Post-stimulation dilatation (PSD) of the femoral artery and vein after cessation of postganglionic sympathetic stimulation were related to the frequency and pulse number of the preceding stimulation. It was found that: 1) A minimum number of pulses (MNP) is needed to evoke PSD. MNP is inversely related to the stimulation frequency. A marked PSD develops after stimulation at 1 Hz when only 100 pulses were applied, whereas, if stimulated at 4 Hz or at higher frequencies, even 2,000 pulses fail to induce PSD. 2) The maximum value, the maximum rate and the overall diameter change of PSD (expressed either in absolute values or in relation to the preceding contraction) are a) directly related to the number of pulses at a constant stimulation frequency, b) for a constant number of pulses the above values are inversely related to the stimulation frequency. 3) The relation of PSD values to the stimulation parameters contradict the assumption that PSD is elicited either by a neurogenic transmitter released by the stimulation, or by an extraneuronal transmitter whose release is associated with the release of noradrenaline. PSD is suggested to be due to a decreased noradrenaline level within the synaptic cleft due to persistence of the reuptake after the release of noradrenaline had ceased. 相似文献

The formation of complexes of alpha-cyclodextrin with cycloalkanediols, monoalkylamines and 1-alkanols has been studied calorimetrically at 25 degrees C in water, in phosphoric acid, pH 1.3, and in phosphate buffer, pH 5.5, respectively. When a complex is formed, calorimetry enables the calculation of both the enthalpy and the association constant, from which the free energy and the entropy of the process can be obtained. A model is proposed to explain the unusual trend of the association parameters for substances having alkyl chains longer than six-seven carbon atoms. The main role played by the different functional groups, and the forces involved in the association process, are discussed in the light of the signs and values of the thermodynamic parameters obtained. The effect of the variation of the aqueous medium on the hydration of the interacting substances and the consequent changes in the association parameters have been investigated. To this end, the thermodynamic parameters for the formation of the complexes between the cyclodextrin and 1-pentanol were determined at increasing concentrations of phosphate buffer. There is an increase in the association constant due to a positive entropy contribution originating from the relaxation of water molecules from the hydrophobic hydration cosphere of the alkanol to an increasingly disordered bulk. Deaquation of the interacting substances is the main factor determining the stability of the inclusion complex. 相似文献

The importance of collagen, the major structural protein of animal kingdom, in maintaining the normal structure and function of the skin is well known. The same property is exploited widely in medical and industrial fields in finding agents, which could influence the synthesis of this protein. In this context in vitro production of collagen is of high significance. A literature survey has been made to analyze the various factors that influence collagen biosynthesis. There are various physical and biological factors that can either induce or inhibit collagen biosynthesis at various levels of gene expression. However reports concentrating on the effects of plants-derived compounds in stimulating collagen synthesis are scanty. Since extracts of many plants are known to be beneficial in the wound healing process, plants-derived compounds will have a definite role in the regulation of collagen synthesis. The present study emphasizes the need for unearthing the role of these plant derived factors on collagen synthesis which will be of immense application in the medical field. 相似文献

1. Lymphocytes from pig mesenteric lymph node have low permeability to K+ (Rb+), Na+ and Cl-. None of these ions is in Nernst equilibrium with the plasma-membrane potential (delta psi p). 2. delta psi p can be calculated from the transmembrane distribution of the permeant cation methyltriphenylphosphonium (TPMP+) in the presence of the uncoupler carbonyl cyanide p-trifluoromethoxyphenylhydrazone (FCCP) to abolish uptake into intracellular mitochondria. In normal culture medium delta psi p is 56 mV. 3. A similar potential is found in T-enriched pig cells and in mouse thymocytes. 4. The contribution of electrogenic (Na+ + K+)ATPase to delta psi p is about 7 mV. 5. The remainder of the lymphocyte delta psi p is a polyionic potential set up by K+ and Cl- with a permeability coefficient for Cl- of similar magnitude to that for K+. 相似文献

Colonisation of barley grain has been studied during storage at different water contents and with and without restriction of the air supply to simulate conditions in unsealed silos. Grain stored with a water activity >0·9 aw (20% water content) heated spontaneously when aeration was unrestricted, the maximum temperature attained increasing with aw to 58 °C at 1·0 aw (39% water content). The presence of many unripe grains increased the tendency to heat at a given mean water content. Although heating was prevented by sheeting to restrict the air supply, it could occur subsequently when the sheeting was removed. Both heating and restriction of the air supply were associated with increased carbon dioxide (to >25%) and decreased oxygen concentrations (to <5%). Germination of grain after 6·9 months storage was correlated with aw; germination levels approaching 100% were retained only at about 0·7 aw (13·5% water content). Colonisation by Aspergillus species was correlated with aw and temperature and similar correlations with Penicillium species were also found, with P. verrucosum var. cyclopium abundant at 0·85-0·90 aw (17·20% water content) and P. piceum, P. funiculosum and P. capsulatum at 0·90-0·95 aw (20–25% water content). In sealed containers P. roquefortii occurred at 1·00 aw (39% water content) and P. hordei at 0·90-0·92 aw (20–22% water content). Spores of fungi and actinomycetes formed during spontaneous heating of grain survived 6 months sealed storage although Absidia corymbifera and Micropolyspora faeni may have declined in numbers. Fungicides applied to the ripening grain had only limited effect on the colonisation of the grain during storage. 相似文献

A database of alpha-helical antimicrobial peptides (AMP) was established and their minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) were compared with their physiochemical characteristics in an attempt to establish those features that determine efficacy. There is no significant difference in AMP sensitivity between Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria but fungi did require higher concentrations to achieve the same degree of growth inhibition. For antibacterial peptides there appears to be a positive correlation between MIC and hydrophobic arc size and a negative correlation between MIC and net charge. 相似文献
