The aim of the study was to determine the existence of Ascogregarina spp. in larvae of Aedes albopictus and Aedes aegypti collected in urban and suburban areas of Manaus, Amazon region, Brazil. Between May 2004 and July 2005, the mid-gut of 3rd and 4th instar larvae, collected in tire traps in six neighborhoods of Manaus, was examined for the presence of trophozoites of Ascogregarina. Coexistence of Ae. albopictus larvae infected by A. taiwanensis, and Ae. aegypti larvae by A. culicis, was detected in traps in the field. The percentage of Ae. albopictus larvae infected by A. taiwanensis ranged from 21% to 93.5% and of Ae. aegypti larvae infected by A. culicis from 22% to 95%. The mean infection intensity was similar in both species of Aedes. In traps located in Mauazinho, the replacement of Ae. aegypti by Ae. albopictus larvae was observed. In Manaus, Ae. albopictus larvae were parasitized by A. taiwanensis, and Ae. aegypti larvae by A. culicis. Infection rates were high when the species of Aedes were found separately.  相似文献

This study reports for the first time the induction of immunity in Antheraea assama Ww larvae against bacterial flacherie. In silkworms group of disease caused by bacteria are collectively called "flacherie." This refers to the flaccid condition of the larvae due to the infections of bacterial strains pathogenic to muga silkworm. Antibacterial activity against pathogenic Pseudomonas aeruginosa AC-3 causing flacherie, was induced by injection of heat-killed cells of the same strain. Experiments on larval survivability and viable cell count revealed peak immune response on third day. Comparison of the amount of food ingested, excreta produced and larval weight of the saline-injected control, live bacteria-challenged larvae and heat-killed bacteria-injected larvae "(vaccinated)" confirmed the development of immunity against bacterial infection in the "vaccinated" set. The haemolymph of A. assama larvae was analyzed for proteins associated with bacterial infection. Out of the total 32 detected proteins, eleven (A1-2, A15-20, A22-23, and A29) were constitutively synthesized in both the control and live bacteria-injected larvae. Four inducible proteins A4, A9-10, and A21 were detected in the haemolymph of the live bacteria-injected larvae. Synthesis of rest of the proteins varied between the control and their live bacteria-injected counterparts. General protein profile of "vaccinated" larvae injected with live bacteria were found to be similar to that of the saline-injected control.  相似文献

Abstract.  1. To clarify the use of honeydew in foraging for aphids by larvae of the ladybird beetle, Coccinella septempunctata L., searching behaviour of ladybird larvae for Aphis craccivora Koch and Acyrthosiphon pisum Harris and the abundance of honeydew under aphid colonies were examined in laboratory experiments.
2. More larvae responded by climbing the plants with aphids than responded to plants without aphids. When the plants were replaced with sticks, in order to exclude visual and olfactory cues from plants and aphids, more larvae of C. septempunctata climbed sticks above the area that contained honeydew than climbed sticks above the area that did not contain honeydew. Then, ladybird larvae use honeydew as a contact kairomone when foraging for aphids.
3.  Aphis craccivora deposited a larger number of honeydew droplets beneath the plants than did similar numbers of A. pisum. Thus, C. septempunctata larvae licked more frequently the honeydew of A. craccivora than that of A. pisum and spent longer searching on the area containing honeydew of A. craccivora than that of A. pisum . Consequently, a larger number of larvae climbed a stick above honeydew of A. craccivora than that of A. pisum.
4. It may be also considered that C. septempunctata larvae can distinguish honeydew of the two aphid species and respond more strongly to A. craccivora than A. pisum.  相似文献

分别采用水丝蚓(Limnodrilus sp.)、卤虫无节幼体(Artemia nauplii)、枝角类(Moina sp.)和人工饲料饲养西伯利亚鲟仔鱼30 d,研究不同开口饵料对西伯利亚鲟仔鱼生长、存活率和体成分的影响.结果表明:卤虫无节幼体为西伯利亚鲟最适开口饵料,仔鱼的存活率最高(96.67%); 投喂水丝蚓组生长速度最快;而人工饲料组生长速度明显低于其他组,且成活率最低.不同开口饵料组间仔鱼体成分差异显著,人工饲料组水分含量最高,且粗蛋白和粗灰分含量最低.采用卤虫无节幼体为西伯利亚鲟仔鱼开口饵料,然后采用水丝蚓进行强化培育,能获得较好的生长速度和存活率.  相似文献

Twenty-four Achatina fulica from Pai-sha of the Pescardores Islands, where no Angiostrogylus cantonensis has been found in A. fulica(4), were inoculated with the first stage larvae of A cantonensis. One snail was killed every day after 24 days following inoculation. The lung of each snail was separated and examined for larvae under microscope. The same lung was then digested with pepsin. The larvae recovered after pepsin digestion were examined for more detailed morphology. This study confirmed that the first stage larvae of A. cantonensis passed through the respiratory pore to the lung of A. fulica and developed into infectious form (3rd stage larvae) in the lung. The second and third stage larvae were found in the lung on the 7th and 17th day respectively after inoculation. Worm capsules were found in the lung on the 12th day after inoculation and the size of capsule was in proportion to the duration of the infection.  相似文献

Injection of stationary phase culture-supernatants of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa into the hemolymph of silkworm larvae caused their death, whereas a culture-supernatant of a non-pathogenic strain of Escherichia coli did not. A culture-supernatant of a mutant of agr, a global virulence regulator of S. aureus that is required for exotoxin production, was much less toxic to silkworm larvae. A culture-supernatant of a disruption mutant of the S. aureus beta-toxin gene did not kill larvae, whereas one of a deletion mutant of alpha-toxin, gamma-toxin, or aureolysin killed larvae, indicating that the beta-toxin gene is required for staphylococcal supernatant-mediated killing of silkworm larvae. The 50% lethal doses (LD50) of staphylococcal alpha-toxin and beta-toxin, Pseudomonas exotoxin A and diphtheria toxin were 12 microg/g, 9 microg/g, 0.14 microg/g and 1.1 microg/g, respectively. As the purified toxins killed the larvae, silkworm larvae could be used as a model to study the actions of pathogenic bacterial toxins in animal bodies.  相似文献

The third-stage larvae of Anisakis simplex sensu lato (s.l.) are found in many marine fishes. To ensure food safety, it is important to determine whether these larvae are present in the body muscle of commercial fish species. However, there is little information regarding the tissue specificity of Anisakis and two of its sibling species, A. simplex sensu stricto (s.s.) and Anisakis pegreffii, that are common in marine fish in Japanese waters. We orally challenged rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum)), and olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus (Temminck and Schlegel)) with L3 larvae of these two sibling species and monitored infection for 5weeks. In rainbow trout, A. simplex s.s., but not A. pegreffii larvae, migrated into the body muscle. A small number of freely moving A. pegreffii larvae were recovered within the body cavity. In olive flounder, A. simplex s.s. larvae were found in both the body cavity and body muscle. A. pegreffii larvae were found only in the body cavity and primarily encapsulated in lumps. Our results indicate that there are differences in the sites of infection and host specificity between the two sibling species of A. simplex s.l.  相似文献

The sea star Astropecten scoparius has feeding bipinnarian larvae, whereas its congener Astropecten latespinosus has nonfeeding barrel-shaped larvae. To investigate evolutionary changes in the development of asteroids, we performed reciprocal crosses between these two species with different larval forms. In the cross between A. scoparius eggs and A. latespinosus sperm, embryos developed into bipinnaria-like larvae. The larvae exhibited either a functional digestive system (a maternal feature) or a nonfunctional digestive system with the tip of the archenteron not connected to the stomodeum (a paternal characteristic). However, in the reciprocal cross between A. latespinosus eggs and A. scoparius sperm, barrel-shaped larvae resembling those of A. latespinosus were produced, in addition to bipinnaria-like larvae, some with functional digestive systems and some with nonfunctional ones. Juveniles were produced from all types of crosses. 18S rDNA was used as a gene marker in cycle sequencing analysis to investigate the genetic features of these juveniles. The sequences of juveniles from bipinnaria-like larvae showed double-peak nucleotide signals, indicating a biparental genome. On the other hand, juveniles from barrel-shaped larvae from A. latespinosus eggs and A. scoparius sperm showed the same sequence as A. latespinosus juveniles. This suggests that bipinnaria-like larvae of both crosses are always hybrids, whereas barrel-shaped larvae develop parthenogenetically.  相似文献

Changes in the expression of genes were observed during development in populations of Anopheles (Anopheles) intermedius and Anopheles (Anopheles) mattogrossensis. Esterase showed seven zones of activity: EST1 was present in all developmental stages of both species; EST2 was observed only in larvae of A. intermedius and larvae and pupae of A. mattogrossensis, with greater activity in pupae; EST3 and EST5 were present in all developmental stages, with greater intensity in larvae; EST4 and EST6 showed weak activity in larvae of A. mattogrossensis and was not found in A. intermedius. Leucine aminopeptidase showed four zones of activity, of which LAP1 and LAP2 were found in all stages of A. intermedius, with highest activity in larvae, and in larvae only of A. mattogrossensis. LAP3 was detected in all stages of A. mattogrossensis and in larvae only of A. intermedius. LAP4 was detected only in larvae and pupae of A. mattogrossensis, with greater intensity in pupae. alpha-Glycerophosphate dehydrogenase showed a single zone of activity, detected in older fourth-instar larvae and becoming more intense from the pupal stage onwards.  相似文献

A new method is described for the isolation of cultured nematode larvae. This allows effective separation of larvae from fecal contamination, exsheathed larvae from cast sheaths, and viable larvae from nonviable larvae. The method involves the use of cellulose strips and has been assessed using larvae from 2 hookworm species, Necator americanus and Ancylostoma ceylanicum. Pretreatment of the cellulose strips with 1.0% (w/v) of the nonionic surfactant, Pluronic F-68, significantly increased larval recovery of both species.  相似文献

The host acceptance of neonate Alabama argillacea (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) larvae to Bt cotton plants exerts a strong influence on the potential risk that this pest will develop resistance to Bt cotton. This will also determine the efficiency of management strategies to prevent its resistance such as the “refuge-in-the-bag” strategy. In this study, we assessed the acceptance of neonate A. argillacea larvae to Bt and non-Bt cotton plants at different temperatures during the first 24 h after hatching. Two cotton cultivars were used in the study, one a Bt DP 404 BG (Bollgard) cultivar, and the other, an untransformed isoline, DP 4049 cultivar. There was a greater acceptance by live neonate A. argillacea larvae for the non-Bt cotton plants compared with the Bt cotton plants, especially in the time interval between 18 and 24 h. The percentages of neonate A. argillacea larvae found on Bt or non-Bt plants were lower when exposed to temperatures of 31 and 34°C. The low acceptance of A. argillacea larvae for Bt cotton plants at high temperatures stimulated the dispersion of A. argillacea larvae. Our results support the hypothesis that the dispersion and/or feeding behavior of neonate A. argillacea larvae is different between Bt and non-Bt cotton. The presence of the Cry1Ac toxin in Bt cotton plants, and its probable detection by the A. argillacea larvae tasting or eating it, increases the probability of dispersion from the plant where the larvae began. These findings may help to understand how the A. argillacea larvae detect the Cry1Ac toxin in Bt cotton and how the toxin affects the dispersion behavior of the larvae over time. Therefore, our results are extremely important for the management of resistance in populations of A. argillacea on Bt cotton.  相似文献

AIMS: A reliable procedure for the identification of Paenibacillus larvae subsp. larvae, the causal agent of American Foulbrood disease of honey bees (Apis mellifera L.) based on the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and subspecies - specific primers is described. METHODS AND RESULTS: By using ERIC-PCR, an amplicon of ca 970 bp was found among P. l. larvae strains but not in other closely related species. Based on the nucleotide sequence data of this amplicon, we designed the pair of oligonucleotides KAT 1 and KAT 2, which were assayed as primers in a PCR reaction. A PCR amplicon of the expected size ca 550 bp was only found in P. l. larvae strains. CONCLUSIONS: This PCR assay provides a specific detection for P. l. larvae. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The developed PCR assay is highly specific because can differentiate Paenibacillus larvae subsp. larvae from the closely related Paenibacillus larvae subsp. pulvifaciens. The technique can be directly used to detect presence or absence of P. l. larvae spores in honey bee brood samples and contaminated honeys.  相似文献

Among herbivorous insects, the ability to change adaptive traits plastically in response to novel host plants is advantageous for coping with sudden environmental shifts. The host plants in our study were two closely related species, viz., Arabis flagellosa (tougher leaves, i.e., they are physically defended) and A. gemmifera (softer leaves that are physiologically defended). We demonstrated that young larvae of the butterfly Pieris napi are able to plastically change head size during development in response to changes in food plant species. When larvae were fed the physically defended A. flagellosa, the head sizes of third instar larvae emerging from eggs originally collected from leaves of both A. flagellosa and A. gemmifera became identically larger. When larvae fed on the physiologically defended A. gemmifera, the head sizes of third instar larvae emerging from eggs originally collected from leaves of both A. flagellosa and A. gemmifera became identically smaller. When leaves of A. flagellosa were presented to fourth instars reared on A. flagellosa, larvae with larger heads consumed more food than those with smaller heads. In contrast, when leaves of the physiologically defended A. gemmifera were presented to fourth instar larvae reared on A. gemmifera, larvae with smaller heads processed more food than those with larger heads. Hence, larvae of P. napi retain the capacity for adaptive plastic responses to novel host plant species.  相似文献

【目的】二点委夜蛾Athetis lepigone是我国夏玉米上的一种新害虫,对玉米苗危害严重。由于其幼虫常隐蔽在收割机收获小麦后留在田间的麦秸和麦糠下,防治非常困难,因此开展二点委夜蛾幼虫引诱剂的研究具有重要的意义。【方法】本实验用“Y”型嗅觉仪测定了二点委夜蛾幼虫对麦秆﹑麦糠﹑玉米苗﹑麦麸﹑炒麦麸5种试材的行为反应;利用顶空固相微萃取(HS-SPME)与气相色谱 质谱联用仪(GC-MS)分析,比较了炒麦麸、麦麸中挥发物的成分,并从中挑选出6种化合物单体、8种混合物进行室内诱集实验。【结果】5种试材中炒麦麸引诱效果最好。6种单体中, 2-庚酮在5 μg/μL浓度下的引诱效果最好,引诱率为75.9%。8种混合物中,2 庚酮+苯甲醛+对二甲苯的引诱效果较好,引诱率为72.7%,但引诱效果不如2 庚酮单体。【结论】结果说明,2-庚酮对二点委夜蛾幼虫有强烈的引诱作用,从而为二点委夜蛾幼虫的田间诱杀技术提供了研究基础。  相似文献

The third-stage (L3) larvae of Anisakis, which are the etiological agents of human anisakiasis, have been categorized morphologically into Anisakis Type I larvae and Anisakis Type II larvae. Genetic analysis has allowed easy identification of these larvae: Anisakis Type I larvae include the species Anisakis simplex sensu stricto, Anisakis pegreffii, Anisakis simplex C, Anisakis typica, Anisakis ziphidarum, and Anisakis nascettii, whereas Anisakis Type II larvae include the species Anisakis physeteris, Anisakis brevispiculata, and Anisakis paggiae. Since human consumption of raw fish and squid is common in Japan, we investigated Anisakis L3 larvae in 44 specimens of Beryx splendens from Japanese waters. A total of 730 Anisakis L3 larvae collected from B. splendens were divided morphologically into 4 types: Type I, Type II, and 2 other types that were similar to Anisakis Type III and Type IV described by Shiraki (1974). Anisakis Type II, Type III, and Type IV larvae all had a short ventriculus, but their tails were morphologically different. In addition, data from genetic analysis indicated that Anisakis Type II, Type III, and Type IV larvae could be identified as A. physeteris, A. brevispiculata, and A. paggiae, respectively. Therefore, A. physeteris, A. brevispiculata, and A. paggiae can be readily differentiated not only by genetic analysis but also by morphological characteristics of L3 larvae.  相似文献

Northern Belize has extensive herbaceous wetlands. Those dominated by sparse emergent macrophytes, rushes (Eleocharis spp.) and sawgrass (Cladium jamaicense Crantz), often develop floating mats of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae). These mats provide suitable habitat for larvae of the malaria transmitting mosquito Anopheles albimanus Wiedemann. Presence/absence of A. albimanus larvae and cyanobacterial mats was assessed in marshes located throughout northern Belize. Of the 21 marshes examined during the 1993 wet and 1994 dry seasons, cyanobacterial mats were found in 11 and A. albimanus larvae were detected in 9 of these 11 marshes. No A. albimanus larvae were found in marshes without cyanobacterial mats. Mosquito larvae were collected along two 1,000 m long transects in both the wet season (August 1993) and the dry season (March 1994) to delineate larval distribution in marshes with cyanobacterial mats. A. albimanus larval densities in cyanobacterial mats were relatively high in both seasons: 2.8 and 2.3 larvae per dip in the wet and dry seasons, respectively, in Chan Chen marsh; and 0.8 and 1.02 larvae per dip in Buena Vista marsh. Numbers of larvae per dip did not significantly change with increasing distance from houses/pastures or margins of the marsh. A field experiment showed a strong preference of ovipositing A. albimanus for cyanobacterial mats. Higher temperatures and higher CO2 emissions from cyanobacterial mats are possible ovipositional cues.  相似文献

1. The dung beetle Aphodius ater and the yellow dungfly Scatophaga stercoraria are temporally co-occurring species in sheep dung, which they use for reproduction and nutrition ( A. ater ) or for reproduction only ( S. stercoraria ) during the spring in northern Germany. Scatophaga stercoraria uses fresh sheep dung pellets a few hours old for oviposition, whereas A. ater lays eggs into 2–10-day-old pellets. In the present study, the egg laying behaviour of A. ater in sheep dung in relation to the presence of larvae of S. stercoraria was investigated experimentally.
2. Choice experiments, based on examining the egg laying behaviour of beetles in 2- and 4-day-old pellets with and without high and low densities of fly larvae, showed the following. In 2-day-old pellets, the beetles did not distinguish between pellets without fly larvae or with fly larvae at low larval density but avoided laying eggs into pellets with a high larval density. In 4-day-old pellets, the beetles always preferred to lay their eggs into pellets without fly larvae, regardless of larval density.
3. The influence of different densities of larvae of S. stercoraria on dung depletion was examined by measuring the dry weight, organic matter content and organic nitrogen content of the remaining dung after larval development. The presence of the larvae led to a reduction in all three parameters.
4. The beetles' behaviour of laying eggs into older pellets, and their awareness of the presence of high densities of fly larvae, enables them to avoid egg laying into pellets that will have been depleted by fly larvae before the beetle larvae have finished their development.  相似文献

The relationships between larvae and adults of Anisakis from the Mediterranean Sea and North-East Atlantic Ocean were analysed by multilocus electrophoresis. The correspondence of type I larvae with the A. simplex complex, including the sibling species A. simplex A and B, and of type II larvae with A. physeteris is confirmed. 19 of the 22 loci studied discriminated between the two larval types. Biochemical keys are given for the electrophoretic identification of A. simplex A, A. simplex B and A. physeteris, at both the larval and adult stages.  相似文献

A study of acquired resistance in guinea-pigs, guinea-fowl and tortoises to larvae of the ticks Amblyomma hebraeum Koch and A.marmoreum Koch (Acari: Ixodidae) showed that repeated infestations of the laboratory host resulted in a 29.3-49.4% reduction respectively in weight of engorged larvae. No resistance was induced in guinea-fowl, the natural host for larvae of both species. A small decline in the mean weight of engorged larvae was observed for both species of ticks after three successive infestations on tortoises. The reduction in weight was more pronounced in A.hebraeum (14.5%) which does not naturally feed on tortoises than for A.marmoreum (8.4%), a common tick on this host. The occurrence of acquired resistance in natural tick host relationships as opposed to unnatural tick host relationships is discussed.  相似文献

A total of ten larval Ammodytes were collected from the Yellow (5 specimens) and Bering Seas (5), and a 638 base pair sequence from their mitochondrial DNA COI genes was analyzed for species identification. Sequences were compared with those of adult Ammodytes personatus from the East (4), the Yellow (2) and the East China Seas (2), and Japan (3). Average genetic distance was 0.064 between the Yellow Sea larvae and the Bering Sea larvae, but was 0.0043 between the Yellow Sea larvae and all the adult A. personatus except two individuals from the East Sea. NJ-tree showed that five Yellow Sea larvae were closely clustered with adult A. personatus, except for two individuals. The five Bering Sea larvae were located distantly from adult A. personatus, and are thought to be A. hexapterus. We found morphological differences among two populations of A. personatus larvae and A. hexapterus larvae in morphometric characters and pigmentation. Our results indicated that the East Sea population of A. personatus is closer to A. hexapterus than to the Yellow Sea population of A. personatus, suggesting the East Sea population may be part of separate species.  相似文献
