The species composition and distribution of testate amoebae in Bau Sen and Bau Trang lakes (Binh Thuan Province, Vietnam) were investigated. Fifty-three species, varieties and forms have been identified from the water column and sediments. Twenty-seven species, varieties and forms from the genera Arcella, Centropyxis, Cyclopyxis, Difflugia and Pyxidicula were found in Vietnam for the first time. The updated list of testate amoebae in Vietnam now includes 286 taxa. The genera Arcella, Centropyxis and Difflugia are characterized by the highest frequency of occurrence. The species diversity of Arcella, Centropyxis, Difflugia was the highest. Centropyxis aculeata, Arcella discoides, Difflugia schurmanni, Netzelia oviformis and Difflugia limnetica were the most common species. Many species have shown restricted distribution, some species have been found only in one lake and not been found in another lake. The number of observed species, varieties, and forms in each lake is 34. The average number of the species per sample on the shores of the lakes subjected to human agricultural activity was significantly higher than in the samples from the shores of the lakes with less anthropogenic disturbance. The curves of “cumulative species number vs. sampling effort” are well fitted by equations S = 7.60 N 0.69 for Bau Sen lake and S = 12.52 N 0.46 for Bau Trang. The curves are unsaturated, which indicates that more intensive investigations of testate amoebae should be expected to reveal more species.  相似文献

The species composition and community structure of soil-inhabiting testate amoebae communities have been studied in biotopes of different types in the southern tundra and forest-tundra of the Tazovskaya Lowland, Western Siberia. A total of 93 species and forms have been identified. It has been found that the species richness of testate amoebae is much lower in dry than in moist biotopes due to a lower level of beta-diversity, with alpha diversity being the same (on average, 16.9 and 17.1 species per sample, respectively). Factors acting at the microbiotope level (biotope type and moisture) play the most important role in the formation of species richness; biotope features (soils and vegetation) are second in importance. In moist habitats, local communities of testate amoebae from different microbiotopes (mosses, lichens, or litter) are fairly similar in species structure, and communities from different moist biotopes are heterogeneous. In dry areas, the opposite situation is observed: local communities differ at the microbiotope level but are similar at the biotope level. The abundance of testate amoebae in moist biotopes reaches 200 × 103 ind./g dry soil, being an order of magnitude lower in dry biotopes.  相似文献

The species composition and diversity of insect assemblages in the grass–shrub cover has been studied. A total of 374 species from 10 orders have been revealed. Coleoptera, Diptera, Heteroptera, and Auchenorryncha prevailed. Each order was dominated by two to eight species. These species are Cixius similis Kirschbaum, 1868; Neophilaenus lineatus (Linnaeus, 1758); Lepyronia coleoptrata (Linnaeus, 1758) (Auchenorryncha); Lygus pratensis (Linnaeus, 1758); Kleidocerys resedae (Panzer, 1797); Stictopleurus crassicornis (Linnaeus, 1758) (Heteroptera); Lochmaea suturalis (Thomson, 1866); Cyphon padi (Linnaeus, 1758); Plateumaris discolor (Herbst, 1795) (Coleoptera); etc. The assemblages were characterized by low species diversity and distribution of species abundance. The most similar entomocomplexes were those in biotopes dominated by herbs, on the one hand, and dwarf shrubs, on the other. The regression analysis has shown a significant relation between the species richness and diversity of insects and the species composition of plants and their projective cover. The multivariate analysis with various methods (CCA and PCA) demonstrated the influence of these factors on the spatial distribution of certain species and their preferences to particular habitats.  相似文献

We investigated multivariate relationships among snowmelt, soil physicochemical properties and the distribution patterns of Arctic tundra vegetation. Seven dominant species were placed in three groups (Veg-1, 2, 3) based on niche overlap (Pianka’s Index) and ordination method, and a partial least squares path model was applied to estimate complex multivariate relationships of four latent variables on the abundance and richness of plant species. The abundance of Veg-1 (Luzula confusa and Salix polaris) was positively correlated with early snowmelt time, high soil nutrients and dense moss cover, but the abundance of Veg-2 (Saxifraga oppositifolia, Bistorta vivipara and Silene acaulis) was negatively correlated with these three variables. Plant richness was positively associated with early snowmelt and hydrological properties. Our results indicate that the duration of the snowpack can directly influence soil chemical properties and plant distribution. Furthermore, plant species richness was significantly affected by snow melt time in addition to soil moisture and moss cover. We predict that L. confusa and S. polaris may increase in abundance in response to early snowmelt and increased soil moisture-nutrient availability, which may be facilitated by climate change. Other forb species in dry and infertile soil may decrease in abundance in response to climate change, due to increasingly unfavourable environmental conditions and competition with mosses.  相似文献

The fauna of testate amoebae (Testacea) in a Formica lugubris anthill and in litter layers from the control soil area in a spruce forest, Moscow region, was represented by a total of 43 species and subspecies. Their numbers ranged from 11000 ind./g air-dry substrate in the surface layer of the anthill to 62000 ind./g in the lower litter layer A0H/A1, with variation in species diversity between the samples being insignificant (24–30 species). Representatives of the genera Centropyxis, Cyclopyxis, Plagiopyxis, Corythion, and Trinema were dominant, whereas most of other species were few in numbers. The group of testacean species in the anthill was not specific, being a derivative of the testacean complex inhabiting the surrounding soil. Differences between litter layers and between these layers and substrates from the anthill concerned mainly the composition of the testacean community, which proved to change in the course of plant material decomposition: the aerophilic complex of upper layers (dominated by Centropyxis aerophila and Trinema lineare) was substituted by an edaphophilic complex (with Plagiopyxis declivis being dominant) in the nest mound of the anthill and in the lower litter layers. Plagiopyxis penardi was a eudominant species in the nest mound. Its especially high abundance is explained by deep transformation of plant remains in the nest (from moder to mull-like substrate) as the result of ant life activities.  相似文献

The population of earthworms has been studied in the main types of old-growth dark coniferous forests of Pechora-Ilych Nature Reserve (Komi Republic) that have not been subject to anthropogeniс impact for a long time. Ten species of earthworms have been identified. The greatest diversity (7 species), abundance, and biomass of earthworms has been revealed in the tall-grass fir–spruce forests. P. diplotetratheca had the greatest abundance. E. nordenskioldi nordenskioldi and E. atlavinyteae had the greatest biomass. The lowest species diversity (3 species), abundance, and biomass of earthworms have been found in the largefern, blueberry–green moss, and sphagnum–horsetail fir–spruce forests. The role of deadwood in maintaining the species diversity of Lumbricidae in dark coniferous forests has been demonstrated. The complexes of Lumbricidae have been considered in anthropogenically disturbed territories, where the following species with a habitat range to the south of the northern and middle taiga have been identified: L. rubellus, A. rosea, A. caliginosa caliginosa, and E. fetida.  相似文献

In the course of five expeditions to the Severnaya Zemlya Archipelago, four beetle species were found: Micralymma brevilingue (Staphylinidae), Chrysolina subsulcata, Ch. septentrionalis (Chrysomelidae), and Dienerella filum (Latridiidae). The zonal plant communities do not contain beetles at all. All the species found prefer intrazonal habitats, where the snowless season is prolonged. Only M. brevilingue is common enough in various biotopes of the archipelago. All the beetle species found are wingless, rather small, polytopic and have vast distribution areas (D. filum is a cosmopolitan polyzonal species, and the others are semi-circumpolar arctic forms). Obviously, M. brevilingue should be considered as the most cold-tolerant beetle species of the Northern Hemisphere. This is the first report on the coleopteran fauna in the polar desert zone.  相似文献

The community structure of testate amoebae inhabiting different microhabitats (soil and tree-moss) within a tropical forest biome in Nameri National Park, northeastern India, was investigated. A total of 33 testate amoebae species belonging to 13 genera were identified. Species belonging to the class Lobosea constituted 73% of total testate amoebae density in the soil habitat, whereas the class Filosea constituted the most dominant forms (58%) in the moist tree-moss habitat. The relative abundance of species was higher in the tree-moss habitat compared to the soil habitats of the forest. Although multivariate analysis suggested a significant difference in assemblage patterns between the habitats, the turnover in species (i.e., beta diversity) was insignificant. Species accumulation curves (SAC) constructed using both parametric and non-parametric species richness estimators revealed that the asymptote of species richness was achieved by a low number of sample replicates in both habitats. The temperature and pH of the substratum on testate amoebae distribution patterns suggest the importance of additional background factors on testate amoebae community structure. Further studies involving more biotopes, seasons, and trophic interactions are recommended to document a complete record of testate amoebae diversity and their interactions with environmental gradients in the tropical forest biomes of northeastern India.  相似文献

Bistorta vivipara is a widespread arctic-alpine ectomycorrhizal (ECM) plant species. Recent findings suggest that fungal communities associated with B. vivipara roots appear random over short distances, but at larger scales, environmental filtering structure fungal communities. Habitats in highly stressful environments where specialist species with narrower niches may have an advantage represent unique opportunity to test the effect of environmental filtering. We utilised high-throughput amplicon sequencing to identify ECM communities associated with B. vivipara in Svalbard. We compared ECM communities in a core habitat where B. vivipara is frequent (Dryas-heath) with edge habitats representing extremes in terms of nutrient availability where B. vivipara is less frequent (bird-manured meadow and a nutrient-depleted mine tilling). Our analysis revealed that soil conditions in edge habitats favour less diverse but more distinct ECM fungal communities with functional traits adapted to local conditions. ECM richness was overall lower in both edge habitats, and the taxonomic compositions of ECM fungi were in line with our functional expectations. Stress-tolerant genera such as Laccaria and Hebeloma were abundant in nutrient-poor mine site whereas functional competitors genera such as Lactarius and Russula were dominant in the nutrient-rich bird-cliff site. Our results suggest that ECM communities in rare edge habitats are most likely not subsets of the larger pool of ECM fungi found in natural tundra, and they may represent a significant contribution to the overall diversity of ECM fungi in the Arctic.  相似文献

Predaceous ladybirds are important natural enemies of many insect pests in terrestrial ecosystems such as peatlands, which are habitats for specialized cold-adapted plants. Ladybird assemblages of pristine peat bogs have not yet been assessed. In total, 15 ladybird species were recorded in peat bog in Belarus by using entomological sweep net. The present study shows low diversity, evenness and species richness of ladybird assemblages. However, a small number of species were present in high numbers. These are Coccinella hieroglyphica, Chilocorus bipustulatus, Coccinulla qutuordecimpustulata and Hippodamia tredecimpunctata. Ladybird abundance was positively related to shrub cover and number of vascular plant species, and negatively related to herb cover. In terms of ladybird diversity, only shrub cover had a significant negative effect.  相似文献

Establishment of Microstegium vimineum, an invasive exotic grass, in closed-canopy U.S. eastern forests was evaluated across a local (roadside to forest interior) and regional (across two geographic provinces) environmental gradient in West Virginia. The two geographic provinces were the Allegheny Plateau (more mesic) and the Ridge and Valley Province (more xeric). Biotic, abiotic, and disturbance variables were measured in (1) systematically located plots, starting from the roadside and extending 50 m into the forests, and (2) randomly selected, forest interior plots, with equal numbers of plots containing or not containing M. vimineum. Associations between the variables and the presence of M. vimineum at both scales were evaluated using generalized linear models. Relative importance of the variables related to M. vimineum establishment in the forest interior plots at the regional scale was determined using logistic regression. Results confirmed Microstegium vimineum’s reduced reproductive capacity in the forest interior compared to the roadside. Patches of M. vimineum in the forest interiors across the regional gradient were best defined by high native plant richness and diversity. Greater canopy opening, more moss, and shallower litter depths were also positively and significantly associated with M. vimineum presence, but only during the driest sample year.  相似文献

On Île de la Possession (Crozet Archipelago, sub-Antarctica), the testate amoebae (Protozoa, Rhizopoda) fauna in soils around abandoned and occupied nests of the wandering albatross (Diomedea exulans) was investigated. A comparison with control samples, a cluster analysis and several ordination techniques indicated that the presence of the breeding albatrosses induced modifications in physico-chemical soil characteristics and in the soil inhabiting testacean fauna. Only 11 testate species occurred frequently in the soils in the albatross’ zone. Soils around occupied nests had significantly higher moisture values, less acid pH values, an increased specific conductance and elevated phosphate and ammonium concentrations. Highly influenced testacean communities were characterised by high abundances of Difflugiella oviformis and extremely high abundances of Trinema lineare, resulting in a very low diversity and evenness within these communities. The intermediary situation of one abandoned nest indicated that soils around abandoned nests evolve gradually back to undisturbed soils. Although an overall negative influence on the testacean diversity, a limited albatross’ influence may increase the living fraction within the testacean soil communities.  相似文献

The specific composition and community structure of testate amoebae in the moss biotopes of streams were studied in the Sura River basin (Middle Volga region). Twenty-nine species and forms were identified. The eurybiont species Trinema enchelys, Euglypha ciliata glabra, Centropyxis aerophila, Tracheleuglypha dentata, Crythion dubium, Centropyxis cassis, Trinema complanatum, and Trinema lineare are dominant. The species richness varies from 2 to 11 species per sample, the abundance is 100 to 4000 ind./g of absolutely dry moss. The degree of forest covering in the basin, hydrochemical peculiarities (the amount of biogenic elements and water hardness) of streams, the size of streams, and environmental contamination are possible factors that determine the specific character of the composition and structure of testate amoebae communities.  相似文献

Tree hollows often harbor animals and microorganisms, thereby storing nutritive resources derived from their biological activities. The outflows from tree hollows can create unique microenvironments, which may affect communities of epiphytic organisms on trunk surfaces below the hollows. In this study, we tested whether the species richness and composition of epiphytic bryophytes (liverworts and mosses) and lichens differ above and below tree hollows of Aria japonica and Cercidiphyllum japonicum in a Japanese temperate forest. The species richness of epiphytic bryophytes and lichens did not differ above and below hollows; however, the species composition of bryophytes differed significantly above and below hollows. Indicator species analyses showed that the moss species Anomodon tristis and the liverwort species Porella vernicosa were significantly more common below than above hollows, while the liverwort species Radula japonica and four lichen species, including Leptogium cyanescens, occurred more frequently above than below hollows. Our results highlight that tree hollows can produce unique microenvironments on trunk surfaces that potentially contribute to the maintenance of epiphytic diversity on a local scale.  相似文献

The study was carried out in the years 2016–2017, five years after a windstorm which destroyed 1/3 of the protected beech forest area in the west of Poland. The community of centipedes in the area affected by the windstorm was depleted in terms of the species richness, diversity, and population density. The dominance structures were shortened and the species composition was rebuilt. The areas that proved to be the richest in terms of species richness and diversity among the sites affected by the windstorm were the one where windfallen trees were left and the other where beech trees had been planted by humans. In total, the quantitative and qualitative samples collected four times throughout a year featured 608 specimens from 11 species of two centipede orders – Lithobiomorpha and Geophilomorpha. Lithobius curtipes and L. forficatus were found in all of the investigated areas. L. pelidnus and L. piceus were captured at control sites exclusively. Only one species –L. erythrocephalus was found solely at the damaged site. The most numerous and most frequently found species in the community were L. curtipes, L. mutabilis, and Strigamia acuminata respectively. Although windstorms are natural phenomena their consequences may lead to significant changes in the community of the investigated soil animals. The importance of coarse woody debris, significantly contributing to the improvement and maintenance of species richness and diversity of Chilopoda, has once again been confirmed.  相似文献

A comparative study on the effect of light and temperature on the daily rhythm of adult eclosion was carried out on the blood-sucking mosquitoes Aedes (Ochlerotatus) communis De Geer and Culex pipiens pipiens L. Two forms of C. p. pipiens were investigated: the autogenous form molestus occurring in the underground habitats (the urban mosquito), and the anautogenous form pipiens inhabiting mostly the above-ground biotopes. The study included both field observations and laboratory experiments. Under natural conditions (southern Karelia, 62°N) at optimal temperatures A. communis and C. p. p. f. pipiens demonstrated a bimodal eclosion rhythm with morning and evening peaks, whereas in C. p. p. f. molestus only an evening maximum was observed. The fraction of adults eclosing in the middle of the day increased at lower temperatures. In all the mosquitoes studied, the daily eclosion dynamics in the nature did not differ significantly between the variants with different levels of illumination, suggesting that temperature was the main factor regulating the eclosion rhythm. However, experiments with constant temperature showed that light also could influence the timing of eclosion. The responsiveness to light was different in two studied forms of C. p. pipiens. Under a constant temperature and light-dark cycles the rhythm became weak or disappeared completely in the mosquitoes from above-ground biotopes (A. communis and C. p. p. f. pipiens) but persisted in the urban mosquito. The effect of gradual twilight transitions was more prominent than that of switching the light on or off abruptly. The observed differences in the light and temperature dependence of the eclosion rhythm are discussed in relation to the ecological conditions in different habitats.  相似文献

IT has been known for some time that in certain species of cellular slime moulds acrasin, the substance which attracts the amoebae to central collection points during the aggregation phase, is cyclic AMP1–4. We were also able to show that E. coli gave off another substance besides cyclic AMP (henceforth referred to as bacterial factor, or BF) which attracted the vegetative amoebae of Dictyostelium discoideum5. Here we demonstrate that this second attractant has the properties of folic acid or one of its derivatives. We also show that folic acid and related compounds not only attract the vegetative amoebae of D. discoideum (No. NC-4H) but also the amoebae of six other species (Dictyostelium rosarium No. CC-7; D. mucoroides No. 11; D. purpureum No. 2; D. minutum No. V-3; Polysphondylium violaceum No. 1; P. pallidum No. 2). For the latter three species cyclic AMP is not the aggregative attractant (ref. 6 and J. T. B., E. M. H., S. Noller, F. B. Oleson and A. B. Roberts, in preparation) which raises the interesting question of whether their acrasin might be related to the folates.  相似文献

Multi-year temporal studies are invaluable tools for monitoring changes in biodiversity through time. However, their applications in coastal ecosystems are still scarce. We investigated temporal trends in coastal dunes analyzing a set of 858 randomly-sampled georeferenced relevés performed between 2002 and 2015 along Central Italy’s sandy coastlines. Specifically, we explored changes in species richness and cover of targeted sandy habitats, we investigated trends in the cover of selected psammophilous native species and we assessed patterns of invasion by means of regression techniques. We observed a significant decrease in species richness and cover of the dune grasslands habitat. The species-level analysis confirmed a negative trend for two characteristic species of dune grasslands, Cutandia maritima and Medicago littoralis, while revealing a similar decline for Crucianella maritima and for Ammophila arenaria subsp. australis, key species of mobile dunes. The most striking trends emerged analyzing patterns in the cover of an invasive alien species, Carpobrotus sp., which showed a concerning increase in shifting dunes. In conclusion, our analyses reveal concerning changes involving dune grasslands, and at the same time hint at “early warnings” of degradation processes traceable in shifting dunes.  相似文献

Integration between ecology and biogeography provides insights into how niche specialization affects the geographical distribution of species. Given that rivers are not effective barriers to dispersal in three parapatric species of squirrel monkeys (Saimiri vanzolinii, S. cassiquiarensis and S. macrodon) inhabiting floodplain forests of Central Amazonia, we tested whether forest structure and tree diversity may explain species differences in niche specialization and spatial segregation. We sampled 6617 trees of 326 species in three habitats (high várzea, low várzea and chavascal) used by three Saimiri species, and estimated tree species richness in each of them. For each tree, we measured variables known to influence habitat use in primates, such as crown area and presence of lianas, epiphytes and hemi-epiphytes. We used ANOVA to compare these variables and performed multivariate analyses (NMDS, ANOSIM and SIMPER) to evaluate dissimilarities in forest structure among each habitat inhabited by the three Saimiri species. We identified differences in the tree species richness, crown area and presence of lianas, epiphytes and hemi-epiphytes between the three habitats for all Saimiri species. NMDS demonstrated that areas of high and low várzeas occupied by S. vanzolinii were clearly separated from the other species. We also found that different plant species contributed to dissimilarity among Saimiri ranges. Our findings support the hypothesis that tree community structure may promote niche specialization and spatial segregation among primates. We discuss how these patterns could have been favored by historical changes in forest flood patterns, the evolutionary history of Saimiri spp., and past competition.  相似文献
