Two new triterpenoids from Rhodomyrtus tomentosa

Repetition of an investigation of the petrol extracts of Rhodomyrtus tomentosa has led to the isolation of two new triterpenoids, R₄ from the leaves and R₅ from the stems besides R₁, R₂, R₃ and the other known compounds already reported. R₁ and R₄ were proved to be 21α$\text{H}$-hop-22(29)en-3β,30-diol and 3β-hydroxy-21α$\text{H}$-hop-22(29)-en-30-al respectively, and R₂, R₃ and R₅ are 3β-acetoxy-11α,12α-epoxyoleanan-28,13β-olide, 3β-acetoxy-12α-hydroxyoleanan-28, 13β-olide and 3β-acetoxy-12-oxo-oleanan-28,13β- olide respectively. The ethanol extract of the leaves contained betulinic, ursolic and aliphitolic acids and that of the stems betulonic, betulinic and oleanolic acids.     

Three verrucosane diterpenoids,verrucosane triol and related compounds from the liverwort Mylia verrucosa

Three new diterpenoids of the verrucosane class were isolated as minor constituents of the methanol extract of the liverwort Mylia verrucosa and their structures shown to be 2β,9α,13β-trihydroxyverrucosane,9α-acetoxy-2β,13β-dihydroxyverrucosane and 2β,13β-dihydroxy-9-oxoverrucosane.     

The structures of garcinones a,b and c: Three new xanthones from Garcinia mangostana

Three new tetraoxygenated xanthones (garcinones A, B and C), each disubstituted with C₅-units, have been isolated from the chloroform extract of the fruit-hulls of Garcinia mangostana. Their structures were established by a combination of spectral interpretation and chemical correlation.     

Triterpenoids from Salvia phlomoides, three new lupane derivatives

Three new triterpenoids have been isolated from the aerial parts of Salvia phlomoides. Their structures have been established by chemical and spectroscopic means and by correlation with known products as lupane-3β,11α,20-triol, 3β-acetoxy-lupane-11α,20-diol and 3-keto-lupane-11α,20-diol.     

Three triterpenes and other terpenoids from Catha cassinoides

The investigation of stems and leaves of Catha cassinoides afforded, in addition to sitosterol, β-amyrin, ursolic acid, lup-20(29)-en-3β,30-diol and friedelin, three new pentacyclic triterpenes: 30-hydroxyfriedelan-3-one, 29-hydroxyfriedelan-3-one and 3-oxo-friedelan-29-oic acid. The structures ofthese were determined by spectral studies and correlations, and were confirmed by X-ray analysis of 29-hydroxyfriedelan-3-one acetate.     

A New Baccharane-Type Triterpenoid Isolated from the Roots of Saussurea lappa C. B. Clarke

A new baccharane-type triterpene, 3β-acetoxy-9 (11)-baccharene (1), as well as a known compound, α-amyrin(2), has been isolated from the ether extract of the roots of Saussurea lappa C.B. Clarke. The structure of the new compound was identified by spectrum analysis.     

Three bridged 14β,26-epoxy-C-homo-pentacyclic triterpenes from Primula rosea

Three new bridged 14β,26-epoxy-C-homo-pentacyclic triterpenes isolated from Primula rosea have been shown to be 14β,26-epoxy-serratane-3,21-dione, 21α-hydroxy-14β,26-epoxy-serratane-3-one and 21β-hydroxy-14β,26-epoxy-serratane-3-one, respectively, on the basis of ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR and mass spectral and chemical evidence.     

Triterpenoids from Salvia pinnata

A new and four known triterpenoids have been isolated from the leaves of Salvia pinnata. The structures of these compounds have been established by spectral data and by some chemical reactions.     

The identification and quantification of three new 6alpha-hydroxylated corticosteroids in human neonatal urine

The 24 hours urines of six two days old fullterm newborn infants were investigated for polar corticosteroids. 6alpha-hydroxy-tetrahydrocortisone, 6alpha-hydroxy-20alpha-cortolone and 6alpha-hydroxy-20beta-cortolone were identified by gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric comparison of the urinary steroids to compounds synthesized previously. These 6alpha-hydroxylated corticosteroids as well as seven other polar corticosteroids were quantified by gas chromatography or mass fragmentography. It was shown that the newly identified steroids constituted a quantitatively important part of the neonatal urinary corticosteroids. The unconjugated- and glucuronic acid conjugated steroids were quantified separately. It was found that the extent of glucuronoconjugation decreased with increasing polarity of the steroid moiety.     

Cytotoxic triterpenes from the twigs of Celtis philippinensis

Two triterpene esters, 3beta-trans-sinapoyloxylup-20(29)-en-28-ol (1) and 3beta-trans-feruloyloxy-16 beta-hydroxylup-20(29)-ene (2), were isolated as cytotoxic constituents from the chloroform-soluble extract of the twigs of Celtis philippinensis, along with five known triterpenes, 3beta-O-(E)-feruloylbetulin (3), 3beta-O-(E)-coumaroylbetulin (4), betulin (5), 20-epibryonolic acid (6), and ursolic acid (7). The structures of 1 and 2 were assigned from their 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data. All isolates were evaluated for cytotoxicity against several human cancer cell lines.     

3α, 11α-Dihydroxy-23-oxo-lup-20(29)-en-28-oic acid from Acanthopanax trifoliatus

The new triterpene 3α,11α-dihydroxy-23-oxo-lup-20(29)-en-28-oic acid was isolated from Acanthopanax trifoliatus. Its structure has been determined on the basis of spectroscopic data and chemical transformations.     

A lupenediol from Euonymus revolutus

A new lupane derivative isolated from Euonymus revolutus (Celastraceae) has been established to be 2α,3α-dihydroxy-lup-20(29)-en-28-oic acid on the basis of chemical interconversions and spectroscopic data.     

5α-Stigmast-9(11)-en-3β-ol,a sterol from Costus speciosus roots

A new sterol isolated from Costus species roots has been characterized as 5α-stigmast-9(11)-en-3β-ol by spectroscopic data and chemical studies.     

Triterpenoids of Pterocarpus santalinus: Constitution of a new lupene diol

The bark of Pterocarpus santalinus has been found to contain β-amyrone, lupenone, epi-lupeol, lupeol, sitosterol and a new lupene diol whose constitution has been established as lup-(20)29-en-2α,3α-diol.
