Germacranolides from Piptolepis Ericoides and Vanillosmopsis species

The aerial parts of Piptolepis ericoides afforded in addition to known compounds two new germacranolides, a zexbrevanolide and piptolepolide, tentatively characterized as a germacranolide with a trans-disubstituted double bond. From the aerial parts of two Vanillosmopis species in addition to goyazensolide, a new isomer with an exocyclic double bond was isolated.     

Beyerene derivatives and other terpenoids from Stevia aristata

The aerial parts of Stevia aristata afforded in addition to known compounds two new germacranolides, a melampolide, a 4Z-melampolide and two beyerene derivatives. From the roots a new dihydrolongipinene derivative was isolated while the aerial parts of Stevia andina gave the E/Z-isomers of austroinulin and 6-desoxyaustroinulin. The absolute configuration of these typical diterpenes is discussed.     

Some sesqui- and diterpenes from the tribe eupatorieae

The aerial parts of Trichogonia salviaefolia afforded a new ent-kaurenic acid derivative and a germacranolide which, most likely, is the precursor of the trichosalviolides. The aerial parts of Liatris spicata gave 1α-hydroxybacchotricuneatin A and a guaianolide, which may be the precursor of spicatin. From Brickellia vernicosa some further dehydronerolidol derivatives were isolated.     

Diterpenes from Baccharis species

The aerial parts of Baccharis minutiflora afforded in addition to known compounds eight new ent-kaurane derivatives, one being a homo kaurane, while the aerial parts of B. alatemoides gave two pairs of epimeric clerodane derivatives, which, however, had to be modified chemically before they could be separated. The stereochemistry of these diterpenes could not be elucidated with certainty.     

Eremophilane-, bisabolane- and shikimic acid-derivatives from Portugese Senecio species

The aerial parts ofSenecio lividus afforded four triesters of shikimic acid, four eremophilanes and two bisabolene epoxides. The roots ofS.pyrenaicus ssp.caespitosus gave a known furoeremophilane while the aerial parts afforded a new one with a rare substitution pattern.S.doronicum contained known furoeremophilanes. The structures were elucidated by various high field NMR techniques.     

11β,13-Dihydroguaianolides from Artemisia douglasiana and a thiophene acetylene from A. schmidtiana

The aerial parts of Artemisia douglasiana afforded, in addition to some known sesquiterpene lactones, 22 new closely related guaianolides. A new thiophene acetylene was isolated from the aerial parts of A. schmidtiana together with some known sesquiterpene lactones. The structures were elucidated by high field ¹H NMR spectroscopy.     

Dimeric guaianolides and other constituents from Gochnatia species

The roots of Gochnatia polymorpha afforded two new bisabolene derivatives and four dimeric guaianolides, two of them being isolated previously from G. paniculata. The aerial parts gave two further dimeric guaianolides. The aerial parts of G. hypoleuca afforded three new germacran-8,12-olides, a germacranolide acid and four additional dimeric guaianolides, which may be characteristic for this genus, while the presence of oxygenated germacranolides seems to be typical for the whole subtribe.     

Ein neues germacren-derivat sowie ein diterpenmalonat aus Baccharis-arten

The investigation of the aerial part of B. scandens afforded a new ketone, a germacrene derivative. The aerial parts of B. tricuneata var. lineata yielded, in addition to known ent-clerodane derivatives, a malonate of a further diterpene of this type. The structures are elucidated by spectroscopic methods.     

Sesquiterpene lactones from centaurea coronopifolia

The aerial parts of Centaurea coronopifolia afforded three new germacronolides, two of which are closely related to balsamin. The third is a new derivative of stizolicin, which is also present. The aerial parts also yielded four 6-methoxylatedflavonoids an spectroscopic methods.     

Pyrone derivatives from Podolepis hieracioides and sesquiterpene acids from Cassinia longifolia

The aerial parts of Podolepis hieracioides afforded eight γ-pyrones all derived from 2-methoxy-3,5-dimethyl-6-undecyl-γ-pyrone (podopyrone). The aerial parts of Cassinia longifolia gave in unusual high concentration two sesquiterpene acids, both related to costic acid. The structures were elucidated by highfield NMR spectroscopy. The structures of some previously reported pyrones are revised.     

Neue sesquiterpenlactone und nerolidol-derivate aus Ursinia-arten

The aerial parts of U. anethoides afforded, in addition to new nerolidol derivatives, a new germacranolide. The structure could only be elucidated by formation of the corresponding pyrazoline derivative and by comparison of the ¹H NMR data with those of similar pyrazolines. The aerial parts of U. alpina also contain a new nerolidol derivative and, in addition to the known 9β-hydroxycostunolide, a new eudesmanolide. The roots of all species contain furanosesquiterpenes, which are also present in related genera.     

Hirsutinolides and other sesquiterpene lactones from Vernonia species

The investigation of Vernonia compactiflora afforded in addition to known compounds a hirsutinolide and a glaucolide; the latter is most probably the direct precursor of the former. The aerial parts of V. monocephala contain the same hirsutinolide as well as the corresponding acetate, while those of V. chalybaea afforded glaucolide B. A reinvestigation of the aerial parts of V. cotoneaster gave in addition to the allenic lactone isolated before two further known ones as well as a new glaucolide. The structures of the lactones were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and some chemical transformations. The erroneously assigned stereochemistry at C-10 in the hirsutinolides has been revised. The biogenetic relationship of the Vernonia lactones is discussed briefly.     

Diterpenes related to grindelic acid and further constituents from Grindelia species

The aerial parts of Grindelia stricta afforded in addition to known compounds 21 diterpenes, all closely related to grindelic acid. The aerial part     

Eudesman-12,8β-olides and other terpenes from Artemisia species

The aerial parts of Artemisia iwayomogi afforded, in addition to already known terpenes, eleven new cudesmanolides whereas four new guaianolides were found in A. gmelinii. No sesquiterpene lactones were detected in the aerial parts of A. santolinifolia which afforded two new nerolidol derivatives besides several other already known compounds. From A. caerulescens var. cretacea six eudesmanolides were isolated, one of which has not been reported previously. The structures were elucidated by high field ¹H NMR spectroscopy and chemical transformations. The chemotaxonomic significance of sesquiterpene lactones within the section Abrotanum and the subgenus Seriphidium is briefly discussed.

The aerial parts of Urospermum picroides afforded, in addition to urospermal A a p-hydroxylphenyl acetate of a glucoside of urospermal A.

On the pungent principle of Matricaria pubescens

The pungent principle of the aerial parts and roots of Matricaria pubescens has shown to be the known thienyl-hexadien-isobutylamide. The structure was confirmed by ¹³C NMR analysis. In addition, the roots afforded small amounts of decadien-isobutylamide, and the aerial parts afforded large amounts of herniarin. The chemosystematic significance of amide accumulation within the tribe Anthemideae is briefly discussed.     

Eudesmanolides and costic acid derivatives from Flourensia macrophylla

The aerial parts of Flourensia macrophylla afforded, in addition to compounds similar to those from other Flourensia species, four new eudesman     

Ent-Labdanes from Baccharis Sternbergiana

The aerial parts of Baccharis sternbergiana afforded six new ent-labdane derivatives, while those of a Baccharis tricuneata subspecies gave 12-acetoxytremetone.     

Germacrane derivatives from Santolina chamaecyparissus

The aerial parts of Santolina chamaecyparissus subsp. squarrosa yieleded five new germacrane derivatives and a known eudesmane dialcohol.
