The electrodes in energy storage devices, such as lithium/sodium ion batteries, are typical multicomponent system consisting of inorganic electrode particles, polymer binders, conductive fillers, current collectors, and other components. These components are usually porously combined by a polymeric binder to accomplish the required electrochemical functions. In spite of the great success, this classic porous configuration faces serious issues in mechanical stability and flexibility due to weak and instable structures/interfaces. Here, by learning from polymeric nanocomposites, a concept of electrode matrix is proposed based on a gum‐like nanocomposite, a dual‐conductive adhesive. As an electrode matrix, the gum‐like nanocomposite integrates the functions of binder, electrolyte, and conductive fillers. In particular, it shows strong adhesion, high electrical/ionic conductivities, and appropriate mechanical and self‐healing properties. Finally, it is demonstrated that, with the electrode matrix, battery electrodes can be fabricated into nonporous composite showing not only excellent mechanical flexibility/stability but also improved electrochemical performance when working with a gum‐like electrolyte.  相似文献

Owing to the high voltage of lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs), the dominating electrolyte is non‐aqueous. The idea of an aqueous rechargeable lithium battery (ARLB) dates back to 1994, but it had attracted little attention due to the narrow stable potential window of aqueous electrolytes, which results in low energy density. However, aqueous electrolytes were employed during the 2000s for the fundamental studies of electrode materials in the absence of side reactions such as the decomposition of organic species. The high solubility of lithium bis(trifluoromethane sulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI) in water has introduced new opportunities for high‐voltage ARLBs. Nonetheless, these ideas are somehow overshadowed by the common perception about the essential limitation of the aqueous electrolyte. The electrochemical behaviour of conventional electrode materials can be substantially tuned in the water‐in‐salt electrolytes. The latest idea of utilising a graphite anode in the aqueous water‐in‐salt electrolytes has paved the way towards not only 4‐V ARLB but also a new generation of Li?S batteries with a higher operating voltage and energy efficiency. Furthermore, aqueous electrolytes can provide a cathodically stable environment for Li?O2 batteries. The present paper aims to highlight these emerging opportunities possibly leading to a new generation of LIBs, which can be substantially cheaper and safer.  相似文献

Development of electrolytes that simultaneously have high ionic conductivity, wide electrochemical window, and lithium dendrite suppression ability is urgently required for high‐energy lithium‐metal batteries (LMBs). Herein, an electrolyte is designed by adding a countersolvent into LiFSI/DMC (lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)amide/dimethyl carbonate) electrolytes, forming countersolvent electrolytes, in which the countersolvent is immiscible with the salt but miscible with the carbonate solvents. The solvation structure and unique properties of the countersolvent electrolyte are investigated by combining electroanalytical technology with a Molecular Dynamics simulation. Introducing the countersolvent alters the coordination shell of Li+ cations and enhances the interaction between Li+ cations and FSI? anions, which leads to the formation of a LiF‐rich solid electrolyte interphase, arising from the preferential reduction of FSI? anions. Notably, the countersolvent electrolyte suppresses Li dendrites and enables stable cycling performance of a Li||NCM622 battery at a high cut‐off voltage of 4.6 V at both 25 and 60 °C. This study provides an avenue to understand and design electrolytes for high‐energy LMBs in the future.  相似文献

The last decade has seen considerable advancements in the development of solid electrolytes for solid‐state battery applications, with particular attention being paid to sulfide superionic conductors. Importantly, the intrinsic electrochemical instability of these high‐performance separators highlights the notion that further progress in the field of solid‐state batteries is contingent on the optimization of component material interfaces in order to secure high energy and power densities, while maintaining device safety and a practical cycle life. On the cathode side, the need for a protective coating to inhibit solid electrolyte degradation is clear; however, a mechanistic understanding of the coating functionality remains unresolved, and there is still much room for improvement regarding the methodology and associated material properties. Herein, the essential requirements for a suitable coating are specified and fundamental considerations are discussed in detail. Additionally, this article will provide an overview of the various material classes, assessment protocols and practical coating methods, as well as an outlook on the development of coatings for cathode active materials in thiophosphate‐based solid‐state batteries.  相似文献

Safety, nontoxicity, and durability directly determine the applicability of the essential characteristics of the lithium (Li)‐ion battery. Particularly, for the lithium–sulfur battery, due to the low ignition temperature of sulfur, metal lithium as the anode material, and the use of flammable organic electrolytes, addressing security problems is of increased difficulty. In the past few years, two basic electrolyte systems are studied extensively to solve the notorious safety issues. One system is the conventional organic liquid electrolyte, and the other is the inorganic solid‐state or quasi‐solid‐state composite electrolyte. Here, the recent development of engineered liquid electrolytes and design considerations for solid electrolytes in tackling these safety issues are reviewed to ensure the safety of electrolyte systems between sulfur cathode materials and the lithium‐metal anode. Specifically, strategies for designing and modifying liquid electrolytes including introducing gas evolution, flame, aqueous, and dendrite‐free electrolytes are proposed. Moreover, the considerations involving a high‐performance Li+ conductor, air‐stable Li+ conductors, and stable interface performance between the sulfur cathode and the lithium anode for developing all‐solid‐state electrolytes are discussed. In the end, an outlook for future directions to offer reliable electrolyte systems is presented for the development of commercially viable lithium–sulfur batteries.  相似文献

Capacitive carbons are attractive for energy storage on account of their superior rate and cycling performance over traditional battery materials, but they usually suffer from a far lower volumetric energy density. Starting with expanded graphene, a simple, multifunctional molten sodium amide treatment for the preparation of high‐density graphene with high capacitive performance in both aqueous and lithium battery electrolytes is reported. The molten sodium amide can condense the expanded graphene, lead to nitrogen doping and, what is more important, create moderate in‐plane nanopores on graphene to serve as ion access shortcuts in dense graphene stacks. The resulting high‐density graphene electrode can deliver a volumetric capacitance of 522 F cm?3 in a potassium hydroxide electrolyte; and in a lithium‐ion battery electrolyte, it exhibits a gravimetric and volumetric energy density of 618 W h kg?1 and 740 W h L?1, respectively, and even outperforms commercial LiFePO4.  相似文献

Sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs) have the potential to be practically applied in large‐scale energy storage markets. The rapid progress of SIBs research is primarily focused on electrodes, while electrolytes attract less attention. Indeed, the improvement of electrode performance is arguably correlated with the electrolyte optimization. In conventional lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs), ether‐based electrolytes are historically less practical owing to the insufficient passivation of both anodes and cathodes. As an important class of aprotic electrolytes, ethers have revived with the emerging lithium‐sulfur and lithium‐oxygen batteries in recent years, and are even booming in the wave of SIBs. Ether‐based electrolytes are unique to enabling these new battery chemistries in terms of producing stable ternary graphite intercalation compounds, modifying anode solid electrolyte interphases, reducing the solubility of intermediates, and decreasing polarization. Better still, ether‐based electrolytes are compatible with specific inorganic cathodes and could catalyze the assembly of full SIBs prototypes. This Research News article aims to summarize the recent critical reports on ether‐based electrolytes in sodium‐based batteries, to unveil the uniqueness of ether‐based electrolytes to advancing diverse electrode materials, and to shed light on the viability and challenges of ether‐based electrolytes in future sodium‐based battery chemistries.  相似文献

Solid state electrolytes are the key components for high energy density lithium ion batteries and especially for lithium metal batteries where lithium dendrite growth is an inevitable obstacle in liquid electrolytes. Solid polymer electrolytes based on a complex of polymers and lithium salts are intrinsically advantageous over inorganic electrolytes in terms of processability and film‐forming properties. But other properties such as ionic conductivity, thermal stability, mechanical modulus, and electrochemical stability need to be improved. Herein, for the first time, 2D additives using few‐layer vermiculite clay sheets as an example to comprehensively upgrade poly(ethylene oxide)‐based solid polymer electrolyte are introduced. With clay sheet additives, the polymer electrolyte exhibits improved thermal stability, mechanical modulus, ionic conductivity, and electrochemical stability along with reduced flammability and interface resistance. The composite polymer electrolyte can suppress the formation and growth of lithium dendrites in lithium metal batteries. It is anticipated that the clay sheets upgraded solid polymer electrolyte can be integrated to construct high performance solid state lithium ion and lithium metal batteries with higher energy and safety.  相似文献

Recently, a consensus has been reached that using lithium metal as an anode in rechargeable Li‐ion batteries is the best way to obtain the high energy density necessary to power electronic devices. Challenges remain, however, with respect to controlling dendritic Li growth on these electrodes, enhancing compatibility with carbonate‐based electrolytes, and forming a stable solid–electrolyte interface layer. Herein, a groundbreaking solution to these challenges consisting in the preparation of a Li2TiO3 (LT) layer that can be used to cover Li electrodes via a simple and scalable fabrication method, is suggested. Not only does this LT layer impede direct contact between electrode and electrolyte, thus avoiding side reactions, but it assists and expedites Li‐ion flux in batteries, thus suppressing Li dendrite growth. Other effects of the LT layer on electrochemical performance are investigated by scanning electron microscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and galvanostatic intermittent titration technique analyses. Notably, LT layer‐incorporating Li cells comprising high‐capacity/voltage cathodes with reasonably high mass loading (LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2, LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4, and LiMn2O4) show highly stable cycling performance in a carbonate‐based electrolyte. Therefore, it is believed that the approach based on the LT layer can boost the realization of high energy density lithium metal batteries and next‐generation batteries.  相似文献

LiNixMnyCo1?x?yO2 (NMC) cathode materials with Ni ≥ 0.8 have attracted great interest for high energy‐density lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) but their practical applications under high charge voltages (e.g., 4.4 V and above) still face significant challenges due to severe capacity fading by the unstable cathode/electrolyte interface. Here, an advanced electrolyte is developed that has a high oxidation potential over 4.9 V and enables NMC811‐based LIBs to achieve excellent cycling stability in 2.5–4.4 V at room temperature and 60 °C, good rate capabilities under fast charging and discharging up to 3C rate (1C = 2.8 mA cm?2), and superior low‐temperature discharge performance down to ?30 °C with a capacity retention of 85.6% at C/5 rate. It is also demonstrated that the electrode/electrolyte interfaces, not the electrolyte conductivity and viscosity, govern the LIB performance. This work sheds light on a very promising strategy to develop new electrolytes for fast‐charging high‐energy LIBs in a wide‐temperature range.  相似文献

Solid‐state lithium metal batteries (SSLMBs) may become one of the high‐energy density storage devices for the next generation of electric vehicles. High safety and energy density can be achieved by utilizing solid electrolytes and Li metal anodes. Therefore, developing cathode materials which can match with Li metal anode efficiently is indispensable. In SSLMBs, Li metal anodes can afford the majority of active lithium ions, then lithium‐depleted cathode materials can be a competitive candidate to achieve high gravimetric energy density as well as save lithium resources. Li0.33MnO2 lithium‐depleted material is chosen, which also has the advantages of low synthesis temperature and low cost (cobalt‐free). Notably, solid‐state electrolyte can greatly alleviate the problem of manganese dissolution in the electrolyte, which is beneficial to improve the cycling stability of the battery. Thus, SSLMBs enable practical applications of lithium‐depleted cathode materials.  相似文献

In general, various kinds of surface modifications are utilized to enhance the power output performance of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), but they typically have limited stability. Here, a new strategy of adding electrolytes with asymmetric ion pairing to polymer friction layers of TENGs is introduced in order to enhance their triboelectric property. Indeed, Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) measurements show that an addition of phosphoric acid (H3PO4 ), an electrolyte with more cations than anions, to polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) can make it one of the most negative triboelectric materials; whereas, an addition of calcium chloride (CaCl2 ), an electrolyte with more anions than cations, to PVA can make it one of the most positive triboelectric materials. Furthermore, the TENGs based on such solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) produce significantly higher power output than typical metal‐polymer TENGs. Due to these unique features, SPEs are a promising triboelectric material for realizing high‐performance TENGs for self‐powered small electronics.  相似文献

Based on cation/anion graphite intercalation chemistry (GIC) processes, dual‐graphite batteries promise to be an energy storage device of high safety and low cost. However, few single electrolyte systems can simultaneously meet the requirements of both high oxidative stability during high voltage anion‐GIC on cathode and high reversibility upon cation‐GIC on anode. Thus, in order to rigidly remedy the irreversible capacity loss, excessive electrode materials need to be fabricated within full cell, resulting in an imbalance toward capacity‐dependent mass loading proportion between both electrodes. This work introduces a hybrid (dual‐organic) electrolytes design strategy into this promising technology. Segregated by a Nafion‐based separator, an ionic liquid electrolyte within the cathodic side can endure high operation potentials, while high Li‐GIC reversibility can be achieved in a superconcentrated ether‐based electrolyte on the anode side. On a mechanistic level, various cation‐GIC processes conducted in different electrolyte systems are clearly revealed and are summarized based on systematical characterizations. More importantly, after synergistically tuning the advantage and drawback of each electrolyte in this hybrid system, the dual‐graphite full cell assembled with capacity‐equivalent graphite‐based electrodes (1:1 mass loading) demonstrates superior long‐term cycling stability with ultrahigh capacity retention for over 3000 cycles.  相似文献

Solid‐state electrolytes are a promising candidate for the next‐generation lithium‐ion battery, as they have the advantages of eliminating the leakage hazard of liquid solvent and elevating stability. However, inherent limitations such as the low ionic conductivity of solid polymer electrolytes and the high brittleness of inorganic ceramic electrolytes severally impede their practical application. Here, an inexpensive, facile, and scalable strategy to fabricate a hybrid Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO) and poly(ethylene oxide)‐based electrolyte by exploiting bacterial cellulose as a template is reported. The well‐organized LLZO network significantly enhances the ionic conductivity by extending long transport pathways for Li ions, exhibiting an elevated conductivity of 1.12 × 10?4 S cm?1. In addition, the hybrid electrolyte presents a structural flexibility, with minor impedance increase after bending. The facile and applicable approach establishes new principles for the strategy of designing scalable and flexible hybrid polymer electrolytes that can be utilized for high‐energy‐density batteries.  相似文献

Graphene and quasi‐2D graphene‐like materials with an ultrathin thickness have been investigated as a new class of nanoscale materials due to their distinctive properties. A novel “molecular tools‐assistances” strategy is developed to fabricate two kinds of graphene‐based electrodes, ultrathin Fe‐doped MnO2 network coverage–graphene composites (G‐MFO) and ultrathin MoS2 network coverage–graphene composites (G‐MoS2) with special hierarchical structures. Such structures enable a large contact interface between the active materials and graphene and thus fully exploit the synergistic effect from both the high specific capacitance of MFO or MoS2 and the superb conductivity of graphene. Benefiting from their unique structural features, G‐MFO and G‐MoS2 films directly use as free‐standing electrodes for flexible asymmetric supercapacitors with a nonaqueous gel electrolyte. The device achieves a high energy/power density, superior flexibility, good rate capability as well as outstanding performance stability even at a high temperature. This work represents a promising prototype to design new generation of hybrid supercapacitors for future energy storage devices.  相似文献

Potassium‐ion batteries (PIBs) are promising energy storage systems because of the abundance and low cost of potassium. The formidable challenge is to develop suitable electrode materials and electrolytes for accommodating the relatively large size and high activity of potassium. Herein, Bi‐based materials are reported as novel anodes for PIBs. Nanostructural design and proper selection of the electrolyte salt have been used to achieve excellent cycling performance. It is found that the potassiation of Bi undergoes a solid‐solution reaction, followed by two typical two‐phase reactions, corresponding to Bi ? Bi(K) and Bi(K) ? K5Bi4 ? K3Bi, respectively. By choosing potassium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (KFSI) to replace potassium hexafluorophosphate (KPF6) in carbonate electrolyte, a more stable solid electrolyte interphase layer is achieved and results in notably enhanced electrochemical performance. More importantly, the KFSI salt is very versatile and can significantly promote the electrochemical performance of other alloy‐based anode materials, such as Sn and Sb.  相似文献

All‐solid‐state batteries (SSBs) are considered as attractive options for next‐generation energy storage owing to the favorable properties (unit transference number and thermal stabilities) of solid electrolytes. However, there are also serious concerns about mechanical deformation of solid electrolytes leading to the degradation of the battery performance. Therefore, understanding the mechanism underlying the electromechanical properties in SSBs is essentially important. Here, 3D and time‐resolved measurements of an all‐solid‐state cell using synchrotron radiation X‐ray tomographic microscopy are shown. The gradient of the electrochemical reaction and the morphological evolution in the composite layer can be clearly observed. Volume expansion/compression of the active material (Sn) is strongly oriented along the thickness of the electrode. While this results in significant deformation (cracking) in the solid electrolyte region, organized cracking patterns depending on the particle size and their arrangements is also found. This study based on operando visualization therefore opens the door toward rational design of particles and electrode morphology for all‐solid‐state batteries.  相似文献

The migration of zinc‐ion batteries from alkaline electrolyte to neutral or mild acidic electrolyte promotes research into their flexible applications. However, discharge voltage of many reported zinc‐ion batteries is far from satisfactory. On one hand, the battery voltage is substantially restricted by the narrow voltage window of aqueous electrolytes. On the other hand, many batteries yield a low‐voltage discharge plateau or show no plateau but capacitor‐like sloping discharge profiles. This impacts the battery's practicability for flexible electronics where stable and consistent high energy is needed. Herein, an aqueous zinc hybrid battery based on a highly concentrated dual‐ion electrolyte and a hierarchically structured lithium‐ion‐intercalative LiVPO4F cathode is developed. This hybrid battery delivers a flat and high‐voltage discharge plateau of nearly 1.9 V, ranking among the highest reported values for all aqueous zinc‐based batteries. The resultant high energy density of 235.6 Wh kg?1 at a power density of 320.8 W kg?1 also outperforms most reported zinc‐based batteries. A designed solid‐state and long‐lasting hydrogel electrolyte is subsequently applied in the fabrication of a flexible battery, which can be integrated into various flexible devices as powerful energy supply. The idea of designing such a hybrid battery offers a new strategy for developing high‐voltage and high‐energy aqueous energy storage systems.  相似文献

Lithium/selenium‐sulfur batteries have recently received considerable attention due to their relatively high specific capacities and high electronic conductivity. Different from the traditional encapsulation strategy for suppressing the shuttle effect, an alternative approach to directly bypass polysulfide/polyselenide formation via rational solid‐electrolyte interphase (SEI) design is demonstrated. It is found that the robust SEI layer that in situ forms during charge/discharge via interplay between rational cathode design and optimal electrolytes could enable solid‐state (de)lithiation chemistry for selenium‐sulfur cathodes. Hence, Se‐doped S22.2Se/Ketjenblack cathodes can attain a high reversible capacity with minimal shuttle effects during long‐term and high rate cycling. Moreover, the underlying solid‐state (de)lithiation mechanism, as evidenced by in situ 7Li NMR and in operando synchrotron X‐ray probes, further extends the optimal sulfur confinement pore size to large mesopores and even macropores that have been long considered as inferior sulfur or selenium host materials, which play a crucial role in developing high volumetric energy density batteries. It is expected that the findings in this study will ignite more efforts to tailor the compositional/structure characteristics of the SEI layers and the related ionic transport across the interface by electrode structure, electrolyte solvent, and electrolyte additive screening.  相似文献

In this work, an ether‐based electrolyte is adopted instead of conventional ester‐based electrolyte for an Sb2O3‐based anode and its enhancement mechanism is unveiled for K‐ion storage. The anode is fabricated by anchoring Sb2O3 onto reduced graphene oxide (Sb2O3‐RGO) and it exhibits better electrochemical performance using an ether‐based electrolyte than that using a conventional ester‐based electrolyte. By optimizing the concentration of the electrolyte, the Sb2O3‐RGO composite delivers a reversible specific capacity of 309 mAh g?1 after 100 cycles at 100 mA g?1. A high specific capacity of 201 mAh g?1 still remains after 3300 cycles (111 days) at 500 mA g?1 with almost no decay, exhibiting a longer cycle life compared with other metallic oxides. In order to further reveal the intrinsic mechanism, the energy changes for K atom migrating from surface into the sublayer of Sb2O3 are explored by density functional theory calculations. According to the result, the battery using the ether‐based electrolyte exhibits a lower energy change and migration barrier than those using other electrolytes for K‐ion, which is helpful to improve the K‐ion storage performance. It is believed that the work can provide deep understanding and new insight to enhance electrochemical performance using ether‐based electrolytes for KIBs.  相似文献
