In 1980 a long-term study of the fishery resources of the San Francisco Bay estuary was initiated in an effort to delineate the importance of freshwater inflow to fish and invertebrate abundance and distribution in the bay. An analysis of the trawl data collected between January 1980 and December 1982 illustrates the influence of the timing and magnitude of freshwater inflows on fish fistribution and abundance in this estuary from the perspective of monthly, seasonal and annual time scales. Normally found in the delta, Suisun Bay and San Pablo Bay during periods of increased salinity, pelagic species moved downstream after the two peak flows studied, while demersal species usually found in Central San Francisco Bay moved upstream. Such upstream movements may be due in part to transport by strong density-driven currents.Timing and magnitude of monthly catches of some species varied on a seasonal cycle coincident with variations of freshwater inflow. Most species, especially the marine species, showed no consistent cycle of monthly catches. In the wet years of 1980 and 1982 the distributions of freshwater, estuarine and anadromous species were extended downstream into San Pablo, Central and South San Francisco Bays and some marine species, including the flatfish, were more abundant in the upstream areas. In the dry year of 1981 when bay salinities were higher, few marine species extended their distributions upstream into San Pablo and Suisun Bays. Jacksmelt was the only fish of the 15 most abundant species with its peak abundance in 1981. Most marine species were more abundant in the San Francisco Bay estuary in the wet years.  相似文献

Seasonal succession of the phytoplankton was followed weeklyin the eastern and western parts of the Oosterschelde estuary,before (1982–1983) and during (1984–1986) the constructionof the storm-surge barrier. Construction of the barrier seriouslyinfluenced the hydrodynamics of the estuary. In the easternpart, decreased current velocities led to the emergence of avertical salinity gradient, to an increasing sedimentation ofsuspended matter and to a rise in transparency during a prolongedperiod of the year. The relationship between species compositionand biomass on the one hand and environmental variables on theother hand, was analysed in a Canonical Correspondence Analysis,for both compartments separately. The analysis revealed thatthe phytoplankton assemblage more and more obtained a summercharacter, extending its growth season both earlier and laterin the year. The transition of spring to summer phytoplanktonassemblages proceeded parallel to the main light-turbidity gradient.The factor light did not only explain the seasonal pattern,but also the long-term trend from pre-barrier to barrier period.Partial Detrended Correspondence Analysis after correction forthe mean seasonal pattern confirmed this trend significantly.  相似文献

鼎湖山针阔叶混交林水文学过程中总有机碳动态   总被引:2,自引:1,他引:1  
2002年7月~2003年7月对鼎湖山针阔叶混交林生态系统水文学过程中总有机碳(TOC)总量和浓度进行了初步研究.结果表明,观测期间,林外大气降水输入的TOC总量为41.80kg·hm-2·yr-1,地表径流和地下水(50 cm土壤渗透水)输出分别为17.54和1.80kg·hm-2·yr-1,输入输出之差为22.4kg·hm-2·yr-1,系统TOC为正平衡.各类型水中TOC总量月动态基本上与大气降水月动态变化趋势一致.大气降水的TOC平均浓度为3.4 mg·L-1.经过森林林冠淋洗和树干淋溶后,穿透雨和树干流中TOC的平均浓度分别比大气降水中TOC浓度增加了.10倍和7.39倍.地表径流、25 cm和50 cm土壤渗透水中TOC平均浓度分别为12.72、7.905和3.0 mg·L-1.穿透雨和树干流中TOC浓度的月变化相似,生长季初(3月),TOC浓度开始增加,9月后逐渐下降,12月又有所回升.降水量较大的月份地表径流中TOC浓度较高.25 cm和50 cm土壤渗透水中TOC浓度无明显的月变化规律.不同树种树干流中TOC浓度差异很大.大气降水、穿透雨、25 cm和50 cm土壤水中TOC浓度随降水量的增加而规律性递减,树干流和地表径流中TOC浓度与大气降水量之间无明显相关关系;除树干流和土壤水外,水文过程各分量水中TOC浓度随着大气降水强度的变化呈现规律性波动.  相似文献

The Great Ouse estuary in southern England is a macrotidal estuary with rather coarse sediment. Two intertidal sites were sampled five times over the year at low tide. The sediments are suboxic, organic poor (approximately 1.5% organic carbon). They are composed mainly of detrital quartz and feldspar with some calcite. At both sites the total phosphorus in the sediments ranges from 0.03 – 0.12% dry weight and total iron from 0.42–1.22% dry weight. Of the total phosphorus 20% is organic and 80% is inorganic of which 10% is water extractable. Total iron and phosphorus correlate well and the ratio of iron:phosphorus is 8.4 which is similar to that found when phosphorus is adsorbed by iron oxyhydroxides, suggesting that iron oxyhydroxides are an important substrate for phosphorus sorption in these sediments. Fluxes of phosphorus from the sediment to the overlying water, measured in cores incubated in the laboratory, are low and show no seasonality. The sodium concentration in the porewaters at both sites is variable suggesting that there is movement of water through the sediment to depths of at least 20 cm. This is borne out by variable phosphorus, iron and phosphorus concentrations in the porewaters and ill defined redox zones in the sediments.  相似文献

The main aim of this study was to compare the genotoxic potential of organic extracts from urban air particles collected in three different sampling periods in the center of Prague (Czech Republic). For this purpose, we analyzed the DNA adduct forming activity of extractable organic matter (EOM) from urban air particles <10 microm (PM10) in the human hepatoma cell line HepG2. DNA adducts were analyzed by (32)P-postlabelling with nuclease P1 enrichment. PM10 concentrations were 36.9 microg/m(3), 62.6mug/m(3) and 39.0 microg/m(3), in summer 2000, winter 2001 and winter 2005, respectively. The corresponding EOM contents were 5.0 microg/m(3) (13.9% of PM10), 14.9 microg/m(3) (23.8%) and 6.7 microg/m(3) (17.2%). The total DNA adduct levels induced by 10 microg EOM/ml were 4.7, 19.5 and 37.2 adducts/10(8) nucleotides in summer 2000, winter 2001 and winter 2005, respectively. However, when the EOM quantities per cubic meter of air were taken into consideration, the summer sample exhibited a 10-fold lower genotoxicity than did those of winter, while the difference between the winter samples was not significant: 23.4 in summer 2000, 291 in winter 2001 and 249 in winter 2005 (in relative units). Although the PM10 concentration in air and the EOM content in particles in winter 2005 were significantly lower than in winter 2001, the genotoxic potential of the ambient air in these samples was almost equal. There were significant positive correlations between the B[a]P and c-PAH content in EOM from various sampling periods and the total DNA adduct levels detected in the EOM-treated samples. These findings support the hypothesis that the B[a]P and c-PAH content in EOM is the most important factor that determines its genotoxic potential. Thus, estimating the genotoxic potential of the ambient air and predicting health risk should be based mainly on the c-PAH concentration and the biological activity of the extracts, while the mass of particles and the EOM content do not seem to be crucial determinants of ambient air genotoxicity.  相似文献

Five species of Saprolegnia have been isolated from the water samples obtained monthly from Shatt Al-Arab estuary from September, 1976 to August, 1977. These are S. ferax, S. anisospora, S. diclina, S. terrestris and S. parasitica. Out of 81 isolates 43 reached sexual maturity while 38 remained sterile. The genotoxicity of extractable organic matter (EOM) from airborne particles in Shanghai has been determined using short-term bioassays. EOM samples were investigated using cell morphological transformation and two-stage model of mouse skin tumorigenicity assays to detect their carcinogenic activity. DNA adducts were detected using the 32P-postlabeling technique. The results showed that EOMs induced cell morphological transformation and played a role in tumor-initiating carcinogenesis. The EOMs of airborne particles from different districts of Shanghai had similar carcinogenic activity except the result of sample E (at downtown of Shanghai) was relatively high. The polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) fraction makes a major contribution to carcinogenic activity according to the results of cell morphological transformation assay. DNA adducts were also detected in skin, liver, and kidney of mouse after treatment with EOMs. It is suggested that the urban airborne particles in Shanghai, which show carcinogenic potential and genotoxic activity in our bioassays, may be responsible for the increased incidence of lung cancer in Shanghai in last few years.  相似文献

The behaviour of copper and zinc in the Scheldt estuary, both in the particulate and the dissolved phase, is discussed for the period 1982–1983. The longitudinal particulate copper and zinc profiles fall below the dilution line, which is attributed to mixing and mobilization processes. In the dissolved phase both metals show a production region in the end member of the estuary, for copper a pronounced mid estuarine maximum is observed. Study of the metal speciation suggested that organic ligands might keep heavy metals in solution, especially in area of intensive production, and promote the subsequent export of these metals downstream the estuary.  相似文献

Temporal and spatial patterns of abundance of the flatfish community in the Mondego estuary were investigated from 2003 to 2007, based on monthly beam trawl samples. During the study period there was a severe drought, with consequential reductions in river runoff. A total of eight flatfish species occurred within the estuary, with seasonal specific richness and abundance varying considerably. It was possible to identify three main groups: one composed of species present throughout the study period and in high densities: Platichthys flesus and Solea solea (maximum densities 3.7 and 4.1 Ind 1000 m?2, respectively); a second group of less abundant but regularly present species: Scophthalmus rhombus and Solea senegalensis (maximum densities 0.2 and 0.3 Ind 1000 m?2, respectively); and a third group of occasional species that occurred only during the drought period: Arnoglossus laterna, Buglossidium luteum, Dicologlossa hexophthalma and Pegusa lascaris. Flatfish distribution patterns varied according to the estuarine use guild: marine‐estuarine dependent fish occurred mainly in the upper reaches, while marine stragglers and marine‐estuarine opportunists occurred mostly in the downstream areas. Species with more northern latitudinal affinities were the most affected by the drought, related with a lesser extent of river plumes to the coastal area, resulting in a reduction in half of the abundance levels. However, flatfish species with more southern affinities increased in abundance during the drought, benefiting also from an increase in estuarine water temperature. Early summer salinity and precipitation values were good proxies for estimating abundance levels of P. flesus and S. solea, respectively, emphasizing the importance of hydrodynamics for the recruitment and abundance of these commercially important species.  相似文献

In Arctic regions, glaciers are major sources of iron to rivers and streams; however, estuaries are considered iron sinks due to the coagulation and flocculation processes that occur at higher salinities. It is unknown how iron dynamics in a glacial influenced river and estuary environment affect microbial mechanisms for iron acquisition. Microbial taxonomic and functional sequencing was performed on samples taken throughout the year from the Kenai River and the estuary, Alaska. Despite distinct iron, sodium, and other nutrient concentrations, the river and estuary did not have statistically different microbial communities nor was time of sampling significant. However, ferrous iron transport (Feo) system genes were more abundant in river environments, while siderophore genes were more abundant and diverse in estuary environments. Siderophore transport and iron storage genes were found in all samples, but gene abundance and distribution were potentially influenced by physical drivers such as discharge rates and nutrient distributions. Differences in iron metabolism between river and estuary ecosystems indicate environmental conditions drive microbial mechanisms to sequester iron. This could have implications for iron transport as the Arctic continues to warm.  相似文献

Heat shock proteins (hsp) are a highly conserved group of proteins that are synthesized as a response to different forms of stress (heat, toxic chemicals, diseases, non-physiological pH changes). Because of their high sensitivity to changes in the environment, these proteins were suggested as possible early biomarkers of exposure in ecotoxicological studies. The purpose of the present study was to check the suitability of hsp32 and hsp70 as biomarkers of in vitro exposure to environmentally relevant carcinogens: polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), their nitro-derivates, aromatic amines, acrylonitrile (ACN) and the mixture of organic compounds adsorbed onto ambient airborne particles (extractable organic matter, EOM).The expression of hsp32 and hsp70 was studied in human diploid lung fibroblasts (HEL cells) and human monocytic leukaemia cells (THP-1 cells) incubated in vitro with different concentrations of dibenzo[a,l]pyrene (DB[a,l]P), 1-nitropyrene, (NP), 4-aminobiphenyl (ABP), ACN and EOM for different periods of time. The incubation of cells with DB[a,l]P, NP, ABP and EOM did not result in increased levels of hsp32 or hsp70, either in dose- or time-dependent manner. ACN induced the expression of hsp32 as well as hsp70 in HEL and THP-1 cells, which probably reflects its ability to induce oxidative stress. We conclude that hsp32 and hsp70 are not suitable biomarkers of an early exposure to PAHs, their nitro-derivates, aromatic amines or EOM under the conditions used.  相似文献

The benthic and demersal fishes of the lower Forth Estuary, east Scotland, were sampled by Agassiz trawling from January 1982–December 2001. Three stations of varying distance from the mouth of the estuary were trawled at high and low water in 5 months of each year, a total of 30 trawls per annum using the same ship and net design throughout. Of 30 species collected over this period, whiting Merlangius merlangus was the most abundant, followed by eelpout Zoarces viviparus , pogge Agonus cataphractus , flounder Platichthys flesus and plaice Pleuronectes platessa . The 10 most abundant species accounted for 97·8% of the total benthic-demersal fish abundance. There was no trend in total annual species richness sampled, though total annual abundance of fishes captured decreased significantly from 1982–2001. This was largely caused by significant declines in abundance of whiting and eelpout. Fatherlasher Myoxocephalus scorpius showed a significant linear increase. None of the seven remaining most abundant species exhibited significant trends in abundance. Decline of eelpout may be attributable to increases in water temperature adversely affecting reproductive success. This is suggested by a significant negative correlation of mean annual abundance with January bottom temperature in the previous year.  相似文献

Temporal and spatial variability of the Abra alba–Pectinaria koreni and Macoma balthica communities was examined in the northern part of the Seine estuary (North Channel) over different space and time scales in order to assess the role that the hydrologic regime and/or anthropogenic influences play in defining benthic communities over time. Sediment in the North Channel displayed strong spatial and temporal variability, sustained by intense sediment transport episodes. Total macrobenthic abundances ranged widely on the course of the year and there was no evidence of a seasonal signal for the density fluctuations, whatever the spatial scale considered. The bio-sedimentary dynamics can be divided into two periods: the first corresponds to the high flow rate period (January–May) during which fauna is influenced by fine silt/clay deposition, and the second to the low flow rate period (June–December) during which sandy deposits prevail. Despite the absence of significant correlations between sediment composition and abundance, episodes of sediment transport seem to be an important structuring mechanism in the Seine estuary. As a consequence, the faunal composition varied throughout the year. The winter and spring fauna, characterised by species living on muddy fine-sands or muds, were enriched during the summer and autumn by species living in clean fine sand, such as Donax vittatus, Nephtys cirrosa or Spio decoratus, mainly represented by adult individuals. Secondary settlement of drifters may explain the rapid structuration of assemblages a few days after the sandy deposits. Our results suggest the importance of the bentho-pelagic coupling, primarily induced by the sedimentary instability, on the macrobenthic fauna dynamics. The intra-annual variability of assemblages at the mouth of the Seine river and the silted situation of the North Channel might simply be the result of the silting up and alteration of the inner estuary, generated by several decades of man-made modifications and natural processes.  相似文献

The population demographics of the caridean shrimp Palaemon peringueyi was investigated monthly at four sites over a period of one year in the small, intermittently-open Grants River Estuary situated on the south-east coastline of southern Africa. Mean total abundance and biomass of P. peringueyi ranged between 0 and 23.2 ind m?2 and 0 and 2.3mg wwt m?2, respectively. A peak in its abundance coincided with a breaching event that occurred in December 2004, and could be attributed to the mass recruitment of juveniles (carapace length <9mm) into the estuary. Minor peaks in abundance were also associated with marine waters overtopping the sandbar that separates the estuary from the marine environment. The highest biomass values were recorded when the estuary was separated from the sea. Maximum abundance and biomass values of P. peringueyi were generally recorded in the middle reaches of the estuary where extensive beds of submerged vegetation, mainly Potamogeton pectinatus, predominated. Pearson correlation analysis indicated that the total abundance of P. peringueyi was significantly correlated (r = 0.49; p < 0.05) to percentage cover of submerged vegetation. The spatial pattern in abundance and biomass values of the shrimp is thought to reflect the availability of refuge areas against predation. A distinct spatial pattern in the community structure of the shrimp was evident, with juveniles numerically dominating the samples in the lower reaches of the estuary, while mature females predominated in the upper reaches of the system. Sensitivity and correlations among three endpoints were evaluated to assess the genotoxic potential of organic complex mixtures in vitro. This study was focused on DNA adduct formation, DNA single strand break induction and tumour suppressor p53 protein up-regulation produced by extractable organic matter (EOM) absorbed on respirable particulate matter PM10 (particulate matter < 10 μm) collected in three European cities (Prague, Sofia, Košice) during winter and summer period. To compare the sensitivity of particular endpoints for in vitro measurement of complex mixture genotoxicity, the metabolically competent human hepatoma cell line Hep G2 was treated with equivalent EOM concentration of 50 μg/ml. Cell exposure to EOMs resulted in significant DNA adduct formation and DNA strand break induction, however, a lack of protein p53 up-regulation over the steady-state level was found. While the maximum of DNA strand breaks was determined after 2 h cell exposure to EOMs, 24 h treatment interval was optimal for DNA adduct determination.

No substantial location- and season-related differences in EOM genotoxicity were detected using DNA strand break assessment. In agreement with these results no significant variation in DNA adduct levels were found in relation to the locality and season except for the monitoring site in Prague. The Prague EOM sample collected during summer period produced nearly three-fold lower DNA adduct level in comparison to the winter EOM sample.

Comparable results were obtained when the ambient air genotoxicity, based on the concentration of carcinogenic PAHs in cubic meter of air (ng c-PAHs/m3), was elicited using either DNA adduct or strand break determination. In general, at least six-fold higher genotoxicity of the winter air in comparison to the summer air was estimated by each particular endpoint. Moreover, the genotoxic potential of winter air revealed by DNA adduct assessment and DNA strand break measurement increased in the same order: Košice  Prague < Sofia.

Based on these data we suppose that two endpoints DNA breakage and DNA adduction are sensitive in vitro biomarkers for estimation of genotoxic activity of organic complex mixture associated with airborne particles. On the other hand, the measurement of protein p53 up-regulation manifested some limitations; therefore it cannot be used as a reliable endpoint for in vitro genotoxicity assessment.  相似文献

The intertidal and subtidal soft-sediment macrofauna of the upper Forth estuary, eastern Scotland, UK has been examined. The intertidal fauna was sampled in 1977, and again in 1988/89, at up to twelve stations along the salinity gradient. The subtidal fauna was sampled in 1982 and in 1988/89 at up to 15 stations. The stations span the region of the freshwater-seawater interface, and area of the turbidity maximum. Large spatial and temporal variations in macrofaunal abundance and species composition were observed. Sites at the head of the estuary with low salinity were dominated by oligochaetes, but more saline areas were characterised by a depauparate estuarine fauna. The area has historically received large quantities of organic waste both from sewage and industrial discharges which supported very high abundances of oligochaetes of up to 500,000 m−2 in the upper reaches of the estuary. Reductions in the organic inflow to the area since the early-1980's have begun to cause reductions in oligochaete populations and also allowed the further penetration intertidally of non-oligochaete species into the upper and middle reaches of the estuary. No comparable upstream penetration by the non-oligochaete subtidal fauna has been observed, possibly on account of the greater sediment instability in the estuary's main channel.  相似文献

风蚀和水蚀是黄土高原风蚀水蚀交错区土壤侵蚀的主要方式,研究风水交错侵蚀对土壤颗粒的影响对于准确评价该区土壤质量及环境影响有重要意义.本文采用风洞与模拟降雨试验相结合的方法,分析了风水交错侵蚀条件下侵蚀泥沙颗粒变化特征.结果表明: 在11、14 m·s-1风速的风蚀下,坡面表层(0~1 cm)土壤颗粒粗化.其中,细颗粒(<0.01 mm)减小9.8%~10.8%,粗颗粒(>0.05 mm)增加16.8%~20.8%.风蚀改变了坡面物理性状,进而影响了降雨侵蚀泥沙颗粒变化.相对于未风蚀,风蚀处理的侵蚀泥沙细颗粒增加2.7%~189%,粗颗粒降低3.7%~9.3%.风蚀处理后,在不同雨强、不同降雨历时下,侵蚀泥沙颗粒变化趋势不同.雨强60、80、100 mm·h-1时,侵蚀泥沙颗粒变化较大,而雨强150 mm·h-1、产流>15 min时,变化趋势减缓.

从2007年11月至2009年10月, 对华西雨屏区苦竹(Pleioblastus amarus)人工林进行了模拟氮(N)沉降试验, N沉降水平分别为对照(CK, 0 g N·m-2·a-1)、低N (5 g N·m-2·a-1)、中N (15 g N·m-2·a-1)和高N (30 g N·m-2·a-1)。在N沉降进行1年后, 每月采集各样方0-20 cm的土壤样品, 连续采集12个月, 测定其土壤总有机C、微生物生物量C、浸提性溶解有机C、活性C、全N、微生物生物量N、NH4+-N、NO3--N、有效P和速效K。结果表明: N沉降显著增加了土壤总有机C、微生物生物量C、全N、微生物生物量N、NH4+-N和有效P含量, 对其余几个指标无显著影响。土壤微生物生物量C和微生物生物量N的季节变化明显, 并与气温极显著正相关。土壤有效P、速效K与微生物生物量C、微生物生物量N呈极显著负相关关系。N沉降提高了土壤中C、N、P元素的活性, 并通过微生物的转化固定作用使得C、N、P元素在土壤中的含量增加。苦竹林生态系统处于N限制状态, 土壤有机C和养分对N沉降呈正响应, N沉降的增加可能会提高土壤肥力并促进植被的生长, 进而促进生态系统对C的固定。  相似文献

The genotoxic potential of extractable organic matter (EOM) associated with the respirable particulate matter (PM <10 microm) of atmospheric pollution has been determined in three European cities--Prague (Czech Republic, two monitoring sites, Libus and Smíchov), Kosice (Slovak Republic) and Sofia (Bulgaria) using the alkaline single-cell gel electrophoresis (the comet assay). The EOM samples were extracted by dichloromethane from ambient airborne particles collected daily (24 h intervals) during 3-month sampling periods in winter and summer seasons. The human metabolically competent cell line Hep G2 was used as a test system and benzo[a]pyrene (BaP), a known carcinogen, was applied as a positive control (internal standard) in each electrophoretic run. Two-hour exposure of Hep G2 cells to equivalent EOM concentrations ranging from 5 to 150 microg EOM/ml resulted in a linear dose-dependent increase of DNA migration (r > 0.9, P < 0.01). A less significant dose-response (r = 0.61) was only induced by the EOM sample from the locality Prague-Libus (PRG-LB) in the winter. Generally, a 1.5 to four-fold increase of DNA strand breaks over the background control level was determined in EOM-exposed cells. In order to compare the genotoxic potential of individual EOMs, a mathematical model was used to correct the 'real' data. No substantial location- or season-related differences were found in EOM genotoxicity (EOM microg/ml), except for the EOM sample from Sofia, collected in the summer. This EOM sample induced a nearly two-fold lower level of DNA damage in comparison with other EOMs. On the other hand, clear statistically significant location- and season-related differences (P < 0.001) in ambient air genotoxicity were determined when the EOM quantity per cubic meter of air (microg/m3) was taken into account. In that case, the genotoxicity of winter air pollution was six- to 10-fold higher in comparison with summer air. The air pollution genotoxicity in individual localities rose during the winter season in the order: PRG-LB < Kosice < Prague-Smíchov (PRG-SM) < Sofia, while during the summer season the highest ambient air genotoxicity was revealed in the locality Prague-Smíchov and approximately equal air pollution genotoxicity was determined among localities Prague-Libus, Kosice and Sofia (PRG-LB approximately Kosice approximately Sofia < PRG-SM). The greatest overall air pollution genotoxicity was determined in the locality Sofia during the winter season. In a time course study to evaluate the kinetics of DNA strand break rejoining it was shown that the level of DNA strand breaks in EOM-exposed cells has returned to near the background level within 24 h after the treatment.  相似文献
