A contextualizing image (CI) is a powerful central image of a dream which appears to contextualize (provide a picture-context for) the dreamer's emotion. For instance, dreamers who have experienced any serious traumatic event sometimes dream, I was overwhelmed by a tidal wave. This appears to picture their feeling of terror and/or vulnerability.A scoring system for CIs is examined here and is applied to dreams and daydreams supplied by 40 students. Two raters scoring dreams on a blind basis showed good inter-rater reliability. Recent dreams were shown to have more as well as more intense CIs than recent daydreams; likewise, dreams that stand out had more intense CIs than daydreams that stand out. Students with thin boundaries had more and more intense CIs than students with thick boundaries in their recent dreams and nightmare, but not so clearly in dreams and nightmares that stand out. The emotions judged as contextualized by the powerful images tended towards fear/terror and helplessness/vulnerability in dreams (especially in dreams that stand out) whereas emotions contextualized by images in daydreams showed a wide range with no clusters.  相似文献

Summary A mutant strain of Rhodococcus equi accumulates three metabolites from the androst-4-ene-3,17-dione or from its degradation intermediate, 3a-H-4(3'-propionic acid)-7a-methylhexahydro-1,5-indanedione (MEPHIP). These three metabolites are: 3a-H-4a(3'-propionic acid)-5-hydroxy-7a-methylhexahydro-1-indanone--lactone (HIL); 3a-H-4(3'-trans acrylic acid)-5-hydroxy-7a-methylhexahydro-1-indanone (2'-5-hydroxy-MEPHIP); and 3a-H-4(3'-hydroxy-3'-propionic acid)-5-hydroxy-7a-methylhexahydro-1-indanone (3'-hydroxy-HIL). The behaviour of this mutant allows us to propose a pathway for degradation of the intermediates, methylperhydroindanone propionates. Summary The total pigment and astaxanthin content ofPhaffia rhodozyma increased with increasing concentrations -pinene up to 500 l -pinene/l. Above this concentration the total pigment and astaxanthin content as well as the biomass production decreased. The addition of 500 l -pinene/l increased the total pigment content from 1652 g/g to 2201 g/g and the astaxanthin content from 1554 g/g to 1883 g/g. A sharp decrease in maximum specific growth rate occurred above 150 l -pinene/l.  相似文献

The production of pullulan from brewery wastes by Aureobasidium pullulans in shake flask culture was investigated. The maximum pullulan concentration (6.0g/l) was obtained after 72h of fermentation. The external addition of nutrients into the spent grain liquor improved significantly the production of pullulan. In this case, the highest values of pullulan concentration (11.0±0.5g/l), pullulan yield (48.2±1.5%), and sugar utilization (99.0±0.5%) were obtained in the medium (pH 6.5–7.5) supplemented with K2HPO4 0.5%, l-glutamic acid 1%, olive oil 2.5%, and Tween 800.5%.  相似文献

Residual toxicities of registered and selected experimental pesticides used on citrus against Agistemus industani Gonzalez (Acari: Stigmaeidae) were compared. Pesticides considered highly toxic to A. industani were: abamectin 0.15 EC at 731ml/ha+FC 435-66 petroleum oil at 46.8l/ha, pyridaben 75WP at 469g/ha, ethion 4EC at 7.01l/ha+FC 435-66 petroleum oil at 46.8l/ha, propargite 6.55 EC at 3.51l/ha, chlorfenapyr 2SC at 1.46l/ha applied alone or in combination with FC 435-66 petroleum oil at 46.8l/ha, sulphur 80DF at 16.81kg/ha, dicofol 4EC at 7.01l/ha, fenbutatin oxide 50WP at 2.24kg/ha, benomyl 50WP at 2.24kg/ha, benomyl 50WP at 1.68kg/ha+ferbam 76 GF at 5.60kg/ha, ferbam 76GF at 11.21kg/ha, neem oil 90EC at 46.8l/ha, and copper hydroxide DF (40% metallic copper) at 4.48kg metallic copper/ha+FC 435-66 petroleum oil at 46.8l/ha. Pesticides that were moderately to slightly toxic included: copper sulphate 98% at 4.48kg metallic copper/ha+FC 435-66 petroleum oil at 46.8l/ha, fenbuconazole 2F at 280ml/ha+FC 435-66 petroleum oil at 46.8l/ha, FC 435-66 petroleum oil applied alone at 46.8l/ha or 23.4l/ha, and diflubenzuron 25WP at 1.40kg/ha. Pesticides that were non-toxic included: fenbuconazole 2F at 585ml/ha, malathion 57EC at 5.85l/ha, FC 435-66 petroleum oil at 46.8l/ha, carbaryl 80S at 3.36kg/ha, chlorpyrifos 4EC at 4.68l/ha, and formetanate 92SP at 1.12kg/ha. Understanding the toxic effects of field weathered pesticides against key predacious mite species is important for effective IPM. The results of this study provide a comparison of direct and indirect toxic effects of various pesticides to A. industani under field conditions.  相似文献

Summary A comparison of the mRNAs for rabbit and human-hemoglobins shows that synonymous changes in codons have accumulated three times as rapidly as nucleotide replacements that produced changes in amino acids. This agrees with predictions based on the so-called neutral theory. In addition, seven codon changes that appear to be single-base changes (according to maximum parsimony) are actually two-base changes. This indicates that the construction of primordial sequences is of limited significance when based on inferences that assume minimum base changes for amino acid replacements.  相似文献

Summary The temporal muscles of the guinea pig show a sexual differentiation reflected in their histochemical enzyme pattern. Using histochemical methods for mitochondrial (SDH, -GPDH), and glycolytic enzymes (phosphorylase, LDH) it could be shown, that in adult animals the male muscle is a white muscle with marked activity of glycolytic enzymes, the female muscle a red muscle displaying high activity of mitochondrial enzymes. This differential enzyme pattern can be converted by the application of testosterone to the female type during the postnatal development. The male sex hormone thus affects the histochemical enzyme pattern of the muscle, converting the red, female into a white, male muscle in the female guinea pig.  相似文献

-Glucuronidase from callus cultures of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi was purified to apparent homogeneity by fractionated ammonium-sulfate precipitation and chromatography on diethylaminoethyl-cellulose, hydroxylapatite and baicalin-conjugated Sepharose 6B. A 650-fold purification was obtained by this purification system. When subjected to sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis the purified protein migrated as a single band with a molecular mass of 55 kDa. We determined that the native enzyme has a molecular mass of 230 kDa using gel-filtration chromatography. These results suggested that the enzyme exists as a homotetramer composed of four identical 55-kDa subunits. The enzyme showed a broad pH optimum between 7.0 and 8.0. The K m values were 9 M, 10 M, 30 M and 40 M for luteolin 3 -O--d-glucuronide, baicalin, wogonin 7-O--d-glucoronide and oroxlin 7-O--d-glucuronide, respectively. The ability of four exoglycosidases (-galactosidase, -glucosidase, -glucosidase and invertase) from the termite Macrotermes subhyalinus to catalyse tranglycosylation reactions was tested using lactose, cellobiose, maltose and sucrose as glycosyl donors and 2-phenylethanol as glycosyl acceptor. The experimental conditions were optimized in relation to the time course of the reaction, pH and concentrations of glycosyl donor and acceptor. Whereas the hydrolytic activity was largely predominant over the transferase activity with -galactosidase and -glucosidase, the transglycosylation activity represented 68% with -glucosidase. In addition, as demonstrated by the transglycosylation product formed, the hydrolysis of sucrose was catalysed by -glucosidase and not by invertase. On the basis of this work, -glucosidase from M. subhyalinus appears to be a valuable tool for the preparation of neoglycoconjugates.  相似文献

Bimolecular oxygenation of tri-liganded R-state human hemoglobin (HbA) is described by bi-exponential kinetics with association rate constants k = 27.2 ± 1.3 (M·sec)-1 and k = 62.9 ± 1.6 (M·sec)-1. Both the observed processes have been assigned to the bimolecular oxygenation of - and -subunits of the native tetrameric protein by molecular oxygen. The quantum yields of photodissociation within the completely oxygenated R-state HbA are = 0.0120 ± 0.0017 and = 0.044 ± 0.005 for - and -subunits, respectively. The oxygenation reactions of isolated PCMB- and PCMB-hemoglobin chains are described by mono-exponential kinetics with the association rate constants k = 44 ± 2 (M·sec)-1 and k = 51 ± 1 (M·sec)-1, respectively. The quantum yields of photodissociation of isolated PCMB- and PCMB-chains (0.056 ± 0.006 and 0.065 ± 0.006, respectively) are greater than that observed for appropriate subunits within the R-state of oxygenated HbA.  相似文献

We studied the segregation of the genes for 3-hydroxy-C19/21-steroid dehydrogenase types I and II (3-HSD I and II) in a consanguineous family affected with 3-hydroxy-5-C27steroid dehydrogenase (3-OH-C27-SD) deficiency. The results show that the C27 and C19/21 steroid dehydrogenase activities are encoded by distinct genes that are not in genetic linkage. Further kindreds would assist in screening for linkage of 3-OH-C27-SD to other members of the 3-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase gene family.  相似文献

Immature embryos of apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) cv. Royal with a PF index of 25–100 were used to regenerate plants in vitro using two methods. In the first case, callus was initiated on MS medium with 4.5 M 2, 4-D plus 0.44 M BA and regeneration of shoots from the callus occurred on MS medium with 4.4 M BA plus 1.0 M 2, 4-D. Zusammenfassung In einem Aufforstungsgebiet mit Japanlärche und Waldkiefer von 325 ha bei Lingen/Emsland mit 600 künstlichen Nisthöhlen konnten 1974–1993 jährlich 16–98 Brutpaare der Tannenmeise kontrolliert werden; rund zwei Drittel der Paare brüteten im Mittel aller Jahre zweimal pro Saison. Die Reproduktionsrate (Zahl flügger Nestlinge), die lokale Rekrutierungsrate (Zahl der sich fortpflanzenden geburtsortstreuen Jungvögel) und die Überlebensrate einjähriger Tannenmeisen-, die nur einmal brüteten (Gruppe 1), wird verglichen mit einjährigen mit zwei Bruten (Gruppe 2); einjährige mit mißglückter Erst- oder Zweitbrut blieben unberücksichtigt. Als Maß für die Überlebensrate gilt die lokale Wiederfangrate der . Gruppe 2 hatte eine gesichert höhere Reproduktions- und Rekrutierungsrate als Gruppe 1, und zwar nicht nur im 1. Brutjahr, sondern auch über alle Lebenszeit-Brutjahre (lifetime reproduction). Zwischen Brutenzahl und Wiederfangrate der im jeweils nächsten Jahr besteht eine gesichert positive Beziehung. Dies dürfte auf im Duchschnitt bessere Qualität der mit Zweitbruten zurückzuführen sein. Die Ergebnisse stimmen nicht mit der cost of reproduction hypothesis überein.
Costs and benefits of second broods in Coal Tits (Parus ater)
We compared the reproductive output, local recruitment rates and survival rates of 1 year old Coal Tit females breeding only once (group 1) with the corresponding values of 1 year old females breeding twice (group 2). One year old females which failed first or second broods were excluded. Survival was estimated by the local recovery rate of females during the next breeding season. Our data do not fit with the cost of reproduction hypothesis as females with significantly higher reproductive output and recruitment (group 2) did not show lower survival. We even found a significantly positive correlation between production of a second brood and recovery rate the next year.

Summary -Fructofuranosidase was immobilized by alginate gel at high efficiency (92 %). Synopsis The activity pattern of NAD/NADP-linked 11-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (HSD) in the submandibular gland of the rat was re-evaluated using several control experiments. The incubation time needed for the initial appearance of red and blue formazans was used to investigate the activity of NAD-dependent 11-HSD in control and cortisol-treated rats. The following results were obtained. (1) Prefixation of small tissue blocks with 1% w/v methanol-free formaldehyde (pH 7.2) for up to 20 min preserved morphological integrity and maximal enzyme activity. The substantivity of formazans was enhanced. (2) The substantivity of Nitro BT was highly variable. The implication of this forin situ localization of enzymes was analysed. (3) Pretreatment with acetone and application of phenanthroline was necessary to avoid a false positive reaction caused by alcohol dehydrogenase. (4) No diffusion of 11-HSD was noticed within 30 min of incubation, nor was rediffusion of reduced intermediates seen. (5) With either NAD or NADP as coenzyme, 11-HSD was localized in the striated, intralobular, interlobular, interlobar, and main duct. (6) 11-HSD was found to be primarily NAD-dependent. (7) With DMF or DMSO as solvent, the rate of utilization of substrates was as follows: Cortisol=11-hydroxyandrostendione>11-hydroxyprogesterone. Aldosterone was utilized very poorly, if at all. (8) After injection (i.p.) of a single pharmacological dose of cortisol, the activity of NAD-linked 11-HSD was significantly increased 24 h later. (9) NADH-tetrazolium reductase was not inhibited by levamisole. (10) Distinct NADPH-tetrazolium reductase activity was localized in the apical part of cells (or cell membranes) of the interlobar ducts and the main duct.  相似文献

Summary Secretory activities of bicellular microhairs from grasses belonging to the subfamilies Chloridoideae, Arundinoideae, Panicoideae, and Bambusoideae, and including the chloridoid, panicoid and Enneapogon microhair morphological types, have been investigated. Light microscopic histochemistry indicated that all microhairs studied secrete polysaccharide and protein (or glycoprotein), including those which also secrete salt. Summary The effect of several parameters (temperature; pH; main carbon source; time and amount of -sitosterol addition; Tween 20, 40, 60, 80; Span 20; pluronic F 68, L 64) on the conversion of -sitosterol to 3-(5-hydroxy-7a-methyl-1-oxo-3a-H-hexahydroindan-4-yl) propionic acid (I) by Nocardia sp. M. 29–40 was investigated. A maximal theoretical yield of 65 mol% I (with respect to substrate added) could be achieved during cultivation at pH 8.0 in presence of 6 g/l Tween 40 or Tween 60. Tween 40 and Tween 60 stimulate -sitosterol cooxidation not by improving the substrate suspension but by providing a fatty acid component as precursor for biosynthesis of surface active cell wall lipids.In memory of Professor David Perlmann  相似文献

Zusammenfassung Uferschwalben kehren aus den afrikanischen Winterquartieren in Trupps beiderlei Geschlechts zurück. Erste Beringungsergebnisse belegen, daß zunächst mehrjährige, vermutlich untereinander bekannte Vögel eintreffen, die den Brutplatz aus vergangenen Brutperioden her kennen. Die Masse der später ankommenden Vögel dürfte weitgehend aus einjährigen oder ortsfremden Uferschwalben bestehen, die sich größtenteils erst während der Paarbildung persönlich kennenlernen. Der anfängliche Schwarmzusammenhalt der nacheinander eintreffenden Trupps führt zur Bildung von Subkolonien, die für Brutplätze ab einer bestimmten Größenordnung typisch sind. Uferschwalben- gründen nacheinander mehrere Reviere, d. h. sie besetzen Steilwandbereiche, in denen sie ausschließlich mit den Füßen eine Röhre oder Mulde graben, singen und Bogenflüge starten. Bis auf singende oder bekannte werden Artgenossen im Revier geduldet. Uferschwalben- suchen besetzte Reviere auf. Ohne Röhrenbindung verhalten sie sich still und unauffällig, ihre Grabungsaktivitäten sind von untergeordneter Bedeutung. Die Bindung an ein bestimmtes Revier entwickelt sich individuell verschieden und entscheidet über den Abschluß des Röhrenbaues (Herstellung der Nistkammer). Reviere ohne dauerhafte -Bindung werden von den aufgegeben. Aktivitäten, die auf wachsende Revierbindung eines hindeuten, sind: häufige oder/und länger dauernde Aufenthalte des in einem besetzten Revier und sporadisches Mitgraben; aggressives Verhalten gegenüber Artgenossen (i. d. R. fremde ), die im Revier landen wollen; gemeinschaftlicher, leiser Gesang von und im Röhrenbereich. Aktivitäten, die für eine vollzogene Paarbildung sprechen, sind: Fertigstellen der Röhre durch Grabung der Nestkammer; längere gemeinsame Aufenthalte innerhalb und außerhalb der Röhre; Voranfliegen des beim Röhrenanflug; Übernachten von und in der Röhre; Nestbau; ausdauernde Verfolgungsflüge während der Kopulationsphase. Die Paarbildung ist demnach ein individueller Prozeß, bei dem die Aktivitäten der im Revier als Werbung, die der als Revierwahl interpretiert werden.
On pair-formation in the Sand Martin,Riparia riparia
Summary European Sand Martins arrive at their breeding sites in flocks of usually unmated and . Ringing results of a large population in NW-Germany and own observations indicate that the first flocks about a dozen individuals with an approximately balanced sex ratio appear at traditional breeding places and consist of older, experienced resident birds (presumably acquainted with one another). The birds arriving over the next several weeks are mainly first-year or non-resident individuals. The flocks arrive separately in areas with suitable sandcliffs, synchronize the pair-formation activities and avoid disturbances among paired and unpaired birds. This behaviour causes the formation of subcolonies, which are typical for all densely occupied breeding places. Each settles on a fixed area on the sandcliff (territory) in order to excavate a burrow, to sing the territory-song (fig. 2 b) and to perfor the territory-circle-flight (fig. 2 c, 4 a). Silent birds (normally ) are welcomed or tolerated by the resident . The sexes are monomorphic and therefore courtship displays of the are non-aggressive until establishment of pair-bonds. Only intruding singing or individually known neighbouring are driven away, usually at early stages of territory occupation. Unmated are normally shy and very sensitive to protracted disturbances. visit several occupied territories of the colony (fig. 1–3) in order to choose a burrow. leave territories which do not attract a . A partially purified preparation of 1,3-fucosyltransferase(s) from human milk was used to [14C]fucosylate oligosac-charides containing Gal1-4GlcNAc units. Substitution ofN-acetyllactosamine at position 3 with a -linkedN-acetylglucosamine enhanced the reactivity of the acceptor, whereas similar substitution at position 6 was inhibitory. Thus, the trisaccharide GlcNAcl-6Gal1-4GlcNAc (5), the branched tetrasaccharide GlcNAc1-3(GlcNAc1-6)Gal1-4GlcNAc (11) and the triply branched decasaccharide GlcNAc1-3(GlcNAc1-6)Gall-4GlcNAc1-3[GlcNAc1-3(GlcNAc1-6)Gal1-4GlcNAc1-6]Gal1-4GlcNAc (26) gave remarkably poor yields of 1,3-fucosylated products in comparison to GlcNAc1-3Gal1-4GlcNAc (3). 1,4-Galactosyl derivatives of5 and11, however, gave good yields of 1,3-fucosylated products, but the fucosylation was restricted to the distalN-acetyllactosamine units of Gal1-4GlcNAc1-6Gal1-4GlcNAc (16), Gal1-4GlcNAc1-3(Gal1-4GlcNAc1-6)Gal1-4GlcNAc (18) and also in Gal1-3Gal1-4GlcNAc1-3(Gal1-3Gal1-4GlcNAc1-6)Gal1-4GlcNAc (22). Immobilized wheat germ agglutinin (WGA), possessing high affinity for16 [1], revealed no affinity for the fucosylated derivative Gal1-4(Fuc1-3)GlcNAc1-6Gal1-4GlcNAc (17). The isomeric heptasaccharides Gal1-4(Fuc1-3)GlcNAc1-3(Gal1-4GlcNAc1-6)Gal1-4GlcNAc (19) and Gal1-4GlcNAc1-3[Gal1-4(Fuc1-3)GlcNAc1-6]Gal1-4GlcNAc (20) were readily separated from each other on WGA-agarose, and so were the isomeric nonasaccharides Gal1-3Gal1-4(Fuc1-3)GlcNAc1-3(Gal1-3Gal1-4GlcNAc1-6)Gal1-4GlcNAc (23) and Gal1-3Gal1-4GlcNAc1-3[Gal1-3Gal1-4(Fuc1-3)GlcNAc1-6]Gal1-4GlcNAc (24).  相似文献

How accurate international nutritional standards are for recommending and assessing adequate nutrient intake and nutritional status of different national populations has been debated by nutritionists, economists, and others. This paper reviews the assumptions and possible motivations behind the design and interpretation of standards in particular countries, with a special emphasis on India and Mexico.
