Effects of boron on growing pullets   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The effects of dietary boron on bone ash content and on the ultimate shear force, stress, and fracture energy of the tibia, femur, humerus, and radius from white Leghorn pullets were investigated. There was a significant increase in the shear force of the tibia and femur for pullets supplemented with 50 and 100 mg/kg of dietary boron. There was a significant increase in the shear stress of the tibia at 50 and 100 mg/kg of boron, and also an increase in shear fracture energy at 50 and 100 mg/kg boron for the femur. Tibia bone ash content increased significantly at 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg boron with the highest value at 50 mg/kg. Even though there was not a significant increase in body wt at 50 and 100 mg/kg boron, the pullets fed these supplements were consistently heavier than the control group.  相似文献

The gastric evacuation of juveniles of Coregonus lavaretus L. fed on living Daphnia pulicaria was investigated. Three successive stages of stomach evacuation were observed when one meal per day was given: (i) a lag phase between the end of food intake and the beginning of stomach evacuation, (ii) a linear reduction of stomach content, (iii) a long residence time for food relics in the stomach. The initial stomach content and the stomach evacuation time are correlated positively. The stomach content increased during feeding when three meals day −1 were provided and it decreased when no food was available. During the course of an experiment the highest stomach content found increased with increasing daly ration. Excess feeding resulted in a low stomach content similar to that found with rations about 30–50% of the maximum daily food intake. Therefore the daily food intake cannot be determined by the single parameter of stomach content alone. Identical initial stomach contents showed significantly higher stomach evacuation rates under three meals day−1 conditions than under one meal day−1 conditions.  相似文献

Two-year-old 1·5-kg rainbow trout were held in cages and conditioned by feeding either on low-fat chopped herring (H trout) or dry pellets (P trout) for 15 weeks. Their satiation amounts were then determined under standard conditions. On a wet weight basis H trout ate 2·5-3·5 times more food than P trout; this was sufficient to compensate for the high water content of herring and thereby maintain the dry matter intake. When P trout were offered herring (PH trout) they consumed more food than when offered dry pellets but not as much as H trout. Stomach capacity restricted the intake and their dry matter intake was reduced by c. 40%. When H trout were offered dry pellets (HP trout) they adjusted their intake immediately close to the level of P trout although their larger stomachs could have accommodated more than twice this volume of dry food. The return of appetite after a satiation meal was almost linear with time. Appetite increased at c. 556 mg g-1 body weight h-1 for H trout and at 142 mg g-1 bw h-1 for P trout. The return of appetite in PH trout was significantly slower (c. 370 mg g-1 bw h-1) than in H trout; the previous dietary history of the PH trout limited their capacity to process larger volumes of wet food in a single meal. Fish offered dry diet (P and HP trout) had similar rates of appetite return despite their previous feeding history suggesting that the property of the dry feed itself might limit meal size. The total gastric emptying time of diets of similar dry matter content (with and without large amounts of water) was similar, but the delay time before gastric emptying starts tended to be longer for dry diets. Dry pellets appear to impose a demand for water that prolongs the gastric delay. This water demand is met partly by drinking since the trout fed on dry pellets drank significantly more (436 ± 189 mg kg-1 h-1) than unfed and herring-fed trout which drank little or not at all (65 ± 113 and 70 ± 66 mg kg-1 h-1 respectively). Dietary water facilitated food processing and increased daily dry matter intake of trout when fed four times a day. When only one satiation meal per day was allowed, dietary water had no effect. It is concluded from this work that, in addition to gastric volume, a short-term limitation on the size of satiation meals in the rainbow trout is the availability of water to moisturize the food and thus to promote gastric digestion and emptying.  相似文献

Timed-mated Sprague-Dawley rats (60/group) were exposed to boric acid (BA) from gestational days (gd) 0 to 20. BA added to the diet (0, 0.025, 0.050, 0.075, 0.1, or 0.2%) yielded boron (B) intakes of <0.35 (control), 3, 6, 10, 13, or 25 mg B/kg body wt/d. Approximately one-half of the dams/group were terminated on gd 20, maternal whole blood collected and frozen, and prenatal outcome (fetal growth, viability, and morphology) evaluated. Remaining dams received control diet beginning on gd 20, and litters were monitored throughout lactation. Blood samples were prepared by a high-temperature alkaline ashing method and analyzed for B by inductively coupled plasma (ICP) optical emission spectrometry. On gd 20, blood B concentrations of 1.27 +/- 0.298 and 1.53 +/- 0.546 microg B/g were associated with the no-observed-adverse-effect level (NOAEL) and lowest-observed-adverse-effect level (LOAEL) (10 and 13 mg B/kg/d, respectively) for developmental toxicity. Developmental toxicity persisted postnatally only at 25 mg B/kg/d, a dose associated with >10-fold increase in maternal blood B (2.82 +/- 0.987 vs. 0.229 +/- 0.143 microg B/g for controls). Maternal blood B concentrations were: 1. Significantly elevated in all BA-exposed groups. 2. Positively correlated with maternal BA intake. 3. Inversely correlated with fetal body weight at doses above the NOAEL.  相似文献

Researches conducted worldwide indicate a frequent deficiency in mineral matters. Due to the increased need during the period of accelerated growth and development, children belong to the group that is exposed to the highest risk of mineral matter deficiency. Our objectives were to determine the iron, zinc, copper, manganese, and calcium intake in the collective diet of the preschool population in the in the northwestern region of Bosnia- in the Republic of Srpska and to estimate the adequacy of the application of the international food composition tables for nutrition planning relating to mineral matters. Samples of food intended for children’s diet were collected in the preschool institution “Radost” (a kindergarten), in the city of Prijedor. In daily portions, Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn, and Ca contents were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Contents of mineral matters in daily meals were also calculated by the food composition tables. An average daily meal contained 2.86 mg of Fe, 1.71 mg of Zn, 0.19 mg of Cu, 0.21 mg of Mn, and 83.5 mg of Ca. With calculation method, contents of all minerals are significantly higher than the experimental data for all used food composition tables. The obtained results indicate a significant deficiency in mineral matters in the collective diet of the preschool population in the Republic of Srpska, a certain non-compliance with the applicable recommendations, and also suggest a need to create food composition tables for food being consumed in our region.  相似文献

Calcium-content was determined in 23,557 daily food rations of the individuals fed individually or in sets of food or meals prepared in various institutions (3,298) in 1975-1987. Calcium deficit in daily food of girls and adult women has ranged from 50% to 6.2% in comparison with daily intakes recommended in Poland. Mean content of calcium per 1000 kcal ranged from 191.6 mg to 276.2 mg in 24 of the analysed meals. Calcium deficit amounted to 14-37.4% in 20 out of 24 analysed daily meals for boys and men. Calcium content in the remaining daily food rations was equal or even higher than the Polish daily intake recommendation. A mean calcium content per 1000 kcal ranged from 211.6 mg to 342.1 mg. These results suggest, that the daily calcium intake in several groups of the general population is to low, especially in women. Authors suggest, that such a low calcium intake in the diet increases the risk of osteoporosis, and intoxications with lead and cadmium salts, especially in children.  相似文献

Twelve nondepressed healthy female obese subjects (BMI > 30kg/m2) took part in a study which conformed to a double-blind randomized crossover design. Each subject acted as her own control across 2 weeks of treatment with either 60 mg of the 5-HT reuptake inhibitor fluoxetine or matching placebo. On days 7 and 14 of both treatment phases subjects were provided with fixed energy lunch meals high in either CHO or fat. The effect of these meals on satiety during the fluoxetine and placebo phases was assessed by a battery of procedures. Subjects felt less hungry after consuming the high CHO meal than after consuming the high-fat meal. They also felt less hungry when taking fluoxetine than when taking the placebo. Analysis of energy intake from the test meal revealed a main effect of prior lunch meal type (high CHO or high fat) and a main effect of drug treatment. Subjects consumed an average of 574 kcal following the high CHO meal compared to 689 kcal following the high-fat meal. Subjects also consumed an average of 532 kcal when taking fluoxetine compared to 730 kcal when taking the placebo. Fluoxetine did not exert any significant effects on macronutrient selection. Mean daily energy intake, calculated from food diary records, was 1881 kcal when subjects were taking the placebo compared to 1460 kcal when taking fluoxetine (a reduction of 22.4%). Fluoxetine treatment produced a significant weight loss of 1.97 kg over the two weeks of treatment compared to a weight loss of only 0.04 kg on placebo.  相似文献

Objective: Our objective was to assess the efficacy and safety of sibutramine with a low‐calorie diet (LCD) and commercial meal‐replacement product in achieving weight loss and weight‐loss maintenance in obese patients. Research Methods and Procedures: Eight U.S. centers recruited 148 obese patients for a 3‐month comprehensive weight‐loss therapy (Phase I) comprising daily sibutramine 10 mg + LCD (two Slim‐Fast meal‐replacement shakes, one low‐calorie meal; total kcal/d = 1200–1500). Patients (N = 113) who lost ≥5% of initial body weight during Phase I were randomized for a 9‐month period (Phase II) to daily sibutramine 15 mg + LCD (one meal‐replacement shake; two low‐calorie meals: total kcal/d ~1200–1500) or daily placebo + three low‐calorie meals (total kcal/d ~1200–1500). Both phases included behavior modification. Efficacy was assessed by body weight change during each phase and by the number of patients at endpoint maintaining ≥80% of the weight they had lost by the end of Phase I. Other outcomes included changes in cardiovascular and metabolic risk factors, adverse events, and vital signs. Results: Mean body weight change during Phase I was ?8.3 kg (p < 0.001). Patients randomized to sibutramine in Phase II had an additional ?2.5 kg mean weight loss vs. a 2.8‐kg increase in the placebo group (p < 0.001). More sibutramine patients maintained ≥80% of their Phase I weight loss at the end of Phase II (85.5% vs. placebo 36.7%, p < 0.001). Most adverse events were mild or moderate in severity, and all serious adverse events were unrelated to sibutramine. Discussion: Sibutramine plus LCD with meal replacements and behavior modification is a safe and effective strategy for achieving and sustaining weight loss in obese patients.  相似文献

The present study was designed to investigate the effects of Zn administration on metallothionein concentrations in the liver, kidney, and intestine of copper-loaded rats. Male CD rats were fed a diet containing 12 mg Cu and 67 mg Zn/kg body wt. They were divided into either acute or chronic experimental protocols. Rats undergoing acute experiments received daily ip injections of either Cu (3 mg/kg body wt) or Zn (10 mg/kg body wt) for 3 d. Chronic experiments were carried out on rats receiving Cu ip injections on d 1, 2, 3, 10, 17, and 24, Cu injections plus a Zn-supplemented diet containing 5 g Zn/kg solid diet, or a Zn-supplemented diet alone. Rats injected Zn or Cu had increased MT concentrations in liver and kidney. Zn produced the most important effects and the liver was the most responsive organ. Rats fed a Zn-supplemented diet had significantly higher MT concentrations in liver and intestine with respect to controls. Increased MT synthesis in the liver may contribute to copper detoxification; the hypothesis of copper entrapment in enterocytes cannot be confirmed.  相似文献

Four Holstein heifers (264 ± 12 kg initial BW) were used in a 4 × 4 Latin square design with 21-day experimental periods to determine the effect of increasing levels of sodium bicarbonate (BICARB) (0%, 1.25%, 2.5% and 5%, of concentrate dry matter (DM) basis) on chewing and feed intake behavior when fed high-concentrate diets. Concentrate (13.41% CP, 13.35% NDF) and barley straw were fed once a day at 0830 h ad libitum. Feed bunks placed on scales and video recording were used to measure 24-h feed intake and chewing behavior, respectively. The patterns of feeding behavior (feed intake, meal size and length) and chewing behavior (eating, ruminating and total chewing) were studied by dividing the day into 12 intervals of 2-h each, beginning at feeding (interval 1 through 12). Number of meals per day and eating rate decreased linearly with increasing buffer level, but meal length increased linearly. No treatment effects were observed in sum of daily meal lengths or average meal size. The treatment × interval interaction was significant on meal size, length and feed intake. The size and length of those meals occurring during the 4 h post-feeding increased linearly. However, meal size tended to decrease in the evening between 8 and 12 h, whereas feed intake decreased linearly from 6 to 10 h and from 12 to 14 h post-feeding. Buffer concentration did not affect the percentage of time spent ruminating, eating or drinking per day but the buffer level × interval interaction was significant. Time spent eating expressed as min per kg of DM or organic matter (OM) intake increased linearly with buffer levels. Proportion of time spent eating increased linearly during the intervals between 0 and 4 h post-feeding. Time spent ruminating decreased linearly during the 2 h post-feeding, and also in the evening from 12 to 14 h, and at night from 18 to 22 h post-feeding, but the effect was quadratic between 8 and 10 h when intermediate buffer levels showed the greatest ruminating time. Time spent drinking decreased linearly from 6 to 8 h but increased during the 2 h following feeding and from 10 to 12 h post-feeding. Daily eating rate and meal frequency decreased linearly as the buffer level increased, but average meal size and daily chewing times were not affected. However, significant time of the day × buffer level interactions were observed for feed intake, meal size and length and chewing behavior.  相似文献

The objective of this investigation was to determine whether urinary and plasma potassium changes developed during prolonged hypokinesia (HK) (decreased number of km/d) in endurance-trained subjects could be minimized or reversed with a daily intake of fluid and salt supplementation (FSS). The studies were performed on 30 endurance-trained male volunteers aged 23–26 yr with an average peak oxygen uptake of 65 mL/kg min during 364 d of HK. All volunteers were on an average of 13.8 km/d prior to their exposure to HK. All volunteers were randomly divided into three groups: 10 volunteers were placed continuously under an average of 14.0 km/d (control subjects), 10 volunteers were subjected continuously to an average of 2.7 km/d (unsupplemented hypokinetic subjects), and 10 volunteers were submitted continuously to an average of 2.7 km/d, and consumed daily an additional amount of 0.1 g sodium chloride (NaCl)/kg body wt and 30 mL water/kg body wt (supplemented hypokinetic subjects). During the prehypokinetic period of 60 d and during the hypokinetic period of 364 d, potassium loading tests were performed with 1.5–1.7 mEq potassium chloride/kg body wt, and potassium, sodium, and chloride excretion in urine and potassium, sodium, and chloride in plasma were determined. In the unsupplemented hypokinetic volunteers, urinary excretion of electrolytes and concentrations of electrolytes in plasma increased significantly as compared to the control and supplemented hypokinetic groups of volunteers. It was concluded that daily intake of fluid and salt supplementation had a favorable effect on regulation of urinary and plasma potassium changes in trained subjects during prolonged HK.  相似文献

We determined the concentrations of Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, and Zn in dietary supplements of marine origin. Four supplement categories were studied; algae, coral, krill, and shark cartilage. A direct mercury analyzer was used for Hg determinations while acid digestions and ICP-AES were used for Cr analysis and ICP-MS for the other trace metals. Algae are the supplements showing the highest concentrations of Pb, Cr, and Ni with respective means of 1.6 mg Pb/kg dry weight (d.w.), 3.2 Cr mg/kg d.w., and 8.0 mg Ni/kg d.w. Krill supplements have the highest levels of Cd, Cu, and Zn with 0.65 mg Cd/kg d.w., 63 mg Cu/kg d.w., and 50 mg Zn/kg d.w., respectively. Shark cartilage supplements show the highest levels of Hg and Co with mean concentrations of 160 μg Hg/kg d.w. and 73 ± 51 μg Co/kg d.w., respectively. No samples in our study exceeded the provisional tolerable daily intakes set by Health Canada, the joint committee of the World Health Organization/Food and Agricultural Organization, or the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Nevertheless, Ni and Pb in algae and Hg in shark cartilage may end up contributing to a very significant portion of the allowable daily intake—leaving little room for normal intake through food consumption and other exposure pathways.  相似文献

A feeding experiment was conducted with 10 dairy cows of the Fleckvieh breed and the cross Red Holstein Friesian × Fleckvieh, to study whether feeding with grass silage at the morning meal and maize silage at the evening meal (treatment B: alternating forage allocation) affects forage intake and milk production, in comparison with combined feeding with these two silages at each meal (treatment A). In order to prevent a selective forage consumption in treatment A, the two silages were given as a homogeneous mixture of nearly equal portions (51.6% maize silage, 48.4% grass silage) of dry matter (DM). The experiment was of switch-back design, with the treatment sequences ABA and BAB, and three experimental periods of 6 weeks. The daily forage consumption averaged 12.3 kg DM when the silages were given as a mixture and was significantly higher than the total forage consumption of 11.8 kg DM (P < 0.05) during the alternating allocation of the silages. In treatment B, daily intake of maize silage (7.10 kg DM) was greater than that of grass silage (4.70 kg DM/day). Furthermore, variation between cows in forage intake was significantly higher in this treatment than in treatment A. Average daily milk yield for treatment A was 18.75 kg with 3.84% fat and 3.70% protein, and 18.10 kg with 3.76% fat and 3.68% protein for treatment B. Production was significantly higher (P < 0.05), by 0.65 kg milk or 0.90 kg FCM, for treatment A.  相似文献

Diets of six Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) were switched between a high (herring) and a low (squid) energy density food for 14 d to determine the effects on ingested prey mass, body mass, resting metabolic rate, and the heat increment of feeding. Body mass was measured daily, and resting metabolism was measured weekly by gas respirometry. Ingested food mass did not differ significantly between the squid diet and the control or the recovery herring diet periods. As a result of differences in energy density, gross energy intake was significantly lower during the squid diet phase than during either the control or recovery periods. As a result, sea lions lost an average of 1.1 kg/d, totaling 12.2% of their initial body mass by the end of the experimental period. The heat increment of feeding for a 4-kg squid meal was significantly lower than for a similarly sized meal of herring. Decreases in both absolute (24.0 to 18.0 MJ/d, -24%) and mass-corrected (903 to 697 kJ/d/kg0.67, -20%) metabolism were observed by the end of the squid feedings. This study suggests that sea lions can depress their resting metabolism in response to decreases in energy intake or body mass, regardless of satiation level.  相似文献

The synchronizing stimulus, its transduction site, and the afferent pathways responsible for feeding entrainment remain unknown. In fish, the role of the diet in the development of feeding anticipatory activity (FAA) is not well understood and fundamental questions on the mechanisms of feeding entrainment, such as the meal characteristics required to develop FAA, remain unexplored. To test the entraining properties of daily meals with different sizes and energy densities, activity rhythms were studied after a 12-h shift of the feeding cycle in individual goldfish under constant light. In the 1st experiment, the energy content of a control diet (16.7 kJ/g) was diluted by replacing 50% (8.3 kJ/g) or 90% (1.7 kJ/g) of the diet with cellulose. However, the number of days required to stabilize FAA after the shift did not differ statistically between diets. In the 2nd experiment, meal size was modified by reducing the daily feeding ration to 0.5% and 0.1% b.wt.d(-1). In this case, differences in the entraining properties of the two feeding rations appeared because goldfish fed at 0.1% b.wt.d(-1) resynchronized faster than those fed at 0.5% b.wt.d(-1). These results revealed that the dilution of the dietary energy up to 1.7 kJ/g had no significant effect on the entraining properties of the feeding-entrainable oscillator (FEO), whereas the reduction of the meal size to 0.1% b.wt.d(-1) provoked a faster resynchronization after shifting the daily meal cycle. Taken together, these results suggest that gut distension may be involved in feeding entrainment, as a reduction in meal size but not in the amount of dietary energy supplied significantly shortened the time required for resynchronization and highlighted the different synchronizing properties of meal size and energy density as zeitgebers for the FEO.  相似文献

The anorexia of aging syndrome in humans is characterized by spontaneous body weight loss reflecting diminished food intake. We reported previously that old rats undergoing a similar phenomenon of progressive weight loss (i.e., senescent rats) also display altered feeding behavior, including reduced meal size and duration. Here, we tested the hypothesis that blunted responsiveness to neuropeptide Y (NPY), a feeding stimulant, occurs concurrently with senescence-associated anorexia/hypophagia. Young (8 mo old, n = 9) and old (24-30 mo old, n = 11) male Fischer 344 rats received intracerebroventricular NPY or artificial cerbrospinal fluid injections. In response to a maximum effective NPY dose (10 microg), the net increase in size of the first meal after injection was similar in old weight-stable (presenescent) and young rats (10.85 +/- 1.73 and 12.63 +/- 2.52 g/kg body wt (0.67), respectively). In contrast, senescent rats that had spontaneously lost approximately 10% of body weight had significantly lower net increases at their first post-NPY meal (1.33 +/- 0.33 g/kg body wt (0.67)) than before they began losing weight. Thus altered feeding responses to NPY occur in aging rats concomitantly with spontaneous decrements in food intake and body weight near the end of life.  相似文献

The present study was to investigate the effects of diltiazem, a ghrelin receptor agonist, on food intake and gastrointestinal functions in rats. Rats were intragastrically administered with diltiazem solution (daily 16 mg/kg, 30 mg/kg or 80 mg/kg, 30 d), and the rats with saline as control. To detect the effects of diltiazem on food intake and body weight, the average daily food intake and body weight were recorded, and the serum metabolic hormones of plasma growth hormone (GH) and neuropeptide Y (NPY) were tested by radioimmunoassay. By means of the spectrophotometer and the modified Mett's method, the effects of diltiazem on rat's gastrointestinal function and pepsin activity were tested, respectively. In addition, the gastric juice's acidity of rats was detected by titration and the secretion amount was calculated. The results showed that the food intake and body weight were maximally promoted by diltiazem at the dose of 30 mg/kg daily (30 d). The average daily food intake and body weight were significantly increased, and the serum concentrations of GH and NPY were also remarkably increased in diltiazem-treated groups compared with those in control group. The results also showed that the gastric emptying rate, gastric acid secretion and the activity of pepsin were significantly increased in diltiazem-treated group compared with those in control group. These results suggest that diltiazem induces enhancement of eating, in the same time, it can also stimulate the gastrointestinal function and regulate growth of rat.  相似文献

Mice that exercise after meals gain less body weight and visceral fat compared to those that exercised before meals under a one meal/exercise time per day schedule. Humans generally eat two or three meals per day, and rarely have only one meal. To extend our previous observations, we examined here whether a “two meals, two exercise sessions per day” schedule was optimal in terms of maintaining a healthy body weight. In this experiment, “morning” refers to the beginning of the active phase (the “morning” for nocturnal animals). We found that 2-h feeding before 2-h exercise in the morning and evening (F-Ex/F-Ex) resulted in greater attenuation of high fat diet (HFD)-induced weight gain compared to other combinations of feeding and exercise under two daily meals and two daily exercise periods. There were no significant differences in total food intake and total wheel counts, but feeding before exercise in the morning groups (F-Ex/F-Ex and F-Ex/Ex-F) increased the morning wheel counts. These results suggest that habitual exercise after feeding in the morning and evening is more effective for preventing HFD-induced weight gain. We also determined whether there were any correlations between food intake, wheel rotation, visceral fat volume and skeletal muscle volumes. We found positive associations between gastrocnemius muscle volumes and morning wheel counts, as well as negative associations between morning food intake volumes/body weight and morning wheel counts. These results suggest that morning exercise-induced increase of muscle volume may refer to anti-obesity. Evening exercise is negatively associated with fat volume increases, suggesting that this practice may counteract fat deposition. Our multifactorial analysis revealed that morning food intake helps to increase exercise, and that evening exercise reduced fat volumes. Thus, exercise in the morning or evening is important for preventing the onset of obesity.  相似文献

SUMMARY. 1. The dry weight of food remaining in the stomachs of piscivorous trout decreased exponentially with time. Gastric evacuation rates increased exponentially with increasing temperature but were unaffected by predator size, meal size or type of fish prey.
2. Mathematical models were developed to estimate both the rate and time for the gastric evacuation of different meal sizes (expressed as dry weight), and were applicable to piscivorous trout of different sizes (length range 10–32 cm) feeding on trout fry or sticklebacks at different temperatures (range 5–18°C).
3. The wet weight of food in the stomachs also decreased exponentially with time, but evacuation rates both increased with temperature and decreased with increasing meal size; the latter relationship occurred because relative rates of water loss from a meal also decreased with increasing meal size. Use of wet or dry weights can therefore lead to different conclusions about the effect of meal size on evacuation rates.
4. When piscivorous trout were fed three consecutive meals of varying size, the models predicted the total dry weight of food left in the stomach, but not the weight remaining for each individual meal. Interactions between meals led to an increase in evacuation rates for meals consumed early in the series and a decrease in evacuation rates for later meals.
5. Evacuation rates for piscivorous trout were compared with those for trout feeding on invertebrates in an earlier study, and were close to those for caddis larvae as prey, higher than those for mealworms and lower than those for a variety of invertebrate prey. Although a great deal is now known about the daily food intake and growth rates of trout feeding on invertebrates, there is little comparable information for piscivorous trout.  相似文献

Dietary boron intakes of selected populations in the United States   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Knowledge of daily boron (B) intakes will assist researchers in establishing B requirements and elucidating the metabolic role of B in humans. B concentrations in commonly consumed foods were utilized to approximate the B intake of selected US populations. Triplicate food samples were digested at low temperatures with 16M HNO3 and 30% H2O2, and analyzed by inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy (ICP). Milk and dairy products, juices, and beverages were the largest contributors to dietary B. Total B content of average daily diets ranged from 548 μg for toddlers (2 yr old) to 883 μg for mature males (60–65 yr old), excluding tap water contributions. Toddlers consumed 3.7 times more B than mature males when adjusted for body weight (body wt) and consumed the diet with the highest boron density (1.8 μg/kJ or 0.43 μg/kcal). Adolescent females consumed a diet with the lowest B density (1.12 μg/kJ or 0.26 μg/kcal). Food B concentrations applied to diet records (1020 μg/d) and ICP analysis of the corresponding food composites (1170 μg/d) were comparable (p < 0.05). Current estimations of B in US diets are consistent with reports in the literature stating that normal adult daily B intakes are approx 1 mg.
