Advancements in reproductive technologies have shown seminal plasma (SP) as a nutritive-protective medium for spermatozoa metabolism, function and transport. At the same time quality variables and thus freezability of spermatozoa are influenced by SP proteins originating from male reproductive tract. One such protein, viz. PDC-109 is reported to influence freezability of spermatozoa in cattle. Thus the present investigation was designed to evaluate effect of seminal PDC-109 protein concentration on post-thaw cholesterol content and semen quality variables (SQP) as an indicator of membrane integrity and freezability, respectively of buffalo spermatozoa. Ejaculates (n = 42) selected on the basis of mass activity and individual motility were divided into three parts, first part for SP proteins isolation, second for cholesterol estimation and third part was cryo-preserved to evaluate freezability based on post-thaw SQP, viz. individual progressive motility, viability and acrosome integrity of spermatozoa. A total of 28 (66.7%) and 14 (33.3%) ejaculates from four bulls were found as freezable or non-freezable, respectively. Though total seminal plasma protein (TSPP) concentration was found similar in freezable and non-freezable ejaculates, the heparin binding proteins (HBP) content in non-freezable semen was greater (P < 0.01) than freezable ejaculates. There was a similar trend for the PDC-109 protein content in respective ejaculates. Cholesterol content of spermatozoa and SQP were greater (P < 0.05 and 0.01, respectively) in freezable as compared to non-freezable ejaculates of each bull at post-thaw stage. This study showed that concentrations of HBP and PDC-109 in non-freezable semen might be responsible for greater cryo-damage reflecting in poor freezability of buffalo spermatozoa.  相似文献

In the Canadian Animal Genetic Resource Program, bull semen is donated in frozen or fresh (diluted) states. This study was designed to assess the cryopreservation of diluted bull semen shipped at 4°C overnight, and to determine the post-thaw quality of shipped semen using different straw volumes and freezing rates. Semen was collected from four breeding bulls (three ejaculates per bull). Semen was diluted in Tris-citric acid-egg yolk-glycerol (TEYG) extender, cooled to 4°C and frozen as per routine (control semen). After cooling to 4°C, a part of semen was removed and shipped overnight to the research laboratory via express courier (shipped semen). Semen was packaged in 0.25 or 0.5 ml straws and frozen in a programmable freezer using three freezing rates, i.e., -10, -25 or -40°C/min. Control semen was also shipped to the research laboratory. Post-thaw sperm motility characteristics were assessed using CASA, and post-thaw sperm plasma membrane, mitochondrial membrane potential and normal acrosomes were assessed using flow cytometry. Post-thaw sperm quality was greater in shipped semen as compared to control (P<0.001). The shipped semen packaged in 0.25 ml straws had better post-thaw sperm quality than in 0.5 ml straws (P<0.001). Freezing rate had no effect on post-thaw sperm quality. In conclusion, bull semen can be shipped overnight for subsequent cryopreservation and gene banking. Overnight shipping of semen was found advantageous for bull semen cryopreservation. Semen packaging in 0.25 ml straws yielded better post-thaw quality than 0.5 ml straws.  相似文献

More than 90% of the breeding stock of Austrian dual purpose Simmental cows is artificially inseminated. Knowledge of factors affecting sperm production and semen quality is of importance with regard to reproductive efficiency and thus genetic improvement as well as for the productivity and profitability of AI centers. Hence, semen data from two Austrian AI centres collected in the years 2000 and 2001 were evaluated. In total, 3625 and 3654 ejaculates from 147 and 127 AI bulls, respectively, were analysed regarding ejaculate volume, sperm concentration, percentage of viable spermatozoa in the ejaculate, total spermatozoa per ejaculate and motility. Effects accounted for were the bull (random), age of bull, collection interval, number of collection on collection day, bull handler, semen collector, temperature on day of semen collection, in the course of epididymal maturation (average temperature of days 1-11 before collection) and during spermatogenesis (average temperature of days 12-65 before collection). Age of bull significantly affected all traits (P<0.01 to P<0.001) except motility score in center 2. Ejaculate volume and total number of spermatozoa increased with age of bull while sperm concentration was lower in higher age classes (center 1). The collection team was also found to significantly influence semen quality traits. With increasing collection interval ejaculate volume and total number of spermatozoa increased significantly (P<0.05 to P<0.001) while collection intervals between 4-9 days and 1-6 days were superior with regard to sperm concentration and percentage of viable spermatozoa, respectively (P<0.10 to P<0.001). First ejaculates were superior with respect to ejaculate volumes, sperm concentrations and total number of spermatozoa per ejaculate (P<0.001). Temperature, either on day of semen collection or during epididymal maturation or spermatogenesis, had important but inconsistent effects on semen production and sperm quality. Overall, however, ambient temperatures in the range of 5-15 degrees C were found to be optimal for semen production.  相似文献

Low-density lipoproteins (LDL) have been previously isolated and identified as the cryoprotective fraction of yolk. The effect of LDL on sperm motility after freezing-thawing has been reported, but no study has been made to assess the effect of LDL on bull semen fertility. The aim of this study was to evaluate the fertility of bull semen cryopreserved in the presence of LDL. Motility of semen cryopreserved in LDL was analyzed and compared to semen cryopreserved with Optidyl, a commercial extender containing egg yolk. To evaluate the fertilizing ability of semen, we used in vitro fertilization test, whereas acrosome and plasma membrane integrity were also evaluated. The percentage of motile spermatozoa was two fold higher after freezing in LDL than in Optidyl 54.4% versus 30.2% (P < 0.05). The cleavage rate was significantly higher after fertilization with semen frozen in LDL than with Optidyl 63.0% versus 54.8% (P < 0.05). No significant difference was observed on the blastocyst rate after in vitro culture. Integrity of the acrosome and the plasma membrane were maintained in both extenders. In conclusion, LDL preserve bull semen quality and fertilizing ability, allowing also better semen motility, after the freeze-thaw process.  相似文献

This study was conducted on 94 Frieswal (5/8 Holstein Friesian 3/8 Sahiwal) crossbred bulls of three different grades, categorized based on their semen freezability visualising Group 1 (consistently freezable semen producer bulls, N = 11), Group 2 (inconsistent freezable, N = 16) and Group 3 (Non freezable, N = 67). Each group was further divided into two classes that is young (up to 30 months) and adult (31 to 70 months) bulls depending upon their age. Sperm morphology was studied by using the eosin-nigrosin staining technique. Bulls age significantly (P < 0.01) affected semen quality and sperm morphology. In adult bulls, semen volume, mass activity and sperm concentration were 36%, 17.56% and 19.6%, respectively, higher than young. Initial progressive motility (%) and livability showed significant (P < 0.01) improvement with the advancement of age (43.37 ± 1.21 and 67.71 ± 1.11, respectively, in young; 53.02 ± 1.11 and 74.17 ± 1.03, respectively, in adult). In young bulls, sperm head, mid piece, tail abnormality and total abnormal sperm percent (12.38 ± 0.92, 4.87 ± 0.24, 11.01 ± 0.60 and 28.26 ± 1.34, respectively) were 1.85, 1.27, 1.20 and 1.44 folds higher than that of their mature stage (6.69 ± 0.64, 3.82 ± 0.32, 9.14 ± 0.64 and 19.66 ± 1.31, respectively). Significant reduction (P < 0.01) in micro cephalic sperm, free heads, bent mid piece, looped mid piece and proximal protoplasmic droplets were observed at mature age as compared with their younger stage. In bulls of consistent freezing category, abnormal sperm heads significantly decreased from 4.40 ± 0.31% to 3.28 ± 0.02% on maturity. Similarly, in inconsistent freezing grade bulls sperm head abnormality (9.28 ± 0.75% to 5.13 ± 1.20%) and total abnormal sperm percent (24.89 ± 1.43 to 18.73 ± 3.40) was decreased over the age. On the contrary, in non-freezing category bulls' sperm morphology did not show significant (P > 0.05) improvement with age advancement, rather some abnormalities like long slender head, under developed/deformed head, abaxial implantation of mid piece, double mid piece, stump tail and distal protoplasmic droplets tend to increased significantly (P < 0.05) with age of bulls. Results indicated that in potential Frieswal bulls semen quality and sperm morphology were improved from young to mature stage, where as, in poor quality (non-freezing) semen producer bulls neither the morphology nor the semen quality showed any improvement with maturity. It was recommended that crossbred bulls producing more than 25% morphologically abnormal sperms in young age (below 30 months) along with poor progressive motility (<50%) and low sperm concentration (<1000 million/ml) need immediate culling with out any expectation of further improvement in semen quality with age advancement.  相似文献

The ability of liposome-treated fresh and frozen spermatozoa from two bulls to interact with zona-free hamster oocytes was examined to show whether the in vitro test results would correspond with in vivo fertility as indicated by the 60 to 90 d nonreturn to service rates which, using frozen semen, were 77 and 59%, respectively. The motility of spermatozoa in washed suspensions was also rated. Hamster test results were obtained using three ejaculates from each bull both as fresh and frozen semen. The results with frozen semen corresponded with fertility. The averages of three hamster tests for oocyte penetration rates and mean number of spermatozoa per penetrated oocyte comparing spermatozoa from the bull with the higher fertility with spermatozoa from the bull with the lower fertility were 91% and 2.7 versus 56% and 1.4, respectively. Spermatozoa washed from frozen semen from the bull with the higher fertility interacted with hamster oocytes at the higher rate even when sperm motility was rated the same for both bulls. By contrast, fresh spermatozoa from the lower fertility bull interacted with hamster oocytes at a higher rate than spermatozoa from the higher fertility bull in six tests, comparing six ejaculates of fresh semen from both bulls. Comparing the higher fertility bull with the lower fertility bull, the average of six tests for oocyte penetration rates and mean number of spermatozoa per penetrated oocyte were 60% and 1.6 versus 89% and 3.0, respectively. This suggests that this hamster test cannot be used with fresh semen to predict relative levels of fertility of frozen semen. Also, the subjective rating of sperm motility did not correspond with the in vitro oocyte penetrating ability of the spermatozoa.  相似文献

The genetic resources of Indonesia's indigenous Kacang goat require preservation. Artificial insemination is expected to accelerate population increases and preserve genetic resources simultaneously. The present study was the maiden attempt for cryopreservation of Kacang buck sperm. The objectives of this study were to determine whether the supplementation of superior Simmental bull seminal plasma protein in egg yolk-citrate extender could improve the quality of post-thawed Kacang buck sperm, increase conceptions rates, and improve kidding rates. Buck semen was diluted without supplementation (T0) and with supplementation of 2.5 mg (T1) and 5 mg (T2) of Simmental bull seminal plasma protein per mL egg yolk-citrate extender. Extended semen was packed in 0.25 mL straw as cryopreserved frozen semen. Post-thawed semen samples were evaluated for viability, motility, intact plasma membranes, malondialdehyde level, and DNA fragmentation. Estrus was synchronized for sixty Kacang does, which were divided randomly into three groups and inseminated using post-thawed semen. The progesterone serum concentration of the does was measured 7 and 22 days post-insemination to detect ovulation and conception. Pregnancy was confirmed using abdominal palpation at 43 days post-insemination and by observing birth. The T1 group showed the highest (P < 0.05) post-thawed viability, motility, and intact plasma membrane. Conception, pregnancy and kidding rates were also higher in T1 than other treatment groups. In conclusion, the 2.5 mg Simmental bull seminal plasma protein supplementation per mL egg yolk-citrate extender provided the best seminal quality and fertility of post-thawed Kacang buck semen.  相似文献

This study aimed to improve the quality of cryopreserved beef bull (Piedmontese) semen by incorporation of relaxin in diluted semen before cryopreservation procedures. Semen samples were collected from 4 proven fertile bulls, using artificial vagina, once per week for 8 consecutive weeks and pooled together then diluted with Bullxcell® extender, and supplemented with different concentrations of relaxin (0 (control), 25, 50 and 100 ng/ml) before cooling, equilibration and freezing procedures. Frozen semen was thawed and assessed for motility by Computer-Assisted Sperm Analysis and vitality parameters such as acrosome, plasma membrane and DNA integrities, apoptosis, mitochondrial membrane potential, mucus penetration and SOD activity. The developmental potential of bovine embryos produced in vitro by using relaxin-treated was also investigated. In the present study, 50 and 100 ng/ml relaxin incorporation in extended bull semen before cryopreservation induced a reduction of sperm motility immediately after thawing (0h), whereas, during long incubation periods (1–2 h), relaxin showed a significant positive effect on sperm quality by improving the sperm motility and velocity parameters. Interestingly, sperm vitality was improved by 25 and 100 ng/ml relaxin and the blastocyst developmental rate was significantly increased in the 25 ng/ml relaxin group compared with controls (52/118, 44.0% vs. 32/116, 27.6%, respectively). These findings suggest a potential use of relaxin at the doses tested in the present study as an additive in the cryopreservation media of bull semen to improve sperm quality.  相似文献

With the premium bull plays a growing important role in cattle industry, semen detection technology based on individual identification and phylogenetic relationship is paid more and more attention. In order to lay the foundation for the establishment of the China Holstein bull identification method, this research takes 20 Chinese Holstein dairy bull’s blood and their corresponding semen, and then extracts the DNA both from the blood and semen, analysis the genetic polymorphisms of 10 microsatellite loci (TGLA227, INRA23, TGLA122, BM2113, SPS115, ETH3, ETH225, MCM158, MAF45 and UMN0108) by microsatellite marker, discuss the feasibility of this method used to individual identification. The results showed that Chinese Holstein dairy bull genetic diversity in the ten microsatellite loci were both high, and the average polymorphic information content of TGLA227, which highest, is 0.8162, ETH225 has the lowest, which is 0.6224. Use STR loci to identify the bull’s semen, the cumulative individual identification capacity is 99.99 %, which indication that 10 STR loci can be used to the frozen semen quality test and cows individual identification.  相似文献

A competitive insemination study was conducted to determine the effect of a deep uterine insemination on accessory sperm number per embryo in cattle. Cryopreserved semen of a fertile bull characterized by spermatozoa with a semi-flattened region of the anterior sperm head (marked bull) was matched with cryopreserved semen from an unmarked bull having spermatozoa with a conventional head shape. Using 0.25-mL French straws and a side delivery embryo transfer device, deep uterine insemination (0.125 mL deposited in each horn) was performed 2 cm from the uterotubal junction. Immediately after, the uterine body was artificially inseminated using semen (0.25 mL) from an alternate bull and a conventional insemination device. The complete dose (both inseminations) was 50x10(6) total sperm cells consisting of an equal number of spermatozoa from each bull. Single ovulating cows (n = 95) were inseminated at random with either the unmarked semen in the uterine body and marked semen in the uterine horn, or the unmarked semen in the uterine horn and marked semen in the uterine body. Sixty-one embryos(ova) were recovered nonsurgically 6 d post insemination, of which 40 were fertilized and contained accessory spermatozoa. The ratio and total number of accessory spermatozoa recovered was different among treatments: 62:38 (326) for the unmarked semen in the uterine body and marked semen in the uterine horn, and 72:28 (454) for the unmarked semen in the uterine horn and marked semen in the uterine body (P<0.05). Deep uterine insemination using this semen in a split dose and a side delivery device favors accessibility of spermatozoa to the ovum compared with conventional uterine body insemination.  相似文献

Epididymal semen is being more often considered as a potential source of valuable genes for genome resource banks. To utilize this resource as efficiently as possible, storage and freezing fertility and preservation characteristics of epididymal semen have to be examined. Because semen quality should be assessed as objectively as possible, we introduced computer assisted sperm analysis (CASA) of epididymal bull semen. The aims of this study were: to determine the quality of fresh cauda epididymal bull sperm, conventionally and by CASA (Hamilton-Thorne Ceros 12.1); to compare epididymal sperm movement with the motion characteristics of ejaculated semen; and to investigate whether equality of semen characteristics exists between both caudae epididymides of the same bull. In experiment 1, it is shown that epididymal sperm has a lower motility (total: 48.7% versus 79.9%, p < 0.0001 and progressive: 34.4% versus 58.4%, p < 0.0001) and moves less straight (80.5% versus 84.5%, p < 0.0009) with a higher amplitude (6.1 microm versus 5.0 microm, p < 0.0001) than ejaculated semen. The epididymal straight line velocity (85.2 microm/s versus 98.3 microm/s, p < 0.0001) is lower, but the curvilinear velocity (173.5 microm/s versus 156.4 microm/s, p < 0.0001) is higher than those of ejaculated semen. The data in experiment 2 are analysed to determine equality, rather than to find a difference. They illustrate that mean differences, for most semen parameters, between the semen from paired caudae epididymides, deviated more than 20% from the average values of these parameters from all bulls; the exceptions (those parameters within 20% of the average for all bulls) were the percentage of live spermatozoa, the linearity of sperm movement, the weights of testis and epididymis, the weights of the cauda epididymis alone, the volumes, and the amplitudes of movement of the semen (p < 0.05). The mean differences between the percentage of live spermatozoa and the amplitude of movement of the epididymal semen of both epididymides of one bull, were the only values smaller than 10% of the average value of this parameter (p < 0.05). This implies that sperm from one cauda epididymis should not be used as a control for the other because, for most of the semen parameters (concentration, morphology, motility, and beat cross frequency), equality between caudae epididymides of the same bull could not be established.  相似文献

Rapid warming of semen from 5 to 37 degrees C caused visible damage to the acrosomes of bull and rabbit spermatozoa. The degree and type of damage varied with the species, the bull being the more resistant. While vesiculation was observed in rabbit spermatozoa, neither warm nor cold shock resulted in this defect in the bull. Warm shock of bull spermatozoa caused acrosomal knobbing in an anterior region of the head. Spermatozoa with thread and/or droplet-like structures were frequently observed in bull semen after cold shock.  相似文献

Candida tropicalis was found in five infertile uteri with endometritis and in two dead fetuses in utero. C. tropicalis was also found in the commercial frozen semen used on this ranch. The source of contamination was traced to the green dye used by the semen processor to identify the semen.Routine culturing of commericial frozen semen revealed a variety of both quality and quantity of microbiologic contamination. This can be eliminated by hygenic collection of semen as was demonstrated at one bull stud. A check list of collection procedures is included.  相似文献

We investigated fluorometry to study sperm viability and flow cytometry to study sperm chromatin structure. We also assessed sperm quality after thawing relative to field fertility after AI as shown by 56-day non-return rates (56-d NRR) Frozen-thawed semen samples were obtained from 20 Swedish Red and White bulls (1 to 3 semen batches/bull) and the fertility data were based on 6,369 AIs. Fluorometry enabled simultaneous detection of sperm viability and concentration in Hoechst 33258-stained semen samples. Sperm chromatin structure assay (SCSA) evaluated denaturability of sperm nuclear DNA in situ after acid treatment. The intensity of fluorescence in non-permeabilized samples was negatively (r = -0.60, P < 0.001) correlated with microscopically-assessed sperm viability, and the fluorescence of permeabilized semen samples significantly (r = 0.67, P < 0.001) correlated with sperm concentration as assessed by hemocytometry. From the fluorescence output, the calculated percentage of damaged cells was negatively (r = -0.71, P < 0.001) correlated with the number of live cells derived from the microscopic assessment of sperm viability and concentration. This variable was significantly correlated with fertility results both at batch (r = -0.39, P < 0.05), and bull (r = -0.57, P < 0.01) levels. The SCSA variables SDalphat and COMPalphat were significantly (r = -0.59-0.64, P < 0.001) correlated with sperm viability variables after thawing but only the COMPalphat correlated significantly (r = -0.53, P < 0.05) with fertility results and solely at the bull level. The results indicate that fluorometric assessment is in good agreement with other practiced procedures and can be performed with sufficient accuracy. The SCSA may be a valuable complement for routinely practiced microscopic evaluation of sperm morphology of AI bull semen  相似文献

The objective was to evaluate the relationship of a competitive index (CI) determined by heterospermic performance and post-thaw semen quality of the same stored ejaculates. Semen from multiple ejaculates collected in succession from each bull (four Holstein and four Jersey) was pooled. Heterospermic doses (20x10(6)/straw) were made to obtain all possible Holstein-Jersey combinations (16 two-bull combinations) and contained 20x10(6) sperm/mL/bull. Cows at two University dairy farms were inseminated on observed or synchronized estrus. The sire of calves (N=460) were determined and a CI was determined for each bull (based on the number of calves sired). Prior to preparation of the heterospermic doses, a sub-sample of semen from each bull was taken, processed, frozen, and stored concurrently with heterospermic samples. Post-thaw semen samples (homospermic) from each bull were assessed for: sperm morphology, acrosome integrity, sperm motility parameters assessed by computer assisted sperm analysis (CASA), flow cytometry analysis of DNA Fragmentation Index (DFI), and Plasma Membrane Integrity (PMI). Heterospermic performance of Holstein bulls was superior to that of Jersey bulls. The DFI was negatively correlated to CI (r=-0.87; P<0.001), whereas the PMI (r=0.87; P<0.001) and total progressive motility (r=0.74; P<0.05) assessed by CASA were positively correlated to CI. In multivariate regression models, the DFI and PMI accounted for 87% variance in competitive index. In conclusion, bulls with less DFI and higher PMI had higher probabilities of siring calves.  相似文献

In this comparative study, reproductive parameters and semen characteristics of cloned bulls (n = 3) derived from somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) were compared to their original cell donor Holstein-Friesian (n = 2) bulls from the same enterprise to assess the differences in reproductive potential between a donor bull and its clones. The parameters evaluated included motility of fresh, frozen-thawed and Percoll-treated frozen-thawed spermatozoa, as well as in vitro fertilization (IVF) ability, embryo quality, birth and survival of calves following IVF and embryo transfer with frozen-thawed semen. With fresh semen, spermatozoa from one cloned bull had lower motility than its donor. Cloned bulls had higher velocity parameters in fresh semen, but those effects were not obvious in frozen-thawed or frozen-thawed semen selected with a Percoll gradient. Semen collected from cloned bulls had significantly higher IVF rates compared to donors; however, embryo development per cleaved embryo or quality of blastocysts did not differ between donors and cloned bulls. Pregnancy and live offspring rates from one donor and its cloned bull did not differ between fresh (40%, 16/40 versus 46%, 17/37) and vitrified/thawed (13%, 2/16 versus 25%, 4/16) embryo transfer following IVF. A total of 26 calves were obtained from genotypically identical donor and cloned bulls with no signs of phenotypical abnormalities. These preliminary results suggested that the physiology of surviving postpubertal cloned bulls and quality of collected semen had equivalent reproductive potential to their original cell donor, with no evidence of any deleterious effects in their progeny.  相似文献

Bovine virus diarrhea (BVD) virus was inoculated into 9 bulls. Semen samples were collected to determine if BVD virus could be isolated from semen and to determine if the virus affected semen quality. The reproductive tracts of 6 bulls were recovered following slaughter and subjected to virus isolation procedures and histologic examination.BVD virus was detected in 4 of 98 semen samples following inoculation. The virus was also recovered from the testicle of one bull following slaughter. Inoculation of BVD virus into bulls did not affect semen quality and did not cause gross or microscopic lesions in the reproductive tract. This experiment indicates that following inoculation of BVD virus into bulls, the virus may be shed in the semen. However, the probability of this occurring is low.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to characterize facial whorl characteristics in Holstein stud bulls (n = 485) and to investigate their association with measures of semen quantity and quality. Bulls had 1 (n = 454), 2 (n = 21) or no facial hair whorls (n = 5). Some 39% of bulls had whorls in the middle of their forehead, whereas 43% had whorls very low down on their forehead. Spiral whorls were present on 77% of bulls while 22% had elongated whorls. Abnormally shaped whorls were found more often on bulls with low whorls (27% versus 17%, P = 0.01) than on bulls with high or middle whorls. Semen production data were obtained from the AI center database to provide a representative sample of each sires most recent semen production characteristics. The number of semen collections per bull averaged 38 with a range of 1 (n = 9) to 272 (n = 1). The average number of days between collections was 5 but varied from 1 to 425 days. Average age of bulls at first recorded collection was 679 days and ranged from 307 to 4555 days. There were no significant differences between black and white bulls in semen quality or quantity. Semen quality over the summer months was reduced in comparison to the winter months. Age of the bull at time of collection had no effect on any of the semen quality traits. Older bulls had larger scrotal circumference and produced more semen (P > 0.01). Bulls with whorls located in the center of the forehead were not significantly different in semen quality or quantity for the 10 traits considered when compared to bulls with whorls located outside the center. In contrast to previous research findings with Angus cattle, semen attributes were not significantly different between bulls characterized with round (or spiral) epicenters and those with abnormally shaped whorls. A genome‐wide association study (GWAS) was performed to identify markers and candidate genes for five semen traits in the Holstein bull population in China. The analyzed dataset consisted of records from 692 bulls from eight bull stations; each bull was genotyped using the Illumina BovineSNP50 BeadChip. Association tests between each trait and the 41 188 informative high‐quality SNPs were achieved with gapit software. In total, 19 suggestive significant SNPs, partly located within the reported QTL regions or within or close to the reported candidate genes, associated with five semen traits were detected. By combining our GWAS results with the biological functions of these genes, eight novel promising candidate genes, including ETNK1, PDE3A, PDGFRB, CSF1R, WT1, DSCAML1, SOD1 and RUNX2, were identified that potentially relate to semen traits. Our findings may provide a basis for further research on the genetic mechanism of semen traits and marker‐assisted selection of such traits in Holstein bulls.  相似文献
