雄蕊运动指雄蕊在自身能量支持下发生的主动运动,不包括雄蕊在访花者触碰下造成的被动位移。该文总结了雄蕊的应激运动、快速猛烈弹射、缓慢运动以及级联运动等4种主要类型,分析了这些运动类型的系统分布及繁殖适应意义等方面的研究进展。雄蕊的应激运动由访花者或其他外力诱发,可能起到促进散粉和实现繁殖保障的作用;雄蕊快速猛烈的弹射运动可将花粉猛然撒向空中或访花者身上,促进了花粉的风媒或虫媒散布;缓慢运动的雄蕊可能通过在不同花期改变雄蕊的空间位置和雌雄异位程度来调节繁殖策略,或主动将雄蕊花药移至特定部位(如柱头表面)实现自交;雄蕊逐一、依次发生的级联运动较为复杂,主要分布在刺莲花科、梅花草科、旱金莲科和芸香科中,目前还缺乏实验研究;但根据"花粉呈现理论"以及其他类型的雄蕊运动研究结果,雄蕊的级联运动可以将花粉分批呈现给不同的传粉者,通过不同传粉者的分别传粉来提高花粉的输出;而且可避免已散粉雄蕊对即将散粉雄蕊的干扰,同时可能也降低了雌雄功能干扰和(或)花内自交。在芸香(Ruta graveolens)中,级联运动之后的雄蕊还会在花末期再同时向花中央运动;这种多向、多次运动方式是目前发现的最复杂的雄蕊运动类型。雄蕊运动领域值得今后开展进一步实验研究的方向主要有:1)雄蕊运动尤其是级联运动对雌雄功能干扰(性别间干扰)、雄蕊与雄蕊的"性别内干扰"等植物繁殖格局的影响;2)雄蕊运动与雌雄异熟、雌雄异位等花部特征的相互作用;3)雄蕊运动复杂类型的生理与发育机制。  相似文献

When matings are frequent and received sperm are digested, hermaphrodites should trade sperm when mating. We investigated sperm trading in the flatworm Schmidtea (Dugesia) polychroa and manipulated mating interests to investigate its possible causes. In 106 mating pairs consisting of nonisolated individuals, no sperm donation in either direction (35%) and reciprocal exchange (38%) were more common than expected by chance, whereas unilateral transfer (27%) was less frequent, confirming sperm trading. The amount of sperm donated depended on the availability of self-sperm, not on the amount received. Animals with more allosperm from previous matings had more self-sperm and consequently donated more. This suggests that sperm digestion boosts sperm production. In a second experiment, 'mixed-interest' pairs consisting of a nonisolated (N) and an isolated individual (I), NxI, were compared with IxI and NxN pairs. Whereas IxI pairs were eager and NxN reluctant to mate, NxI pairs showed an intermediate likelihood of mating. Whereas NxN pairs traded sperm, the other two groups did not. The change in behaviour in N individuals in the NxI treatment suggests precopulatory assessment and mating in relation to phenotypic mate quality. Isolated individuals are attractive, presumably because they donate large sperm clumps unconditionally and contain fewer allosperm, implying reduced sperm competition. The reduced reluctance in N individuals to mate with, and to inseminate, previously isolated partners suggests that female quality is an important factor in male sperm donation decisions. Protein folding disorders comprise a rapidly growing group of diseases that involve virtually every organ system and affect individuals of all ages. Their principal pathology is the inability of a protein to acquire or maintain its physiological three-dimensional structure. In cells, this generally results in one of three outcomes: accumulation of misfolded protein aggregates, cell death, or recognition by cellular quality control machinery and rapid degradation. Large-scale screening efforts to identify and design small molecules that either repair the folding defect or enable the protein to escape degradation have been encouraging. However, most compounds identified to date restore only a small fraction of molecules to the normal folding pathway, and hence are relatively poor therapeutic candidates. Results published by Wang et al. in this issue of the Biochemical Journal show that, for mutant forms of two ABC (ATP-Binding-Cassette) transporters, P-glycoprotein and CFTR (cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator), modest correction of trafficking by single agents can be additive when multiple compounds are used in combination. These findings raise the intriguing possibility that corrector molecules acting at different steps along the folding pathway might provide a multidrug approach to human protein folding disorders.  相似文献

The spectacularly successful race over the past three years to place our understanding of the circadian clockwork of mammals into a molecular framework is beginning to yield the cardinal example of the molecular-genetic control of behaviour. This perspective describes recent evidence for the conservation of a double-loop, autoregulatory feedback mechanism across the best understood eukaryotic circadian systems, and discusses how these findings may illuminate some long-standing puzzles concerning our subliminal sense of circadian time.  相似文献

Hermaphroditism can lead to both intra‐ and intersexual conflict between male and female gender functions. However, the effect that such gender conflicts have on pollination efficiency has seldom been investigated. By artificially reducing the number of available male gametes on an individual, we quantified whether male interference with pollination efficiency occurs in the self‐compatible, moth‐pollinated orchid Satyrium longicauda. We partially emasculated S. longicauda inflorescences and compared pollination success and fecundity in these plants to intact controls. Pollen in both groups of plants was colour‐labelled so that its dispersal by pollinators could be tracked directly in the field. Intact flowers on partially emasculated inflorescences exported more pollen and received more cross‐pollen and less self‐pollen than those on intact inflorescences. Proportion of fruit set per plant was similar between the two treatments; however, fruits on partially emasculated plants had proportionally more viable seeds than those on intact controls. These results provide empirical evidence that male interference with pollination efficiency can occur in a hermaphroditic plant and that such interference can compromise fecundity. The most likely mechanism for such male interference is competition for placement on the proboscis of hawkmoth pollinators. Consequently, male competition for siring success may influence the evolution of sexual systems in hermaphroditic pollinator‐dependent plants.  相似文献
