Isotachin A and isotachin B, two new sulphur-containing acrylates, were isolated from the liverwort Isotachis japonica. Their structures were established to be benzyl trans-β-methylthioacrylate and β-phenylethyl trans-β-methylthioacrylate by chemical and spectral methods. This is the first report of sulphur-containing substances from bryophytes. Some previously known benzoates and cinnamates as well as 2-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenyl 1β-glucoside and stigmasteryl 3β-glucoside were also isolated.  相似文献

The seed coat morphology and anatomy of Rhodiola angusta, Rh. alsia, Rh. integrifolia, Rh. ishidae, R. rosea subsp. arctica, Rh. rosea subsp. rosea and Rh. rosea subsp. sachalinensis were examined comparatively using scanning and light microscopy methods in order to evaluate their characteristics for use in systematic studies. Based on the features of the arrangement of cells and cell outline, three morphological types of seed coats were identified – laticostate (Rh. rosea subsp. rosea), tenuicostate (Rh. integrifolia, Rh. rosea subsp. rosea R. rosea subsp. arctica and Rh. rosea subsp. sachalinensis) and colliculate (Rh. alsia, Rh. angusta, Rh. ishidae). Exotesta sculpture features are stable across a range of habitats in all taxa except Rh. rosea subsp. rosea. Considerable variability of seed coat morphology is reported in the latter species and its possible implication for species taxonomy is discussed.  相似文献

BackgroundRhodiola rosea L. (Crassulaceae) has been used for years in the traditional medicine of several countries as an adaptogen drug, able to preserve homeostasis in response to stress stimuli. Currently R. rosea roots and rhizome are classified as a traditional herbal medicinal product for temporary relief of symptoms of stress, such as fatigue and sensation of weakness by the European Medicines Agency.Hypothesis/PurposeIncreasing evidences suggest the involvement of neuroinflammation in response to stress. However, whether the modulation of neuroinflammatory parameters could be involved in the anti-stress effect of R. rosea has been barely studied. Thus, the aim of this work is to investigate the possible modulation of molecular inflammatory processes elicited by a R. rosea roots and rhizome ethanolic extract in an in vitro model of corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH)-stimulated BV2 microglial cells.MethodsBV2 cells were stimulated with CRH 100 nM and changes in cell viability, cytokines production and heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) levels were evaluated. Intracellular pathways related to inflammation, such as nuclear factor kappa-light-chain enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) nuclear translocation and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) activation were also analyzed.ResultsWe found that R. rosea extract (2.7% m/m rosavin and 1% m/m salidroside) 20 µg/ml was able to counteract the neuroinflammatory effect of CRH by inhibiting NF-κB nuclear translocation with a mechanism of action involving the modulation of mitogen-activated protein kinase-activated protein kinase 2 (MKK2), extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK 1/2) and c-Jun n-terminal kinase (JNK), resulting in a reduction of HSP70 expression.ConclusionThis work expands the knowledge of the intracellular mechanisms involved in R. rosea anti-stress activity and may be useful for the study of other adaptogen drugs.  相似文献

Itajahya rosea was found growing in association with Leucaena leucocephala plants at Savitribai Phule Pune University campus in India. The species identity was confirmed by phylogenetic analysis based on ITS and LSU regions of rDNA, wherein, our fugus was placed along with I. rosea in phylogenetic tree. It represents first record of I. rosea from India. Frequent visitation by Drosophila species on I. rosea fruiting body particularly on gleba was observed. The Drosophila got attracted to the detached gleba under the laboratory conditions and even sometimes, they prefer to sit over the gleba as compare to their food banana. It suggested that I. rosea gleba or pseudostipe produces some compounds for attraction and feeding behavior of Drosophila species. Therefore, we characterized the volatile attractants produced by gleba and pseudostipe of I. rosea by GC-MS analysis. Nineteen compounds were identified from gleba while nine compounds were recovered from the pseudostipe. Out of them, blends of three abundant odor producing volatile compounds were reported namely, Hexadecane, Pentadecane and Nonadecane, which are responsible for attraction of Drosophila toward the gleba. Three fatty acids namely 9,12-octadecadienoic acid (Z,Z), hexadecanoic acid and benzoic acid ethyl ester produced are served as an appetitive signal through olfactory response of Drosophila, so the flies were feed on the gleba. Two pheromones’ compounds, heneicosane and (+)-(5S,9S)-5,9-dimethylpentadecane, were also reported in pseudostipe and gleba, respectively, which play a role in Drosophila for breeding. Our study highlights an intriguing chemical ecology of fungus–Drosophila interaction.  相似文献

The nutritional potential of short-horned grasshopper, Chondacris rosea (Acrididae) and mole cricket, Brachytrupes orientalis (Gryllidae), two common species of Orthoptera used as food by tribal people of Arunachal Pradesh (NE India), was assessed. C rosea and B. orientalis contain 68.88 and 65.74% crude protein, 7.88 and 6.33% fat, 12.38 and 8.75% crude fiber, 4.16 and 4.33% ash, and 6.69% and 15.18% carbohydrate, respectively. The protein in both species is composed of 18 amino acids, including all of the essential ones, which except for methionine, satisfy (scores > 100) the recommended dose suggested by FAO/WHO/UNU. The predominant fatty acids in C. rosea were: palmitic, stearic, oleic, linolenic and linoleic acid viz. 17.2, 12.4, 21, 24.5 and 16.4%, respectively. In B. orientalis palmitic (50.3%) and stearic acids (32%) were dominating. Mineral content was generally higher than that of conventional meat types. B. orientalis fulfilled the RDA (88–109%) for Fe and both species fulfilled the RDA for Zn (70 to 108%) and Cu (> 100%). Based on 100 g of fresh insects the calorific values of C. rosea and B. orientalis were 373.24 and 380.65% kcal. We conclude that these insects can be recommended as a replacement of vertebrate animal food items as and when required.  相似文献

A comparative study of leaf anatomy and morphology and of CO2 exchange was conducted with Rhodiola rosea L., Hylotelephium triphyllum (Haw.) Holub., and Sedum acre L. as representative Crassulacean species occurring in the northeast European Russia. The leaf mesophyll in R. rosea was clearly differentiated into the palisade and spongy tissues, whereas the mesophyll of stonecrops (H. triphyllum and S. acre) was composed of round-shaped cells. The leaves of S. acre featured the largest volume of mesophyll cells and possessed water-retaining cells located around conducting bundles. The chloroplast volume in S. acre (50 μm3) was three times smaller and the number of chloroplasts per cell (170 cell?1) was three times higher than in R. rosea and H. triphyllum (50–55 cell?1). The content of chlorophylls (5–7 mg/g dry wt) and carotenoids (1.5–2.0 mg/g dry wt) in R. rosea leaves was 2–3 times higher than in leaves of stonecrops. The rate of CO2 net uptake in Crassulacean species depended on mesostructure and correlated with the content of pigments and soluble carbohydrates. The photosynthetic rate in R. rosea under optimal irradiance and temperature attained the value of 40 mg/(g dry wt), which is 3 and 8 times higher than in H. triphyllum and S. acre, respectively. The temperature optimum for photosynthesis of R. rosea was observed at 8–18°C, while the optimum for stonecrops was shifted towards higher temperatures by 3–5°C. At chilling temperatures (5–7°C), the leaves of R. rosea retained 50% of their maximal photosynthetic rate, while photosynthetic rates in H. triphyllum and S. acre leaves lowered to 25–30% of the maximal rate. The increase in temperature to 25–30°C led to depression of CO2 net uptake in leaves of Crassulacean species. In R. rosea and H. triphyllum, the rate of photosynthetic electron flow was depressed at high irradiances and temperatures that were supraoptimal for net photosynthesis. It is concluded that the photosynthetic apparatus of Crassulacean species is well adapted to moderate and chilling temperatures, which adjusts the plant metabolism to “life strategies” under conditions of cold climate.  相似文献

Rhodiola rosea is widely distributed in Norway, but so far limited knowledge exists on the level of genetic diversity. To initiate a selective breeding program, Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP) analysis was used to estimate genetic diversity within the Norwegian R. rosea germplasm collection. AFLP analysis of 97 R. rosea clones using five primer combinations gave a total of 109 polymorphic bands. We detected high percentage of polymorphic bands (PPB) with a mean of 82.3% among the clones of R. rosea. Each of the 97 R. rosea clones could be unambiguously identified based on these primer combinations. Estimates of genetic similarities were obtained by the Dice coefficient, and a final dendrogram was constructed with the Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic mean (UPGMA). Genetic similarity based on the AFLP data ranged from 0.440 to 0.950 with a mean of 0.631. This genetic analysis showed that there was no close genetic similarity among clones related to their original growing county. No gender-specific markers were found in the R. rosea clones. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) revealed a significantly greater variation within regions (92.03%) than among regions (7.97%). A low level of genetic differentiation (FST = 0.043) was observed, indicating a high level of gene flow, which had a strong influence on the genetic structure at different counties. Our results indicate high gene flow among R. rosea clones that might be a result of seed dispersal rather than cross-pollination. Further world-wide studies are required to compare the level of genetic diversity and more studies in R. rosea detailing the consequences of different patterns of gene flow (pollen spread and dispersal of seeds and clonal plants) will be useful for characterization of roseroot.  相似文献

Clonostachys rosea is a widely distributed fungus that often acts as a parasite on other soil fungi. This fungus has also been reported as a potential parasite against nematodes and insects. The antagonistic activity is thought to be correlated with the secretion of cell wall-degrading enzymes, including chitinases. In this work, we identified and characterized an N-acetyl-β-d-glucosaminidase-encoding gene, cr-nag1, belonging to glycosyl hydrolase family 20, from the C. rosea strain IK726 using a degenerated primer strategy designed from conserved motifs. The complete gene, including its promoter region, was obtained by genomic walking. Southern analysis showed that cr-nag1 is present as a single copy gene in C. rosea. Phylogenetically, cr-nag1 showed the highest similarity to N-acetyl-β-d-glucosaminidase genes from other mycoparasitic fungi. Enzymatic assays and RT-PCR showed that the NAGase activity of C. rosea is specifically repressed in medium containing a high glucose content and is expressed in media containing chitin or Fusarium culmorum cell walls as sole carbon sources. Macroscopic and microscopic observations indicated that the mycelial growth of F. culmorum and Pythium ultimum were inhibited during interactions with C. rosea. High expression of cr-nag1 was found in interactions between C. rosea and F. culmorum, whereas the expression of cr-nag1 in interactions between C. rosea and P. ultimum was similar to the control. This indicates that although C. rosea secretes chitin-hydrolysing agents in order to target the cell wall of F. culmorum, it seems to use another strategy for controlling the development of the oomycete P. ultimum.  相似文献

In this work, the cytotaxonomic implications of the chromosomal characterization of cultivated and native Zephyranthes species described in northeastern Brazil were studied. All individuals had karyotype formed by a set of metacentric chromosomes, in addition to submetacentric and acrocentric chromosomes. In Zephyranthes robusta, 2n?=?12 was observed and karyotype with formula?4M?+?2SM in somatic cells, representing the most symmetric karyotype among the investigated species. Z.?sylvatica showed three different chromosome complement numbers: 2n?=?12 with formula?1M?+?5SM, 2n?=?12?+?1B with 1M?+?5SM?+?(1B), and 2n?=?18 formed by cracks. The cultivated species Z.?rosea Lindl. presented 2n?=?24 with 4M?+?7SM?+?1A, however Z.?grandiflora Lindl. showed the same chromosome number with 2M?+?5SM?+?5A. Zephyranthes aff. rosea Lindl. presented 2n?=?25 with one small metacentric forming a crack in the fourth metacentric pair. Z.?brachyandra has 2n?=?24?+?(1B) and formula?4M?+?3SM?+?5A?+?(1B). Z.?candida Herb. presented 2n?=?38 and karyotype formula?9M?+?10SM. In Habranthus itaobinus numerical variation was observed, with the majority of populations showing a chromosome complement composed of 2n?=?44?+?1B with 5M?+?12SM?+?5A?+?(1B), or 2n?=?44?+?3B in a single population. Mechanisms involved in the formation of these karyotypes from chromosomal imbalance data are discussed. Taken together, data from this study only partially confirm previous counts for epithets and further enhance the cytological variability data previously reported for the genus.  相似文献

The genetic diversity and differentiation of eleven R. rosea populations from different parts of its wide area of occurrence were studied by ISSR markers. Using eight primers, 252 DNA fragments were generated, and 243 of those DNA fragments were found to be polymorphic, indicating a high genetic variability at the species level (P = 96.4%, h = 0.176, SI = 0.291). Relatively low levels of diversity were determined at the population level (P 30.6-59.1%, h 0.088-0.165, SI 0.137-0.257). AMOVA analysis revealed that the majority of the genetic variation was within populations (65.42%), and the variance among populations was 34.58%. Cluster analysis revealed two groups of R. rosea populations; these groups likely represent distinct evolutionary lines in the species, which are different in genetic structure, evolutionary history and chorological migration routes.  相似文献

Sea-level rise and frequent intense hurricanes associated with climate change will result in recurrent flooding of inland systems such as Gulf Coastal pitcher plant bogs by storm surges. These surges can transport salt water and sediment to freshwater bogs, greatly affecting their biological integrity. Purple pitcher plants (Sarracenia rosea) are Gulf Coast pitcher plant bog inhabitants that could be at a disadvantage under this scenario because their pitcher morphology may leave them prone to collection of saline water and sediment after a surge. We investigated the effects of storm surge water salinity and sediment type on S. rosea vitality, plant community structure, and bog soil-water conductivity. Plots (containing ≥1 ramet of S. rosea) were experimentally flooded with fresh or saline water crossed with one of three sediment types (local, foreign, or no sediment). There were no treatment effects on soil-water conductivity; nevertheless, direct exposure to saline water resulted in significantly lower S. rosea cover until the following season when a prescribed fire and regional drought contributed to the decline of all the S. rosea to near zero percent cover. There were also significant differences in plant community structure between treatments over time, reflecting how numerous species increased in abundance and a few species decreased in abundance. However, in contrast to S. rosea, most of the other species in the community appeared resilient to the effects of storm surge. Thus, although the community may be somewhat affected by storm surge, those few species that are particularly sensitive to the storm surge disturbance will likely drop out of the community and be replaced by more resilient species. Depending on the longevity of these biological legacies, Gulf Coastal pitcher plant bogs may be incapable of fully recovering if they become exposed to storm surge more frequently due to climate change.  相似文献

Background: We performed a proof of concept trial to evaluate relative safety and efficacy of Rhodiola rosea (R. rosea) versus sertraline for mild to moderate major depressive disorder.Hypothesis: We hypothesize that R. rosea would have similar therapeutic effects as sertraline but with less adverse events.Study design: Phase II randomized placebo controlled clinical trial.Methods: 57 subjects were randomized to 12 weeks of standardized R. rosea extract, sertraline, or placebo. Changes over time in Hamilton Depression Rating (HAM-D), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Clinical Global Impression Change (CGI/C) scores among groups were examined using mixed-effects models.Results: Modest, albeit statistically non-significant, reductions were observed for HAM-D, BDI, and CGI/C scores for all treatment conditions with no significant difference between groups (p = 0.79, p = 0.28, and p = 0.17, respectively). The decline in HAM-D scores was greater for sertraline (−8.2, 95% confidence interval [CI], −12.7 to −3.6) versus R. rosea (−5.1, 95% CI: −8.8 to −1.3) and placebo (−4.6, 95% CI: −8.6 to −0.6). While the odds of improving (versus placebo) were greater for sertraline (1.90 [0.44–8.20]; odds ratio [95% CI]) than R. rosea (1.39 [0.38–5.04]), more subjects on sertraline reported adverse events (63.2%) than R. rosea (30.0%) or placebo (16.7%) (p = 0.012).Conclusions: Although R. rosea produced less antidepressant effect versus sertraline, it also resulted in significantly fewer adverse events and was better tolerated. These findings suggest that R. rosea, although less effective than sertraline, may possess a more favorable risk to benefit ratio for individuals with mild to moderate depression.  相似文献

Adult Tesseropora rosea (Krauss) and Tetraclitella purpurascens (Wood) are mostly found in the eulittoral (barnacle) zone of rocky seashores in New South Wales. Below this zone most space is occupied by the tube-worm Galeolaria caespitosa (Lamarck) or by various species of macroalgae. Within the eulittoral zone, T. rosea are mostly on sunny areas of rock exposed to relatively strong wave-action. T. purpurascens are present mainly in crevices, caves, and under ledges where there is considerable shade.Cyprids of both species settled on sandstone plates and on experimentally cleared areas in the barnacle and Galeolaria zones. Neither species settled where the substratum was already covered by algae or Galeolaria. No spat of T. purpurascens were found in sunny areas of the barnacle zone. T. rosea, however, settled in cleared substrata in sunny and shaded areas. Neither species settled in the littoral fringe above the upper limit of distribution of adults. On boulders transferred to high levels of the shore during a storm, small T. purpurascens died within a few weeks.Barnacles of both species which had settled in experimentally cleared areas in the Galeolaria zone survived and grew. In these areas some T. purpurascens were killed by being smothered by tube-worms which settled after the barnacles. This probably happens to T. rosea, but was not demonstrated experimentally. In the Galeolaria zone, both species of barnacles were very quickly smothered and killed by macroalgae growing over them, except where these were experimentally removed.Within the barnacle zone, all newly-settled spat of T. purpurascens transferred to sunny sites died within two months, whilst many of those in shaded sites survived. In areas where wave-action was strong, spat of T. rosea survived and grew well in sunny areas, but survived better in the shade. Under a ledge, however, where wave-action was reduced, all the T. rosea in sunny sites, and most of those in shaded sites died within two months; many newly-settled T. purpurascens survived in the shade in this area.The grazing limpet Cellana tramoserica (Sowerby) dislodged and crushed some newly-settled T. rosea and reduced survival in some sunny areas. T. rosea settled preferentially on bare rock and were rarely found on the shells of adult barnacles. Thus, the density of spat was greater where adult barnacles were absent. In contrast, many newly-settled T. purpurascens were found on the shells of adults of their own species in shaded areas; they also settled on cleared rock. Because T. purpurascens tended to settle amongst and on adults, and in crevices and confined areas, they were not much affected by limpets. When newly-settled T. purpurascens were in high densities, they had lower survival than in areas with reduced densities, because of squashing and smothering by each other.The upper and lower limits of vertical distribution (zonation) of these two species of barnacles are determined primarily by the settlement of cyprids. Neither species settled at the highest levels on the shore. Whether this was due to the decreasing time of submersion during high tide towards the top of the shore, or a result of preferences for settlement site is unknown. Even if cyprids were to settle in the littoral fringe, the spat would die very quickly probably as a result of desiccation. Below the barnacle zone, the entire substratum is usually occupied by other sessile species, particularly macroalgae, on which the barnacles do not settle. In experimentally cleared areas below the barnacle zone, or in any naturally cleared areas both species settled, and could survive the physical conditions. Newly-settled spat were, however, overgrown and killed by algae and Galeolaria.Within the barnacle zone, T. purpurascens is restricted to shaded areas because of the inability of newly-settled spat to survive the physical stresses of high temperature and desiccation in sunny habitats. T. rosea appears to be excluded from shaded areas by a combination of the lack of suitable substrata on which to settle, and the effects of reduced water-flow in many crevices and under ledges. T. rosea survived better in areas with strong wave-action and can survive in shaded areas where water-flow is not reduced by the topography of the substratum.  相似文献

Endophytic fungi, which live within host plant tissues without causing any visible symptom of infection, are important mutualists that mediate plant–herbivore interactions. Thrips tabaci (Lindeman) is one of the key pests of onion, Allium cepa L., an economically important agricultural crop cultivated worldwide. However, information on endophyte colonization of onions, and their impacts on the biology of thrips feeding on them, is lacking. We tested the colonization of onion plants by selected fungal endophyte isolates using two inoculation methods. The effects of inoculated endophytes on T. tabaci infesting onion were also examined. Seven fungal endophytes used in our study were able to colonize onion plants either by the seed or seedling inoculation methods. Seed inoculation resulted in 1.47 times higher mean percentage post-inoculation recovery of all the endophytes tested as compared to seedling inoculation. Fewer thrips were observed on plants inoculated with Clonostachys rosea ICIPE 707, Trichoderma asperellum M2RT4, Trichoderma atroviride ICIPE 710, Trichoderma harzianum 709, Hypocrea lixii F3ST1 and Fusarium sp. ICIPE 712 isolates as compared to those inoculated with Fusarium sp. ICIPE 717 and the control treatments. Onion plants colonized by C. rosea ICIPE 707, T. asperellum M2RT4, T. atroviride ICIPE 710 and H. lixii F3ST1 had significantly lower feeding punctures as compared to the other treatments. Among the isolates tested, the lowest numbers of eggs were laid by T. tabaci on H. lixii F3ST1 and C. rosea ICIPE 707 inoculated plants. These results extend the knowledge on colonization of onions by fungal endophytes and their effects on Thrips tabaci.  相似文献

Whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) is a notorious insect pest of many economic important crop plants including cotton, tomato, etc. The main objective of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of new biological control agent to replace toxic chemical pesticides from agro-ecosystem. Clonostachys rosea associated with whitefly and aphid (Aphis gossypii) on cotton plants was isolated and characterised on a morphological and molecular basis. Phylogenetic analysis was also performed based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region. Pathogenicity of C. rosea was evaluated in two concentrations against fourth instar nymphal and adult stages of B. tabaci. The study revealed that C. rosea was highly parasitic against fourth instar nymphs than adults at different spore concentrations. Two isolates of C. rosea were identified in this study, and both were morphologically similar. However, differences were observed in the ITS region of the C. rosea isolates. Our results showed that C. rosea has the prospects to serve as a potential biocontrol agent against economically important insect pests.  相似文献

The effect of aqueous extract from R. rosea root on lifespan and the activity of antioxidant enzymes in budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae have been studied. The supplementation of the growth medium with R. rosea extract decreased survival of exponentially growing S. cerevisiae cells under H2O2-induced oxidative stress, but increased viability and reproduction success of yeast cells in stationary phase. The extract did not significantly affect catalase activity and decreased SOD activity in chronologically aged yeast population. These results suggest that R. rosea acts as a stressor for S. cerevisiae cells, what sensitizes yeast cells to oxidative stress at exponential phase, but induces adaptation in stationary phase cells demonstrating the positive effect on yeast survival without activation of major antioxidant enzymes.  相似文献

The sunn pests (Eurygaster spp.) which are important pests of wheat and barley, can lead to 100% yield loss in the case of an epidemic. This study was conducted to characterize the entomopathogenic fungi, obtained from the sunn pests collected from different overwintering areas of Turkey and determine their pathogenicity. Seventeen Beauveria pseudobassiana, 12 Beauveria bassiana, 16 Cordyceps farinosa, 1 Purpureocillium lilacinum, and 2 Clonostachys rosea species were identified. Pathogenicity tests were performed with three B. pseudobassiana, two B. bassiana, four C. farinosa, and one P. lilacinum isolates. B. pseudobassiana isolates BB34 and AF4 caused 100% death on the 9th day, and another B. pseudobassiana isolate E512 caused 100% death on the 12th day. C. farinosa isolate KOKA2 caused 95.8% death on the 15th day. Ultimately, B. pseudobassiana was determined to be the most prevalent and virulent species on sunn pests.  相似文献
