An old find of a graptolite from the Eifelian Jemelle Formation, combined with the recent discovery of an exceptionally well-preserved specimen from the Upper Frasnian (Matagne Formation), allow documentation of the geologically oldest and youngest dendroid fossils from the Devonian of Belgium. Both are ascribed to the long-ranging genus Callograptus (Acanthograptidae). These records enlarge the sparse knowledge of graptolite diversity and occurrences along the southern margin of Laurussia during the mid-Paleozoic. In Belgium, Devonian dendroids are exclusively known from the Dinant Synclinorium. The Devonian dendroid faunas previously reported from the Eifelian, Givetian and Frasnian of the Ardenne–Rhenish massifs (Belgium and Germany) are of low diversity (one to five species per locality). The specimens, generally inedaquatelly preserved, were ascribed to the genera Callograptus, Dictyonema, Palaeodictyota?, and Ruedemannograptus? In these massifs, Carboniferous dendroids are only known from the Viséan (Moliniacian) Denée Konservat-Lagerstätte. Other but undocumented reports of dendroids (and rhabdopleurids) are from the historical type area of the Tournaisian Stage (Tournai area, Brabant Parautochthon). Rhabdopleuridae from the Viséan–Serpukhovian of the Campine Basin (Turnhout borehole) remain incompletely known in the absence of the previously described material.  相似文献

Forty-four ostracod species are recognised from the upper part of the Eifelian to the base of the Famennian of the Djebel Mech Irdane, Bou Tchrafine and El Atrous sections, in the Tafilalt. The majority are in open nomenclature, and one is new: Tubulibairdia tafilaltensis nov. sp. Ostracods belong principally to the Eifelian Mega-Assemblage and they are generally indicative of poorly oxygenated relatively deep marine environments below storm wave base. However, in the base of the Famennian of the Bou Tchrafine section, ostracods belong to the Myodocopid Mega-Assemblage indicative of strong hypoxic water conditions. They confirm that the hypoxic water conditions linked to the “Upper Kellwasser Horizon”, subsisted in North Africa, in the extreme base of the Famennian. Twenty-four ostracod species are recognized in the Djebel Mech Irdane Eifelian/Givetian stratotype, where the most important change in the ostracod fauna is related to the 40 cm-thick level of grey silty-marl located 10 cm below the boundary. However, this change is not indicative of an extinction event at this level. Three zones established on ostracods are recognized in the Frasnian and in the base of the Famennian of the Tafilalt.  相似文献

This article concerns the study of the ostracods of the Upper Pliocene-Lower Pleistocene sedimentary deposits cropping out along the south-eastern coast of the Cape Bon Peninsula (Tunisia, Hammamet region, Sidi Khelas section). Fourteen samples were taken along a thirty-two-meters thick sedimentary silico-clastic series. Seventy species of ostracods belonging to twenty-four genera were found. The autochthonous association, which originally lived in an environment located in the infralittoral and upper circalittoral stages of the benthic marine domain, is cyclically affected by inputs from the more superficial environments due to the presence of relatively well-developed lagoon and/or estuary environments in the surrounding coastal areas. Within the ostracod association, the presence of Bythocythere turgida – a true “northern guest” – is particularly significant. This species indicates that these sediments were deposited during the cold phases of the Early Pleistocene. Among the ostracods found, those belonging to the families Trachyleberididae, Hemicytheridae and Bythocytheridae, which are dominant and include particularly significant species from the environmental and paleoclimatic point of view, are systematically recorded and commented on. Some species that are probably new have been described and photographed, but are currently left in open nomenclature because of how few specimens have been found.  相似文献

In the Namur-Dinant Basin (Belgium), the last Atrypida and Pentamerida originate from the top of the Upper Palmatolepis rhenana Zone (Late Frasnian). Within this biozone, their representatives belong to the genera Costatrypa, Desquamatia (Desquamatia), Radiatrypa, Spinatrypa (Spinatrypa), Spinatrypina (Spinatrypina?), Spinatrypina (Exatrypa), Waiotrypa, Iowatrypa and Metabolipa. No representative of these orders occurs within the Palmatolepis linguiformis Zone. The disappearance of the last pentamerids, mostly confined to reefal ecosystems, is clearly related to the end of the edification of the carbonate mounds; it precedes shortly the atrypid one. This event, resulting from a transgressive episode, which induces a progressive and dramatic deterioration of the oxygenation conditions, takes place firstly in the most distal zones of the Namur-Dinant Basin (southern border of the Dinant Synclinorium; Lower P. rhenana Zone). It is only recorded within the Upper P. rhenana Zone in the Philippeville Anticlinorium, the Vesdre area, and the northern flank of the Dinant Synclinorium. It would seem that the terebratulids were absent during the Famennian in this basin, probably due to inappropriate facies. Among the 13 species described or briefly discussed (Palmatolepis hassi to Upper P. rhenana zones), Pseudoatrypa godefroidi nov. sp. and Spinatrypina (Exatrypa) marmoris nov. sp. are proposed as new.  相似文献

Two new specimens of the rare tabulate coralAlveolites megastomus Steininger 1849 are described from the lower Middle Devonian (Eifelian) of the Eifel Limestone Synclinorium (Rheinisches Schiefergebirge/Germany). One specimen originates from the Freilingen Formation of the Dollendorf Syncline; it is the first record from the Upper Eifelian of the Rheinisches Schiefergebirge. The second specimen comes from the upper Junkerberg Formation (Middle Eifelian) of the Prüm Syncline being the first proof in this Formation. The state of conservation of the skeletal microstructure of both coralla is described and discussed.  相似文献

At the end of Namurian A, in Eurameria, we see agreat change in the composition of the flora, probably instigated by a great modification in the climatic conditions. This flora adapted to very humid places persist during whole the Westphalian and up to the end of Stephanian where it is relayed by a mesoxerophytic flora of which the most typical elements are the Coniferales of the family Lebachiaceae. This «autunian flora is usualy considered as subsequent to the stephanian hygrophytic flora and as the transition to the permian flora which is determined by a new modification of the general climatic conditions. Some observations about the macroflora and about the microflora lead to prove the coexistence of hygrophytic, mesophytic and mesoxerophytic floras, not only during the upper Stephanian but also during Westphalian and Namurian B and C. So, from Devonian to Permian, in Eurameria, there was probably continuity of a mesoxerophytic and mesophytic type floras on which was superimposed during the upper Carboniferous an hygrophytic flora adapted to the swamps surrounding the coal-lakes and coal-lagoon. The time of the appearance of Coniferales is older as we think usually.  相似文献

Recent global ecological problems have necessitated more research into past environments so that accurate comparisons between past and present climatic conditions can be established and projections made for the future. In order to achieve this, palynological data from Well-C from the deep offshore (> 200 m) Niger Delta region were employed in an attempt to reconstruct the Late Pliocene-Pleistocene palaeoclimate. Four informal palynofloral assemblage zones (PAZ) I–IV are defined and correlated with four major cycles of alternating dry and wet climatic conditions. Within the major cycles, savanna and montane pollen assemblages became dominant in the late-Pliocene and mid-Pleistocene, while mangroves, brackishwater swamp, freshwater swamp and lowland rainforest prevailed during the early- and late-Pleistocene. The palaeoclimate of the late Pliocene and mid-Pleistocene was relatively colder and drier, with alternating relatively warmer and wetter conditions in the early and late Pleistocene, respectively. The pollen data from Well-C showed periods of climatic change during Late Pliocene-Pleistocene times, while the periods of climatic change revealed by pollen data from Lake Tilla, NE Nigeria, during Holocene times ranged from ∼2.0 to ∼3.8 Ka. Therefore, the cyclicity of climate change during Upper Pliocene-Pleistocene time is far greater than that of Holocene times. Our palaeo-climatic reconstruction conflicts with those that indicate predominantly dry climatic conditions in the Niger Delta region during the Pliocene-Pleistocene. The reconstructed palaeoclimate in this study can help to compare the past climatic conditions to that of the present and perhaps serve as a basis for studies of future climatic change.  相似文献

Middle Devonian chitinozoans were studied from 13 deep wells in the central part of the Amazonas Basin, northern Brazil, and compared with a newly established regional miospore zonation. Of the 23 chitinozoan species encountered, four are newly described: Ancyrochitina multibrachiata, Lagenochitina praeavelinoi, Ramochitina autasmirimense, and Ramochitina herculesi and seven species are retained in open nomenclature because of an insufficient number of well-preserved specimens. The stratigraphic intervals investigated herein correspond to three miospore interval range zones previously defined for the Amazonas Basin, namely, the Grandispora/Samarisporites spp. (GS); late Emsian-early Eifelian, Grandispora permulta (Per); late early Eifelian through the Eifelian-Givetian transition, and Geminospora lemurata-Chelinospora ex. gr. ligurata (LLi); early Givetian. A regional Middle Devonian chitinozoan biozonation, also consisting of three zones, is proposed for the investigated interval. These zones are the interval zone of Angochitina n. sp. A (early Eifelian), the interval zone of Alpenachitina eisenacki (late early to late Eifelian), and the total range zone of Ramochitina stiphrospinata (early Givetian).  相似文献

This work summarizes biostratigraphic and paleogeographic data on Paleocene ostracods from the Senegalese-Mauritanian, West African and North African basins. In the Senegalese-Mauritanian basin, late Paleocene ostracods of high diversity suffered a mass extinction in the early Eocene. Comparison between Senegalese faunas and others of the Gulf of Guinea, Sahara and North African basins shows great similarities, with 10 common species identified: Bairdia ilaroensis Reyment and Reyment, Buntonia apatayeriyerii Reyment, Bfortunata Apostolescu, B. tichittensis Apostolescu, Cytherella sylvesterbradleyi Reyment, Dahomeya alata Apostolescu, Isohabrocythere teiskotensis Apostolescu, Phalcocythere vesiculosa (Apostolescu) Quadracythere lagaghiroboensis (Apostolescu) and Trachyleberis teiskotensis (Apostolescu). I. teiskotensis and P. vesiculosa are restricted to the upper Paleocene and are good stratigraphic markers for these basins. Faunal exchanges between West African, trans-Saharan and North African basins are highlighted. The directions of migration of some species are specified. Many West African species migrated to North Africa at the end of the Paleocene-Early Eocene. Migrations are related to climatic and paleobathymetric changes of the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM) that occurred during the Paleocene-Eocene transition.  相似文献

The rugose coral genusAmplexocarinia Soshkina, 1928 is recorded for the first time from the Freilingen Formation (Upper Eifelian) of the Sotenich syncline (North Eifel, Rheinisches Schiefergebirge). A new species,Amplexocarinia freilingensis, is described, figured and compared toAmplexocarinia sp. from Eifelian/Givetian boundary beds of Moravia (Czechoslovakia) and to similar forms from different Devonian strata. Some remarks concerning the stratigraphy of the Freilingen Formation of the Sotenich syncline are given.  相似文献

We report here three new elasmobranch fossil taxa from Thanetian–Lower Lutetian nearshore marine deposits of northeastern (Matam region) and central-western (Sine-Saloum region) Senegal. These three new taxa represent the oldest species of the enigmatical elasmobranch Odontorhytis, the oldest putative representatives of marine potamotrygonid, and an uncertain dasyatoid genus with the smallest grinding dentition ever described. These new taxa, representing the second Cenozoic elasmobranch remains formally described from Senegal, broaden our understanding of their evolutionary and biogeographic history in the equatorial Eastern Atlantic during this time period. Their occurrences confirm hypothesised stratigraphically correlations between the top of Matam Fm. and the base of Lam Lam Fm., refine the marine connections between these two Senegalese regions, and suggest that these genera were broadly distributed within the shallow marine settings of the equatorial Eastern Atlantic during latest Paleocene–early Middle Eocene.  相似文献

A stromatoporoid fauna is described from the uttermost eastern quarry south of the Lenne river in Letmathe (Sauerland). The fauna consists of 8 species which have been found during a biostatistical study on the upper surface of a single limestone bed of Givetian age. The fauna can be interpreted as genuine community. — Most stromatoporoid species described from the German Paleozoic have been found in deposits of Eifelian, Givetian, and Frasnian age. The latest stromatoporoids found in the Rheinisches Schiefergebirge occur in biostromes of lowermost Tournai age near Aachen.  相似文献

This study deals with the Middle Eocene ostracods from southeast Fayoum area, Egypt. To carry out this investigation, three outcrops are examined, Gebel Elwe El Breig, Gebel Sath El Hadid and Gebel Munqar El-Shinnara. This study is based on the Midawara Formation that consists mainly of fossiliferous limestone, marly limestone and clay. The studied ostracod assemblage includes thirty-one species and subspecies, belonging to twenty-three genera and seventeen families. The ostracod group belonging to Cytheroidea Baird, 1850 represents the most abundant group that reaches 81.99% in Munqar El-Shinnara section, 81.88% in Sath El Hadid section, and 61.12% in Elwe El Breig section. The structure of the investigated assemblages (abundance of ostracods, number of taxa, Fisher's alpha, Shannon index, and equitability) indicates deposition in an environment belonging to the neritic zone. Moreover, this study tries to use the multivariate analyses to distinguish the paleobiogeographic provinces in Tethyan region during the Middle Eocene. These analyses are applied on a matrix consists of some nominated Middle Eocene species from 13 countries. The results point to two distinctive provinces, Southern Tethys Province (Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and Jordan) and the Northern Tethys Province (England, Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, Ukraine, Hungary and Turkey). The reasonable similarities between these provinces may reflect a possible connection between both sides of the Tethys during the Middle Eocene age.  相似文献

The Givetian platform of the Ardennes Massif records several alternations between a siliciclastic‐carbonate ramp and a carbonate shelf. Usually these depositional contexts are considered as a major disruption implying a perturbation of many ecological parameters. We established the impact of these variations on the biodiversity structure through the study of the trophic organisation. Thanks to a previous microfacies analysis, 550 levels of the Mont d'Haurs section in Givet and ten associated environments were precisely defined. Seven palaeotrophic levels are recognized from micropalaeontological data, including benthic, planktonic, heterotroph and autotroph organisms. The spatial and temporal distributions of these levels have been analysed through means of multivariate analyses. The statistic results show that the distribution of the palaeotrophic levels during periods characterized by a mixed ramp is not significantly different than during carbonate shelf influences. These environmental modifications do not affect the community‐type. These results support recent studies performed on different benthic communities occurring in the Givetian of the Ardennes Massif. Indeed, trilobite and ostracod faunas of this period appear more affected by global environmental changes as the Ka?ák (uppermost Eifelian) and Taghanic (late middle Givetian) events. Moreover, along the proximal‐distal transect on the platform, the reef constitutes the most singular environment. However, contrary with the Frasnian reefs of the Ardennes Massif, which consist of carbonate mud mounds laying on a deep mixed ramp, there is no trilobite community that appears restricted to Givetian reefs. Thus global bioevents during the Middle Devonian have a more important control on the biodiversity than the platform morphology. These results support the view that at wide scales (spatial and temporal), the biodiversity responds more positively to ecological disturbances.  相似文献

Palynological and sedimentological analyses were performed on Miocene sediments of North-East Tunisia in order to detect the changes in depositional environments, including those linked to eustasy, along with changes in vegetation and climate. The specific integration of palynological (pollen and dinocysts) and sedimentological (including facies analysis) data indicate that shallow marine settings persisted until the early Burdigalian–Langhian, and that open marine environments developed progressively in the late Langhian. Since the early Serravallian, deltaic environments developed under a fluctuating, but predominantly warm climate. The palynological data support a subtropical climate during the Burdigalian, with tropical conditions prevailing at the Langhian–Serravallian transition. The observed high frequency values of megathermic and mega-mesothermic pollen taxa represent the vegetation response to the Miocene climatic optimum (MCO).  相似文献

In this paper we analyze the rodent assemblage from the Early Pleistocene site of Gruta1 (Quibas karstic complex, Murcia, SE Spain), providing taphonomic comments and paleoecological and paleoclimatic data. The studied assemblage includes 209 identified rodent teeth corresponding to at least four taxa. The karstic source of the site and the low presence of digested remains suggest that the accumulation is scatological in origin, with the influence of predators such as owls; the accumulation also shows certain evidence of slight hydrodynamic sorting. For the area around Quibas/Gruta1 the paleoecological study indicates a predominance of rocky areas (31.7%), forested environments (31.7%) and open dry meadows or shrublands (29.7%), which would indicate a mosaic forest environment, and to a lesser extent the presence of open humid land (5.4%) and areas along streams or ponds (1.5%). The distribution of the bioclimatic spectra yields the highest percentage for a Mediterranean climate (37.5%), while the climatic parameters calculated (MAT = 15 °C, MTW = 25.7 °C, MTC = 4.3 °C, MAP = 390 mm) suggest colder and slightly more humid conditions than today at the time of the deposition of the remains. The data also point to a relative decrease in temperature within the phase in which the site was produced, which possibly occurred during a relative cold period between MIS 36 and MIS 40 according to the age.  相似文献

Oliver, W. A., Jr. 1990 04 15: Extinctions and migrations of Devonian rugose corals in The Eastern Americas Realm. Lethaia , Vol. 23 , pp. 167–178. Oslo. ISSN 0024–1164.
Detailed plotting of the stratigraphic ranges of Devonian rugose coral genera within the Eastern Americas Realm reveals new information about the extinctions and migrations of this largely endemic fauna. There were significant faunal turnovers in the Lochkovian, middle Eifelian and late Givetian. as well as in the often discussed late Frasnian. The late Givetian turnover was nearly as great as the Frasnian one. Inward migration was principally from western North America, and the greatest influxes were during the carly Givetian and Frasnian. It seems likely that there were several separate incursions and that some genera were introduced to the east two, or even three times.  相似文献
