An EMG system has been developed capable of doing an EMG analysis as well as providing diagnostic support with the aid of an integrated expert system. The goal of this EMG system is to reduce the time of examination and to increase the reliability of the diagnosis. In order to obtain many parameters from the EMG signal, different analysing methods capable of running in parallel are needed. The system has been realized with a transputer network. Thus it is possible to distribute the software components to different processors with high level of efficiency. For software development we use the operating system Helios. This makes it possible to use the standard I/O environment X-Windows.  相似文献

IntroductionThe gender composition of the existing medical physicist (MP) workforce around the world is basically unknown. The International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) performed a survey in order to investigate the number of MPs in countries around the world and the percentage of women MPs compared to total number of MPs.Materials and methodsA simple online questionnaire prepared as a Google Forms survey asking the country, the total number of MPs, the number of female MPs and finally the gender of the person providing the data was sent in mid-March 2013 to six regional member organizations of IOMP, as well as contact points in many member countries.ResultsSixty-six countries responded to the survey by mid-July 2013. Fifty two percent of those who filled the form were females, the rest males. The total number of MPs was 17,024, of which 28% were female (4807). The median values of percentages of females were 21% in the USA, 47% in Europe, 35% in Asia, 33% in Africa and 24% in Latin America.ConclusionThis is the first international survey that investigates the number and percentage of female MPs around the world. There are European countries that are far away from the target set by European Commission (40%) whereas in countries in the Middle East and Asia, female MPs actually outnumber males. This study is the first step in a more in-depth study that needs to be taken in near future.  相似文献

Wild-type zebrafish embryos swim away in response to tactile stimulation. By contrast, relatively relaxed mutants swim slowly due to weak contractions of trunk muscles. Electrophysiological recordings from muscle showed that output from the CNS was normal in mutants, suggesting a defect in the muscle. Calcium imaging revealed that Ca(2+) transients were reduced in mutant fast muscle. Immunostaining demonstrated that ryanodine and dihydropyridine receptors, which are responsible for Ca(2+) release following membrane depolarization, were severely reduced at transverse-tubule/sarcoplasmic reticulum junctions in mutant fast muscle. Thus, slow swimming is caused by weak muscle contractions due to impaired excitation-contraction coupling. Indeed, most of the ryanodine receptor 1b (ryr1b) mRNA in mutants carried a nonsense mutation that was generated by aberrant splicing due to a DNA insertion in an intron of the ryr1b gene, leading to a hypomorphic condition in relatively relaxed mutants. RYR1 mutations in humans lead to a congenital myopathy, multi-minicore disease (MmD), which is defined by amorphous cores in muscle. Electron micrographs showed minicore structures in mutant fast muscles. Furthermore, following the introduction of antisense morpholino oligonucleotides that restored the normal splicing of ryr1b, swimming was recovered in mutants. These findings suggest that zebrafish relatively relaxed mutants may be useful for understanding the development and physiology of MmD.  相似文献

This study reports on the initial results of an investigation into the taxonomic efficacy of different subsets of craniometric variables. Taxonomic performances of such subsets were evaluated in relation to a benchmark of expected results. This evaluation was allowed through the use of recent Eskaleut skeletal groups having an essentially known population historical relationship to one another. Exploratory data analysis revealed a provisionally optimal trait subset, i.e. one which produced a matrix of inter-group generalized biological distances in closest congruence with the “expected” model. This taxonomically efficacious, 18-trait battery (B18) was derived from a larger (B36) subset, comprised of 36 traits identified as the most powerful multivariate discriminators. In formulating the B18 battery, the B36 parent list was culled of measurements identified as being the most prone to error or noise stemming from imprecision, lack of morphometric efficacy, age regression, and minor cranial deformation. Also, and importantly, adaptive traits were culled if they covered craniofacial regions which are physiologically responsive, or biomechanically related, to the function of mastication. These results are gratifying, for they suggest that if proper consideration is given to various quality control criteria, computed intergroup biological distances have a greater likelihood of expressing information on population history relationships. While the provisional results reported here on taxonomic optimality are particular to the region under study, the underlying (“Backtracking”) approach is generalizable. Steps are outlined whereby this approach to population history reconstruction can be undertaken for any geographic region which meets stated prerequisites concerning materials and methods.  相似文献

Non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, or type 2 diabetes (T2DM), has become a major public health problem in India. The high prevalence, relatively young age of onset, and strong familial aggregation of T2DM in some Indian communities remains to be explained. Many of the traditional risk factors established for European populations do not appear to be present in Asian Indians. Phase I of the Sikh Diabetes Study (SDS) was launched to build the population resources required to initiate a large-scale genetic epidemiological study of diabetes in an Asian Indian population. The SDS is focused on the Khatri Sikh population of North India. In all, 1,892 subjects were enrolled to participate in the family-based study; 1,623 of these subjects belong to 324 families, each of which has at least 2 siblings affected with T2DM. The sample included 1,288 individuals affected with T2DM (siblings, parents, or relatives) and 335 unaffected siblings, parents, or relatives. The remaining 269 subjects were unrelated nondiabetic control subjects, including unaffected spouses of probands or siblings. This primarily nonvegetarian, nonsmoking endogamous caste group has presented an unusual clinical picture of uneven distribution of adiposity and a high rate of T2DM with secondary complications. Such well-characterized population isolates may offer unique advantages in mapping genes for common complex diseases.  相似文献

CART peptides are anorexigenic and are widely expressed in the central and peripheral nervous systems, as well as in endocrine cells in the pituitary, adrenal medulla and the pancreatic islets. To study the role of CART in islet function, we used CART null mutant mice (CART KO mice) and examined insulin secretion in vivo and in vitro, and expression of islet hormones and markers of beta-cell function using immunocytochemistry. We also studied CART expression in the normal pancreas. In addition, body weight development and food intake were documented. We found that in the normal mouse pancreas, CART was expressed in numerous pancreatic nerve fibers, both in the exocrine and endocrine portion of the gland. CART was also expressed in nerve cell bodies in the ganglia. Double immunostaining revealed expression in parasympathetic (vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP)-containing) and in fewer sensory fibers (calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)-containing). Although the expression of islet hormones appeared normal, CART KO islets displayed age dependent reduction of pancreatic duodenal homeobox 1 (PDX-1) and glucose transporter-2 (GLUT-2) immunoreactivity, indicating beta-cell dysfunction. Consistent with this, CART KO mice displayed impaired glucose-stimulated insulin secretion both in vivo after an intravenous glucose challenge and in vitro following incubation of isolated islets in the presence of glucose. The impaired insulin secretion in vivo was associated with impaired glucose elimination, and was apparent already in young mice with no difference in body weight. In addition, CART KO mice displayed increased body weight at the age of 40 weeks, without any difference in food intake. We conclude that CART is required for maintaining normal islet function in mice.  相似文献
