This study is the first to examine the circadian rhythms of melatonin in Eriocheir sinensis and Palaemonetes sinensis, two economically important crustaceans. We collected haemolymph and optic lobes from both species every 4 h over a whole day cycle. Melatonin content was measured with high-performance liquid chromatography. E. sinensis haemolymph exhibited significant (p < 0.05) peaks in melatonin at 16:00 (0.180 ± 0.020 μg·mL?1) and 24:00 (0.244 ± 0.055 μg·mL?1), while eyestalks had significant peaks at 16:00 (72.377 ± 18.100 μg·eyestalk?1) and 24:00 (98.756 ± 30.271 μg·eyestalk?1). In P. sinensis, melatonin peaked significantly only at 16:00 in optic lobes (12.493 ± 1.475 μg·eyestalk?1) (p < 0.05); no significant peaks were present in haemolymph. Thus, both E. sinensis and P. sinensis exhibit species-specific melatonin rhythms. Time of day should therefore be considered when examining the physiological status of both crustaceans, given the potential influence of fluctuating daily melatonin concentrations.  相似文献

Distribution, population dynamics, growth and aspects of reproductive biology of Corophium insidiosum were investigated in Monolimni lagoon. Samples were collected in July 1997 (at 30 psu S) and during February 1998–May 1999 (at 0.1–5.7 psu S). Corophium insidiosumwas almost exclusively found in the outer part of the lagoon, which showed a higher water renewal rate. Population density gradually decreased during winter and spring, when salinity was lower than 1 psu and the amphipod finally vanished from the lagoon. Salinity increase during summer (1.2–5.7 psu) was followed by the re-occurrence of C. insidiosum with a time lag of 2–3 months. Population density increased in autumn and peaked in early winter at salinities 1.6–4.2 psu. Three cohorts appeared in the population during September 1998–March 1999. Breeding activity peaked in early autumn (14–21?°C, 4 psu S) and ceased after December (2–6.5?°C, ¡1.5 psu S). The preponderance of females in the large size classes resulted in a female- biased sex ratio in the whole population. The population showed a growth rate of 7.5–11.2 μm d?1 being faster in autumn (9–21?°C, 3–4 psu S) than in winter (2–12?°C, 0.2–3 psu). An exponential relation existed between body length and cephalic length or dry body weight, while brood size was directly related to body length. Mean brood size was small (4.96 early embryos) and egg loss during development high (53%), possibly as a consequence of low salinities.  相似文献

Potential predictors of egg quality were assessed in whiting Merlangius merlangus L. permitted to spawn in a tank from which eggs were collected. These included fertilisation rate, the proportion of viable buoyant eggs, egg diameter, and egg wet and dry weights; all were influenced by temporal effects and were negatively correlated with days from start of spawning. The spawning period was protracted, from February to June. Mean daily egg production per female was 2.74 ± 2.43 g and 2338 ± 2075 eggs, equivalent to 14.6 ± 13.1 g kg?1 day?1 female?1. Egg diameter was 1.21 ± 0.04 mm, egg wet weight 1.20 ± 0.21 mg, dry weight 0.10 ± 0.02 mg, and mean fertilisation rate and hatching rates were 76.8 and 73.3%, respectively. The incubation period ranged from 72 to 80 degree days and was dependent on temperature (x) and described by the equation y = 25.92 e?0.1219x. Realised fecundity was also assessed to determine if this gave a more accurate measure of reproductive potential, and this was compared with potential fecundity estimated from predictive regressions on fish length from fisheries data. Realised egg production of 20 females of 185 g mean weight and 256 mm fork length was 4 444 360 (95% CL 4 093 961–4 743 018), similar to predicted seasonal egg production based on gravimetric fecundity measurements of wild caught fish.  相似文献

The experiments were performed in a tench farm from autumn until the spawning season (June–July). Tench broodstocks from natural habitats were maintained in 25 × 6 × 1 m concrete ponds and fed on commercial trout pellets. Females and males were separated and maintained under natural photoperiod and temperature conditions at densities around 2 kg m?2. Water flow throughout was supplied at the rate of 15 L s?1. When females showed external signs of advanced gonadal development, induction of spawning was made by luteinizing hormone releasing factor (LH‐RH) synthetic analogue administration at three different periods of the reproductive season (June–July). A single intramuscular injection (20 μg kg?1 body weight) was administered to 110 mature females selected from a total of 150. The females were stripped 42 h (22°C) after hormone administration. The mean rate of stripped females to the number injected was 77%. Mean relative egg weight in relation to the weight of the stripped females was 5.61%. More than 90% of the males provided semen without hormonal induction. Differences in egg production and external egg quality were observed at different times of the spawning period. It was proven that tench maintained in small concrete tanks and fed on artificial diets were able to reach gonadal maturation.  相似文献

Hemiculter leucisculus are multiple spawners with indeterminate fecundity, although previous fecundity estimates have assumed a determinate spawning pattern. Batch fecundity and spawning frequency of H. leucisculus were studied in Erhai Lake, China, in which the fish, as an exotic species, has become a successful colonizer. Spawning frequency was 16.05 %, as determined from the percent of females with postovulatory follicles 12 to 36 h old during the peak reproductive period (from May 27 to August 8). The average interval between spawning was 6.2 days and there were more than 16 total spawning batches during the peak reproductive period. The average batch fecundity (mean ± SD) was 11,934?±?5,921 hydrated oocytes in 40 females (standard length or SL: 9.1–14.4 cm), while relative batch fecundity was 560?±?137 eggs g?1 wet weight. The total potential annual fecundity was approximately 190,944 oocytes over the whole spawning season and was much higher than the estimated standing stock (31,585 oocytes) of yolked oocytes (36 females, SL: 9.5–16.2 cm) at the beginning of the spawning season in April 2010. This high annual fecundity is likely to have contributed to successful invasion of Erhai Lake by H. leucisculus.  相似文献

A key evolutionary development facilitating land colonization in terrestrial isopods (Isopoda: Oniscidea) is the intermittent liberation of waste nitrogen as volatile ammonia. Intermittent ammonia release exploits glutamine (Gln) as an intermediary nitrogen store. Here, we explore the relationship between temporal patterns of ammonia release and Gln accumulation in three littoral oniscideans from Southern California. Results are interpreted in terms of water availability, habitat, activity patterns, and ancestry. A two-way experimental design was used to test whether ammonia excretion and Gln accumulation follow a tidal or diel periodicity. Ammonia excretion was studied in the laboratory using chambers with or without available seawater and using an acid trap to collect volatile ammonia. Ligia occidentalis releases ammonia directly into seawater and accumulates Gln during low tide (48.9 ± 6.5 μmol g?1 at low tide, 24.1 ± 3.0 μmol g?1 at high tide), indicating that excretion is tidally constrained. Alloniscus perconvexus and Tylos punctatus can excrete ammonia directly into seawater or utilize volatilization. Both species burrow in sand by day and show a diel excretory pattern, accumulating Gln nocturnally (31.8 ± 2.7 μmol g?1 at dawn and 21.8 ± 2.3 μmol g?1 at dusk for A. perconvexus; 85.7 ± 15.1 μmol g?1 at dawn and 25.4 ± 2.9 μmol g?1 at dusk for T. punctatus) and liberating ammonia diurnally. Glutaminase shows higher activity in terrestrial (0.54–0.86 U g?1) compared to intertidal (0.25–0.31 U g?1) species, consistent with the need to generate high PNH3 for volatilization. The predominant isoform in Armadillidium vulgare is phosphate dependent and maleate independent; phosphate is a plausible regulator in vivo.  相似文献

A comparative study of some aspects of the reproductive biologyof Siphonaria pectinata was carried out at Gibraltar. Maturationoccurred at 5-6 mm shell length corresponding to an age of 6-12months. At the more sheltered Atlantic site spawning was evidentfrom March to June 1992 with peak spawning occurring in May-June1992. The patterns of spawning activity for the following twoyears were very similar. Egg ribbons were very scarce at themore exposed Mediterranean site and were found in considerablyless quantities than at the Atlantic site. Individuals at bothsites contained mature eggs in their gonads at the onset, andthen throughout the duration of the spawning season, but exhibitedspent gonads by October. The spawn of S. pectinata consistedof small oval ribbons filled with numerous egg-shaped capsulesspaced irregularly in a jelly-like matrix. Spawn was depositedmainly away from the home scar in shallow depressions, cracksand crevices and between barnacles and mussels. S. pectinataexhibited planktonic development. The fertilised eggs took between14 and 21 days to develop at ambient temperature (14-19°),and hatched as free-swimming planktotrophic veligers. The timingof spawning activity and the placement of egg masses in protectivemicrohabitats on the shore are discussed in terms of adaptationsto reduce desiccation stress, predation and possible food shortages.The mode of development in S. pectinata is placed in contextwith current theories regarding siphonariid ancestry and evolution. Gaeolaelaps aculeifer (Canestrini, 1883) is a soil-dwelling predatory mite with potential for use as a biological control agent of fungus gnats (Diptera: Sciaridae) in mushroom production. The life table, predation rate and population growth rate of G. aculeifer on a diet of larvae of the sciarid fly, Lycoriella auripila, at 23?±?1°C, 60?±?5% RH and a photoperiod of 0:24 (L:D)?h was investigated. The results revealed that the duration of egg, larva, protonymph, deutonymph, females and males of G. aculeifer were 3.8?±?0.1, 1.4?±?0.1, 3.9?±?0.1, 4.1?±?0.1, 67.7?±?2.8 and 60.3?±?3.1 days, respectively. Net reproductive rate (R0) was 54.8?±?7.1 offspring, intrinsic rate of increase (r) was 0.12?±?0.01 offspring day?1, finite rate of increase (λ) was 1.13?±?0.01 day?1and mean generation time (T) was 32.3?±?0.6 days. The predator consumed a mean of 0.08?±?0.05, 1.73?±?0.18, 3.16?±?0.28 and 75.9?±?7.1 third instar L. auripila larvae during the larval (1.3?±?0.1 days), protonymph (3.9?±?0.1 days), deutonymph (4.1?±?0.1 days) and adult (52.6?±?2.2 days) stages. Population parameters and consumption rates suggest that G. aculeifer has good potential as a biological control agent of L. auripila in mushroom production.  相似文献

Hypericum hookerianum is a lesser known ethnomedicinal plant having wound healing, antitumor and anti-HSV-1 properties. Isolated nodes of in vitro shoots sub-cultured in the dark for 4 weeks on half strength Murashige and Skoog medium solidified with Gelzan (1.5 g l?1), and supplemented with 2.325 μM kinetin produced 8.0 ± 0.40 etiolated shoots of 5.0 ± 0.62 cm length at 74 % efficiency versus 9.2 ± 0.6 healthy shoots of 4.4 ± 0.5 cm obtained from nodes in light at 96 % efficiency. Low concentrations of hypericin were found in wild plant [0.35 ± 0.09 mg g?1 dry weight (DW)] and control green shoot cultures (0.91 ± 0.03 mg g?1 DW). Etiolated shoots exposed to a 12 h photoperiod (50 μmol m?2 s?1) through 1–25 days turned red incrementally due to synthesis and accumulation of 0.1–3.83 mg g?1 DW hypericin in sub-epidermal cortical cells of the stem and varied shaped cells of the distorted mesophyll. Flavonoid and anthocyanin concentrations of the etiolated shoots subjected to the 12 h photoperiod were 3–5 fold higher than the control shoot cultures while total chlorophylls [1.97 ± 0.05 mg g?1 fresh weight (FW)] of the light exposed shoots were significantly less compared to the control (2.86 ± 0.18 mg g?1 FW) and natural plant (6.82 ± 0.29 mg g?1 FW). HPLC analysis of shoot extracts revealed the presence of 0.14 ± 0.03, 0.16 ± 0.02 and 1.45 ± 0.16 mg g?1 DW hyperforin in wild plant, control shoot cultures and etiolated shoot cultures illuminated for 25 days, respectively. Despite a reasonable presence in etiolated shoots (0.61 ± 0.15 g?1 FW), total phenols did not increase significantly during illumination. The results indicate light induced synthesis of anti-depressant phenolic derivatives (hypericin, hyperforin and flavonoids) in etiolated shoot cultures of H. hookerianum.  相似文献

Phenology, irradiance, and temperature characteristics of an edible brown alga, Undaria pinnatifida (Laminariales), were examined from the southernmost natural population in Japan, both by culturing gametophytes and examining the photosynthetic activity of sporophytes using dissolved oxygen sensors and pulse amplitude-modulated chlorophyll fluorometer (IMAGING-PAM). Our surveys confirmed that sporophytes were present between winter and early summer, but absent by July. IMAGING-PAM experiments were used to measure maximum effective quantum yield (ΦII at 0 μmol photons m?2 s?1) for each of 14 temperatures (8–36 °C). Oxygen production was also determined over a coarser temperature gradient. Net photosynthesis and ΦII (at 0 μmol photons m?2 s?1) were observed to be temperature-dependent; the maximum ΦII was estimated to be 0.67, occurred at 21.2 °C, and was nearly identical to the optimal temperature of the net photosynthetic rate (21.7 °C). A net photosynthesis–irradiance (P–E) model revealed that saturation irradiance (E k) was 119.5 μmol photons m?1 s?1, and the compensation irradiance (E c) was 17.4 μmol photons m?1 s?1. Culture experiments on the gametophytes revealed that most individuals could not survive temperatures over 28 °C and that growth rates were severely inhibited. Based on our observations, temperatures greater than 20 °C are likely to influence photosynthetic activity and gametophyte survival, and therefore, it is possible that this species might become locally extinct if seawater temperatures in this region continue to rise.  相似文献

Lifetable demography and reproductive traits of a Kenyan strain of the rotifer Brachionus angularis were investigated using individual and small batch culture approaches. The rotifer was identified morphologically before conducting studies at 20, 25 and 30 °C, using Chlorella vulgaris at 2.5 × 105 to 2.5 × 107 cells ml–1. The rotifers were highly fecund, producing 2.11 ± 0.07 offspring female–1 day–1 and reproductive, producing 8.43 ± 0.24 offspring female–1 at 25 °C with 2.5 × 106 algal cells ml–1. The highest intrinsic rate of natural increase (0.74 ± 0.02 d–1), specific population growth rate (0.49 ± 0.01), longest life expectancy at hatching (12.41 ± 0.28 d) and shortest generation time (2.87 ± 0.03 d) also occurred at 25 °C with 2.5 × 106 algal cells ml–1. The duration of hatching to first spawning was shortest (2.86 ± 0.21 h) at 30 °C with 2.5 × 107 algal cells ml–1 and longest (8.83 ± 0.39 h) at 20 °C with 2.5 × 105 algal cells ml–1. The highest population density (255.7 ± 12.6 ind. ml–1) was realised at 25 °C with 2.5 × 106 cells ml–1 on Day 8, whereas the lowest population density (122.0 ± 3.6 ind. ml–1) was realised at 20 °C with 2.5 × 105 cells ml–1 on Day 8. The lorica length and width of the Kenyan strain of B. angularis are 85.6 ± 3.1 µm and 75.4 ± 3.6 µm, respectively. The rotifer optimally reproduces at 25 °C when fed with 2.5 × 106 algal cells ml–1.  相似文献

Sargassum vachellianum Greville is one of the most important members in the subtidal seaweed flora along the coasts of the Eastern China Sea. In order to understand the embryology of zygotes and development of germlings in S. vachellianum, we performed artificial ripening, systematically observed the morphological changes and development of the fertilized eggs and germlings, and explored the effects of culture conditions on the growth of the germlings. The receptacles matured, and eggs and sperm were released after 1–5 days of culture at 21–24 °C under 60–90 μmol photons m?2 s?1 (14L:10D). Once fertilized, zygotes immediately detached from the female receptacles and began to germinate. Eight nuclei in the released fresh zygote soon begun to fuse, forming a large central nucleus, and underwent two horizontal divisions to produce a small “original rhizoid cell,” which eventually formed rhizoids after several divisions, and three other cells which eventually formed landmine-like germlings after several continuous divisions. The germlings then formed rhizoids and attached onto the bottom of the flask within 12 h of culture. The growth and development of the germlings younger than 20 days were significantly influenced by the culture temperature and light, with the optimal conditions being 21 °C and 40 μmol photons m?2 s?1. However, for germlings older than 30 days, the optimal conditions were 24 °C and 60 μmol photons m?2 s?1.  相似文献

We report a data-set of dissolved methane (CH4) in three rivers (Comoé, Bia and Tanoé) and five lagoons (Grand-Lahou, Ebrié, Potou, Aby and Tendo) of Ivory Coast (West Africa), during the four main climatic seasons (high dry season, high rainy season, low dry season and low rainy season). The surface waters of the three rivers were over-saturated in CH4 with respect to atmospheric equilibrium (2221–38719%), and the seasonal variability of CH4 seemed to be largely controlled by dilution during the flooding period. The strong correlation of CH4 concentrations with the partial pressure of CO2 (pCO2) and dissolved silicate (DSi) confirm the dominance of a continental sources (from soils) for both CO2 and CH4 in these rivers. Diffusive air–water CH4 fluxes ranged between 25 and 1187 μmol m?2 day?1, and annual integrated values were 288 ± 107, 155 ± 38, and 241 ± 91 μmol m?2 day?1 in the Comoé, Bia and Tanoé rivers, respectively. In the five lagoons, surface waters were also over-saturated in CH4 (ranging from 1496 to 51843%). Diffusive air–water CH4 fluxes ranged between 20 and 2403 μmol m?2 day?1, and annual integrated values were 78 ± 34, 338 ± 217, 227 ± 79, 330 ± 153 and 326 ± 181 μmol m?2 day?1 in the Grand-Lahou, Ebrié, Potou, Aby and Tendo lagoons, respectively. The largest CH4 over-saturations were observed in the Tendo and Aby lagoons that are permanently stratified systems (unlike the other three lagoons), leading to anoxic bottom waters favorable for a large CH4 production. In addition, these two stratified lagoons showed low pCO2 values due to high primary production, which suggests an efficient transfer of organic matter across the pycnocline. As a result, the stratified Tendo and Aby lagoons were respectively, a low source of CO2 to the atmosphere and a sink of atmospheric CO2 while the other three well-mixed lagoons were strong sources of CO2 to the atmosphere but less over-saturated in CH4.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of time of day on stroke parameters and motor organization in front-crawl swimmers. In a randomized order, fourteen regional swimmers (age: 18.7 ± 1.6 years) performed maximal front crawls over 12.5 m during two experimental sessions; the morning sessions were conducted between 07:00 and 09:00 h and the evening experiments were conducted between 17:00 and 19:00 h. Stroke parameters (swim velocity, stroke rate [SR], and stroke length), motor organization (arm stroke phases and arm coordination) were calculated from aerial and underwater side-view cameras. Arm coordination was quantified in terms of an index of coordination (Idc). Results showed that oral temperature was significantly higher in the evening 36.8 ± 0.2 °C than in the morning 36.1 ± 0.2 °C (p < 0.001), with a morning–evening difference of ?0.7 ± 0.1 °C. Performance was also higher in the evening (7.4 ± 0.6 s) than in the morning (8.0 ± 0.8 s) (p < 0.001), with a morning–evening difference of 0.55 ± 0.30 s. Likewise, values of swim velocity and SR were higher in the evening than in the morning (p < 0.001) with morning–evening differences of ?0.10 ± 0.04 m s?1 and ?3.99 ± 2.91 cycles min?1, respectively. Percentage Idc increased significantly (p < 0.01) between the morning (?5.1 ± 6.5%) and evening (?1.6 ± 7.0%). It is concluded that maximal swimming trials are performed better in the evening than the morning, and that this might be explained by better stroke parameters and motor organization at this time.  相似文献

1. Microbial plankton dynamics in an ultra‐oligotrophic epishelf lake (Beaver Lake, Antarctica) were investigated over an austral summer (December 2002 to January 2003). The aim was to characterise carbon cycling in an environmentally extreme lake. 2. The lake had an unusual temperature profile with peak temperatures of 1.3–1.9 °C between 20 and 25 m. Photosynthetically active radiation penetrated to the lake bottom (110 m) on occasions. The ice cover underwent marked thinning and melting during the study period. 3. Chlorophyll a concentrations were consistently low, usually below 1 μg L?1, with highest concentrations close to the lake bottom, where the photosynthetic elements showed strong autofluorescence. Mean photosynthetic nanoflagellates ranged between 34.9 × 104 L?1 ± 33.5 (23rd December) and 130.9 × 104 L?1 ± 112.3 (4th December). Highest photosynthetic activity was usually recorded below 25 m. Rates of carbon fixation varied between 0.089 μg C L?1 h?1 ± 0.002 and 0.579 μg C L?1 h?1 ± 0.156. Primary production was limited by low temperature and orthophosphate availability. 4. Mean bacterial concentration throughout the water column ranged between 9.3 × 107 L?1 ± 1.2 (23rd December) and 14.0 × 107 L?1 ± 1.8 (28th January). Bacterial production was low, less than 10% of primary production and ranged between 2.1 ng C L?1 h?1 ± 0.8 and 12 ng C L?1 h?1 ± 0.9. Highest rates coincided with times of highest primary production. On occasion dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations dropped to 20 μg L?1, probably below accurate limits of detection, suggesting that carbon substratum and phosphorus may have limited bacterial growth. 5. Heterotrophic nanoflagellates varied significantly over the summer from a mean of 26.6 × 104 L?1 ± 14.2 (23rd December) to 133.8 × 104 L?1 ± 33.5 (14th December). They imposed a significant grazing impact on the bacterioplankton, removing in excess of 100% of bacterial production in December. 6. The total organic carbon pool [DOC and particulate organic carbon (POC)] was below 600 μg L?1. The ratio of DOC : POC ranged between 0.44 : 1 and 2.8 : 1 in the upper 40 m of the water column, and 1.8 : 1 and 3.7 : 1 in the lower waters. The microbial plankton contributed 1–29% of POC, thus detrital POC made up the largest fraction of the POC pool. 7. Beaver Lake is an extreme lacustrine ecosystem where heterotrophic processes occasionally appear to be carbon limited. Significant summer ice‐melt, not seen in a previous opportunistic sampling, may be having an impact on the carbon cycle.  相似文献

We evaluated the nighttime CO2 flux (ecosystem respiration) on Rishiri Island, located at the northern tip of Hokkaido, Japan, from 2009 to 2011, by using the relationship between atmospheric 222Rn and CO2 concentrations. The annual mean CO2 flux was 1.8 μmol m?2 s?1, with a maximum monthly mean in July (4.6 ± 2.6 μmol m?2 s?1) and a broad minimum from December to March (0.33 ± 0.29 μmol m?2 s?1). The annual mean was comparable to fluxes at the JapanFlux sites in northern Japan. During the season of snow cover (mid-December to early April), the CO2 flux was low (0.45 ± 0.43 μmol m?2 s?1). Total annual respiration was estimated at 679 ± 174 g cm?2, about 8 % of which occurred during the season of snow cover.  相似文献

For a period of 1 year, some blood parameters were evaluated on a monthly basis in a population of adult European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L.) intensively reared in floating marine cages (Ionian Sea, Mediterranean). From April (13 months old) to July (16 months old) males (35–50%) and sexually indeterminate individuals were collected. From August to March (24 months old) only males were sampled. During this period the percentage of spermiated males was highest (100%) from November (20 months old) to January (22 months old). Plasma testosterone in males was inversely related to sunlight (h month?1) and was elevated between October and January, when males first achieved sexual maturity. Testosterone showed the highest value (0.49 ± 0.02 ng ml?1) in January and the lowest (0.09 ± 0.02 ng ml?1) in March. Haematocrit, red blood cell counts and haemoglobin concentration were elevated from November to March, being inversely related to sunlight. The two latter parameters were also inversely related to daily food intake. Haematocrit, red blood cell counts and haemoglobin concentration were highest in December [53 ± 1%, (5.36 ± 0.06) × 106 mm?3, 10.08 ± 0.14 g 100 ml?1, respectively] and lowest in June [35 ± 1%, (3.33 ± 0.05) × 106 mm?3, 6.47 ± 0.13 g 100 ml?1, respectively]. White blood cell counts were not correlated with sea water temperature, sunlight or daily food intake. They were highest in February [(8.45 ± 0.20) × 104 mm?3] and lowest in April [(6.07 ± 0.14) × 104 mm?3]. Total plasma protein concentration (4.88 ± 0.11–5.93 ± 0.10 g 100 ml?1) and mean cell volume (93.3 ± 0.9–105.5 ± 1.8 μm3) showed small fluctuations throughout the year. Sexual maturity appears to be a major factor that significantly affects haemopoiesis of D. labrax. This study contributes to the evaluation of normal levels of some blood parameters in European sea bass, which are helpful for the assessment of physiological status and health of this species.  相似文献

To understand the influence of four mulberry varieties on the development and reproduction of the European red spider mite, Panonychus ulmi (Koch) (Prostigmata: Tetranychidae), age-stage two-sex life tables of P. ulmi on Goshoerami, KNG, Chinese white and Rokokuyaso varieties were constructed under ambient laboratory conditions during summer season of the year with an average temperature of 26.22 ± 2.23 °C, relative humidity of 70 ± 5% and photoperiod of 14:10 h (L: D). Panonychus ulmi developed comparatively better on KNG and Goshoerami varieties than the other two varieties, as indicated by high fecundity (45.05 ± 1.89 and 41.23 ± 1.66 eggs female?1, respectively) and intrinsic rate of increase (0.165 ± 0.01 and 0.168 ± 0.03 day?1, respectively). Lowest intrinsic rate of increase (r) was observed on Chinese white and Rokokuyaso (0.055 ± 0.03 and 0.057 ± 0.10 day?1, respectively). Total development time of immature females was shortest on KNG than on the other varieties. Immature survival was significantly higher on KNG and Goshoerami varieties (76.76 ± 7.59 and 72.96 ± 8.21%, respectively) and was lower on Chinese white and Rokokuyaso (46.76 ± 9.00 and 43.32 ± 8.71%, respectively). Based on all the above parameters, KNG and Goshoerami were found as most suitable varieties for P. ulmi than Chinese white and Rokokuyaso.  相似文献

Channa gachua were monthly sampled throughout a year and the histological analysis of their ovaries was done to determine the changes occurring in ovarian development. Based on histological examination of the ovaries, the oogenic process of C. gachua undergoes distinct cyclic and seasonal morphological changes. Five different developmental stages were identified under three major categories: pre-spawning (immature, maturing, mature), spawning (ripe-running) and post-spawning (spent). The peak spawning period of C. gachua was noticed during December - February. The gonadosomatic index (GSI) and ova diameter ranged from 0.79 to 3.61% and 543–1123 μm respectively. The highest mean GSI (3.61 ± 0.16) and oocyte diameter (1123 ± 55 μm) were observed in December indicating that during this month the gonadal development reached maturity.  相似文献
