Crucial advancements in versatile catalyst systems capable of achieving high current densities under industrial conditions, bridging the gap between fundamental understanding and practical applications, are pivotal to propel the hydrogen economy forward. In this study, vertically oriented hierarchically multiscale nanoflakes of NiFeCo electrocatalysts are presented, developed by surface modification of a porous substrate with nano-structured nickel. The resulting electrodes achieve remarkably low overpotentials of 139 mV at 10 mAcm−2 and 248 mV at 500 mAcm−2. Further, scaled-up electrodes are implemented in a water-splitting electrolyser device exhibiting a stable voltage of 1.82 V to deliver a constant current density of 500 mA cm−2 for over 17 days. Moreover, the role of the unique structures on electrochemical activity is systematically investigated by fractal analysis, involving computation of structure factors such as Minkowski connectivity, fractal dimension, and porosity using scanning electron microscope images. It is found that such structures offer higher surface area than typical layered double hydroxide structures due to morphological coherence that results in a superhydrophilic surface, while the base Ni layer boosts the charge transfer. This study demonstrates a Ni/NiFeCo(OH)x heterostructure with highly porous morphology, a key to unlocking extremely efficient oxygen evolution reaction activity with exceptional stability. Moreover, fractal analysis is presented as a valuable tool to evaluate the electrochemical performance of catalysts for their structured morphology.  相似文献

Organolead halide perovskite materials have demonstrated great potential in the solar cells field owing to their excellent optoelectronic properties. However, the instability issue of the perovskites impedes the translation of their attractive features for the solar fuel production such as photoelectrochemical H2 production from water splitting. Herein, CH3NH3PbI3 a photocathode with a sandwich‐like structure is fabricated with a general and scalable approach toward addressing this issue. The photocathode exhibits an onset potential at 0.95 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) and a photocurrent density of ?18 mA cm?2 at 0 V versus RHE with an impressive ideal ratiometric power‐saved efficiency of 7.63%. More impressively, the photocathode retains good stability under 12 h continuous illumination in water at wide pH range. This performance is much superior to that of the best perovskite‐based photoelectrode ever reported.  相似文献

Exploring low‐cost hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalysts with remarkable activity over wide pH range (0–14) still remains an enormous challenge. Herein, for the first time, a novel platinum‐like, double‐deck carbon coated V8C7 networks with the highly active (110) facet exposed as a new efficient HER electrocatalyst is reported. The single‐crystal interweaved V8C7 networks are designed and fabricated based on a low crystal‐mismatch strategy and confinement effect of double‐deck carbon coating. In addition, electrochemical tests and theoretical simulation indicate that the metallic character of V8C7, high‐activity of exposed facet, and low barrier energy for water dissociation can contribute to highly catalytic activity of HER. Impressively, the HER performances of the interweaved V8C7 networks can be comparable to those of Pt at an all‐pH environment, with Tafel slopes of 44, 64, and 34.5 mV dec?1and overpotential of 47, 77, and 38 mV at ?10 mA cm?2 in 1 m KOH, 0.1 m phosphate buffer, and 0.5 m H2SO4, respectively. This work provides a blueprint for exploring new‐type platinum‐like catalysts for various energy conversion systems.  相似文献

A newly designed water‐stable NH2‐MIL‐88B(Fe2Ni)‐metal–organic framework (MOF), in situ grown on the surface of a highly conducting 3D macroporous nickel foam (NF), termed NFN‐MOF/NF, is demonstrated to be a highly efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst for overall water splitting with ultrastability at high current densities. The NFN‐MOF/NF achieves ultralow overpotentials of 240 and 87 mV at current density of 10 mA cm?2 for the oxygen evolution reaction and hydrogen evolution reaction, respectively, in 1 m KOH. For the overall water splitting, it requires only an ultralow cell voltage of 1.56 V to reach the current density of 10 mA cm?2, outperforming the pairing of Pt/C on NF as the cathode and IrO2 on NF as the anode at the same catalyst loading. The stability of the NFN‐MOF/NF catalyst is also outstanding, exhibiting only a minor chronopotentiometric decay of 7.8% at 500 mA cm?2 after 30 h. The success of the present NFN‐MOF/NF catalyst is attributed to the abundant active centers, the bimetallic clusters {Fe2Ni(µ3‐O)(COO)6(H2O)3}, in the MOF, the positive coupling effect between Ni and Fe metal ions in the MOF, and synergistic effect between the MOF and NF.  相似文献

Rational synthesis of hybrid, earth‐abundant materials with efficient electrocatalytic functionalities are critical for sustainable energy applications. Copper is theoretically proposed to exhibit high reduction capability close to Pt, but its high diffusion behavior at elevated fabrication temperatures limits its homogeneous incorporation with carbon. Here, a Cu, Co‐embedded nitrogen‐enriched mesoporous carbon framework (CuCo@NC) is developed using, a facile Cu‐confined thermal conversion strategy of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIF‐67) pre‐grown on Cu(OH)2 nanowires. Cu ions formed below 450 °C are homogeneously confined within the pores of ZIF‐67 to avoid self‐aggregation, while the existence of Cu? N bonds further increases the nitrogen content in carbon frameworks derived from ZIF‐67 at higher pyrolysis temperatures. This CuCo@NC electrocatalyst provides abundant active sites, high nitrogen doping, strong synergetic coupling, and improved mass transfer, thus significantly boosting electrocatalytic performances in oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). A high half‐wave potential (0.884 V vs reversible hydrogen potential, RHE) and a large diffusion‐limited current density are achieved for ORR, comparable to or exceeding the best reported earth‐abundant ORR electrocatalysts. In addition, a low overpotential (145 mV vs RHE) at 10 mA cm?2 is demonstrated for HER, further suggesting its great potential as an efficient electrocatalyst for sustainable energy applications.  相似文献

The search for Pt‐free electrocatalysts exceeding pH‐universal hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activities when compared to the state‐of‐the‐art commercial Pt/C is highly desirable for the development of renewable energy conversion systems but still remains a huge challenge. Here a colloidal synthesis of monodisperse Rh2P nanoparticles with an average size of 2.8 nm and their superior catalytic activities for pH‐universal HER are reported. Significantly, the Rh2P catalyst displays remarkable HER performance with overpotentials of 14, 30, and 38 mV to achieve 10 mA cm?2 in 0.5 m H2SO4, 1.0 m KOH, and 1.0 m phosphate‐buffered saline, respectively, exceeding almost all the documented electrocatalysts, including the commercial 20 wt% Pt/C. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the introduction of P into Rh can weaken the H adsorption strength of Rh2P to nearly zero, beneficial for boosting HER performance.  相似文献

Novel thin film composite photocathodes based on device‐grade Cu(In,Ga)Se2 chalcopyrite thin film absorbers and transparent conductive oxide Pt‐implemented TiO2 layers on top are presented for an efficient and stable solar‐driven hydrogen evolution. Thin films of phase‐pure anatase TiO2 are implemented with varying Pt‐concentrations in order to optimize simultaneously i) conductivity of the films, ii) electrocatalytic activity, and iii) light‐guidance toward the chalcopyrite. Thereby, high incident‐photon‐to‐current‐efficiencies of more than 80% can be achieved over the full visible light range. In acidic electrolyte (pH 0.3), the most efficient Pt‐implemented TiO2–Cu(In,Ga)Se2 composite electrodes reveal i) photocurrent densities up to 38 mA cm?2 in the saturation region (?0.4 V RHE, reversible hydrogen electrode), ii) 15 mA cm?2 at the thermodynamic potential for H2‐evolution (0 V RHE), and iii) an anodic onset potential shift for the hydrogen evolution (+0.23 V RHE). It is shown that the gradual increase of the Pt‐concentration within the TiO2 layers passes through an efficiency‐ and stability‐maximum of the device (5 vol% of Pt precursor solution). At this maximum, optimized light‐incoupling into the device‐grade chalcopyrite light‐absorber as well as electron conductance properties within the surface layer are achieved while no degradation are observed over more than 24 h of operation.  相似文献
