Chick embryos were hypophysectomized by partial decapitation at the stage of 42 h of incubation and grafted with a hypophysis from a 12-days-old donor embryo on the chorio-allantoic membrane at 9 1/2 days. Two days later, their ovary was removed for organ culture and its oestradiol secretion rate was compared to that of the ovary of hypophysectomized, non grafted control embryos. The oestradiol secretion rate in the grafted embryos was almost twice that in the hypophysioprivic embryos and in the range of that in normal embryos. This result suggests that the hypophysis controls oestradiol secretion of the ovary in the 11 1/2-days-old chick embryo.  相似文献

The investigations showed that differentiation and functional activity of gonadotropocytes in ducks at different phases of a sexual cycle change in complete conformity with the quantitative changes of gonadotropic hormones in the hypophysis and peripheral blood. Intensification of the function of gonadotropocytes and an increase in the content of gonadotropins in blood and hypophysis correspond to activation of gonads. The refracteriness of gonads is accompanied by involution of gonadotropocytes and inhibition of synthesis and secretion of gonadotropins in them.  相似文献

Summary An ultrastructural study of gonadotropic pituitary cells was performed in estrogen-treated pregnant rats. Estradiol-treatment on Day 10 of pregnancy led to signs of ovulation or luteinization on Day 12 in 50% of the animals.Degranulation was observed in the FSH and LH cells of estrogen-responsive rats, whereas in the unresponsive group, the same cells were intensely granulated. The FSH cells of the control group showed signs of degranulation which could be correlated with follicular development. LH cells were sometimes degranulated.The role played by FSH and LH cells in the triggering of ovulation and luteinization by estrogen in the pregnant rat is discussed in the light of the ultrastructural observations.This work was financed by the DGRST, contract no 74.7.0030The authors wish to acknowledge the technical assistance of Mr. R. The effects of PGF2alpha infusion in a dose of 25 micrograms/min for 5 hours on serum levels of estradiol-17beta, progesterone, LH, FSH, TSH and prolactin, and on the pituitary hormone responsiveness to LRH and TRH were studied in 10 apparently healthy cycling women in the mid-luteal phase. No systematic alteration was seen in the pituitary and ovarian hormone levels during PGF2alpha infusion, and the pituitary hormone responses to releasing hormones were unaffected. Ovarian steroid production increased in response to increased gonadotropin levels after LRH injection during PGF2alpha administration. These results confirm that PGF2alpha is not luteolytic in humans and no apparent relationship between PGF2alpha and pituitary hormone secretion exists.  相似文献

We investigated the effect of surgical castration of male rats on the binding of [Tyr(125I)10]VIP to receptors on the anterior pituitary gland, superior mesenteric artery, brain, liver, and prostate gland. In anterior pituitary membranes the maximum number of VIP binding sites was increased whereas binding affinity was decreased 24 hours following castration. In particular, the high affinity equilibrium dissociation constant (KD) increased from 0.13±0.02 nM (mean±SEM) to 0.67±0.07 nM and the maximum number of high affinity binding sites (Bmax) increased from 71±9 to 470±112 fmol/mg protein. No significant change was observed in the other tissues. Anesthesia or sham operation did not alter the anterior pituitary VIP receptor binding parameters. The changes in the VIP receptor 24 hours after castration were prevented by prior injection of testosterone. These findings demonstrate tissue-selective alterations to the anterior pituitary VIP receptor by castration that are likely mediated by withdrawal of testosterone.  相似文献
