modified MnMoO4 nanowires exhibit a highly stable capacity at a fixed capacity of 5000 mA h gsp?1 (calculated weight of Super P carbon black) during 50 cycles, a high‐rate capability at a current rate of 3000 mA gsp?1 during 70 cycles, and a long‐term reversible capacity during 188 cycles at a fixed capacity of 1000 mA h gsp?1. It is demonstrated that this strategy for creating mixed transition metal oxides (e.g., MnMoO4) may pave the way for the new structural design of electrocatalysts for Li‐O2 batteries.  相似文献

Water splitting is a promising technology for sustainable conversion of hydrogen energy. The rational design of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) bifunctional electrocatalysts with superior activity and stability in the same electrolyte is the key to promoting their large‐scale applications. Herein, an ultralow Ru (1.08 wt%) transition metal phosphide on nickel foam (Ru–MnFeP/NF) derived from Prussian blue analogue, that effectively drivies both the OER and the HER in 1 m KOH, is reported. To reach 20 mA cm?2 for OER and 10 mA cm?2 for HER, the Ru–MnFeP/NF electrode only requires overpotentials of 191 and 35 mV, respectively. Such high electrocatalytic activity exceeds most transition metal phosphides for the OER and the HER, and even reaches Pt‐like HER electrocatalytic levels. Accordingly, it significantly accelerates full water splitting at 10 mA cm?2 with 1.470 V, which outperforms that of the integrated RuO2 and Pt/C couple electrode (1.560 V). In addition, the extremely long operational stability (50 h) and the successful demonstration of a solar‐to‐hydrogen generation system through full water splitting provide more flexibility for large‐scale applications of Ru–MnFeP/NF catalysts.  相似文献

MoS2 has emerged as a promising alternative electrocatalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) due to high intrinsic per‐site activity on its edge sites and S‐vacancies. However, a significant challenge is the limited density of such sites. Reducing the size and layer number of MoS2 and vertically aligning them would be an effective way to enrich and expose such sites for HER. Herein, a facile self‐limited on‐site conversion strategy for synthesizing monolayer MoS2 in a couple of nanometers which are highly dispersed and vertically aligned on 3D porous carbon sheets is reported. It is discovered that the preformation of well‐dispersed MoO3 nanodots in 1–2 nm as limited source is the key for the fabrication of such an ultrasmall MoS2 monolayer. As indicated by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electron spin resonance data, these ultrasmall MoS2 monolayers are rich in accessible S‐edge sites and vacancies and the smaller MoS2 monolayers the more such sites they have, leading to enhanced electrocatalytic activity with a low overpotential of 126 mV at 10 mA cm?2 and 140 mV at 100 mA mg?1 for HER. This state‐of‐the‐art performance for MoS2 electrocatalysts enables the present strategy as a new avenue for exploring well‐dispersed ultrasmall nanomaterials as efficient catalysts.  相似文献

Constructing highly active electrocatalysts with superior stability at low cost is a must, and vital for the large‐scale application of rechargeable Zn–air batteries. Herein, a series of bifunctional composites with excellent electrochemical activity and durability based on platinum with the perovskite Sr(Co0.8Fe0.2)0.95P0.05O3?δ (SCFP) are synthesized via a facile but effective strategy. The optimal sample Pt‐SCFP/C‐12 exhibits outstanding bifunctional activity for the oxygen reduction reaction and oxygen evolution reaction with a potential difference of 0.73 V. Remarkably, the Zn–air battery based on this catalyst shows an initial discharge and charge potential of 1.25 and 2.02 V at 5 mA cm?2, accompanied by an excellent cycling stability. X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure, and extended X‐ray absorption fine structure experiments demonstrate that the superior performance is due to the strong electronic interaction between Pt and SCFP that arises as a result of the rapid electron transfer via the Pt? O? Co bonds as well as the higher concentration of surface oxygen vacancies. Meanwhile, the spillover effect between Pt and SCFP also can increase more active sites via lowering energy barrier and change the rate‐determining step on the catalysts surface. Undoubtedly, this work provides an efficient approach for developing low‐cost and highly active catalysts for wider application of electrochemical energy devices.  相似文献

Nonprecious metal catalysts (NPMCs) Fe?N?C are promising alternatives to noble metal Pt as the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts for proton‐exchange‐membrane fuel cells. Herein, a new modulation strategy is reported to the active moiety Fe?N4 via a precise “single‐atom to single‐atom” grafting of a Pt atom onto the Fe center through a bridging oxygen molecule, creating a new active moiety of Pt1?O2?Fe1?N4. The modulated Fe?N?C exhibits remarkably improved ORR stabilities in acidic media. Moreover, it shows unexpectedly high catalytic activities toward oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), with overpotentials of 310 mV for OER in alkaline solution and 60 mV for HER in acidic media at a current density of 10 mA cm?2, outperforming the benchmark RuO2 and comparable with Pt/C(20%), respectively. The enhanced multifunctional electrocatalytic properties are associated with the newly constructed active moiety Pt1?O2?Fe1?N4, which protects Fe sites from harmful species. Density functional theory calculations reveal the synergy in the new active moiety, which promotes the proton adsorption and reduction kinetics. Rational design and construction of bifunctional electrocatalysts with excellent activity and durability is imperative for water splitting. Herein, a novel top‐down strategy to realize a hierarchical branched Mo‐doped sulfide/phosphide heterostructure (Mo‐Ni3S2/NixPy hollow nanorods), by partially phosphating Mo‐Ni3S2/NF flower clusters, is proposed. Benefitting from the optimized electronic structure configuration, hierarchical branched hollow nanorod structure, and abundant heterogeneous interfaces, the as‐obtained multisite Mo‐Ni3S2/NixPy/NF electrode has remarkable stability and bifunctional electrocatalytic activity in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER)/oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in 1 m KOH solutions. It possesses an extremely low overpotential of 238 mV at the current density of 50 mA cm?2 for OER. Importantly, when assembled as anode and cathode simultaneously, it merely requires an ultralow cell voltage of 1.46 V to achieve the current density of 10 mA cm?2, with excellent durability for over 72 h, outperforming most of the reported Ni‐based bifunctional materials. Density functional theory results further confirm that the doped heterostructure can synergistically optimize Gibbs free energies of H and O‐containing intermediates (OH*, O*, and OOH*) during HER and OER processes, thus accelerating the catalytic kinetics of electrochemical water splitting. This work demonstrates the importance of the rational combination of metal doping and interface engineering for advanced catalytic materials.  相似文献

Platinum (Pt)‐based catalysts with high Pt utilization efficiency for efficient H2 evolution are attracting extensive attention to meet the issues of energy exhaustion and environmental pollution. Herein, a one‐step electrochemical method is demonstrated to construct ultrafine heterostructure Pt2W/WO3 on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) by injecting multielectrons into the Preyssler anion [NaP5W30O110]14? to codeposit with anodic deliquescent Pt cations. The resulting Pt2W/WO3/RGO shows much higher performance than that of commercial Pt catalysts for large‐current‐density H2 evolution, which can deliver a large current density of 500 mA cm?2 with an overpotential of only 394 mV, much lower than that of 20% Pt/C (578 mV). Comparisons with control experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations both suggest that the much enhanced activity can be mainly attributed to the synergistic cooperation of different components to drive fast and continuous hydrogen desorption on Pt2W/WO3/RGO, while it could not run normally for 20% Pt/C under similar conditions due to the formation of huge bubbles on the electrode surface. The effective integration of high catalytic activity and hydrogen desorption ability into a single material can yield advanced materials for large‐current‐density H2 evolution with remarkable stability.  相似文献

Searching for highly efficient and durable electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) that function effectively at all pHs is of great interest to the scientific community, however it is still a grand challenge, because the HER kinetics of Pt in alkaline solutions are approximately two to three orders of magnitude lower than that in acidic solution. Herein, a new class of wrinkled, ultrathin Rh2P nanosheets for enhancing HER catalysis at all pHs is reported. They exhibit a small overpotential of 18.3 mV at 10 mA cm?2, low Tafel slope of 61.5 mV dec?1, and good durability in alkaline media, much better than the commercial Pt/C catalyst. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the active open‐shell effect from the P‐3p band not only promotes Rh‐4d for increased proton–electron charge exchange but also provides excellent p–p overlapping to locate the O‐related species as distributary center, which can benefit the HER process in alkaline media. It is also demonstrated that the present wrinkled, ultrathin Rh2P nanosheets are highly efficient and durable electrocatalysts toward HER in both acid and neutral electrolytes. The present work opens a new material design for ultrathin 2D metal phosphide nanostructures for the purpose of boosting HER performance at all pHs.  相似文献

Searching for cost‐effective and high‐performance electrocatalysts for hydrogen production is of paramount importance. Herein, nickel‐copper (NiCu) alloy nanoparticles are encapsulated into graphitic shells via an ambient‐pressure chemical vapor deposition process. The resulting carbon‐encapsulated NiCu (denoted as NiCu@C) composite possesses a well‐defined core–shell structure with tunable thicknesses of the shells and is examined as electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in acidic, neutral, and alkaline solutions. Electrochemical measurements indicate that the activity of the NiCu@C highly depends on the thickness of the shell. Single‐layered graphene encapsulated NiCu nanoparticles show remarkable HER activity and durability. To obtain a current density of 10 mA cm?2, overpotentials of 48, 164, and 74 mV are needed in electrolyte solutions with pH = 0, 7, and 14, respectively. Such low overpotentials render the composite as one of the most active nonprecious electrocatalysts. Accelerated durability tests demonstrate that the NiCu@C catalysts exhibit excellent stability. Density function theory calculations are conducted to investigate the electronic structures of the NiCu@C. It is found that the representative Ni43Cu12@C240 model shows an ideal adsorption energy of hydrogen (?0.03 eV), manifesting its high HER activity.  相似文献

Designing high‐performance palladium (Pd) supports with enhanced ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR) activity has consistently been a challenge. Here, a novel anatase titanium dioxide nanosheets‐black phosphorus (ATN‐BP) hybrid is fabricated as a support for Pd nanoparticles used in the EOR. The direct ball‐milling of BP nanoflakes and ATN under argon protection lead to the formation of ATN‐BP hybrids with BP nanoflakes interconnected by cataclastic ATN with P? O? Ti bonds. The structure of ATN‐BP not only is beneficial for improving the electrolyte penetration and electron transportation but also has a strong influence on the stripping of reactive intermediates through the synergistic interaction between Pd and ATN‐BP. The results demonstrate that the Pd/ATN‐BP hybrids with heterointerfaces of Pd, BP, and ATN exhibit ultrahigh electroactivity and durability. In the EOR, the Pd/ATN‐BP catalyst can achieve an electrochemically active surface area of ≈462.1 m2 gPd?1 and a mass peak current density of 5023.8 mA mgPd?1, which are 11.67 and 6.87 times greater, respectively, than those of commercial Pd/C. The Pd/ATN‐BP catalysts also show remarkable stability with a retention rate of the peak current density of ≈30.6% after a durability test of 3600 s.  相似文献
