Comparative studies of fluorescent antibody procedure and a cultural method for the detection of Salmonella were made on 1,013 feed and feed-ingredient samples. The agreement between the two methods was 92.1%. There were more false positives (5.7%) than false negatives (2.2%). Of the 22 false negatives, 15 (68%) were obtained on meat meal. Of the total number of samples, 37% were meat meal. An additional study of 73 samples of meat meal indicated that correlation between methods was better than correlation between samples.  相似文献

Isolates of the most commonly observed salmonella serovars in Norwegian fish feed factories from 1998 to 2000 (Salmonella enterica serovar Agona, S. enterica serovar Montevideo, S. enterica serovar Senftenberg, and S. enterica serovar Kentucky) were studied by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) and plasmid profile analysis and compared to isolates of the same serovars from fish feed ingredients, humans, and other sources (a total of 112 isolates). Within each serovar, a variety of distinct PFGE types (with similarity levels less than 90%) were observed in the feed ingredients and other sources, while only two distinct types of each serovar were identified in the factories. The combined results of PFGE and plasmid analyses showed that each factory harbored only a few S. enterica clones. Some of these clones persisted for at least 3 years in the factories, indicating that there was long-lasting contamination probably due to inadequate decontamination procedures.  相似文献

筛选得到3株适用作为禽类饲料添加剂的枯草芽孢杆菌,分别命名为B395、B605和BM1。该3株菌株均能够在42℃正常生长,能抑制大肠杆菌、金黄色葡萄球菌,且能耐受0.3%胆盐,能产生淀粉酶、蛋白酶、纤维素酶。通过饲喂试验,观察到菌剂组可明显促进肉鸡生长,有效降低料肉比。选取B395作为试验菌株,以培养后活菌数为指标,得到其最佳固体发酵条件为麦麸∶稻糠为3∶2、葡萄糖0.5%、尿素2%、KH2PO40.5%,含水量45%、接种量5%、温度37℃、培养时间3d。按上述培养条件,对B395进行培养,摇瓶式发酵可使活菌数可达到(1.3±0.1)×1010CFU/g,浅盘式发酵可使活菌数达到(1.3-1.4)×1010CFU/g;并对B605和BM1进行培养,得到活菌数均超过109CFU/g。  相似文献

The application of polyvalent H serology for screening certain feed components for Salmonella was evaluated. In a comparative study of 1,894 suspicious or known positive samples, Salmonella organisms were detected in 1,141 samples with the conventional method and in 1,134 samples with the polyvalent H method. A statistical analysis of the results obtained by both methods indicated that the polyvalent H method is as reliable as the conventional method. Salmonellae can be detected by this method within 60 hr, whereas conventional methods require at least 4 days. The speed and reliability of the polyvalent H method are desirable for routine quality assurance.  相似文献

Three patients with duodenal fistulae were fed solely with an easily prepared, inexpensive jejunostomy feed for 14, 21, and 23 days respectively. Sodium, potassium, and nitrogen balances became positive, diarrhoea did not develop, and body weight increased. Adult female mosquitoes need blood to develop their eggs and both sexes use nectar and honeydew as carbohydrate resources for flight, survival and to enhance reproduction. However, there are also a few reports in the literature of mosquitoes feeding on haemolymph of soft-bodied insects such as caterpillars. The frequency and significance of this entomophagous behavior is not well understood, but is thought to be a vestige of ancestral feeding behavior or an opportunistic behavior that has evolved over time. In our current paper we investigated the extent to which the malaria mosquito, Anopheles stephensi, is attracted to, and can successfully feed on, larvae of two common moth species, Manduca sexta and Heliothis subflexa. Using y-tube olfactometer assays we found that female An. stephensi readily flew upwind to and landed on the caterpillars of both moth species. The nature of the volatile cues used in host location remains unclear but respirometer studies suggest a possible role of CO2. Laboratory cage assays further showed that the female mosquitoes were able to actively feed on moth larvae and gain sufficient nutritional benefit to influence survival. The extent to which such an opportunistic behavior occurs in the field has yet to be explored but our results suggest that this haemolymph feeding behavior could play a role in malaria mosquito life history and could provide a novel mechanism for horizontal transmission of pathogens and other micro-organisms between hosts.  相似文献

A digestion trial with subsequent examination of feed selection was conducted using two captive giraffe fed four feedstuffs. Apparent digestibility coefficients were relatively high, indicating that the animals were efficiently utilizing the feedstuffs. However, values could be affected by the possible ingestion of soil containing acid-insoluble ash. A high fiber pelleted feed was eaten in a greater quantity than a low fiber feed, even though the constituents in each feed were the same. Gross energy content of residual hay was higher than gross energy content of the offered hay. whereas neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber content were lower in the residual than in the offered hay. The animals did not appear to be selecting for a diet high in energy or low in fiber. Based on these results and other information, re-classification of giraffe as a facultative concentrate selector or as an intermediate feeder may be appropriate.  相似文献

Charles Brummer, Forage Breeding and Genetics, 1204 Agromonomy, Iowa State University, Ames, IA 50011 Much of the research on the genetic modification of herbaceous plant cell walls has been conducted to improve the utilization of forages by ruminant livestock. The rumen of these animals is basically an anaerobic fermentation vat in which the micro flora break down the complex polysaccharides of plant cell walls into simpler compounds that can be further digested and absorbed by the mammalian digestive system. Research on improving the forage digestibility of switchgrass, Panicum virgatum L., and other herbaceous species has demonstrated that genetic improvements can be made in forage quality that can have significant economic value. To meet future energy needs, herbaceous biomass will need to be converted into a liquid fuel, probably ethanol, via conversion technologies still under development. If feedstock quality can be genetically improved, the economics and efficiency of the conversion processes could be significantly enhanced. Improving an agricultural product for improved end product use via genetic modification requires knowledge of desired quality attributes, the relative economic value of the quality parameters in relation to yield, genetic variation for the desired traits, or for molecular breeding, knowledge of genes to suppress or add, and knowledge of any associated negative consequences of genetic manipulation. Because conversion technology is still under development, desirable plant feedstock characteristics have not been completely delineated. Some traits such as cellulose and lignin concentration will undoubtably be important. Once traits that affect biomass feedstock conversion are identified, it will be highly feasible to genetically modify the feedstock quality of herbaceous plants using both conventional and molecular breeding techniques. The use of molecular markers and transformation technology will greatly enhance the capability of breeders to modify the morphologic structure and cell walls of herbaceous species. It will be necessary to monitor gene flow to remnant wild populations of biomass plants and have strategies available to curtail gene flow if it becomes a potential problem. It will also be necessary to monitor plant survival and long-term productivity as affected by these genetic changes to herbaceous species.  相似文献

The fungal fermented wheat straws as animal feeds have been evaluated for its toxicological and nutritional status in male rats (Holtzman strain). Digestibility of dry matter and other nutrients as well as fiber fractions were found significantly higher (P < 0.05) in straw fermented with either Ganoderma sp. rckk02 (T3) or Crinipellis sp. RCK-1 (T4) than unfermented straw (T1) or straw fermented with Pycnoporus cinnabarinus (T2). The aflatoxin B1, B2, G1 and G2 were either absent or present in permissive levels in T3 and T4 diets and exhibited normal stress enzyme activity in case of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) enzymes whereas, rats fed on T2 diet showed elevated levels of stress enzymes (ALT, AST and LDH activity), 100% high morbidity and 8.3% mortality. This study suggests that Ganoderma sp. rckk02 and Crinipellis sp. RCK-1 are efficient in improving the nutritive value of poor quality straw and do not posses any threat for their subsequent use as ruminant feed.  相似文献

Summary An examination was carried out of the feed intake, feed efficiency and body composition of selected and unselected mice. It was demonstrated that selected mice utilised food more economically, and, in total, produced more protein than the control animals. However, selection had a negative influence on the percentage content of protein and ash. 本文报道了以热带假丝酵母ZAU-1为生产菌株,应用固体发酵技术生产的酵母饲料的营养价值,并通过对比饲养试验评价应用效果。试验结果表明,粗蛋白提高11.97%,粗脂肪提高2.44倍;赖氨酸、蛋氨酸和苏氨酸分别提高80.00%、34.07%和69.42%;维生素B2提高11.41倍,B5和B6分别提高19.57%和68.84%;维生素E提高63.43倍,还含有维生素A和D3用多种微量元素。饲养试验结果  相似文献

目的探讨对当前实验猴养殖场广泛使用的饲料盘进行改进,减少饲料浪费。方法在对实验猴采食习性进行观察的基础上,提出饲料盘改进办法,并对改进前后饲料浪费情况进行分析。结果新型饲料盘饲料浪费量明显少于旧饲料盘,增大新型饲料盘面积,饲料浪费量也明显减少。结论改进型饲料盘具有制作简单,容易清洁,大大减少饲料浪费等特点,值得在实验猴养殖场推广应用。  相似文献

The effects of a quantitative feed restriction on the digestive physiology of the young rabbit remain largely unclear. Several digestive functions were thus analysed in the rabbit after weaning, using a monofactorial design that produces a linear reduction of the intake, from ad libitum (AL group) to 80%, 70% and 60% of AL (I80, I70 and I60). The restriction programme was applied by giving a daily meal during 21 days after weaning (34 days), and then a 4-day transition period was managed where the feed intake was fixed at 80% of the AL group, before to be fed ad libitum till 69 days of age. The young rabbit quickly adapted to the restriction programme, since within 4 days after weaning they ate totally their ration within 6-7 h after the feed distribution at 8:00, while AL animals consumed 75% of their feed between 15:00 and 8:00. From 55 to 59 days old, rabbits of I70 and I60 groups reached the intake of the I80 group within 1 day, and then the feed intake of restricted animals increased progressively without over-eating. From 54 to 69 days old, the intake of the four groups did not differ and averaged 143.7 g/day per rabbit. During restriction, the live weight and the weight gain decreased linearly with the restriction level. From 55 to 69 days, the weight gain increased linearly according to the restriction level previously applied, but the final weight of restricted rabbits remained lower than AL ones (-3%, -5% and -7%, respectively, for I80, I70 and I60). After 7 days of restriction, the digestibility was not significantly affected by the restriction level, except for crude protein that presented a slightly higher (+1.5 unit, P = 0.05) coefficient in I70 and I60 groups. The mean retention time (MRT) of particles increased by 50% for restricted animals (mean: 26.2 h for I80 and I60) compared to the AL ones, while that of the liquid phase (three times longer than the particles) was linearly and moderately increased with restriction (+20% between AL and I60). In restricted groups, the caecal pH was lower (-0.3 unit, P < 0.05) and could be related to their higher volatile fatty acid (VFA) concentration (+16 mmol/l compared to AL, P < 0.05). The fermentation pattern, ammonia concentration and the caecal bacterial fibrolytic activity remained similar among treatments, although the butyrate proportion tended to be higher in restricted animals. Norepinephrine turnover and energetic efficiency studies were conducted in three groups of male Sprague-Dawley rats placed on low iron diets for 5 weeks on weaning. Iron-deficient rats had significant anemia (hematocrit less than 20%) and growth retardation relative to pair-fed and ad libitum fed controls who received the same diet plus weekly iron dextran injections. Energetic efficiency over a 7-day period was nearly 30% less in anemic animals. This was associated with significantly higher rates of norepinephrine turnover in brown adipose tissue (110%) and heart (330%) with significant hypertrophy in both tissues. There was no difference in body composition in ad libitum groups. Plasma triiodothyronine and thyroxine were reduced by 37% in iron deficients compared to controls. Thus 39% increase in caloric requirements in iron deficiency is associated with increased sympathetic and perhaps thermogenic activity in brown adipocytes.  相似文献

A field enquiry mentioned the potential positive impact of a feed restriction on the health of young rabbits, but no objective information relates the intake to digestive health. The effects of a post-weaning feed restriction strategy were thus studied on digestive health and growth and carcass parameters of the growing rabbit, using a monofactorial design that produces a quantitative linear reduction of the intake, from ad libitum (AL group) to 80%, 70% and 60% of AL. The study was performed simultaneously in six experimental sites, on 1984 growing rabbits (496 per treatment) collectively caged from weaning (34 to 38 days of age, depending on the site) to slaughter (68 to 72 days). The feeding programme was applied as followed: restriction during 21 days after weaning, and then ad libitum till slaughter. During the feed restriction period the growth rate was linearly reduced with the restriction level, by 0.5 g/day for each percent of intake reduction. When returning to ad libitum intake (after 54 days old) a compensatory growth and a higher feed efficiency occurred. Therefore, the impact of the feeding programme on the slaughter weight (SW) was significant (-4.5 g/% of restriction), but relatively moderate: the weight loss of the more-restricted rabbits (60%) reached 7.7% (-200 g) compared to the AL group. Over the whole fattening period, the feed restriction reduced linearly and significantly the feed conversion (FC) (-0.0077 unit/% of restriction). Carcass traits were little affected by the feeding programme, except for a slightly lower decrease of the dressing percentage (mean: 1.2 units between AL and the three restricted groups). On the six experimental sites, mortality and morbidity were always caused by acute digestive disorders, namely diarrhoea and/or caecal impaction. Independent of the treatment, the mortality rate strongly varied according to the site (between 7% and 18% from weaning to 54 days and for the AL group). During feed restriction, the mortality was significantly lower from a restriction threshold of 80% (meanly: -9% compared to AL). The morbidity was also significantly reduced (-6%) for the two most restricted groups (70% and 60%). The favourable effect of a lower intake on health did not persist after returning to ad libitum intake (54 days to slaughter), since mortality and morbidity were not significantly different among the treatments. Such a feeding strategy thus represents a double benefit in terms of feed costs and lower losses of young rabbits.  相似文献
