Microscopic observations were made of wear on the proximal surfaces of tooth crowns of Australian Aboriginals and whites. Typical wear facets displayed well-defined borders within which vertical or near vertical furrows, ranging from about 0.1 to 0.5 mm in width, were noted. Furrows on the interproximal surface of one tooth seemed to "interdigitate" with those on the proximal surface of the adjacent tooth. These observations are not consistent with the commonly-held view that interproximal tooth wear results from a buccolingual movement of adjacent teeth that maintain contact through mesial migration. Vertical or near vertical movement of teeth, possibly including a tipping action, must be an important factor, although the precise nature of the movement requires further investigation.  相似文献

The finite element method is a useful technique for measuring structural stress and for movement analyses. The objective of this investigation was to get a more accurate estimation of tooth movement depending on application point when a tipping orthodontic force is applied. The three-dimensional model of un upper canine, consisting of 4,000 hexahedron elements with 2,367 nodes was obtained. Horizontal, orally directed 1N tipping orthodontic force was applied to the model on five different levels of the tooth crown. The three-dimensional mathematical finite element model is useful in analyzing the tooth movement in response to orthodontic forces. The tipping tooth movement is greater if the force is applied closer to its neck, or more gingivally.  相似文献

Reiterative signaling and patterning during mammalian tooth morphogenesis   总被引:47,自引:0,他引:47  
Mammalian dentition consists of teeth that develop as discrete organs. From anterior to posterior, the dentition is divided into regions of incisor, canine, premolar and molar tooth types. Particularly teeth in the molar region are very diverse in shape. The development of individual teeth involves epithelial-mesenchymal interactions that are mediated by signals shared with other organs. Parts of the molecular details of signaling networks have been established, particularly in the signal families BMP, FGF, Hh and Wnt, mostly by the analysis of gene expression and signaling responses in knockout mice with arrested tooth development. Recent evidence suggests that largely the same signaling cascade is used reiteratively throughout tooth development. The successional determination of tooth region, tooth type, tooth crown base and individual cusps involves signals that regulate tissue growth and differentiation. Tooth type appears to be determined by epithelial signals and to involve differential activation of homeobox genes in the mesenchyme. This differential signaling could have allowed the evolutionary divergence of tooth shapes among the four tooth types. The advancing tooth morphogenesis is punctuated by transient signaling centers in the epithelium corresponding to the initiation of tooth buds, tooth crowns and individual cusps. The latter two signaling centers, the primary enamel knot and the secondary enamel knot, have been well characterized and are thought to direct the differential growth and subsequent folding of the dental epithelium. Several members of the FGF signal family have been implicated in the control of cell proliferation around the non-dividing enamel knots. Spatiotemporal induction of the secondary enamel knots determines the cusp patterns of individual teeth and is likely to involve repeated activation and inhibition of signaling as suggested for patterning of other epithelial organs.  相似文献

目的:探讨在利用微种植体支抗整体内收前牙过程中增加前牙区不同位置压低力对上颌前后牙的生物力学效应的影响。方法:采用螺旋CT扫描获取图像并结合MIMICS等软件进行三维重建,建立拔除上颌第一前磨牙整体内收前牙的三维有限元模型,分析利用第二前磨牙与第一磨牙间微种植体整体内收前牙过程中,增加前牙区不同位置压低力后前后牙的生物力学效应。结果:增加前牙区压低力后,前牙舌向倾斜移动明显减小,不同位置的垂直向力对前牙的影响不同,第一磨牙在整体内收过程中表现为远中倾斜移动。结论:1增加前牙区压低力能够实现对前牙转矩的有效控制;2增加前牙区的压低力使前牙更趋向于整体移动;3在微种植体支抗内收前牙过程实现了较好的垂直向控制。  相似文献

A three-dimensional finite element model was used to investigate the biomechanical response of an upper canine tooth. The physical model was developed from ceramic replicas and X-rays, and consisted of cancellous and cortical bone, the periodontal ligament, dentine and pulp chamber. Horizontal forces were applied at the tip of the crown and at the cervical margin and a rotational force was applied at the cervical margin of the tooth crown. The resulting displacements and stress field for each load case are presented with particular emphasis being placed on the response of the periodontal ligament. The investigation shows that quantitative information on initial tooth movement can be accurately predicted and used to evaluate the response of orthodontic treatment.  相似文献

Previous studies from our laboratories have shown that premolar eruption in dogs depends upon the presence of the dental follicle and is independent of root or crown growth or attachment to the oral epithelium. The present study is an analysis of the cellular composition of the dental follicle and the cellular investment of the adjacent walls of the bony crypt before and during eruption of the third and fourth mandibular permanent premolars in young beagle dogs. Four premolar follicles and their adjacent bony crypts were examined at 2-week intervals over 12 weeks before and during eruption of these teeth. Tissues were removed, fixed, processed, and oriented so that each follicle and the adjacent crypt wall could be reproducibly examined in vertical and horizontal planes. Mononuclear cells with abundant cytoplasm, euchromatic nuclei, and prominent nucleoli were present in juxtavascular location in the coronal part of the dental follicle; and these cells increased in number immediately preceding and during tooth eruption in parallel with an increase in osteoclasts on the adjacent crypt wall. These data are interpreted to mean that the coronal part of the dental follicle may coordinate the alveolar bone resorption required for tooth eruption by attracting and directing to the crypt wall a population of mononuclear cells, which either become osteoclasts and/or direct osteoclastic activity during tooth eruption.  相似文献

Periodontal diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis have damaging effects on the periodontium and commonly affect the mechanical properties of the periodontal ligament (PDL), which in the end might lead to loss of teeth. Monitoring tooth mobility and changes of the material properties of the PDL might help in early diagnosis of periodontal diseases and improve their prognosis. It was the aim of this study to develop a novel intraoral device to determine the biomechanical characteristics of the periodontal ligament. This includes the measurement of applied forces and resulting tooth displacement in order to investigate the biomechanical behaviour of the periodontium with varying loading protocols with respect to velocity and tooth displacement. The developed device uses a piezoelectric actuator to apply a displacement to a tooth's crown, and the resulting force is measured by an integrated force sensor. To measure the tooth displacement independently and non-invasively, two magnets are fixed on the teeth. The change in the magnetic field caused by the movement of the magnets is measured by a total of 16 Hall sensors. The displacement of the tooth is calculated from the movement of the magnets. The device was tested in vitro on premolars of four porcine mandibular segments and in vivo on two volunteers. The teeth were loaded with varying activation curves. Comparing the force progression of different activation velocities, the forces decreased with decreasing velocity. Intensive testing demonstrated that the device fulfils all requirements. After acceptance of the ethical committee, further testing in clinical measurements is planned.  相似文献

Interstitial wear refers to the attrition between adjacent teeth. With other characteristics, it has been used to indicate savanna adaptation and to separate hominids from pongids. This work discusses a functional model of the factors causing interproximal attrition based on tooth angulation and masticatory movement. Interstitial wear rates are calculated for chimpanzees, australopithecines, and two living human groups. A much higher wear rate occurs for chimpanzee teeth. Limitations in both the adaptive and the phylogenetic meaning of interstitial wear in hominids are suggested.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to investigate experimentally the mechanical properties of tooth deflection under external loading. These properties have a significant impact on tooth movement during orthodontic treatment. The stresses and strains caused by tooth movement influence bone remodelling, which is the basis of orthodontic treatment. The movement of a tooth as a direct reaction to the forces acting on it is termed "initial" movement. It is nonlinear and has a clearly time-dependent component. While the initial tooth movement represents the totality of the reaction mechanisms of all the tissues of the tooth unit, it is determined primarily by the mechanical properties of the periodontal ligament (PDL). The PDL is the softest tissue of the tooth unit and is therefore subject to the largest deformations when forces act on the crown of the tooth. The objective of orthodontic treatment is to achieve as precise and rapid tooth movement as possible, without provoking such undesired effects as bone and root resorption. To enable the implementation of an optimal orthodontic force system that meets these requirements, a thorough knowledge of the biomechanics of tooth movement is a must.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to develop a numerically controlled experimental set-up to predict the movement caused by the force systems of orthodontic devices and to experimentally verify this system. The presented experimental set-up incorporated an artificial tooth fixed via a 3D force/moment sensor to a parallel kinematics robot. An algorithm determining the initial movement of the tooth in its elastic embedding controlled the set-up. The initial tooth movement was described by constant compliances. The constants were obtained prior to the experiment in a parameterised finite element (FE) study on the basis of a validated FE model of a human molar. The long-term tooth movement was assembled by adding up a multiple of incremental steps of initial tooth movements. A pure translational movement of the tooth of about 8 mm resulted for a moment to force ratio of ? 8.85 mm, corresponding to the distance between the bracket and the centre of resistance. The correct behaviour of this linear elastic model in its symmetry plane allows for simulating single tooth movement induced by orthodontic devices.  相似文献

Tooth size varies exponentially with body weight in primates. Logarithmic transformation of tooth crown area and body weight yields a linear model of slope 0.67 as an isometric (geometric) baseline for study of dental allometry. This model is compared with that predicted by metabolic scaling (slope = 0.75). Tarsius and other insectivores have larger teeth for their body size than generalized primates do, and they are not included in this analysis. Among generalized primates, tooth size is highly correlated with body size. Correlations of upper and lower cheek teeth with body size range from 0.90–0.97, depending on tooth position. Central cheek teeth (P and M) have allometric coefficients ranging from 0.57–0.65, falling well below geometric scaling. Anterior and posterior cheek teeth scale at or above metabolic scaling. Considered individually or as a group, upper cheek teeth scale allometrically with lower coefficients than corresponding lower cheek teeth; the reverse is true for incisors. The sum of crown areas for all upper cheek teeth scales significantly below geometric scaling, while the sum of crown areas for all lower cheek teeth approximates geometric scaling. Tooth size can be used to predict the body weight of generalized fossil primates. This is illustrated for Aegyptopithecus and other Eocene, Oligocene, and Miocene primates. Regressions based on tooth size in generalized primates yield reasonable estimates of body weight, but much remains to be learned about tooth size and body size scaling in more restricted systematic groups and dietary guilds.  相似文献

Most previous studies of tooth development have used fractional stages of tooth formation to construct growth standards suitable for aging juvenile skeletal material. A simple alternative for determining dental age is to measure tooth length throughout development. In this study, data on tooth length development are presented from 63 individuals of known age at death, between birth and 5.4 years, from an archeological population recovered from the crypt of Christ Church, Spitalfields, London. Isolated developing teeth (304 deciduous, 269 permanent) were measured in millimeters and plotted against individual age. Regression equations to estimate age from a given tooth length, are presented for each deciduous maxillary and mandibular tooth type and for permanent maxillary and mandibular incisors, canines, and first permanent molars. Data on the earliest age of root completion of deciduous teeth and initial mineralization and crown completion of some permanent teeth in this sample are given, as well as the average crown height and total tooth length from a small number of unworn teeth. This method provides an easy, quantitative and objective measure of dental formation appropriate for use by archeologists and anthropologists. © 1993 Wiley-Liss, Inc.  相似文献

对2004—2006年在黄龙洞发现的7枚人类牙齿磨耗与使用痕迹的观察显示: 除具有正常牙齿相互接触造成的磨耗外, 黄龙洞人类牙齿还呈现出一些特殊的使用痕迹, 包括明显的前部牙齿釉质破损与崩裂、上颌侧门齿齿冠唇面釉质破损、上颌前部牙齿齿间邻接面沟等。根据这些牙齿使用痕迹集中在前部牙齿, 釉质破损与崩裂主要分布在靠近切缘的上颌门齿唇面及下颌门齿舌面的情况, 推测生活在黄龙洞的更新世晚期人类经常使用前部牙齿从事啃咬、叼衔、或剥离等动作, 并可能将前部牙齿作为工具使用。分布在前部牙齿的齿间邻接面沟提示当时人类经常从事剔牙活动。黄龙洞人类前部牙齿的使用痕迹与当时人类获取、处理及食用附着在骨骼上的筋或肉的动作密切相关, 当时人类的食物构成中可能包含有较多的肉类及粗纤维植物。  相似文献

In populations living in environments where teeth wear severely, some compensatory modification of the dentoalveolar complex is thought to occur during life whereby functional occlusion is maintained as tooth substance is lost by wear. This study investigates one aspect of this modification process: Changes in the anterior dentoalveolar complex that are accompanied with wear were examined in a series of Japanese skeletal samples. In the prehistoric Japanese hunter-gatherer population heavy wear occurs over the entire dentition. The following changes were demonstrated to have occurred in the anterior segment of the dentition accompanied by wear on the anterior teeth: The anterior teeth tip lingually with wear up to a nearly upright position to fill in interproximal spaces that would have been generated by wear, and to maintain contact relations between adjacent teeth. At the same time, the anterior surface of the maxillary alveolar process also inclines lingually to a certain extent. The amount of lingual tipping is greater in the maxillary anterior teeth than in their mandibular antagonists. It is because of this discrepancy that, with age, the horizontal component of the overlap between maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth decreases, and their bite form changes from scissor bite to edge-to-edge bite. Lesser degrees of lingual tipping of the anterior teeth were also detected in the prehistoric agriculturists and historic Japanese populations. The variation in the degree of lingual tipping observed among the samples is explained by inter-population variation in severity and pattern of tooth wear. This and other evidence suggests that mechanisms that compensate for wear in the anterior dentition may be characteristic of all living human populations, independently of the degree of wear severity endured in their environments.  相似文献

A new method, applied for the first time in this research, was used for measurement of tooth extraction forces. The research has been done in a group of 50 examinees to whom the tooth extraction has been done with lower premolar forceps - forceps "13" and in the control group of 54 examinees in whom the tooth extraction has been done with upper incisive forceps - forceps "1". The measurement instrument registered the extraction forces values in both types of forceps. There was no difference in any parameters in these two groups except in used pressure. While using the forceps "13", a significantly lower tooth extraction force was measured than the force measured while using the forceps "1" (p < 0.001). This means that in clinical work we can already apply noticeably less force using the lower premolar forceps for the extraction of the upper incisors (in the moments of rotation up to 70%). These results are meaningful, because they lead to better and improved instrument solutions and working techniques.  相似文献

Early diagnosis of agenesis of the mandibular second premolar (P2) enhances management of the dental arch in the growing child. The aim of this study was to explore the relationship in the development of the mandibular first molar (M1) and first premolar (P1) at early stages of P2 (second premolar). Specifically, we ask if the likelihood of P2 agenesis can be predicted from adjacent developing teeth. We selected archived dental panoramic radiographs with P2 at crown formation stages (N = 212) and calculated the likelihood of P2 at initial mineralisation stage ‘Ci’ given the tooth stage of adjacent teeth. Our results show that the probability of observing mandibular P2 at initial mineralisation stage ‘Ci’ decreased as both the adjacent P1 and M1 matured. The modal stage at P2 ‘Ci’ was P1 ‘Coc’ (cusp outline complete) and M1 ‘Crc’ (crown complete). Initial mineralisation of P2 was observed up to P1 ‘Crc’ and M1 stage ‘R½’ (root half). The chance of observing P2 at least ‘Coc’ (coalescence of cusps) was considerably greater prior to these threshold stages compared to later stages of P1 and M1. These findings suggest that P2 is highly unlikely to develop if P1 is beyond ‘Crc’ and M1 is beyond ‘R½’.  相似文献

A recent paper concerning characteristic groove-shaped wear in interproximal attritional facets of Neandertal posterior teeth correlated groove formation with deep enamel structural traits (Villa & Giacobini, 1995). Further studies were carried out on modern human teeth in order to evaluate a possible correlation between deep enamel structure and some crown complex morphological features. Seventy-five isolated molars from medieval and recent ossuaries as well as five molars recently extracted for therapeutic purpose were examined using scanning electron and optic microscope ground sections of interproximal enamel. The results showed possible correlations between deep enamel structural characteristics (i.e., Hunter-Schreger band verticalization) and some crown complex traits (i.e., occlusal groove pattern, mesial and distalfovea, mesial and distal accessory tubercules, interproximal marginal ridges). Observations reported in this study showed a significantly higher frequency of Hunter-Schreger band verticalization in lower molars with an occlusal complex pattern (i.e. primitive fissure pattern “Y” or “+”). This observation suggests a positive correlation among crown complex traits (which occur frequently in Neandertal teeth) with deep enamel structural characteristics. In addition, analysis of teeth grouped according to individual showed crown morphological traits and deep enamel structural characteristics corresponding to the same individual. This observation supports a genetic basis in occlusal shape and microstructural dental traits.  相似文献

There is little information available concerning the effects of orthodontic forces on glycosaminoglycans (GAG) of alveolar bone. The present study identifies changes in Alcian blue staining intensity in rat alveolar bone undergoing resorption resulting from a heavy (25g) tipping force applied to the adjacent teeth by a separating spring. One day after force application, bone from treated animals (internal control and experimental sides) demonstrated more intense staining with Alcian blue, pH 1.0 (p less than 0.005) and pH 2.5 (p less than 0.05) than external controls (untreated animals). By day 3, the intensity of Alcian blue staining of treated alveolar bone was similar to untreated. Chondroitinase AC, ABC and testicular hyaluronidase predigestion did not completely block the staining reaction, suggesting that both GAG and noncollagenous proteins were demonstrated. Mean cross-sectional areas of the interdental septum of the experimental side were nearly 44% less than that of the internal control side after 3 days and nearly 62% less after 5 days. The study suggested that alterations in bone GAG levels occurred prior to tooth movement as histochemical changes occurred after force application but before initiation of significant septal resorption. A precise appraisal of the types of macromolecules effected awaits future biochemical analysis. The results of the present work strongly suggest the use of an external control group for future studies, as Alcian blue staining reactions of the internal control side of treated animals were not similar to those of external controls.  相似文献

We present a simple bowl-shaped model in the complex plane for the enamel and dentin structure of a tooth. Isochronous mode lines, and path lines representing the paths followed by individual ameloblasts and odontoblasts, form a simple regular mesh in the model. After the conformal map W = Z2, the transformed model is remarkably tooth like. To further improve the simulation of the crown of an incisiform tooth in particular, we compare our results to our own data from actual teeth and data from the literature. This leads us (a) to adjust the initial model so that the mesh of mode and path lines intersects the boundary of the tooth in a realistic way, and (b) to refine the mapping using least-squares regression to fit polynomial functions of Z and W to the available data.  相似文献
