This paper describes a prey–predator type fishery model with prey dispersal in a two-patch environment, one of which is a free fishing zone and other is a protected zone. The existence of possible steady states, along with their local stability, is discussed. A geometric approach is used to derive the sufficient conditions for global stability of the system at the positive equilibrium. Relative size of the reserve is considered as control in order to study optimal sustainable yield policy. Subsequently, the optimal system is derived and then solved numerically using an iterative method with Runge–Kutta fourth-order scheme. Numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate the importance of marine reserve in fisheries management. It is noted that the marine protected area enables us to protect and restore multi-species ecosystem. The results illustrate that dynamics of the system is extremely interesting if simultaneous effects of a regulatory mechanism like marine reserve is coupled with harvesting effort. It is observed that the migration of the resource, from protected area to unprotected area and vice versa, is playing an important role towards the standing stock assessment in both the areas which ultimately control the harvesting efficiency and enhance the fishing stock up to some extent.  相似文献

Evidence is provided for the existence of the opioid peptide dynorphin-(1–8) in the neurointermediate pituitary of rats. The octapeptide was isolated by immunoadsorption to antibodies directed against porcine dynorphin-(1–13) followed by a variety of chromatographic separation procedures. The identity of the purified material with dynorphin-(1–8) was indicated by the following criteria: comigration with synthetic dynorphin-(1–8) on gelfiltration chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography systems and liberation of a peptide with the same chromatographic behavior as leucine-enkephalin after sequential cleavage with trypsin and carboxypeptidase B.Radioimmunological estimations revealed that dynorphin-(1–8) is a major dynorphin-related opioid peptide in the pituitary of rats.  相似文献

Examples from a variety of taxa demonstrate that under certain circumstances, the exclusion or translocation of ‘problem’ animals is ineffective in resolving human–wildlife conflicts and may even elicit new problems elsewhere. Damage caused by badger setts (burrows) is an important source of human–wildlife conflict in the UK and is commonly managed by excluding badgers from all or part of problem setts. We used records of licences issued for the management of such problems and a novel statistical approach to assess spatiotemporal associations between problem cases in England from 2002 to 2005. We predicted that management at urban badgers' setts, and particularly exclusion of badgers from urban main setts, would give rise to subsequent problems at focal setts and in neighbouring areas. Frequencies of problems occurring at individual setts were similar in urban and rural areas. In areas neighbouring setts subjected to management action, the background frequency of problems was higher in urban than in rural areas, reflecting the occurrence of problems at a higher proportion of urban setts. The frequency of new cases arising at or in the vicinity of managed setts within a critical time period after management action was not significantly different from the background frequency of problems for any combination of land use, sett type and management approach. This finding suggests that the measures currently employed for managing problem setts do not importantly increase the likelihood of problems reoccurring in the same location or emerging nearby.  相似文献

Morningness–eveningness is an individual difference that is related with various traits such as behavioral problems, personality, and health. The aim of the current study is to adopt the Morningness–Eveningness Stability Scale improved (MESSi) which is a novel assessment tool that consists of subscales of morning affect (MA), eveningness (EV), and distinctness (DI) into Turkish. Concurrent validity of the MESSi along with Big five inventory (BIG-5), Subjective alertness level, Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) were analyzed. The scale was administered to 1,076 high school and university students aged 14–47 years (M = 19.49, SD = 3.53). The explanatory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) revealed the three-factor structure of MESSi. According to the concurrent validity result of the MESSi with BIG-5, conscientiousness was found to correlate positively with MA and negatively with EV. Also, extraversion showed a negative correlation with DI and positive correlation with MA. Furthermore, the subjective alertness rating results showed that MA was positively related to alertness in the morning hours and negatively in the evening hours. Also, sleep quality-related results showed that EV and DI are positively related to total PSQI scores and negatively related to MA. In addition, concerning positive affect (PA) and negative affect (NA), MA was positively related with PA and negatively with NA, while DI was negatively related with PA and positively with NA. In overall, MESSi is a valid and reliable instrument and can be used in Turkish students.  相似文献

A detailed assessment of postcranial fossils collected at Balouk Keui (Thrace, Greece) in the mid-19th Century by the naturalist Auguste Viquesnel enabled us to identify the material as pertaining to Palaeotherium sp., cf. P. magnum, which constitutes the easternmost occurrence of the genus during the Eocene. We have constrained the geographic and stratigraphic provenance of the fossil by reassessing information about Viquesnel's itinerary and observations. Although the exact age of the fossil remains uncertain, the occurrence of a palaeothere in the Thrace Basin during the Eocene indicates a wider geographic distribution for the genus, which had previously been restricted to western and central Europe. The palaeothere of Balouk Keui confirms that the palaeogeographic range of this group included the Balkans during the middle–late Eocene. This discovery also shows that at least intermittent land connections between western Europe, Southeast Asia, and perhaps Central Iran facilitated mammalian dispersal during the middle–late Eocene, before the famous Grande Coupure.  相似文献

In the main channel of the Upper Paraná River, four sampling sites were established according to the profile of the bottom. Samples were carried out monthly from July 1993 to February 1995 with a modified Petersen grab. Four species were found at four sites: Potamocaris bifida, P. bidens, P. bidentata and P. tridentata. Canonical correspondence analysis indicated differences in the preferred microhabitats of the Potamocaris species, mainly in regard to sand particle size in the main river channel. Bedform stability was the most important factor affecting the abundance of this community.  相似文献

Aflatoxin M1, a mutagenic and carcinogenic metabolite of aflatoxin B1, occurs in milk from animals fed on food contaminated with some species ofAspergillus. Aiming to investigate the occurrence of AFM in dairy products produced in Portugal. 598 samples of raw milk were analysed during six years (1999–2004). 25 samples of powder milk and 42 traditional fresh cheeses were also analysed. The toxin was extracted using an immunoaffinity column method and quantified by HPLC. AFM1 was detected in 394 (65.8%) of the raw milk samples. Along the analysed period AFM: was detected at a low level (0.005–0.05μg/l) in 54.8% of the samples and at a level ranging from 0.041–0.05 in 2.8% of the samples. From 2001 to 2004, 49 samples (8.2%) were contaminated with levels above the maximum permitted level (>0.051 to 0.08). None of the samples of powder milk and traditional fresh cheese revealed to be contaminated with AFM1.  相似文献

This study used prefecture-level panel data from Japan for the period 2008–2014 to investigate the influence of the 2011 Fukushima nuclear accident on the body mass index (BMI) z-score and obesity rates of children over time. I adopted a difference-in-differences approach and found the following: (1) for the cohort aged 5–7 years in 2010, the BMI z-score and obesity rates in disaster-affected areas were higher than in other areas, although this was not observed for the other cohorts; (2) for the cohort aged 5–7 years in 2010, the influence of the accident persisted even after 3 years; and (3) the differences in the BMI z-score and obesity rate before and after the accident were greater for Fukushima Prefecture than for the other affected areas (Iwate and Miyagi prefectures). I infer that health-conscious parents, whose children had lower BMIs, may have moved from Fukushima, thereby increasing the BMI z-score of the child population living in Fukushima by around 0.05 for the cohort aged 5–7 years. The enforced reduction in physical activity increased the BMI z-score of children living in Fukushima by around 0.19 for that cohort.  相似文献

The aim of the work was to compare the alder pollen seasons in the years 1997–2017 in Sosnowiec. The measurements of pollen concentration were taken with the volumetric method using Burkard’s apparatus. The impact of atmospheric conditions on the daily alder pollen grain concentration, the annual totals, and the duration of pollen seasons were studied. The dependency between each meteorological condition and different features of the alder pollen season was determined by using Pearson’s correlation coefficients, variance analysis with multiple comparison tests, and the linear regression model using backward elimination. It was proven that the temperatures directly preceding the pollination, i.e. the January and February temperatures as well as those from the period from 210 to 180 days preceding the beginning of the season, have the greatest impact on the beginning of the alder pollen season. The value of the daily alder pollen concentration in Sosnowiec showed a positive statistically significant correlation with the air temperature and sunshine duration and a negative correlation with the thickness of the snow cover and air relative humidity. The daily concentration also depended on the type of the weather front, direction of air mass inflow, and the type of the inflowing air mass. The season temperatures and the thermal conditions which were present in the summer of the preceding year impacted the annual totals (SPI) of the alder pollen grains.  相似文献

Background

Although feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline leukemia virus (FeLV) have similar risk factors and control measures, infection rates have been speculated to vary in geographic distribution over North America. Since both infections are endemic in North America, it was assumed as a working hypothesis that their geographic distributions were similar. Hence, the purpose of this exploratory analysis was to investigate the comparative geographical distribution of both viral infections. Counts of FIV (n=17,108) and FeLV (n=30,017) positive serology results (FIV antibody and FeLV ELISA) were obtained for 48 contiguous states and District of Columbia of the United States of America (US) from the IDEXX Laboratories website. The proportional morbidity ratio of FIV to FeLV infection was estimated for each administrative region and its geographic distribution pattern was visualized by a choropleth map. Statistical evidence of an excess in the proportional morbidity ratio from unity was assessed using the spatial scan test under the normal probability model.

Results

This study revealed distinct spatial distribution patterns in the proportional morbidity ratio suggesting the presence of one or more relevant and geographically varying risk factors. The disease map indicates that there is a higher prevalence of FIV infections in the southern and eastern US compared to FeLV. In contrast, FeLV infections were observed to be more frequent in the western US compared to FIV. The respective excess in proportional morbidity ratio was significant with respect to the spatial scan test (p < 0.05).

Conclusions

The observed variability in the geographical distribution of the proportional morbidity ratio of FIV to FeLV may be related to the presence of an additional or unique, but yet unknown, spatial risk factor. Putative factors may be geographic variations in specific virus strains and rate of vaccination. Knowledge of these factors and the geographical distributions of these infections can inform recommendations for testing, management and prevention. However, further studies are required to investigate the potential association of these factors with FIV and FeLV.  相似文献

Transcatheter Aortic Valves rely on the tissue-stent interaction to ensure that the valve is secured within the aortic root. Aortic stenosis presents with heavily calcified leaflets and it has been proposed that this calcification also acts to secure the valve, but this has never been quantified. In this study, we developed an in vitro calcified aortic root model to quantify the role of calcification on the tissue-stent interaction. The in vitro model incorporated artificial calcifications affixed to the leaflets of porcine aortic heart valves. A self-expanding nitinol braided stent was deployed into non-calcified and artificially calcified porcine aortic roots and imaged by micro computed tomography. Mechanical tests were then conducted to dislodge the stent from the aortic root and it was found that, in the presence of calcification, there was a significant increase in pullout force (8.59 ± 3.68 N vs. 2.84 ± 1.55 N p = 0.045), stent eccentricity (0.05 ± 0.01 vs. 0.02 ± 0.01, p = 0.049), and coefficient of friction between the stent and aortic root (0.36 ± 0.12 vs. 0.09 ± 0.05, p = 0.018), when compared to non-calcified roots. This study quantifies for the first time the impact of calcification on the friction between the aortic tissue and transcatheter aortic valve stent, showing the role of calcification in anchoring the valve stent in the aortic root.  相似文献

An alternative to intensify fish production, reducing the environmental impact and production costs are recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). The performance of a RAS was evaluated, as fish growth and water quality conditions, in a culture of Piaractus mesopotamicus reared for ornamental purposes. Two commercial food brands with different protein contents (18%-T1 and 28%-T2), were given to juvenile fishes during an eight weeks period. Growth was measured bi-weekly: standard length (Lp), peak height (A), weight and multiple condition factor (KM). The evaluation of water parameters included: dissolved oxygen, NH3-NH4, pH, NO2, NO3, KH carbonate hardness and PO4. NH3-N rate production was analyzed following Timmons-Ebeling model. Results demonstrated significant differences in weight only, and T2 showed a 7.5% higher value than T1; nevertheless, treatment T1 had a higher KM. In general, water quality values were suitable for growth: OD=T1: 4.23 +/- 1.23; T2: 4.13 +/- 0.86; NH3=T1: 0.02 +/- 0.02; T2: 0.06 +/- 0.10; however, pH was an exception (T1: 6.95 +/- 0.98; T2: 7.11 +/- 1.03), displaying lethal rates (<5) by the fifth week. Systems NH3 removal had a 99.4% to 100% efficiency. Final fish biomass was 22.03kg for T1 and 27.49kg for T2. We concluded that the systems were able to maintain suggested density up to the experimental fifth week. Water quality parameters remained in suitable levels, with the pH exception. Cultured fishes reached their commercial size (10cm) in eight weeks.  相似文献

BackgroundCandida auris is an emerging multidrug-resistant and highly virulent yeast that spreads easily among patients.AimsTo describe the characteristics of candidemia caused by C. auris in the southeast of Spain (Autonomous Community of Valencia – ACV) through a 5-year population-based study.MethodsAn analysis of all the episodes of candidemia diagnosed in the ACV, with approximately 4,500,000 inhabitants, during 2013–2017, was done. Data were obtained from the Epidemiological Surveillance Valencian Network, a network that collects all the microbiological data from the hospitals in the study region.ResultsBased on the records, 1.9% of the isolates recovered from the positive blood cultures (corresponding to 1789 patients) were yeasts. This implies an annual rate of 7.09 cases/100,000 inhabitants. Of the 23 yeast species isolated, Candida albicans was the most frequent (37.3%), showing a higher frequency than Candida parapsilosis (28.4%) and Candida glabrata (15.6%) (p < 0.0001). It is remarkable the emergence of C. auris during 2016 and 2017, as this species became the fourth more prevalent in 2016 (9.2%), and the third in 2017 (15.7%). Fungemia was more common in hospitals with >500 beds (63.3% versus 36.7% in small hospitals) (p < 0.0001), and C. auris was mostly isolated in large hospitals (8.5% versus 0.3%); its incidence was higher in autumn and among the age group of 65–84 years.ConclusionsThe information about the local epidemiology of candidemia is essential in order to decide the best empirical treatment approach. This study reports the novel presence of C. auris in large hospitals. This pathogen has usually resistance to several antifungals and causes severe fungemia, so the results of this work reveal the need to monitor the presence of this species systematically.  相似文献

The composition of the microbial community inhabiting the anoxic coastal sediments of the Bay of Cádiz (southern Spain) was investigated using a molecular approach consisting of PCR cloning and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE), based on 16S rRNA sequences. The total cell count was 1-5 × 10? cells/g sediment and, as determined by catalyzed reporter deposition-fluorescent in situ hybridization (CARD-FISH), the proportion of Bacteria to Archaea was about 70:30. The analysis of 16S-rRNA gene sequences revealed a wide spectrum of microorganisms, which could be grouped into 111 operational taxonomic units (OTUs). Many of the OTUs showed high phylogenetic similarity to microorganisms living in marine sediments of diverse geographic origin. The phylogenetic groups that were predominantly detected were Firmicutes, Deltaproteobacteria, and Gammaproteobacteria, accounting for 23, 15, and 14% of the clones, respectively. Diversity in the domain Archaea was significantly lower than in the domain Bacteria. The majority of the archaeal OTUs belonged to the Crenarchaeota phylum. Since most of the sequences could not be identified precisely at the genus/species level, the functional roles of the microorganisms in the ecosystem could not be inferred. However, seven OTUs affiliated with the Delta- and Epsilonproteobacteria were identified down to the genus level, with all of the identified genera known to occur in sulfate-rich marine environments.  相似文献

The effects of temperature regimes on the radial growth rate of different isolates of Ascochyta lentis and pathogen virulence and host susceptibility were studied in the laboratory and growth chamber using different pathogen isolates, and lentil genotypes with varying levels of resistance to Ascochyta blight. The growth rate of most isolates increased as temperature increased up to 20°C and declined thereafter. In experiment 1, the highest disease severities were observed on cvs. Laird and Eston and the lowest on ILL5588. Mean disease severities were similar from 10 to 20°C but substantially lower at 25°C for all genotypes except ILL5588. In experiment 2, no significant differences were observed between the two mating types, or in their interactions with genotypes and temperatures. The interactions of genotypes with temperature and with isolates indicated that the relative susceptibility of lentil genotypes depended on temperature and on the isolates of A. lentis. These findings indicated that when temperature changes during epidemic development in the field, different isolates could predominate in the pathogen population at different times.  相似文献

BackgroundMiners are frequently exposed to established and potential carcinogens. We aimed to assess cancer incidence in miners relative to the general population and identify high-risk subgroups.MethodsIncident cancers in Western Australian miners (n = 153,922; 86% male) during 1996–2013 were identified. Indirectly standardised incidence ratios (SIRs) were calculated and mixed-effects Poisson models were used to calculate Incidence Rate Ratios (IRRs) to identify high-risk within-cohort subgroups.ResultsCompared with the general population, the overall cancer incidence in miners (n = 4194 cases) was lower for both females (SIR:0.83, 95%CI:0.74–0.92) and males (SIR:0.96, 95%CI:0.93–0.99). Overall, cancer incidence did not differ by employment duration or employment commencement time. Ever-underground work was associated with lung cancer (IRR:1.81, 95%CI:1.11–2.93). Relative to multi-ore miners, IRRs for specific cancers were significantly different when exclusively mining: iron (prostate:0.73, 95%CI:0.56–0.94); gold (lung:1.77, 95%CI:1.04–3.01 and colorectum:1.70, 95%CI:1.16–2.51); and other metals (urinary tract:1.85, 95%CI:1.03–3.31 and leukaemia:0.36, 95%CI:0.14–0.96).ConclusionWorking underground emerged as a significant determinant of lung cancer risk in our contemporary mining cohort. Increased risks of lung, prostate, colorectal and urinary tract cancers and leukaemia were identified in miners of specific ores. These findings underline the importance of continued surveillance of the health and exposures of this relatively young cohort of miners.  相似文献

The dynamics of meteorological parameters in Siberia and the Altai–Sayan region in the 20th–21st centuries are analyzed. Significant trends characterizing the dynamics of the average temperature, precipitation, and standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI) are revealed. Growing wildfire frequency in the area under study since the end of the 20th century has been detected. The annual variation of wildfires has a phase coincidence with the dynamics of mean temperatures, positively correlates with climate dryness, and negatively correlates with averaged precipitation data. An abrupt increase in wildfire frequency has been observed in the late 20th–early 21st centuries. The spatial redistribution of wildfires in the Altai–Sayan region in the early 21st century is revealed.  相似文献

Despite all technological innovations in esophageal stent design over the past 20 years, the association between the stent design’s mechanical behavior and its effect on the clinical outcome has not yet been thoroughly explored. A parametric numerical model of a commercially available esophageal bioresorbable polymeric braided wire stent is set up, accounting for stent design aspects such as braiding angle, strut material, wire thickness, degradation and friction between the wires comprising a predictive tool on the device’s mechanical behavior. Combining this tool with complex multilayered numerical models of the pathological in vivo stressed, actively contracting and buckling esophagus could provide clinicians and engineers with a patient-specific window into the mechanical aspects of stent-based esophageal intervention. This study integrates device and soft tissue mechanics in one computational framework to potentially aid in the understanding of the occurrence of specific symptoms and complications after stent placement.  相似文献
