The best‐known Silurian bioevent occurred at the end of the Wenlock: the lundgreni event, together with the nassa‐ludensis crisis, was established among planktic graptolites. The East Baltic data show several peaks of high diversity (especially triangulatus, turriculatus, scanicus zones) and three levels of low diversity of graptolites (antennularius, radians, ludensis zones). These are more or less coincident with sea‐level changes. Energetic innovation of the shallow shelf corals started in the early Silurian. The late Wenlock regression seems not to affect them seriously but the late Silurian decline coincides with the aridization of the climate and a regression of the shelf seas. The Agnatha had strong radiations in the Wenlock (ludensis Zone) and Ludlow (leintwardinensis Zone), the fishes in the Pridoli. Many Silurian vertebrates were long‐ranging and extinction rate was relatively low; only at the late leintwardinensis level and in the latest Ludlow did considerable extinctions occur.  相似文献

A cladistic, phylogenetic analysis of the Retiolitidae, using 18 genera and parataxa and 23 characters, reveals that two distinct clades can be recognized within this family, as well as a primitive stem-group that includes the genus Pseudoretiolites . One of the derived clades includes Pseudo-plegmatograptus, Stomatograptus and Retiolites , which are assigned to the revised subfamily Retiolitinae. The other derived clade, the early part of which shows a paraphyletic relationship, includes the remaining known genera Rotaretiofites s.l., Paraplectograptus s.l., Sokolovograptus, Plectograptus, Agastograptus, Spinograptus, Gothograptus, Eisenackograptus, Neogothograptus, Semiplectograptus, Plectodinemagraptus and Holoretiolites . These genera are all included within an expanded Plectograptinae. The biostratigraphic distribution of these taxa suggests that these two clades diverged from a Pseudoretiolites-like ancestor in mid-Aeronian time.  相似文献

The distribution of altered volcanic ash layers (K-bentonites) and Telychian chitinozoans in four East Baltic drill core sections are compared. This information is integrated with graptolite and conodont biozonations to give a precise correlation chart using four different stratigraphical tools: K-bentonite-based chemostratigraphy; chitinozoan biostratigraphy; graptolite biostratigraphy; and, conodont biostratigraphy. Thickness variations in the K-bentonites suggest that the source of the volcanic ash was to the west and north-west.  相似文献

Abstract: The retiolitid graptolite Reticuloplectograptus serpaglii gen. et sp. nov. from the Gorstian, lower Ludlow, has been found in two localities: the Bartoszyce borehole of Poland (Baltica), and the Bykoš section, Barrandian, Czech Republic (PeriGondwanan Europe). The Polish material is isolated and was studied under the SEM. The main characters of Reticuloplectograptus are similar to those of Plectograptus: an asymmetrical ancora, simple ancora umbrella with an incompletely developed rim and parallel ventral walls with mid‐ventral lists. The paired genicular processes of the new species are similar to but much wider than those of Plectograptus trijunctus and Plectograptus robustus. The main differences between the new genus and Plectograptus are the dense ancora sleeve wall and small proximal lateral orifices of the former. These primitive characters suggest that Reticuloplectograptus might be ancestral to genera with strong reduction in the proximal end, such as Plectograptus, Valentinagraptus and Kirkigraptus. However, Reticuloplectograptus appeared stratigraphically later than Plectograptus, indicating that this aspect of retiolitid evolution is more complicated, needing further study.  相似文献

Abstract:  Isolated material of 13 graptolite species from the Aeronian (middle Llandovery) Lituigraptus convolutus Biozone is described. A considerable amount of late astogenetic peridermal thickening is revealed in Normalograptus scalaris and Rivagraptus bellulus . As a result, in the former, thecal morphology is modified from climacograptid to pseudoglyptograptid; in both species, the virgella becomes robust. In Metaclimacograptus minimus and Me. sp., it is shown that the dorsal metathecal wall forms the genicular hood, whereas in N. nikolayevi , the infragenicular wall of the succeeding theca forms the distal thecal apertural margin. Pribylograptus argutus exhibits typical pribylograptid thecae along the length of the available rhabdosome fragments. Characters differentiating Campograptus lobiferus from C. harpago include the greater dorso-ventral width and more rapid increase in dorso-ventral width of the former and the greater recurving of distal thecae and presence of thecal spines/processes on all thecae of the latter. Lituigraptus convolutus has rastritiform thecae proximally; thecal apertures throughout the rhabdosome are crescentic and laterally expanded.  相似文献

Abstract:  The taxonomy and biostratigraphy of the Aeronian graptoloid graptolites of the Tanezzuft Formation (Murzuq Basin and Al Qarqaf Arch area) is presented and discussed with respect to their palaeoenvironmental setting and palaeobiogeographical links. The gregarius-libycus , ' leptotheca ', convolutus and sedgwickii assemblage biozones and tenuis Subzone are recognized and correlated with the generalized zonal scheme and with graptoloid successions in peri-Gondwanan Europe. The Rhuddanian/Aeronian boundary is tentatively placed at the base of the gregarius-libycus Biozone. Telychian faunas have not been identified. Fourteen of the 23 species recorded herein belong to the middle Aeronian convolutus Biozone assemblage. The overall low diversity may be the result of inhabiting unstable, occasionally turbulent and/or oxic environments. The lowest diversity, but with abundant graptoloid rhabdosomes, is observed in proximal silty and sandy deposits. The presence of ' Paraclimacograptus' libycus suggests biogeographical links to Aeronian graptolite faunas of Jordan and South America. The convolutus Zone assemblage is very similar to the coeval faunas of the Saudi Arabian Qusayba shales. The occurrence of several species endemic to northern and north-western Gondwana and peri-Gondwana provides further evidence for a distinct palaeoclimatic/palaeolatitudinal control on graptolite distribution.  相似文献

This vesiculosus Biozone assemblage of chemically-isolated graptolites from the Orenburg District of Russia was obtained from limestones associated with pillow lavas of the Sakmara Formation of Silurian–Early Devonian age. It comprises 30 species, of which 24 are described. Nine are new, one is a new subspecies, and eight are left under open nomenclature. The assemblage is unique in its diversity of minute biserial graptolites referable to the genera ' Glyptograptus ', Normalograptus , Sudburigraptus , and Metaclimacograptus ; and is unusual in that well-preserved graptolite faunas are rare at this stratigraphical level, which is fixed by the occurrence of Cystograptus vesiculosus (Nicholson) s.l. and Paraclimacograptus innotatus (Nicholson). The following new forms are described: ' Glyptograptus ' tamariscus praecursor subsp. nov., G. mazovoensis sp. nov., G. nikitini sp. nov., G. pavlinovi sp. nov., G. telarius sp. nov., G. zimai sp. nov., Normalograptus legrandi sp. nov., N. melchini sp. nov., N. sobolevskayae sp. nov., and Metaclimacograptus bjerreskovae sp. nov. Five evolutionary lineages are defined within the ' Glyptograptus ' tamariscus (Nicholson) plexus, modifying and extending the pioneer work of Packham (1962). The diverse ' Glyptograptus ' faunas are considered to be a replacement for the Normalograptus fauna which peaked in the late Ordovician and early Silurian. Metaclimacograptus , although reasonably diverse in its speciation, exhibits a conservative style of evolution with little fundamental change throughout the Llandovery. It is suggested that cortical bandages have species-specific dimensions and micro-features. Some problematical micro- and ultrastructural features are described, notably fibrillar textures, parallel to the fusellar margins, in several species.  相似文献

The succession of 38 upper Llandovery–lower Wenlock chitinozoan taxa from graptolitic horizons in the Banwy River section (Powys, Wales) is described. Five new species are named: Bursachitina nestorae Conochitina leviscapulae Conochitina mathrafalensis Belonechitina cavei Belonechitina meifodensis . A further ten taxa are described under open nomenclature. Seven chitinozoan biozones are recognized in the Banwy River section, three of which ( Cingulochitina bouniensis Conochitina acuminata Salopochitina bella ) are new. The base of each biozone is correlated with the graptolite biostratigraphical scheme as follows: Angochitina longicollis Biozone — upper spiralis Biozone; Conochitina acuminata Biozone — lowermost lapworthi Biozone; Margachitina banwyensis Biozone — upper lapworthi Biozone; Margachitina margaritana Biozone — lowermost insectus Biozone; Cingulochitina bouniensis Biozone — upper murchisoni Biozone; Salopochitina bella Biozone — upper firmus Biozone. The succession of chitinozoan biozones in the Banwy River section is compared with that in other sections which have graptolite biostratigraphical control. This has highlighted the following: (1) the correlation of the base of the dolioliformis Biozone with the graptolite biozonation is imprecise; (2) E. dolioliformis is recorded only from levels after the first A. longicollis in Sweden (although this may reflect previously unrecognized synonymies); (3) the longicollis Biozone may be diachronous, its base correlating with levels low in the Telychian in Sweden, Norway and Estonia and with the upper Telychian spiralis Biozone in Wales and the Prague Basin; (4) data herein and from the Prague Basin indicate that the base of the margaritana Biozone correlates with a level low in the insectus Biozone.  相似文献

Well preserved middle to upper Silurian (Wenlock–Ludlow) graptolites from Bolivia are described for the first time. Generally monospecific graptolite faunas, of species largely endemic to South America, are found in a few levels in the lower part of the Kirusillas, Rio Carrasco and Uncía formations. The oldest identified level yields specimens of Pristiograptus praedeubeli (Jaeger) and is referred to the upper Wenlock. Younger faunas belong to the Ludlow and include Saetograptus , Monograptus and Neodiversograptus specimens. These may be referred to the Gorstian (lower Ludlow). The fauna includes Saetograptus argentinus robustus ssp. nov. and Monograptus bolivianus sp. nov.  相似文献

Isolated material of Ludlow (Upper Silurian) retiolitid graptolites are described from isolated material in theJaeger collection of the Museum für Naturkunde (Humboldt Universität Berlin, Germany). This material from glacial erratic boulders of northern Germany has never been published, even though it yields important structural information for retiolitid taxonomy. The astogeny and formation of the clathrial and reticular lists ofNeogothograptus andHoloretiolites rhabdosomes is discussed in some detail. New species includeNeogothograptus ornatus n. sp. andNeogothograptus eximinassa n. sp. Hermann Jaeger recognized both species as new and named them in his collection, but not publish the material.Neogothograptus thorsteinssoni Lenz &;Kozlowska-Dawidziuk andNeogothograptus romani Koz?owska-Dawidziuk have been recognized for the first time in north German glacial erratic boulders.  相似文献

A specimen ofNormalograptus scalaris (Hisinger) from the Llandovery of Dalarna, Sweden, shows a highly asymmetrical rhabdosome in which one stipe was abandoned at an early stage in the growth of the colony. The surface of the rhabdosome is thickly covered by cortical tissue, but the remaining dorsal side of the second stipe is left free. Even though the symmetry of the colony is strongly distorted, it survived for a considerable time. It is suggested that this unusual development involved genetic control of cortical tissue deposition in the graptolite colony.   相似文献

本文描述湖北宜昌、兴山志留纪兰多维列世艾隆期蚜头虫类三叶虫Latiproetus latilimbatus(Grabau,1925)和Latiproetus tenuis Chang,1974的新材料.Latiproetus Lu,1962的有效性长期多有争论,通过新材料研究确认,该属和Prantlia P(r)ibyl,1946的区别在于其较短的鞍前区,向前收缩较少的头鞍,较微弱的尾肋沟和间肋沟,并不具鞍前区横脊.该属和Astroproetus Begg,1939的区别在于其较深的S1,清晰的S2,较小的活动颊刺,及宽而清晰的尾边缘.因此,笔者认为Latiproetus应为有效属.  相似文献

A succession of biotic and geochemical changes that occurred during the Cyrtograptus lundgreni Event (Late Wenlock) have been recorded from the 'pelagic' black-shales in the Goni section, eastern mid-Sardinia, Italy. The studied interval encompasses the Cyrtograptus rigidus to Pristiograptus dubius-Gothograptus nassa zones. The fossil association includes graptolites, chitinozoans and microplankton i.e. probable linings of agglutinated foraminifera and radiolaria capsular membranes. Analysis of the chitinozoan distribution revealed a succession of several chitinozoan associations with low species diversity and dominated by opportunistic species. Three chitinozoan faunal turnovers and three extinction events have been recorded. Two of them coincide with graptolite extinctions whereas one probably is of local significance. Disappearance of the chitinozoan and microplankton associations occurred during four consecutive graptolite zones. Geochemical data (trace elements analysis) showed significantly higher (up to c. 100%) values for Co and Cd in the sedimentary organic matter (SOM) than in the whole rock samples. Possible relationships between peaks of metal enrichment, the major faunal changes among chitinozoans, extinction events among chitinozoans and graptolites and, to a certain extent, oceanic events may be inferred. The first extinction datum is older that those occurring in Gotland, Sweden and Thüringen, Germany and is so far considered to be of local significance. The second extinction datum of Sardinia can be matched with Datum 1 of Gotland and Thüringen. A close correlation between the third extinction datum of Sardinia and Datum 2 of Thüringen and Gotland reinforces the importance of these events at global scale.  相似文献

The late Gorstian to early Ludfordian hemipelagic succession of the south‐eastern part of the Prague Synform preserves a rich fossil record dominated by 28 species of planktic graptoloids associated with pelagic myodocopid ostracods, pelagic and nektobenthic orthocerid cephalopods, epibyssate bivalves, nektonic phyllocarids, rare dendroid graptolites, brachiopods, crinoids, trilobites, sponges and macroalgae. Faunal dynamics have been studied with particular reference to graptolites. The early Ludfordian leintwardinensis graptolite extinction Event manifests itself as a stepwise turnover of a moderate diversity graptolite fauna rather than an abrupt destruction of a flourishing biota. The simultaneous extinction of the spinose saetograptids Saetograptus clavulus, Saetograptus leintwardinensis and the rare S. sp. B. at the top of the Sleintwardinensis Zone was preceded by a short‐term acme of S. clavulus. Cucullograptus cf. aversus and C. rostratus vanished from the fossil record in the lower part of the Bohemograptus tenuis Biozone. No mass proliferation of Bohemograptus has been observed in the postextinction interval. Limited indigenous speciation gave rise to Pseudomonoclimacis kosoviensis and Pseudomonoclimacis cf. dalejensis. Egregiograptus (the only novel element of cryptic origin) made its earliest occurrence in association with the latest cucullograptids. A postextinction graptolite assemblage of moderate diversity, composed for the most part of long‐ranging taxa, persisted through the middle and upper tenuis Biozone until new rediversification in the Neocucullograptus inexpectatus Biozone. Unlike the graptoloids, the planktic, epiplanktic, nektonic and nektobenthic shelly fauna did not suffer significant extinction in the early Ludfordian. The Gorstian–Ludfordian boundary is placed at the lowest occurrence of S. leintwardinensis in spite of the very modest graptolite record available from the Ludfordian GSSP where no graptolites occur below the basal bed of the Lower Leintwardine Formation. Elsewhere, the Gorstian–Ludfordian boundary has been placed at the base of the Saetograptus linearis Biozone which has been considered roughly correlative with the leintwardinensis Biozone. Indeed, our morphometric study places the worldwide biozonal index species S. linearis in synonymy with Sleintwardinensis and thus considerably enhances the biostratigraphical utility of the latter index species. Pseudomonoclimacis antiqua sp. nov. is described.  相似文献

The early Telychian graptolite extinctions discussed by Loydell in the Stimulograptus utilis Sub-zone agree completely with the predicted consequences of a secundo–primo event, the first to be identified. The event would have included brief inhibitions in vertical circulation, causing a drop in primary planktic productivity from an already low level and causing extinctions; less well-oxygenated deep waters would enhance preservation of organic-walled fossils. The succeeding primo episode would instigate more vigorous vertical circulation with increased primary planktic productivity and higher downward transport of oxygen.  相似文献

Present application of 87Sr/86Sr chemostratigraphy to detailed stratigraphical tasks is limited by inaccurate calibration of the general seawater strontium curve to absolute as well as to relative time scales. For this reason, refinement of the general seawater strontium curve has been suggested, using mainly clearly defined global boundary stratotype sections. This study reports the first 87Sr/86Sr data from the global Silurian/Devonian boundary stratotype section and fills an existing 1-Ma gap in available data. Generally, the data from the stratotype fit the range interpolated from published 87Sr/86Sr data of the general curve, but the slight differences may suggest an existence of a high-order oscillation near the Silurian/Devonian boundary. Higher 87Sr/86Sr values in the Devonian part of boundary bed 20 (20-beta) may indicate an exotic material influx of recycled sediment.  相似文献

The proximal development of Parisograptus Chen and Zhang is described from three–dimensionally preserved specimens. The unique development features an origin of proximal thecae like a string of pearls vertically upon each other on the reverse side of the rhabdosome with the dorsal sides of the initial stipes placed side by side. The development differs strongly from that found in the superficially similar Arienigraptus in which the first thecal pairs grow downwards side by side, even though the rhabdosome shapes are quite similar. It represents a first step towards the development of a completely biserial rhabdosome and eventually leads to the biserial, monopleural glossograptids.  相似文献

The age of the Silurian “Lower Red Beds” (LRBs), which occur widely in South China, has long been controversial because of the scarcity of index fossils. Here, we report a fauna with abundant trilobites from the LRBs in Wuhan, Middle Yangtze region, consisting of Aulacopleura (Paraaulacopleura) pijiazhaiensis, ‘Encrinuroidesyichangensis, Gaotania hubeiensis, Hyrokybe gaotanensis, Japonoscutellum yichangense, Latiproetus latilimbatus, and Ptilillaenus lojopingensis. These trilobites are common in the Leijiatun, upper Xiangshuyuan, Shihniulan, and Lojoping formations in the Upper Yangtze region, and belong to the middle to upper Aeronian Ptilillaenus or ‘Encrinuroides’–PtilillaenusLatiproetus assemblages. The discovery of this trilobite assemblage suggests that the LRBs are probably partly of middle–late Aeronian age in the Middle Yangtze region. Thus, the lower boundary of the LRBs is likely diachronous in the Yangtze region, ranging from the middle–late Aeronian to the early Telychian. The discovery of the Ptilillaenus assemblage in the Wuhan LRBs expands the paleogeographic distribution of this assemblage and provides evidence of deeper depositional environment of the LRBs in the study area versus shallow waters in other areas of the Yangtze region.  相似文献
