Fifty fungal types were isolated from the indoor atmosphere of saw mills by exposing Petri plates containing Czapek-dox Agar, Potato-dextrose Agar and Sabouraud Agar media for 5 min. The fungal flora of the outdoor surroundings was also studied for comparison. Species ofAspergilli dominated in the saw mills, being represented by 16 species including one ascosporic form. Other fungi were species ofCladosporium, Alternaria, Curvularia, Penicillium, Fusarium, etc. Variations in the fungal population in different months were also observed. Fungal spores recovered using the Rotorod Sampler wereAlternaria, Curvalaria lunata, Curvularia tetramera, Cladosporium, Dreschslera sp.,Epicoccum sp.,Pithomyes sp.,Nigrospora, Stemphylium sp. andTorula sp. Mycelial fragments and unidentifiable spores were also seen in abundance. Varying allergic responses of patients were also recorded by testing intradermally, the antigens of nineAspergilli, vizAspergillus flavus, A. fumigatus, A. japonicus, A. melleus, A. nidulans, A. niger, A. niveus, A. tammarii and A. terreus.  相似文献

A model system was devised, evaluating the influence that species diversity (species richness) has on fungal establishment and coexistence. Seven members of the fungal phylloplane community of Vaccinium macrocarpon (American cranberry) were selected to assess how species diversity affected development and coexistence of another community member, Pestalotia vaccinii. Pestalotia was engaged in competitive interactions on 1% Malt Extract Agar (MEA) petri dishes with each of the seven individual saprotrophs (two-way interaction), in random combinations with three of the seven saprotrophs (four-way interaction), and in random combinations with five of the seven saprotrophs (six-way interaction). The saprotrophic fungi used in this study were Aspergillus sp., Alternaria alternata, Cladosporium cladosporoides, Curvularia lunata, Epicoccum purpuracens, Penicillium sp., and Pithomyces chartarum. We hypothesized that species diversity would have a significant impact on the establishment and coexistence of Pestalotia vaccinii in culture. In an effort to minimize density-dependent effects, the number of viable spores employed in the three types of interactions was kept constant. Target spore concentrations of 50 viable spores of P. vaccinii and 50 saprotroph spores were used, regardless of the number of species involved in the interaction. This proved to be a very important factor in the experiment. As our results show, species diversity had little or no effect on the establishment and coexistence of Pestalotia vaccinii; however, spore density played an extremely important role in the establishment and development of fungal propagules in our model.  相似文献

Forty species of fungi were recovered from the indoor air of flour mills by exposing petri plates containing potato dextrose, czapek-dox, and sabouraud agar media for 5 minutes. A rotorod sampler was used. The fungal flora of the nearby outdoor environment was also studied for comparison. Species of genus Aspergillus dominated in the mills, being represented by 16 species including one ascosporic species. Other species were of genera Cladosporium and Fusarium. Variations in the fungal population in different months of the survey year were also observed.

Identifiable fungal spores recovered using the rotorod sampler were Alternaria (17% occurrence), Curvularia lunata (10.6%), C. letramera (10%), Cladosporium (19%), Drechslera sp. (9%), Epicoccum sp. (5%), Pithomyces sp. (3%), Nigrospora sp. (10.5%), Stemphylium sp. (4.5%) and Torula sp. (4.5%). Mycelial fragments and unidentifiable spores were also seen in abundance.

Varying allergic responses of patients tested intradermally for the antigens of six Aspergilli, viz., Aspergillus flavus, A. fumigatus, A. melleus, A. niger, A. niveus, and A. terreus were also recorded.  相似文献

As according to ancient Vedic rites, Indians perform ‘Hawan’ every day to purify the atmosphere. Laboratory tests were conducted by exposing petriplates containing czapek dox agar medium, in a closed room, before and after fumigating ‘Hawan samagree’ and plant parts (dried leaves, bark, sawdust) ofMangifera indica, Azadirachta indica andSantanum album. Results showed considerable decrease in concentration of fungal load. This method can be successfully implemented at actual work places like small flour mills, ginneries, cobbler shops etc., to curtail the concentration of lethal fungi likeAspergillus, Penicillium, Alternaria, Curvularia, Cladosporium etc.  相似文献

Qualitative and quantitative studies of atmospheric fungal spores at a chloralkali factory, Jayashree Chemicals. were made during 1993 employing culture plate and rotorod methods. A total of 57 sporulating fungal types, including three sterile mycelial forms, were recorded by the culture plate method and 51 spore types, including the hyphal fragments and unidentified spores, were recorded by the rotorod method. As to the seasonal variation, winter was found to be the greatest contributor of fungal spores as compared to the summer and rainy season. Instead, when considering the hour of the day, the peak number of fungal propagules was recorded at noon (12.00 h) followed by evening and morning values, an exception being recorded in winter months, when maximum CFUs ofCladosporium were monitored in the morning. The seasonal variation in fungal concentration and composition was found to be influenced by temperature, rainfall and relative humidity, whereas diurnal incidence was the effect of varying temperature and relative humidity during day time only. Moderate temperature and relative humidity favoured the maximum fungal spore load in the atmosphere.Cladosporium, Nigrospora, Alternaria, Lasiodiplodia, Drechslera, Pestalotia, Curvularia, Epicoccum, Aspergillus, Penicillium andChaetomium were the commonest fungal spores in the factory area.  相似文献

Airborne fungal spores in the coastal plain of Israel: A preliminary survey   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
Airborne spores were monitored during the years 1993–1995 in three cities along the coastal plain of Israel: Ramat Gan, Tel Aviv (Ramat Aviv) and Haifa. Seasonal fluctuations in the concentration of airborne spores were recorded. The following genera of fungi were identified:Alternaria, Cladosporium, Coprinus, Curvularia, Drechslera. Diplococcum, Epicoccum, Fusarium, Leptosphaeria, Pithomyces, Puccinia, Sphacelotheca, Stemphylium andUstilago. Unidentified spores were very rare and in negligible numbers. The dominant airborne fungal spores wereCladosporium andAlternaria. The monthly variations in airborne spores, observed among the three cities, seem to be rather minor. The recorded levels of airborne spores were below the concentrations that are accepted as threshold levels for provocation of clinical responses.  相似文献

In order to study the species composition of endophytes from wheat healthy plants in Buenos Aires Province (Argentina) and to determine their infection frequencies from leaves, stems, glumes and grains, wheat plants were collected from five cultivars at five growth stages from crop emergence to harvest. A total of 1,750 plant segments (leaves, stems, glumes and grains) were processed from the five wheat cultivars at five growth stages, and 722 isolates of endophytic fungi recovered were identified as 30 fungal genera. Alternaria alternata, Cladosporium herbarum, Epicoccum nigrum, Cryptococcus sp., Rhodotorula rubra, Penicillium sp. and Fusarium graminearum were the fungi that showed the highest colonization frequency (CF%) in all the tissues and organs analysed. The number of taxa isolated was greater in the leaves than those in the other organs analysed.  相似文献

Summary A study of the external and internal fungi associated with different varieties ofSorghum seeds has been made. The varieties tested included eighteen local varieties and twelve newSorghum varieties obtained from the Rockefeller Foundation. The external fungi were studied by preparing suspensions of superficial fungi and growing on potato dextrose agar. The internal fungi were studied by planting surface sterilized seeds on P.D.A. and pure cultures of all these fungi were prepared. The external fungi found to be associated with the different varieties included different species ofPhycomyces, Circinella, Syncephalastrum, Chaetomium, Curvularia, Cladosporium, Helminthosporium, Montospora, Pullularia, Aspergillus, Penicillium, Cephalosporium, Trichoderma, Phoma, Fusarium. The internal fungi recovered from these varieties included species ofChaetomium, Cladosporium, Curvularia, Helminthosporium, Heterosporium, Hormodendron, Pullularia, Alternaria, Aspergillus, Blastomyces, Monilia, Penicillium, Fusarium, Phoma, Phomopsis. Varieties 4403B, 1060 and 503 were found to carry a large number of fungi. Variety Black spanish was found to be entirely free from any internal or external fungus. Varieties which were free from endophytic fungi but possess external fungi only were Kaoling 301, African variety 901 and Shallus 475. Three fungi viz.,Pullularia, Heterosporium, Monilia have been recovered from theSorghum seeds for the first time.  相似文献

Summary Studies employing volumetric spore trap (VSP) and gravity settling culture plates (GSC) were conducted in order to analyse the air spora of a rice mill at Pavia, Italy, from October-December 1988. Results revealed a variety of fungal spores belonging to different genera and including recognized rice pathogenic fungi. The most frequent genera by GSC method includedAcremonium, Alternaria, Aspergillus, Aureobasidium, Cladosporium, Epicoccum, Fusarium, Helminthosporium, Mucor, Nigrospora, Penicillium, Rhizopus, Trichoderma, Trichothecium, and some unidentified fungi. Environmental assessment of fungal spores by VSP revealed that the most prevalent fungi were:Alternaria, Cladosporium, Epicoccum, Helminthosporium, Nigrospora, Pyricularia, Tilletia and hyaline, dark and coloured types of ascospores and basidiospores. Airborne fungal spore concentrations were particularly high (5,000–6,000 spores/m3) in the rooms of the rice mill where the initial stages of rough rice transformation take place, and dropped to 2,500 spores/m3 in the last room, where workers are. During a temporary interruption of the working processes, air spora concentration dropped below 1,000 spores/m3.Cladosporium, Epicoccum andNigrospora spores were predominant in all subdivisions of the indoor environments of the rice mill.  相似文献

Thrypticus truncatus is a candidate agent for biocontrol of waterhyacinth; the larvae of this diptera mine in the petioles and feed on the phloem in the vascular bundles. The mycobiota associated with T. truncatus and T. sagittatus mines was investigated during two surveys undertaken in the spring and autumn in the Delta of the Paraná River, Argentina. Isolations were made from the mines and larval feeding points, as well as from the larvae, following dissection of the petioles, and plated onto agar. Young and upper parts of the petioles without Thrypticus mines were used as controls. Twenty eight fungal species were isolated from the mines. Pestalotiopsis guepinii, Mucor attenuatus, Phoma tropica, Achlya americana, Fusarium avenaceum, Cladosporium cladosporioides, Clonostachys rosea, Epicoccum purpurascens, Plectosporium tabacinum, Alternaria alternata, and Acremonium sp. were the most common fungi associated with mines and feeding points. Cladosporium cladosporioides, Cytospora sp., Mucor attenuatus, and Phoma tropica were associated with the larval body. The list of fungi in mines was compared with bibliographic information to determine if the species are known pathogens on waterhyacinth or other plant species. This is the first study on mycobiota associated with T. truncatus and T. sagittatus mines in waterhyacinth petioles in Argentina.  相似文献

Fungal endophytes were isolated from surface sterilised leaf segments of five medicinal plants collected from Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, India. A total of 373 fungal strains belonging to 15 fungal genera and 18 species, Aspergillus niger, A. flavus, A. clavatus, A. variecolor, Penicillium chrsogenum, Alternaria alternata, Curvularia lunata, Haplosporium sp., Phoma sp., Nigrospora sp., Colletotrichum sp., Cladosporium sp., Stemphylium sp., Fusarium sp., Geotrichum sp., Phomopsis sp., Trichoderma sp., Rhizopus sp. and some sterile mycelium were isolated from all the plants. The relative frequency, isolation rate and colonisation rates of endophytes were used to study the endophytic diversity. The results showed that the highest colonisation rate (93.05%) was observed in Adhathoda vasica, while it was 91.66% in Ocimum sanctum, 85% in Viola odorata, 82.81% Cannabis sativa and lowest (61.11%) in Withania somnifera. Moreover, reading the richness and diversity of the endophytic fungi, the highest was obtained for O. sanctum, W. somnifera and C. sativa having eight species each, while lowest (6 and 4) was obtained from A. vasica and V. odorata, respectively. As the role of endophytic organisms in defensive mechanisms of plants is now well established, the present study is an important step to find new and interesting endophytes among the medicinal plants.  相似文献

The dynamics of the fungal symbionts in the gallery system and the mycangia of the ambrosia beetle,Xylosandrus mutilatus, were studied in relation to its life history using both isolation experiments and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In the galleries,Ambrosiella sp. was predominant during the larval stages but its relative dominance gradually decreased during the development of the larvae. In contrast, yeasts (mainlyCandida sp.) andPaecilomyces sp. dominated continuously in the galleries after eclosion.Ambrosiella sp. was consistently stored in the mycangia in all adult stages, except in the teneral and overwintering adults when the other fungi were dominant. No fungal spores occurred in the mycangia of the adult beetles reared under aseptic conditions from the pupal stage, while onlyAmbrosiella sp. was stored in those reared from the teneral-adult stage. These results suggest that: (i) Xmutilatus is associated with at least three fungal species, among whichAmbrosiella sp. is the most essential food resource for development of the broods; (ii) immediately after eclosion, new female adults may take at least four associated fungal species, with no or incomplete selection, into their mycangia from the walls of the cradles; and (iii) conditions may well be produced in the mycangia of both matured and dispersing beetles whereby only the spores ofAmbrosiella sp. can proliferate.  相似文献

Aerobiological studies at three different indoor sitesviz., food grain godowns, library building and bakerywere carried out. The main objective of the study wasto find out the fungal flora at these places and itsimpact on the organic materials which are stored /processed there. The study reveals that over 40fungal types prevail in such organic matter richenvirons. The incidence of fungi was found to befluctuating according to months and seasons. Studieswere carried out by Andersen two stage sampler. Maximum spore concentration was observed in thelibrary followed by bakery and food grain godowns. Common spore types belonged to the species of Aspergillus. Alternaria, Cladosporium,Helminthosporium, Curvularia, Rhizopus etc. Suchfungi are mainly responsible for the deterioration ofpaper materials in library and food grains in godowns. Bakery products also get contaminated with a goodnumber of fungi types. The people working at suchplaces also get allergic due to these fungalcomponents.  相似文献

Eucalyptus citriodora Hook, is frequently cultivated tree in India for its wood and medicinal usages. The endophytic and epiphytic fungi were estimated from healthy leaves of E. citriodora growing in the premise of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. A total of 33 fungal species were isolated from leaf segments. Of 33 taxa, 20 were recorded as endophytes, while 22 as epiphytes. Nine, out of 33 species were found to be common in leaf tissues and surfaces (Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus fumigatus, A. terreus, Cladosporium cladosporioides, Drechslera rostrata, Humicola grisea, Nigrospora oryzae, Penicillium cristata, and Pestalotia sp.). Out of 478 fungal isolates, 279 were epiphytic while only 199 were endophytic. Most isolates were anamorphic filamentous fungi which often don’t produce sexual spores. The Sorensen’s index of similarity between endophytes and epiphytes (leaf surface colonizers) was found to be at 0.300. Diversity index of fungal species was higher in endophytes than epiphytes. The frequency of colonization differs greatly in both myco-populations. Cladosporium cladosporioides (26%) was dominant species on leaf surfaces while Botrytis cinerea (10.5%) was dominant in leaf tissues. Out of 16 endophytic isolates evaluated for antagonistic test, 8 (50%) gave the antagonistic activity against variety of fungi representing pathogens to both humans and plants.  相似文献

The frequency of fungal spores in the air of three different sections of a rural bakery was analyzed using a Burkard personal slide sampler and Andersen two stage viable sampler. In average concentration of spores (No./m3) was 228–26770/m3 and concentration of viable colony forming units (CFU/m3) was 65-2061 CFU/m3. Dominant fungus species both culturable and nonculturable, were species of Aspergillus and Penicillium, Cladosporiumsp., Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus fumigatus, Cladosporium cladosporioides, Penicillium citrinum and Alternaria alternata. Seasonal variations in the spore concentrations were clearly observed in case of some fungi. Total culturable mould concentration of different bakery sections sometimes exceeded the acceptable limit for a healthy indoor environment. Antigenic extracts prepared from some dominant culturable fungi showed high level of allergenicity in skin prick tests indicating that they could be responsible for allergic respiratory dysfunction of bakery workers. This revised version was published online in October 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

A comparative survey of airborne fungal spores in fiveindoor and five outdoor environments in Burdwan, WestBengal, India, was carried out for a period of twoyears using rotorod samplers and sedimentation plates(culture plate). A total of 29 spore types wereidentified, of which three were Phycomycetous (Mucor, Rhizopus, Syncephalastrum), one Ascomycetous(Chaetomium), one Basidiomycetous (Ganoderma) and the remainder were Fungi Imperfecti. The results revealed lowest count during summer andmaximum during the rainy season. Aspergilluswas quite abundant in all the environments surveyed. The predominance of Aspergillus, Curvularia,Alternaria, Cladosporium, Drechslera, Fusarium in allthe surveyed environments has been attributed to theirability to grow in various substrata. The occurrenceof Cladosporium in the winter months suggestthat it is sensitive to high temperature. Allspore types were common in both environmentsexcept Bispora, Cercospora, Papularia, Spegazzinia, Trichothecium in the outdoor sites. Acorrelation has been made between the volumetriccomposition of airspora and the incidence of seasonalmold allergy.  相似文献
