- 1. We have examined the prooxidative–antioxidative reaction to extremely low temperatures (−130 °C) during a one-time cryostimulation in 15 young, clinically healthy individuals.
- 2. The total lipid peroxides as the total oxidative status (TOS) and the total antioxidative status (TAS) were measured in blood plasma collected in the morning of the day of cryostimulation, 30 min after the cryostimulation, and on the following morning.
- 3. The level of stress expressed by total oxidative status in plasma, resulting from exposure to extremely low temperatures, was statistically significantly lowered 30 min after leaving the cryochamber than prior to the exposure. The next day, the TOS level still remained lower than the initial values. The TAS level decreased after leaving the cryochamber and remained elevated the following day.

Although the importance of glutathione in protection against oxidative stress is well recognized, the role of physiological levels of glutathione and other endogenous antioxidants in protecting against exercise-induced oxidative stress is less clear. We evaluated the role of glutathione and selected antioxidant enzymes as determinants of lipid peroxidation at rest and in response to exercise in men (n = 13-14) aged 20-30 years, who cycled for 40 min at 60% of their maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max). Levels of plasma thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (plasma TBARS) and blood oxidised glutathione (GSSG) increased by about 50% in response to exercise. Mean blood reduced glutathione (GSH) decreased by 13% with exercise. Of the measured red blood cell (RBC) antioxidant enzyme activities, only selenium-dependent glutathione peroxidase (Se-GPX) activity rose following exercise. In univariate regression analysis, plasma TBARS levels at rest predicted postexercise plasma TBARS and the exercise-induced change in total glutathione (TGSH). Blood GSSG levels at rest were strongly determinant of postexercise levels. Multiple regression analysis showed blood GSH to be a determinant of plasma TBARS at rest. The relative changes in TGSH were determinant of postexercise plasma TBARS. In summary, higher blood GSH and lower plasma TBARS at rest were associated with lower resting, and exercise-induced, lipid peroxidation. Subjects with a favourable blood glutathione redox status at rest maintained a more favourable redox status in response to exercise-induced oxidative stress. Changes in blood GSH and TGSH in response to exercise were closely associated with both resting and exercise-induced plasma lipid peroxidation. These results underscore the critical role of glutathione homeostasis in modulating exercise-induced oxidative stress and, conversely, the effect of oxidative stress at rest on exercise-induced changes in glutathione redox status. 相似文献

The anti-inflammatory effect induced by exposure to low temperature might trigger the endocrine function of muscle and fat tissue. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the influence of the whole body cryostimulation (CRY) on irisin, a myokine which activates oxygen consumption in fat cells as well as thermogenesis. In addition, the relationship between hepcidin (Hpc) – hormone regulating iron metabolism, and inflammation was studied.A group of middle aged men (n = 12, 38 ± 9 years old, BMI > 30 kg m−2) participated in the study. Subjects were exposed to a series of 10 sessions in a cryogenic chamber (once a day at 9:30 am, for 3 min, at temperature −110 °C). Blood samples were collected before the first cryostimulation and after completing the last one. Prior to treatment body composition and fitness level were determined. The applied protocol of cryostimulation lead to rise the blood irisin in obese non-active men (338.8 ± 42.2 vs 407.6 ± 118.5 ng mL−1), whereas has no effect in obese active men (371.5 ± 30.0 vs 343.3 ± 47.6 ng mL−1). Values recorded 24 h after the last cryo-session correlated significantly with the fat tissue, yet inversely with the skeletal muscle mass. Therefore, we concluded the subcutaneous fat tissue to be the main source of irisin in response to cold exposures. The applied cold treatment reduced the high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) and Hpc concentration confirming its anti-inflammatory effect. 相似文献

A group of fourteen healthy young male volunteers was examined to define more exactly the relations between lecithin cholesterol acyltransferase activity (LCAT), fractional cholesterol esterification rate (FER), total cholesterol (TC) and its free and esterified fractions (FC, CE) in skeletal muscles under physiological conditions. The mean values (+/- S.D.) of LCAT activity (95.4 +/- 16.3 mumol .1(-1) per hour), and FER (7.45 +/- 1.54% per hour) corresponded to published data on normolipidaemic healthy men of normal body weight. The mean value of TC in muscles was 332 +/- 83 micrograms per 100 mg of non-collagen protein, of which 14 +/- 7.4 per cent was formed by cholesterol esters. There was positive correlation between TC in muscles and age. Significant positive correlations between FER and the content of esterified cholesterol in muscles, and between FER and the proportion of esterified to total muscle cholesterol were found. These results suggest a close interrelation of cholesterol ester metabolism in the plasma and in slow pool tissues. 相似文献

- The changes which occur in a human body subjected to cryogenic temperatures are still not completely understood. Thus the aim of this study was to evaluate changes in blood circulation induced by a single exposure to very low temperature during whole-body cryostimulation of young and clinically healthy male subjects. Prior to the study, candidates underwent a medical examination in order to eliminate individuals with contraindications towards cryostimulation.

- The study included 40 young men aged 22±0.7 years, average body weight 76.65±7.8 kg and height 175.5±7.2 cm. The participants were exposed to extremely low temperatures in a cryogenic chamber. Each session lasted for 3 min at −130 °C and was preceded by 30 s of adaptation in a vestibule at −60 °C. Blood pressure and heart rate were measured before entering the chamber, immediately after exiting, and 10 and 20 min after exiting.

- Our results showed a significant increase in systolic blood pressure after cryostimulation (by an average of 21 mmHg in comparison with the initial level before cryostimulation) and an increase in diastolic blood pressure after the cryostimulation (by 9 mmHg). The increase in systolic blood pressure was accompanied by a significant decrease in heart rate (by about 10 bpm). Cryostimulation of the whole body is a stress factor and a stimulus for the body which significantly increases systolic blood pressure, but the changes are temporary and not harmful for normotensive individuals.

The correlations of blood pressure to various indices of muscularity and fatness were studied in 183 young healthy men (mean age 19.7, SD 2.1 years). Systolic pressure showed significant positive correlations with body fat percentage, isometric strength of trunk extensors, body mass index, lean body mass, strength of leg extensors, heart rate, and the sum of four skinfolds. Diastolic pressure had significant positive correlations with body mass index, lean body mass, body fat percentage, sum of skinfolds, strength of leg extensors, strength of trunk extensors, and age. A stepwise selective multiple regression analysis for systolic pressure resulted in four significantly correlating variables: body fat percentage (p less than 0.001), heart rate (p less than 0.01), lean body mass (p less than 0.05), and strength of trunk extensors per kg body weight (p less than 0.05). For diastolic pressure the analysis resulted in two explaining variables: body mass index (p less than 0.001) and age (p less than 0.05). In a regression equation with 13 variables the strength of trunk flexors was negatively correlated with diastolic pressure. It is concluded that both fatness and muscularity are factors related to blood pressure in young men. The muscularity effect is more clearly associated with trunk and leg extensor strength. 相似文献

Role of taurine supplementation to prevent exercise-induced oxidative stress in healthy young men 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Summary. To evaluate the protective effects of taurine supplementation on exercise-induced oxidative stress and exercise performance, eleven men aged 18–20 years were selected to participate in two identical bicycle ergometer exercises until exhaustion. Single cell gel assay (SCG assay) was used to study DNA damage in white blood cells (WBC). Pre-supplementation of taurine, a significant negative correlation was found between plasma taurine concentration before exercise and plasma thiobaribituric-acid reactive substance (TBARS) 6hr after exercise (r=–0.642, p<0.05). WBC showed a significant increase in DNA strand breakage 6hr and 24hr after exercise. Seven-day taurine supplementation reduced serum TBARS before exercise (p<0.05) and resulted in a significantly reduced DNA migration 24hr after exercise (p<0.01). Significant increases were also found in VO2max, exercise time to exhaustion and maximal workload in test with taurine supplementation (p<0.05). After supplementation, the change in taurine concentration showed positive correlations with the changes in exercise time to exhaustion and maximal workload. The results suggest that taurine may attenuate exercise-induced DNA damage and enhance the capacity of exercise due to its cellular protective properties. 相似文献

To test the influence of the accumulation of metabolites on exercise-induced hormone responses, plasma concentrations of
cortisol, growth hormone (GH), insulin, testosterone, thyrotropin (TSH), free thyroxine (fT4) and triiodothyronine (T3) were compared during exercise performed under normal conditions (control) and under conditions of restricted blood flow
of exercising leg muscles (ischaemia) in nine healthy young men. Blood supply was reduced by 15%–20% by the application of
50 mmHg external pressure over the exercising leg. During 45-min cycling exercise during ischaemia the increase in GH concentration
was twice as large as under normal conditions. Despite the below-threshold exercise intensity for activation of the pituitary-adrenocortical
system under normal exercise conditions ischaemic exercise elicited cortisol and T3 responses (concentration increases of 83% and 9.5%, respectively). Ischaemic exercise attenuated the decrease of plasma insulin
concentration found under normal conditions. The concentrations of testosterone, TSH and fT4 were not changed significantly during exercise performed in either condition. The results support the suggested essential
role of muscle metaboreceptors in the control of hormone responses during muscle activity.

Screen-media use among young children is highly prevalent, disproportionately high among children from lower-income families and racial/ethnic minorities, and may have adverse effects on obesity risk. Few systematic reviews have examined early intervention strategies to limit TV or total screen time; none have examined strategies to discourage parents from putting TVs in their children's bedrooms or remove TVs if they are already there. In order to identify strategies to reduce TV viewing or total screen time among children <12 years of age, we conducted a systematic review of seven electronic databases to June 2011, using the terms "intervention" and "television," "media," or "screen time." Peer-reviewed intervention studies that reported frequencies of TV viewing or screen-media use in children under age 12 were eligible for inclusion. We identified 144 studies; 47 met our inclusion criteria. Twenty-nine achieved significant reductions in TV viewing or screen-media use. Studies utilizing electronic TV monitoring devices, contingent feedback systems, and clinic-based counseling were most effective. While studies have reduced screen-media use in children, there are several research gaps, including a relative paucity of studies targeting young children (n = 13) or minorities (n = 14), limited long-term (>6 month) follow-up data (n = 5), and few (n = 4) targeting removing TVs from children's bedrooms. Attention to these issues may help increase the effectiveness of existing strategies for screen time reduction and extend them to different populations. 相似文献

The main purpose of this study was to investigate the acute local and systemic effects of low-load resistance exercise (30% 1RM) with partial vascular occlusion on exercise-induced free radical production and to compare these effects with other established training methods.Fifteen young and healthy males (25?±?3 years) performed the following four sessions in a counterbalanced order on separate days: low-load resistance exercise (LI: 30% 1RM), low-load resistance exercise with blood flow restriction (LIBR: 30% 1RM), high-load resistance exercise (HI: 80% 1RM) and an additional session without exercise but blood flow restriction only (BR). Blood samples were obtained 15?min prior to and immediately after exercise sessions from the right index finger and first toe. To analyze concentrations of reactive oxygen species (ROS), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy was used. Additionally, mitochondrial ROS production was measured by adding inhibitors of electron transport chain complex III. There was an increased systemic ROS generation after the LIBR session from 0.837?±?0.093 to 0.911?±?0.099?µmol/l/min. However, no local or systemic time?×?condition interaction was detected for ROS production. Regarding mitochondrial ROS production, results were not different between the conditions. Although the low-load resistance exercise session with partial vascular occlusion elicited systemic increases of ROS production, no significant changes were seen on a local level. We assume that this ROS concentration might not be high enough to induce cellular damage but is rather involved in muscle remodulation. However, this needs to be confirmed by future research. 相似文献

Crouse, Stephen F., Barbara C. O'Brien, Peter W. Grandjean,Robert C. Lowe, J. James Rohack, John S. Green, and Homer Tolson. Training intensity, blood lipids, and apolipoproteins in men withhigh cholesterol. J. Appl. Physiol.82(1): 270-277, 1997.Twenty-six hypercholesterolemic men (meancholesterol, 258 mg/dl; age, 47 yr; weight, 81.9 kg) completed 24 wk ofcycle ergometer training (3 days/wk, 350 kcal/session) at either high(n = 12) or moderate (n = 14) intensity (80 and 50%maximal O2 uptake, respectively, randomly assigned) to test the influence of training intensity on bloodlipid and apolipoprotein (apo) concentrations. Allphysiological, lipid, and apo measurements were completed at 0, 8, 16, and 24 wk. Lipid data were analyzed via two × fourrepeated-measures analysis of variance ( = 0.0031). Trainingproduced a significant decrease in body weight and increase in maximalO2 uptake. No interactions betweenintensity and weeks of training were noted for any lipid or apovariable, and no between-group differences were significant before orthroughout training. Therefore, intensity did not affect the trainingresponse. Regardless of intensity, apo AI and apo B fell 9 and 13%,respectively, by week 16 and remainedlower through week 24 (P < 0.0003). Total cholesterol felltransiently (5.5%) by week 16 (P < 0.0021) but returned to initiallevels by week 24. Triglyceride,low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol, and high-density-lipoprotein (HDL)cholesterol did not change with training. In contrast,HDL2 cholesterol rose 79% aboveinitial levels by week 8 and 82%above initial levels by week 24 (P < 0.0018);HDL3 cholesterol fell 8 and 13%over the same training intervals (P < 0.0026). These data show that changes in blood lipid and apoconcentrations that accompany training in hypercholesterolemic men arenot influenced by exercise intensity when caloric expenditure is heldconstant. 相似文献

Young African-American men have altered macrovascular and microvascular function. In this cross-sectional study, we tested the hypothesis that vascular dysfunction in young African-American men would contribute to greater central blood pressure (BP) compared with young white men. Fifty-five young (23 yr), healthy men (25 African-American and 30 white) underwent measures of vascular structure and function, including carotid artery intima-media thickness (IMT) and carotid artery beta-stiffness via ultrasonography, aortic pulse wave velocity, aortic augmentation index (AIx), and wave reflection travel time (Tr) via radial artery tonometery and a generalized transfer function, and microvascular vasodilatory capacity of forearm resistance arteries with strain-gauge plethysmography. African-American men had similar brachial systolic BP (SBP) but greater aortic SBP (P<0.05) and carotid SBP (P<0.05). African-American men also had greater carotid IMT, greater carotid beta-stiffness, greater aortic stiffness and AIx, reduced aortic Tr and reduced peak hyperemic, and total hyperemic forearm blood flow compared with white men (P<0.05). In conclusion, young African-American men have greater central BP, despite comparable brachial BP, compared with young white men. Diffuse macrovascular and microvascular dysfunction manifesting as carotid hypertrophy, increased stiffness of central elastic arteries, heightened resistance artery constriction/blunted resistance artery dilation, and greater arterial wave reflection are present at a young age in apparently healthy African-American men, and conventional brachial BP measurement does not reflect this vascular burden. 相似文献
