Eucryptorrhynchus scrobiculatus and E. brandti (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) are destructive weevils on Ailanthus altissima in China. This study examined phototactic behaviour of E. scrobiculatus and E. brandti in response to eight light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in the laboratory and field. Effects of gender, starvation, and light and dark experience on the phototactic behaviour of the insects were evaluated. The results demonstrated that, the two species of weevil were phototactic insects and most sensitive to violet light (400–405?nm), followed by blue–violet light (420–430?nm). They were less sensitive to red (655–660?nm), white (6000–6500?k), blue–green (470–480?nm), yellow (590–595?nm), blue (450–455?nm), and green (515–530?nm) light. In the light intensity range of 200–1000?lux, the light intensity had no significant effect on the phototatic behaviour of E. scrobiculatus and E. brandti. Phototactic behaviour of the insects was affected by gender. The phototaxis indices of the two species of weevil increased with starvation, reaching a plateau after 2 or 3?d of starvation. The phototaxis indices of E. scrobiculatus and E. brandti were significantly affected by various wavelengths of light following exposure to the light for 3?h or in different dark experience time. In the mark-release-recapture test, the number of E. scrobiculatus and E. brandti adults trapped by violet (400–405?nm) light traps is the largest. The demographic characteristics of Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) reared on hybrid sweet corn (Zea mays L. variety saccharata) (hybrid super sweet corn KY bright jean) and on an artificial diet were compared by using the age-stage, two-sex life table. Because the hatch rate of eggs varies with maternal age, age-specific fecundity was calculated based on the numbers of hatched eggs to reveal the biological characteristics of H. armigera accurately. The intrinsic rate of increase (r), finite rate (λ) and mean generation time (T) of H. armigera were 0.0853 d(-1), 1.0890 d(-1), and 46.6 d, respectively, on Z. mays and 0.1015 d(-1), 1.1068 d(-1), and 46.3 d, respectively, on the artificial diet. There were significant differences in the intrinsic rate of increase and finite rate between two treatments. The age-stage life expectancy and reproductive value also were calculated. The relationships among the net reproductive rate, the mean female fecundity, the number of emerged females, and the total number of individuals used in the life table study are consistent with theoretical expectations. We recommend the age-stage, two-sex life table for use in insect demographic studies to incorporate both sexes and the variation in developmental rate among individuals and to obtain accurate population parameters. The Coccinellidae (ladybirds) is a highly speciose family of the Coleoptera. Ladybirds are well known because of their use as biocontrol agents, and are the subject of many ecological studies. However, little is known about phylogenetic relationships of the Coccinellidae, and a precise evolutionary framework is needed for the family. This paper provides the first phylogenetic reconstruction of the relationships within the Coccinellidae based on analysis of five genes: the 18S and 28S rRNA nuclear genes and the mitochondrial 12S, 16S rRNA and cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) genes. The phylogenetic relationships of 67 terminal taxa, representative of all the subfamilies of the Coccinellidae (61 species, 37 genera), and relevant outgroups, were reconstructed using multiple approaches, including Bayesian inference with partitioning strategies. The recovered phylogenies are congruent and show that the Coccinellinae is monophyletic but the Coccidulinae, Epilachninae, Scymninae and Chilocorinae are paraphyletic. The tribe Chilocorini is identified as the sister-group of the Coccinellinae for the first time. 相似文献

Ths structure of the stomatogastric neuromuscular system in Panulirus argus, Callinectes sapidus and Homarus americanus has recently been described (Maynard and Dando, 1973). We attempt here to describe the sensory innervation of the foregut in Panulirus argus and, by combining this information with previous published data and less systematic observations on Callinectes and Homarus, to provide in addition a summary of the stomatogastric sensory systems in these types of Decapoda Crustacea (Figure 1, Table I). Some anatomical problems remain unresolved and there is variation in the structure of the sense organs in different species, but we are able to recognize six major receptor groups in all of the species examined. These are (i) mechanoreceptors which monitor movements of the lower oesophagus and mouth (Receptor reference Nos. 1, 2, 3); (ii) probable chemoreceptors in the higher oesophagus and ventral cardiac sac (Rf. Nos. 6, 9, 11); (iii) cells located in or near the stomatogastric ganglion which monitor movements of the gastric mill (Rf. No. 8); (iv) neurones of the posterior stomach nerve (Rf. No. 15) which monitor movements of the gastric mill; (v) neurones innervating muscles near the cardio‐pyloric valve (Rf. No. 16); (vi) neurones innervating the hepatopancreas duct and the initial part of the intestine (Rf. Nos. 18, 19). In such a restricted system it should be possible to determine the precise role that the various sensory systems play in the control of the simple movements of the foregut. This research must necessarily involve the investigation, with intracellular techniques, of the central events in the commissural ganglia as these ganglia appear to be the major co‐ordination centres of the stomatogastric nervous system. 相似文献

The predatory stinkbugs Podisus maculiventris and Podisus sagitta were reared for more than 15 consecutive generations on a meat—based artificial diet. When they were returned to a diet of live prey (larvae of the pyralid Galleria mellonella) after different generations on the artificial diet, developmental and reproductive traits were similar to those of bugs continuously reared on live prey. Under laboratory conditions, predation rates for nymphs and adults of both pentatomids on larvae of the noctuid Spodoptera exigua were found to be unaffected by the previous diet. The results suggest that long—term rearing of P. maculiventris and P. sagitta on the meat—based artificial diet did not substantially affect the quality of the predators. 相似文献

The species of Taumacera viridis species–group from Vietnam are revised. Four species are recognized. Taumacera indica (Jacoby, 1889), T. occipitalis (Laboissière, 1933) and T. variceps (Laboissière, 1933), are redescribed. A small group of nine nominal species belonging to the genus Neacratus Alonso-Zarazaga, Lyal, Sforzi & Bartolozzi, 1999 is studied in detail from a morphological point of view. Lectotypes are designated for Brentus obtusus Lund, 1800 and Nemocephalus fulgidus Kleine, 1928. Three new synonymies are proposed: Nemocephalus brevicostatus Kleine, 1922 n. syn. for Brenthus obtusus Lund, 1800, Nemocephalus longiceps Perroud, 1853 n. syn. for Brenthus famulus Boheman, 1840, and Nemocephalus fulgidus Kleine, 1928 n. syn. for B. famulus Boheman, 1840. A new species, Neacratus pascali n. sp., is described from French Guiana. New country records are provided for Neacratus obtusus (Bolivia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Grenada, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela), N. puncticeps (Sharp, 1895) (Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela), N. guatemalensis (Senna, 1893) (Belize, Colombia, El Salvador), N. deplanatus (Sharp, 1895) (Colombia, Costa Rica, French Guiana, Mexico, Panama, Venezuela) and N. famulus (Paraguay). A phylogenetic analysis carried out on this group shows it forms a monophyletic lineage included in a clade containing most of other species of Neacratus, of which it is the type species; it is therefore not justified to create a new generic name. The possible polyphyletism of the genus Neacratus as a whole and the development of an excessively long rostrum in some male Acratini are discussed. 相似文献

Summary The antennal sensilla inI. typographus are almost exclusively confined to the flattened terminal flagellar segment. The sensillar types have distinct distribution patterns in the three areas where they are found. Judging from the ultrastructural characteristics the following functions can be assigned to the sensillar types: chemoreception, single-walled and double-walled sensilla; chemoreception/mechanoreception, terminal-pore sensillum. Burst swimming in fish results in a marked metabolic acidosis. Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) blood was shown to have a marked Root shift, such that burst swimming and the subsequent metabolic acidosis should impair oxygen delivery to the tissues and, therefore, aerobic swimming capacity. Burst swimming was found to have no effect on aerobic swimming capacity in Chinook salmon and it is concluded that any effects on aerobic swimming, of the induced metabolic acidosis following burst swimming, was offset by the release of catecholamines. 相似文献

A facile synthetic method for peptide–porphyrin conjugates containing four peptide units on one porphyrin was developed using chemoselective reactions. The key building blocks, 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(3-azidophenyl)porphyrin 1 and 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(5-azido-3-pyridyl)porphyrin 2, were efficiently synthesized and used as substrates for two well-known chemoselective reactions, traceless Staudinger ligation and copper-catalyzed azide alkyne cycloaddition (so-called click chemistry). Both reactions gave the desired compounds, and click chemistry was superior for our purpose. To confirm the value of the established methodology, nine peptide–porphyrin conjugates were synthesized, and their catalase- and peroxidase-like activity in water was evaluated. Our synthetic strategy is expected to be valuable for the preparation of artificial heme protein models. 相似文献

Among Scarabaeoidea, pollen feeding occurs in two major lineages, pleurostict Scarabaeidae and Glaphyridae. Here we infer for the first time the phylogeny of the scarabaeoid lineage Glaphyridae (Coleoptera) based on molecular data using partial gene sequences for 28S rRNA, cytochrome oxidase I (cox1) and 16S rRNA (rrnL) for 41 species. Based on the resulting tree topology, we inferred the timing of the origin of pollination and of their coevolution with different flower host taxa, with particular focus on the prominent red-coloured ‘poppy guild’ flowers. All genera of Glaphyridae that were sampled with multiple species were recovered as monophyletic. According to this analysis, the origin of Glaphyridae was around 140 Ma, while crown group divergence was dated to have occurred c. 112 Ma. Pollen feeding originated in Glaphyridae only once and much later than in other important pollinator groups, between 97 and 67 Ma. According to the reconstruction of ancestral feeding traits, Asteraceae (Cicharioidae) were the first hosts of Glaphyridae. Presumably, a further adaptive radiation was triggered by feeding on and pollination of red flowers (poppy guild) which arose at a later stage. It occurred for the first time between 30 and 40 Ma, whereby the clades that use red Ranunculaceae (Pygopleurus spp.) are older than clades using exclusively red Papaveraceae (Eulasia spp.) (25–30 Ma). The rather young age of red Ranunculaceae would imply that Pygopleurus species only subsequently used red Ranunculus species as flower hosts, and that a broad parallel host shift probably from red Papaver spp. to red Ranunculus asiaticus has occurred rather recently. 相似文献

The typology and placement of antennal sensilla of the carrion beetles Oxelytrum erythrurum (Blanchard) and Oxelytrum apicalis (Brullé) (Coleoptera: Silphidae) were studied using scanning electron microscopy. Two types of sensilla chaetica, two types of sensilla trichodea, four types of sensilla basiconica, one type of sensilla coeloconica, and an unidentified type of sensillum were found in both species. Sensilla chaetica type 1 are found on the antennomeres proximal to antennal club (A1?CA8); chaetica type 2 are found on the club (A9?CA11). Sensilla trichodea are found on A9?CA11; one type (T1) is found on the proximal portion of the club, the other type (T2) on the apical portion. Basiconica type 1 are found on the dorsal surface of A9?CA11; they are much denser on the apical portion of the antennal club than on the proximal. In O. erythrurum, a nocturnal species of the Chaco-Pampean plain, T2 two are found on A10 and A11. In Oxelytrum apicale, a mountain species, probably diurnal, only A11 bears T2, but they are denser than in the other species. It is suggested that O. apicale depends more on contact chemoreception than O. erythrurum. The ventral surface of the antennal clubs shows no remarkable difference between species. 相似文献
