We investigated the concentrations of particulate Al, Si, P, S, K, Ca, Ti, Mn, and Fe at various areas of Lake Biwa, such as the limnetic zone in the northern basin, the offshore zone, the dredged area and Akanoi Bay in the southern basin, and reed community areas in the shore. In the wide and deep northern basin, the density of suspended solids was low, and substantial fractions of particulate Si, P, S, and Ca were biogenic matter produced by phytoplankton. In the offshore zone in the narrow and shallow southern basin, the concentration ratios of particulate Si, K, Ca, Ti, and Fe against particulate Al were almost constant throughout the year and were similar to those found in crusts. Therefore, these elements are most likely derived from terrigenous clay matter. In the dredged area where the hypolimnion became anoxic during the stratification period, the concentrations of particulate Fe, Mn, P, S, and Ca increased because of the formation of hydrous Fe and Mn oxides and Fe sulfide. In Akanoi Bay, the ratios of Mn/Al and Fe/Al were high because of the stirring of sediments enriched with Mn and Fe oxides. In the reed community areas, the concentration of suspended solids correlated well with particulate Fe and P, but not with Al or chlorophyll a; therefore these areas seem to be rich in humic organic matter enriched with P and Fe due to microbial activity. Thus, the elemental composition of suspended solids reflects the chemical, biological, and physical processes in the lake and gives us useful indices of the characteristics of the water. The seasonal dynamics of uptake, partitioning and redistributionof dry matter, N, P, K, S, Ca, Mg, Na, Cl, Fe, Zn, Mn and Cuby the cormaceous plant Ixia flexuosa were studied in pot cultureat Perth, Western Australia. Dry matter and P, N, K, Zn andCu were redistributed from the mother corm with about 90 percent net efficiency: there was no net redistribution of Ca,Na, Fe or Mn. The efficiency of redistribution from the leafyshoot to fruits and the new season's corm was 80 per cent forN and P, 24–49 per cent for K, Cu and Zn, and 0–15per cent for Na, Fe, Ca, Mn, Cl, Mg, S and dry matter. Redistributionfrom the mother corm and vegetative organs could have suppliedthe replacement corm, cormlets and fruits with 32–53 percent of their S, K, P, N, Cu and Zn, and 11–25 per centof their Ca, Cl, Mn, Mg and dry matter. The mature replacementcorm had over 60 per cent of the plant's N and P, 25–50per cent of its dry matter, Zn, Cu, Mg, K and Cl, but less than20 per cent of its Ca, Na, Fe and Mn. Each plant produced anaverage of 12 cormlets; these had 35 per cent of the dry matterand 23–47 per cent of the amount of a particular nutrientin the new season's corms. Fruits had less than 16 per centof the dry matter and each mineral in the mature plant. Ratesof mineral intake by Ixia were much lower than reported forcrop plants, and may be related to the long growing season ofthe species. Effects of coralline lime, in combination with 3 kg Cu ha−1 plus 3 kg Zn ha−1, on yield and nutrient uptake by peanut (Arachis hypogea) were studied at three locations in Western Samoa. Coarse (0–10 mm) coralline lime material containing 31.1% Ca and 1.7% Mg was used as lime at 0, 555, 2222 and 5000 kg ha−1. In the Togitogiga soil, which had the lowest level of exchangeable Ca, peanut yield increased by 6 fold after liming with 555 kg ha−1, relative to the unamended control. This yield increase was associated with reduced Mn toxicity as well as reduced Ca deficiency. The alleviation of Mn toxicity was not likely due to decreased Mn solubility because the lime application (555 kg ha−1) increased soil pH by <0.1 unit. Rather it was the increased Ca availability which reduced the Mn toxicity through a Ca/Mn antagonism. The critical range of exchangeable Ca for peanut growth was found to be about 1.5–1.6 cmol 1/2Ca2+ kg−1. A Ca/Mn-ratio >80 was required for a desirable Ca/Mn balance in peanut tissue. On the other two locations (with exchangeable Ca levels of 1.5–1.6 cmol 1/2Ca2+ kg−1), liming increased peanut yields by 15–20%. Additions of Cu plus Zn also increased the yields, although the increases were small (7%) and not significant at the 95% probability level. This research was made possible by Grant No. 936-5542-G-SS-9092 from the Program in Science and Technology Cooperation, AID/ST/AGR, U.S. Agency for International Development.  相似文献

Long-term nutrients and chlorophyll-a dynamics during 1993–2000 were analyzed in a temperate reservoir influenced by the Asian monsoon. Nonparametric Mann–Kendall tests and seasonal trend analyses indicated that there were no long-term annual increasing or decreasing trends in major trophic parameters over 8 years, but the monsoon seasonality was evident. Seasonality in chlorophyll (CHL) and total phosphorus (TP) showed a mono-modal pattern, which was closely associated with the monsoon season of July–August, and the magnitude of the mono-modal peak was greater in the headwater zone than in the downlake zone. Such temporal patterns fluctuated interannually over the study period, and the magnitude of the variation was directly controlled by the intensity of the monsoon rain. Empirical models of annual mean CHL–TP were developed supporting the view that phytoplankton in lentic ecosystems responds to P enrichment and that annual mean TP may provide a reliable basis for predicting the average algal abundance. Ambient nutrient analyses, N:P ratios and in situ nutrient enrichment bioassay experiments (NEBs) in premonsoon and postmonsoon supported the P limitation for phytoplankton growth. Ambient nutrients and non-volatile suspended solid (NVSS) data on CHL in the intense monsoon year, however, showed the possibility of light limitation, even though the NEBs did not show the direct evidence. These findings were confirmed by two-dimensional graphic approaches of trophic state index deviations (TSIDs).  相似文献

The use of periphyton nitrogenase activity (biological N2 fixation) as an indicator of wetland P impact was assessed using patterns of nutrient content (C, N, P, Ca, Mg, K, Fe, and Mn) and acetylene reduction (AR) in floating cyanobacterial periphyton mat (metaphyton) communities of a P-enriched portion of the Florida Everglades, USA (Water Conservation Area-2A, WCA-2A). Spatial patterns of nutrients indicate the enrichment of floating mat periphyton N, P, Fe, and K, and the reduction of Mn and TN:TP in enriched marsh areas. In highly enriched areas, floating mat periphyton AR was approximately threefold greater than that in less enriched, interior marsh zones. Multiple regression models indicated AR dependence on P in eutrophic WCA-2A areas while the AR of more interior marsh periphyton mats was more closely related to tissue levels of Ca and Fe. Nitrogenase activity of floating mat periphyton from P-loaded mesocosms revealed a significant enhancement of N2 fixation in samples receiving approximately 2–3 mg P m−2 of cumulative P dosing or with biomass TP content of 100–300 mg kg−1. At P contents above the optimum, mat periphyton AR was suppressed possibly as a result of changes in species composition or increased levels of NH4+. After 3 years of dosing, consistently high AR occurred only at low rates of P enrichment (0.4–0.8 g P m−2 yr−1), and the patterns appeared to be seasonal. These findings agree with the hypothesis that P availability is a key determinant of nitrogenase activity in aquatic systems, and thus, may support the use of periphyton nitrogenase to indicate P impacts in P-limited systems. These results also demonstrate the potential existence of a P threshhold for biogeochemical alteration of periphyton mat function in the Everglades, and that cumulative loading of limiting nutrients (i.e., P), rather than instantaneous concentrations, should be considered when evaluating nutrient criteria.  相似文献

Cultivating algae on nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) in animal manure effluents presents an alternative to the current practice of land application. The objective of this study was to determine how algal productivity, nutrient removal efficiency, and elemental composition of turf algae change in response to different loading rates of raw swine manure effluent. Algal biomass was harvested weekly from laboratory scale algal turf scrubber units using four manure effluent loading rates (0.24, 0.40, 0.62 and 1.2 L m−2 d−1) corresponding to daily loading rates of 0.3–1.4 g total N and 0.08–0.42 g total P. Mean algal productivity values increased from 7.1 g DW m−2 d−1 at the lowest loading rate (0.24 L m−2 d−1) to 9.4 g DW m−2 d−1 at the second loading rate (0.40 L m−2 d−1). At these loading rates, algal N and P accounted for> 90% of input N and 68–76% of input P, respectively. However, at higher loading rates algal productivity did not increase and was unstable at the highest loading rate. Mean N and P contents in the dried biomass increased 1.5 to 2.0-fold with increasing loading rate up to maximums of 5.7% N and 1.8% P at 1.2 L m−2 d−1. Biomass concentrations of Al, Ca, Cd, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Mo, Si, and Zn increased 1.2 to 2.6-fold over the 5-fold range of loading rate. Biomass concentrations of Cd, K, Pb, and Si did not increase significantly with loading rate. At the loading rate of 0.40 L m−2 d−1 (corresponding to peak productivity) the mean concentrations of individual components in the algal biomass were (in mg kg−1): 250 (Al), 4900 (Ca), 0.30 (Cd), 1050 (Fe), 3.4 (Pb), 2500 (Mg), 105 (Mn), 6.0 (Mo), 7,500 (K), and 510 (Zn). At these concentrations, heavy metals in the algal biomass would not be expected to reduce its value as a soil or feed amendment.  相似文献

Nutrient concentrations in current and 1-year old needles from two Picea abies (L.) Karst and two Pinus sylvestris L. stands in Sweden were determined 8–10, 16–18 and 22–24 years after clear-felling and experimental manipulation of harvesting intensity. On all sites, three levels of harvest intensity had been applied in a randomized block design (n=4); (i) conventional stem-only harvesting, where all logging residues (i.e. tops, branches and needles) were evenly distributed on the ground, (ii) harvesting all above-ground tree parts except needles and (iii) above-ground whole-tree harvesting (no residues left on site). At stand age 8–10 years, nitrogen concentrations in the current year needles in plots where all residues or needles only were retained were higher than in whole-tree harvested plots, whereas concentrations of K, Ca and Mg were lower. The latter response was interpreted as a dilution effect. P:N, K:N, Ca:N, Mg:N, Mn:N and Zn:N were in general higher after whole-tree harvesting treatments than after the treatments where all residues or only needles had been left on site. At stand age 16–18 years, no significant differences in nitrogen concentrations were observed between treatments, but the levels of Ca, Mg and Mn in both current and 1-year-old needles were lower after whole-tree harvesting than after the treatments where logging residues remained on site. By contrast, potassium levels in the foliage were highest in treatments where only the needles were left on site, whereas the lowest levels were observed for treatments where all residues was left. At stand age 22–24 years, the treatment effects had diminished, except for the effects on Ca and K on the southern Norway spruce stand. It is concluded that the nutrient release from logging residues enhances nutrient uptake in trees of the succeeding forest generation, but this effect does not occur simultaneously for all elements. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Numbers of oligotrophic bacteria (on ‘Microcosm-agar’, a low nutrient medium) fluctuated between 4.4 and 88.103 cfu · ml−1 during 1977–1979. The measured environmental variables (water level, suspended solids, temperature, conductivity, pH and phosphate), explained 79% of this variability. The epipsammic, free-living, mesophilic (35 °C), oligotrophic and psychotrophic bacteria (3 °C) were also quantified. The partial correlation analysis showed that the main factor influencing the epipsammic population was one directly linked to rainfall: the suspended solids concentration (r = 0.826, p < 0.001). This suggests that these oligotrophs are predominantly terrestrial in origin and that the river would mainly represent a means of transport. The presence of free-living was more closely related to the nutritional charateristics of the environment, thus allowing to consider them as ‘autochtonous’ oligotrophic bacteria. The significant correlations between oligotrophs and some other ecological-trophic groups (hyper- and mesotrophic) suggest that their presence is controlled by common environmental factors.  相似文献

Phosphorus (P) dynamics in large shallow lakes are greatly influenced by physical processes such as wind-driven sediment resuspension, at times scales from hours to years. Results from long-term (30 year) research on Lake Okeechobee, Florida (area 1,730 km2, mean depth 2.7 m) illustrate key features of these P dynamics. Variations in wind velocity result in changes in water column transparency, suspended solids, and total P (TP). In summer there are diurnal changes in TP associated with afternoon winds, and in winter, when strong winds occur for multiple days, monthly average TP remains high compared to summer. The magnitude of daily and seasonal TP changes can exceed 100 μg l−1. Hurricanes and tropical storms also cause extreme changes in TP that are superimposed on seasonal dynamics. When a hurricane passed 80 km south of the lake in October 1999, mean pelagic TP increased from 88 to 222 μg l−1. During large resuspension events, light attenuation is substantially increased, and this influences the biomass and spatial extent of submerged plants, as well as water column TP. In Lake Okeechobee, TP concentrations typically are ∼20 μg l−1 when submerged plants are dense, and soluble reactive P concentrations are reduced below detection, perhaps by the periphyton and plant uptake and by precipitation with calcium at high pH. In contrast, TP exceeds 50 μg l−1 when submerged plants and periphyton are absent due to prolonged deep water, and phytoplankton biomass and algal bloom frequency both are increased. In Lake Okeechobee and other large shallow lakes, complex models that explicitly consider wind-wave energy, hydrodynamics, and sediment resuspension, transport, and key biological processes are needed to accurately predict how lake water TP will respond to different management options.  相似文献

Ground vegetation may act as a sink for nutrients after clear-cutting and thus decrease leaching losses. Biomass and nutrient (N, P, K, Ca) pools of ground vegetation (mosses, roots and above-ground parts of field layer) were determined one year before and five years after clear-cutting of a Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) H. Karst.) dominated boreal mixed forest stand in eastern Finland (63°51′ N, 28°58′ E). Before clear-cutting the average biomass of ground vegetation was 5307 kg ha−1, with nutrient contents of 46.9 kg N ha−11, 4.1 kg P ha−11, 16.2 kg K ha−11 and 13.9 kg Ca ha−11. The biomass and nutrient pools decreased after clear-cutting being lowest in the second year, the biomass decreasing by 46–65% in the cut plots. The nutrient pools decreased as follows: N 54–72%, P 36–68%, K 51–71% and Ca 57–74%. The decrease in ground vegetation nutrient uptake, and the observed reduced depth of rooting may decrease nutrient retention after clear-cutting and decomposing dead ground vegetation is a potential source of leached nutrients. These negative effects of clear-cutting on the nutrient binding capacity of ground vegetation was short-lived since the total biomass and nutrient pools returned to pre-cutting levels or were even greater by the end of the 5-year study period.  相似文献

In shallow ecosystems, the short temporal variability of available underwater irradiance is considered a major process controlling submerged macrophytes development. Mechanistic models that estimate photosynthetically available radiation (PAR) in shallow ecosystems at very short time scales are needed for use in predicting submerged macrophyte growth and persistence. We coupled a 2D horizontal circulation model with, first, a 1D vertical numerical model of suspended solid (SS) re-suspension, diffusion and settling, and next, with a model of vertical extinction of irradiance, previously validated at the same site. The study site was the Vaccarès lagoon (France) where a large data set of high frequency bottom irradiance and SS concentration were available. SS and irradiance measurements were conducted at a vertical study station, monitored over a 6 month period (from December 1995 to May 1996) characterized by wide-ranging wind velocities (1.5–18 ms−1). In addition, grain-size analyses conducted over the whole lagoon, allowed adaptation of the 1D numerical model to the silt-sized (7 μm) and clay-sized (0.3 μm) fractions that prevail in the local sediment. First, model results showed that about 60% of the variance in bottom irradiance time series can be explained by our deterministic formulations, thus representing the same level of efficiency than those already obtained by a stochastic model previously developed with the same data set. Second, model results showed that the fit of the model to the field data (SS concentrations and bottom irradiance) depended mainly on storm occurrence and season (winter or spring). Finally, model results suggested that the underwater irradiance regime was controlled by seasonal succession of the horizontal circulation of turbid water in the lagoon, with increased solids concentrations in winter, followed by submerged canopy development and decreased solids concentrations in spring.  相似文献

Summary The relationship between the EUF-nutrient fractions in the soil on the one hand and the nutrient uptake of sugar beet as well as root yield and quality (polarization, α-amino N etc.) on the other is described on the basis of results obtained over several years in surveys conducted in farmers' fields (5000–6000 fields under sugar beet per year) and in field experiments (25–35 sites per year). Statistically significant close correlations with the respective parameters were found for the following EUF nutrient fractions: EUF-NO3, EUF-P, EUF-K, EUF-Na, EUF-B and EUF-Mn. Within five years it was possible to determine the EUF-nutrient values which are required for the production of 9 t sugar/ha. These EUF values are the following: Ca: 65–70 mg/100 g at 20°C K: 11–15 mg/100 g at 20°C (depending on the clay content) Mg: 3–5 mg/100 g at 20°C Na: 2–3 mg/100 g at 20°C P: 1.4–1.6 mg/100 g at 20°C For calculation of the N fertilizer requirements of sugar beet it is suggested to use the sum of the EUF-extractable N amounts. It was found in Austria, Yugoslavia and Denmark over a period of 3 years that the EUF-N value of 1 mg/100 g soil determined between June and September was equivalent to 40 kg N/ha. If, for example, the analysed soil contains 3 mg EUF-N/100 g, 3×40=120 kg N/ha will be available to the sugar beet crop in the following year.  相似文献

The Salton Sea is a hypersaline lake located in southeastern California. Concerns over the ecological impacts of sediment quality and potential human exposure to dust emissions from exposed lakebed sediments resulting from anticipated shrinking of shoreline led to a study of pesticide distribution and transport within the Salton Sea Basin, California, in 2001–2002. Three sampling stations—upriver, river mouth, and offshore—were established along each of the three major rivers that discharge into the Salton Sea. Large-volume water samples were collected for analysis of pesticides in water and suspended sediments at the nine sampling stations. Samples of the bottom sediment were also collected at each site for pesticide analysis. Sampling occurred in October 2001, March–April 2002, and October 2002, coinciding with the regional fall and spring peaks in pesticide use in the heavily agricultural watershed. Fourteen current-use pesticides were detected in water and the majority of dissolved concentrations ranged from the limits of detection to 151 ng/l. Diazinon, EPTC and malathion were detected at much higher concentrations (940–3,830 ng/l) at the New and Alamo River upriver and near-shore stations. Concentrations of carbaryl, dacthal, diazinon, and EPTC were higher in the two fall sampling periods, whereas concentrations of atrazine, carbofuran, and trifluralin were higher during the spring, which matched seasonal use patterns of these pesticides. Current-use pesticides were also detected on suspended and bed sediments in concentrations ranging from detection limits to 106 ng/g. Chlorpyrifos, dacthal, EPTC, trifluralin, and DDE were the most frequently detected pesticides on sediments from all three rivers. The number of detections and concentrations of suspended sediment-associated pesticides were often similar for the river upriver and near-shore sites, consistent with downstream transport of pesticides via suspended sediment. While detectable suspended sediment pesticide concentrations were more sporadic than detected aqueous concentrations, seasonal trends were similar to those for dissolved concentrations. Generally, the pesticides detected on suspended sediments were the same as those on the bed sediments, and concentrations were similar, especially at the Alamo River upriver site. With a few exceptions, pesticides were not detected in suspended or bed sediments from the off-shore sites. The partitioning of pesticides between water and sediment was not predictable from solely the physical–chemical properties of individual pesticide compounds, but appear to be a complicated function of the quantity of pesticide applied in the watershed, residence time of sediments in the water, and compound solubility and hydrophobicity. Sediment concentrations of most pesticides were found to be 100–1,000 times lower than the low-effects levels determined in human health risk assessment studies. However, maximum concentrations of chlorpyrifos on suspended sediments were approximately half the low-effects level, suggesting the need for further sediment characterization of lake sediments proximate to riverine inputs. Water and sediment samples were collected from 18 sampling stations in Wadi Gaza for two successive years in order to: (1) Establish a baseline condition of the geochemistry of surface water and sediments; (2) assess the impact of seasonal variation on distribution of heavy metals and major ions; and (3) identify possible natural and anthropogenic sources of pollution. The heavy metal concentrations in the sediments of the lake (downstream) were higher than those of the eastern eight stations(upstream) where the water was shallower. Shallower areas showed greater temporal variation than deeper areas. Several elements (P, Fe, Mn and As) showed the greatest temporal variability. For example, in the winter rainy season these elements decreased 2–10 times compared to their values in summer. Moreover, Ca, Na, Cl, PO4, and NO3 decreased3, 3, 5, 2, 4 times, respectively. Some of the trace metals were more abundant in these waters compared to the domestic wastewaters of the study area. The averages of Cd and Co were 6 and 43 μg/l, respectively and they were 50 times higher than the domestic wastewater results. The discharge of olive oil mill wastewater was recorded in the Ca, Na, Mg, K and P concentrations in sediments of one of the sampling stations.  相似文献

Forage barley dry matter yield and quality, as well as soil pH, Al, and Mn were monitored in response to P, K, and lime application on a newly cleared Typic Cryorthod (Orthid Podzol). The overall yearly yield level was affected by precipitation. Without liming soil acidification occurred after three years of production. The liming rate of 2.2 Mg.ha−1 was found optimal for maintaining initial pH levels (5.66) and increasing forage barley yields. It was also found optimum for K and P utilization for these first years of production. Soil pH dropped an average of 0.33 units over the three years on unlimed P plots and 0.46 units over 4 years on K plots. Phosphorus and K fertilization increased N utilization and resulted in decreased soil acidification. Phosphorus availability was greater in the first year of cropping than in subsequent years, this was likely due to the effects of higher available moisture, liming release of native P, and effects of initial fertilization. There was a 148% increase in total dry matter yield and an 85% increase in protein yield of forage barley with P application. Liming increased total forage barley yields an average of 69% and total protein yields 48%. Reduced barley yields in unlimed plots were due to low soil pH. After two years of cultivation, unlimed plots contained exchangeable Al and soluble Mn levels reported toxic for other soils. The higher liming rates of 4.4 and 6.6 Mg.ha−1 reduced soluble Mn to near critically low levels. soil Al and Mn were highly correlated to pH. Soil exchangeable Al, Mn, and soluble Mn along with tissue Al were inversely correlated to percentage yield. The average yield respone to three levels of applied K, increased from zero initially to 67% by the fourth year. Total dry-matter production increased 32% and total protein yield increased an average of 32% and total protein yield increased an average of 15% with K fertilization over four years. About 60% of the yield response occurred between the 0 and 22kg K.ha−1 rates. Initial soil exchangeable K levels were not maintained even at the highest 66kg K.ha−1 treatment. Soil exchangeable Al and soluble Mn were elevated with dropping pH. Soil K reserves and resupply of exchangeable K in these soils over the long term will be an important factor in crop production.  相似文献

Geochemistry of iron in the Salton Sea,California   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The Salton Sea is a large, saline, closed-basin lake in southern California. The Sea receives agricultural runoff and, to a lesser extent, municipal wastewater that is high in nutrients, salt, and suspended solids. High sulfate concentrations (4× higher than that of the ocean), coupled with warm temperatures and low-redox potentials present during much of the year, result in extensive sulfate reduction and hydrogen sulfide production. Hydrogen sulfide formation may have a dramatic effect on the iron (Fe) geochemistry in the Sea. We hypothesized that the Fe(II)-sulfide minerals should dominate the iron mineralogy of the sediments, and plans to increase hypolimnetic aeration would increase the amount of Fe(III)-oxides, which are strong adsorbers of phosphate. Sequential chemical extractions were used to differentiate iron mineralogy in the lake sediments and suspended solids from the tributary rivers. Iron in the river-borne suspended solids was mainly associated with structural iron within silicate clays (70%) and ferric oxides (30%). The iron in the bottom sediments of the lake was associated with silicate minerals (71% of the total iron in the sediments), framboidal pyrite (10%), greigite (11%), and amorphous FeS (5%). The ferric oxide fraction was <4% of the total iron in these anaerobic sediments. The morphological characteristics of the framboidal pyrite as determined using SEM suggest that it formed within the water column and experiences some changes in local redox conditions, probably associated with alternating summer anoxia and the well-mixed and generally well-aerated conditions found during the winter. The prevalence of Fe(II)-sulfide minerals in the sediments and the lack of Fe(III)-oxide minerals suggest that the classic model of P-retention by Fe(III)-oxides would not be operating in this lake, at least during anoxic summer conditions. Aeration of the hypolimnion could affect the internal loading of P by changing the relative amounts of Fe(II)-sulfides and Fe(III)-oxides at the sediment/water interface. The effect of microbial enzymes in reducing the disposable solid content of sludge was investigated. A mixture of industrial cellulase, protease, and lipase, in equal proportion by weight, reduced total suspended solids (TSS) by 30–50% and improved settling of solids. An increase in solid reduction was observed with increasing enzyme concentration. The effect of combinations of enzyme treatments indicated that two-enzyme combinations of protease and cellulase produced better solid reduction than individual enzymes and that lipase further augmented this effect. Among the individual enzymes, protease produced a more settleable sludge as compared to cellulase and lipase. Adjustment of the pH of the enzymatically treated sludge to the acidic range (pH 2–4) further improved solid reduction, and adjustment to the alkaline range (pH 10–12) improved settleability. A comprehensive study on the dynamics of dissolved elements (Mg, Al, Si, P, Ca, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Zn, As, Sr, Y, W, and U) in Lake Biwa was carried out using a clean technique. Lake water samples (n = 523) were collected from six stations in the North Basin and three stations in the South Basin. River water samples (n = 178) were collected from 14 major rivers flowing into the North Basin. Rainwater samples (n = 89) were collected at Otsu. The river water was enriched with Mn, Al, Fe, P, and Zn and the rainwater was enriched with Zn, Al, Fe, and Mn compared to North Basin water during winter mixing. The residence times of dissolved species were estimated on the basis of input through the rivers and rain. The residence times for Ca, Mg, and Sr were about 8 years, the same as that for water. Mn, Al, Fe, and Zn showed the shortest residence times (0.05–0.19 year). A budget calculation suggested that more than 60% of the input of dissolved Si, P, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, and Zn was scavenged and retained in the lake sediments and/or discharged as suspended particles.  相似文献

The content of natural (S, N, P, Ca, Mg, K, Mn, Zn, Cu) and extraneous elements (Pb, Cd, Al) in leaves of birch growing in the Krusne hory Mts. (Czech Republic), a territory affected by air pollution (SO2), was evaluated with regard to the altitude and age of birch stands, and in relation to stand nutrition. The contents of S, Ca, Mg, Zn and Pb culminated at the highest points of the altitudinal transect (elevation 900–1000 m). In contrast, at high altitudes the content of Cd, Al and Mn decreased. The content of elements in leaves was mostly not dependent on tree age. In terms of nutrition and growth of birch, the content of Cu was insufficient, the content of Ca, Mg, N, P and K was optimum, and the content of S, Zn and primarily Mn was higher. The content of Pb and Al was at natural background levels, that of Cd higher. Received: 3 July 1997 / Accepted: 19 May 1998  相似文献

In this work, the distribution of nine metals in two types of cultivated mushroom had been investigated. For Agaricus bisporus, the biomass was separated into caps and stalks, and for Pleurotus ostreatus, the entire mushrooms were taken for analysis. Electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry was used for total element determination in acid digests. For accuracy checking, the certified reference material (NIST 1571, citrus leaves) was analyzed. The results obtained for the two fungi species were within the ranges of concentration reported previously by other authors. Subcellular fractionation was accomplished by centrifugation of cell homogenates, which has been suspended in Tris-HCl buffer. In the first centrifugation (7300g, 4°C, 10 min), cell walls were separated (pellet I), and the second centrifugation (147,000g, 4°C, 60 min) yielded mixed membrane fraction (pellet II) and cytosol (supernatant II). Recoveries of the fractionation procedure were in the range 70–100% (with the exception of Fe). For all elements studied, the highest relative contributions were found in cytosol fractions of the fruiting bodies (63–72%, 49–76%, 44–93%, 26–87pc, 55–85%, 50–68%, 41–78%, 39–78%, 54–67% respectively for Al, Bi, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, and Pb. Lower contributions were found in cell walls (respectively 22–32%, 24–44%, 6.1–47%, 12–52%, 7.3–37%, 7.9–32%, 19–52%, 20–42%, and 25–38%) and only minute amounts in the mixed membrane fraction (3.0–5.8%, 0.7–7.0%, 0.7–8.3%, 1.0–22%, 7.5–14%, 16–24%, 1.1–19%, and 5.1–7.7%). The results obtained indicate that small water-soluble molecules were the primary forms of nine elements in two mushroom species studied. On the other hand, the evidence has been provided on elements binding to larger, water-insoluble molecules contained in the structures of cell wall and membranes. The relative distribution was both element and fungi dependent. Thus, in P. ostreatus, total element levels were higher than in A. bisporus, with the preference for their accumulation in cytosol. On the contrary, total element content in the latter fungi was lower; however, a clear tendency toward more efficient element incorporation to the water-insoluble structures was observed (no apparent differences between stalks and caps). These findings might contribute in a better understanding of the accumulation of metals in mushrooms.  相似文献
