As promising cathode materials, the lithium‐excess 3d‐transition‐metal layered oxides can deliver much higher capacities (>250 mAh g?1 at 0.1 C) than the current commercial layered oxide materials (≈180 mAh g?1 at 0.1 C) used in lithium ion batteries. Unfortunately, the original formation mechanism of these layered oxides during synthesis is not completely elucidated, that is, how is lithium and oxygen inserted into the matrix structure of the precursor during lithiation reaction? Here, a promising and practical method, a coprecipitation route followed by a microwave heating process, for controllable synthesis of cobalt‐free lithium‐excess layered compounds is reported. A series of the consistent results unambiguously confirms that oxygen atoms are successively incorporated into the precursor obtained by a coprecipitation process to maintain electroneutrality and to provide the coordination sites for inserted Li ions and transition metal cations via a high‐temperature lithiation. It is found that the electrochemical performances of the cathode materials are strongly related to the phase composition and preparation procedure. The monoclinic layered Li[Li0.2Ni0.2Mn0.6]O2 cathode materials with state‐of‐the‐art electrochemical performance and comparably high discharge capacities of 171 mAh g?1 at 10 C are obtained by microwave annealing at 750 °C for 2 h.  相似文献

Spinel‐layered composites, where a high‐voltage spinel is incorporated in a layered lithium‐rich (Li‐rich) cathode material with a nominal composition x{0.6Li2MnO3 · 0.4[LiCo0.333Mn0.333Ni0.333]O2} · (1 – x) Li[Ni0.5Mn1.5]O4 (x = 0, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 1) are synthesized via a hydroxide assisted coprecipitation route to generate high‐energy, high‐power cathode materials for Li‐ion batteries. X‐ray diffraction patterns and the cyclic voltammetry investigations confirm the presence of both the parent components in the composites. The electrochemical investigations performed within a wide potential window show an increased structural stability of the spinel component when incorporated into the composite environment. All the composite materials exhibit initial discharge capacities >200 mAh g–1. The compositions with x = 0.5 and 0.7 show excellent cycling stability among the investigated materials. Moreover, the first cycle Coulombic efficiency achieve a dramatic improvement with the incorporation of the spinel component. More notably, the composite materials with increased spinel component exhibit superior rate capability compared with the parent Li‐rich material especially together with the highest capacity retention for x = 0.5 composition, making this as the optimal high‐energy high‐power material. The mechanisms involved in the symbiotic relationship of the spinel and layered Li‐rich components in the above composites are discussed.  相似文献

Li‐rich layered oxides (LLOs) can deliver almost double the capacity of conventional electrode materials such as LiCoO2 and LiMn2O4; however, voltage fade and capacity degradation are major obstacles to the practical implementation of LLOs in high‐energy lithium‐ion batteries. Herein, hexagonal La0.8Sr0.2MnO3?y (LSM) is used as a protective and phase‐compatible surface layer to stabilize the Li‐rich layered Li1.2Ni0.13Co0.13Mn0.54O2 (LM) cathode material. The LSM is Mn? O? M bonded at the LSM/LM interface and functions by preventing the migration of metal ions in the LM associated with capacity degradation as well as enhancing the electrical transfer and ionic conductivity at the interface. The LSM‐coated LM delivers an enhanced reversible capacity of 202 mAh g?1 at 1 C (260 mA g?1) with excellent cycling stability and rate capability (94% capacity retention after 200 cycles and 144 mAh g?1 at 5 C). This work demonstrates that interfacial bonding between coating and bulk material is a successful strategy for the modification of LLO electrodes for the next‐generation of high‐energy Li‐ion batteries.  相似文献

Ni‐rich Li[NixCoyMn1?x?y]O2 (x ≥ 0.8) layered oxides are the most promising cathode materials for lithium‐ion batteries due to their high reversible capacity of over 200 mAh g?1. Unfortunately, the anisotropic properties associated with the α‐NaFeO2 structured crystal grains result in poor rate capability and insufficient cycle life. To address these issues, a micrometer‐sized Ni‐rich LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 secondary cathode material consisting of radially aligned single‐crystal primary particles is proposed and synthesized. Concomitant with this unique crystallographic texture, all the exposed surfaces are active {010} facets, and 3D Li+ ion diffusion channels penetrate straightforwardly from surface to center, remarkably improving the Li+ diffusion coefficient. Moreover, coordinated charge–discharge volume change upon cycling is achieved by the consistent crystal orientation, significantly alleviating the volume‐change‐induced intergrain stress. Accordingly, this material delivers superior reversible capacity (203.4 mAh g?1 at 3.0–4.3 V) and rate capability (152.7 mAh g?1 at a current density of 1000 mA g?1). Further, this structure demonstrates excellent cycling stability without any degradation after 300 cycles. The anisotropic morphology modulation provides a simple, efficient, and scalable way to boost the performance and applicability of Ni‐rich layered oxide cathode materials.  相似文献

Li‐rich layered materials are considered to be the promising low‐cost cathodes for lithium‐ion batteries but they suffer from poor rate capability despite of efforts toward surface coating or foreign dopings. Here, spinel‐layered Li‐rich Li‐Mn‐Co‐O microspheres are reported as a new high‐rate cathode material for Li‐ion batteries. The synthetic procedure is relatively simple, involving the formation of uniform carbonate precursor under solvothermal conditions and its subsequent transformation to an assembled microsphere that integrates a spinel‐like component with a layered component by a heat treatment. When calcined at 700 °C, the amount of transition metal Mn and Co in the Li‐Mn‐Co‐O microspheres maintained is similar to at 800 °C, while the structures of constituent particles partially transform from 2D to 3D channels. As a consequence, when tested as a cathode for lithium‐ion batteries, the spinel‐layered Li‐rich Li‐Mn‐Co‐O microspheres obtained at 700 °C show a maximum discharge capacity of 185.1 mA h g?1 at a very high current density of 1200 mA g?1 between 2.0 and 4.6 V. Such a capacity is among the highest reported to date at high charge‐discharge rates. Therefore, the present spinel‐layered Li‐rich Li‐Mn‐Co‐O microspheres represent an attractive alternative to high‐rate electrode materials for lithium‐ion batteries.  相似文献

Over the last decade, Na‐ion batteries have been extensively studied as low‐cost alternatives to Li‐ion batteries for large‐scale grid storage applications; however, the development of high‐energy positive electrodes remains a major challenge. Materials with a polyanionic framework, such as Na superionic conductor (NASICON)‐structured cathodes with formula NaxM2(PO4)3, have attracted considerable attention because of their stable 3D crystal structure and high operating potential. Herein, a novel NASICON‐type compound, Na4MnCr(PO4)3, is reported as a promising cathode material for Na‐ion batteries that deliver a high specific capacity of 130 mAh g?1 during discharge utilizing high‐voltage Mn2+/3+ (3.5 V), Mn3+/4+ (4.0 V), and Cr3+/4+ (4.35 V) transition metal redox. In addition, Na4MnCr(PO4)3 exhibits a high rate capability (97 mAh g?1 at 5 C) and excellent all‐temperature performance. In situ X‐ray diffraction and synchrotron X‐ray diffraction analyses reveal reversible structural evolution for both charge and discharge.  相似文献

In an attempt to overcome the problems associated with LiNiO2, the solid solution series of lithium nickel‐metal oxides, Li[Ni1–xMx]O2 (with M = Co, Mn, Al, Ti, Mg, etc.), have been investigated as favorable cathode materials for high‐energy and high‐power lithium‐ion batteries. However, along with the improvement in the electrochemical properties in Ni‐based cathode materials, the thermal stability has been a great concern, and thus violent reaction of the cathode with the electrolyte needs to be avoided. Here, we report a heterostructured Li[Ni0.54Co0.12Mn0.34]O2 cathode material which possesses both high energy and safety. The core of the particle is Li[Ni0.54Co0.12Mn0.34]O2 with a layered phase (R3‐m) and the shell, with a thickness of < 0.5 μm, is a highly stable Li1+x[CoNixMn2–x]2O4 spinel phase (Fd‐3m). The material demonstrates reversible capacity of 200 mAhg‐1 and retains 95% capacity retention under the most severe test condition of 60 °C. In addition, the amount of oxygen evolution from the lattice in the cathode with two heterostructures is reduced by 70%, compared to the reference sample. All these results suggest that the bulk Li[Ni0.54Co0.12Mn0.34]O2 consisting of two heterostructures satisfy the requirements for hybrid electric vehicles, power tools, and mobile electronics.  相似文献

Li2MnO3 is a critical component in the family of “Li‐excess” materials, which are attracting attention as advanced cathode materials for Li‐ion batteries. Here, first‐principle calculations are presented to investigate the electrochemical activity and structural stability of stoichiometric LixMnO3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 2) as a function of Li content. The Li2MnO3 structure is electrochemically activated above 4.5 V on delithiation and charge neutrality in the bulk of the material is mainly maintained by the oxidization of a portion of the oxygen ions from O2? to O1?. While oxygen vacancy formation is found to be thermodynamically favorable for x < 1, the activation barriers for O2? and O1? migration remain high throughout the Li composition range, impeding oxygen release from the bulk of the compound. Defect layered structures become thermodynamically favorable at lower Li content (x < 1), indicating a tendency towards the spinel‐like structure transformation. A critical phase transformation path for forming nuclei of spinel‐like domains within the matrix of the original layered structure is proposed. Formation of defect layered structures during the first charge is shown to manifest in a depression of the voltage profile on the first discharge, providing one possible explanation for the observed voltage fade of the Li‐excess materials.  相似文献

Subzero‐temperature Li‐ion batteries (LIBs) are highly important for specific energy storage applications. Although the nickel‐rich layered lithium transition metal oxides(LiNixCoyMnzO2) (LNCM) (x > 0.5, x + y +z = 1) are promising cathode materials for LIBs, their very slow Li‐ion diffusion is a main hurdle on the way to achieve high‐performance subzero‐temperature LIBs. Here, a class of low‐temperature organic/inorganic hybrid cathode materials for LIBs, prepared by grafting a conducting polymer coating on the surface of 3 µm sized LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2 (LNCM‐3) material particles via a greener diazonium soft‐chemistry method is reported. Specifically, LNCM‐3 particles are uniformly coated with a thin polyphenylene film via the spontaneous reaction between LNCM‐3 and C6H5N2+BF4?. Compared with the uncoated one, the polyphenylene‐coated LNCM‐3 (polyphenylene/LNCM‐3) has shown much improved low‐temperature discharge capacity (≈148 mAh g?1 at 0.1 C, ?20 °C), outstanding rate capability (≈105 mAh g?1 at 1 C, ?20 °C), and superior low‐temperature long‐term cycling stability (capacity retention is up to 90% at 0.5 C over 1150 cycles). The low‐temperature performance of polyphenylene/LNCM‐3 is the best among the reported state‐of‐the art cathode materials for LIBs. The present strategy opens up a new avenue to construct advanced cathode materials for wider range applications.  相似文献

Spinel cathodes comprising 16‐μm, AlPO4‐coated Li1.09Mn1.83Al0.08O4 with a high energy density of 1.2 W h cm‐3 are synthesized via a conventional solid‐state reaction using MnO2 and Li2CO3 at 770 °C for 10 h and using a solution‐based coating method in bulk scale (>20 kg). The cathodes are coated by aluminum phosphate at a thickness of <10 nm. The coated cathodes exhibit a first discharge capacity of 108 mA·h g‐1 and a coulombic efficiency of >99.8%, and their capacity retention is 78% after 200 cycles at a 0.5C rate in a Li‐ion cell under 60 °C. More importantly, a Li‐ion cell containing the coated cathode does not exhibit a swelling problem after 200 cycles at 60 °C. Transmission and scanning electron microscopy suggest that the uniformly distributed AlPO4 coating and the possible formation of a solid solution phase along the surface play key roles in enhancing the electrochemical performance of the LiMn2O4 spinel at 60 °C.  相似文献

Li‐rich layered metal oxides have attracted much attention for their high energy density but still endure severe capacity fading and voltage decay during cycling, especially at elevated temperature. Here, facile surface treatment of Li1.17Ni0.17Co0.17Mn0.5O2 (0.4Li2MnO3·0.6LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2) spherical cathode material is designed to address these drawbacks by hybrid surface protection layers composed of Mg2+ pillar and Li‐Mg‐PO4 layer. As a result, the surface coated Li‐rich cathode material exhibits much enhanced cycling stability at 60 °C, maintaining 72.6% capacity retention (180 mAh g?1) between 3.0 and 4.7 V after 250 cycles. More importantly, 88.7% average discharge voltage retention can be obtained after the rigorous cycle test. The strategy developed here with novel hydrid surface protection effect can provide a vital approach to inhibit the undesired side reactions and structural deterioration of Li‐rich cathode materials and may also be useful for other layered oxides to increase their cycling stability at elevated temperature.  相似文献

Various doped materials have been investigated to improve the structural stability of layered transition metal oxides for lithium‐ion batteries. Most doped materials are obtained through solid state methods, in which the doping of cations is not strictly site selective. This paper demonstrates, for the first time, an in situ electrochemical site‐selective doping process that selectively substitutes Li+ at Li sites in Mn‐rich layered oxides with Mg2+. Mg2+ cations are electrochemically intercalated into Li sites in delithiated Mn‐rich layered oxides, resulting in the formation of [Li1?xMgy][Mn1?zMz]O2 (M = Co and Ni). This Mg2+ intercalation is irreversible, leading to the favorable doping of Mg2+ at the Li sites. More interestingly, the amount of intercalated Mg2+ dopants increases with the increasing amount of Mn in Li1?x[Mn1?zMz]O2, which is attributed to the fact that the Mn‐to‐O electron transfer enhances the attractive interaction between Mg2+ dopants and electronegative Oδ? atoms. Moreover, Mg2+ at the Li sites in layered oxides suppresses cation mixing during cycling, resulting in markedly improved capacity retention over 200 cycles. The first‐principle calculations further clarify the role of Mg2+ in reduced cation mixing during cycling. The new concept of in situ electrochemical doping provides a new avenue for the development of various selectively doped materials.  相似文献

Olivine‐type LiMnPO4 (LMP) cathodes have gained enormous attraction for Li‐ion batteries (LIBs), thanks to their large theoretical capacity, high discharge platform, and thermal stability. However, it is still hugely challenging to achieve encouraging Li‐storage behaviors owing to their low electronic conductivity and limited lithium diffusion. Herein, the core double‐shell Ti‐doped LMP@NaTi2(PO4)3@C/3D graphene (TLMP@NTP@C/3D‐G) architecture is designed and constructed via an in situ synthetic methodology. A continuous electronic conducting network is formed with the unfolded 3D‐G and conducting carbon nanoshell. The Nasicon‐type NTP nanoshell with exceptional ionic conductivity efficiently inhibits gradual enrichment in by‐products, and renders low surfacial/interfacial electron/ion‐diffusion resistance. Besides, a rapid Li+ diffusion in the bulk structure is guaranteed with the reduction of MnLi+˙ antisite defects originating from the synchronous Ti‐doping. Benefiting from synergetic contributions from these design rationales, the integrated TLMP@NTP@C/3D‐G cathode yields high initial discharge capacity of ≈164.8 mAh g?1 at 0.05 C, high‐rate reversible capacity of ≈116.2 mAh g?1 at 10 C, and long‐term capacity retention of ≈93.3% after 600 cycles at 2 C. More significantly, the electrode design developed here will exert significant impact upon constructing other advanced cathodes for high‐energy/power LIBs.  相似文献

For the first time, environmentally friendly sulfur‐rich pyramidal MnS2 synthesized via a single‐step hydrothermal process is used as a high‐performance anode material in Li‐ion and Na‐ion batteries. The superior electrochemical performance of the MnS2 electrode along with its high compatibility with ether‐based electrolytes are analyzed in both half‐ and full‐cell configurations. The reversible capacities of ≈84 mAh g?1 and ≈74 mAh g?1 at a current density of 50 mA g?1 are retained in the Li‐ion and Na‐ion full‐cells, respectively, over 200 cycles with excellent capacity retentions. Moreover, important findings regarding activation processes in the presence of a new phase transition and protective electrolyte interphase layer are revealed using ab initio density function theory calculation and in situ potentio‐electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The detailed complex redox mechanism of MnS2 in Li/Na half‐cells is also elucidated by ex situ X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy.  相似文献

The irreversible loss of lithium from the cathode material during the first cycles of rechargeable Li‐ion batteries notably reduces the overall cell capacity. Here, a new family of sacrificial cathode additives based on Li2O:Li2/3Mn1/3O5/6 composites synthesized by mechanochemical alloying is reported. These nanocomposites display record (but irreversible) capacities within the Li–Mn–O systems studied, of up to 1157 mAh g?1, which represents an increase of over 300% of the originally reported capacity in Li2/3Mn1/3O5/6 disordered rock salts. Such a high irreversible capacity is achieved by the reaction between Li2O and Li2/3Mn1/3O5/6 during the first charge, where electrochemically active Li2O acts as a Li+ donor. A 13% increase of the LiFePO4 and LiCoO2 first charge gravimetric capacities is demonstrated by the addition of only 2 wt% of the nanosized composite in the cathode mixture. This result shows the great potential of these newly discovered sacrificial additives to counteract initial losses of Li+ ions and improve battery performance.  相似文献

Nickel sulfides are regarded as promising anode materials for advanced rechargeable lithium‐ion batteries due to their high theoretical capacity. However, capacity fade arising from significant volume changes during operation greatly limits their practical applications. Herein, confined NiSx@C yolk–shell microboxes are constructed to address volume changes and confine the active material in the internal void space. Having benefited from the yolk–shell structure design, the prepared NiSx@C yolk–shell microboxes display excellent electrochemical performance in lithium‐ion batteries. Particularly, it delivers impressive cycle stability (460 mAh g?1 after 2000 cycles at 1 A g?1) and superior rate performance (225 mAh g?1 at 20 A g?1). Furthermore, the lithium storage mechanism is ascertained with in situ synchrotron high‐energy X‐ray diffractions and in situ electrochemical impedance spectra. This unique confined yolk–shell structure may open up new strategies to create other advanced electrode materials for high performance electrochemical storage systems.  相似文献

Lithium alanates exhibit high theoretical specific capacities and appropriate lithiation/delithiation potentials, but suffer from poor reversibility, cycling stability, and rate capability due to their sluggish kinetics and extensive side reactions. Herein, a novel and facile solid‐state prelithiation approach is proposed to in situ prepare a Li3AlH6‐Al nanocomposite from a short‐circuited electrochemical reaction between LiAlH4 and Li with the help of fast electron and Li‐ion conductors (C and P63mc LiBH4). This nanocomposite consists of dispersive Al nanograins and an amorphous Li3AlH6 matrix, which enables superior electrochemical performance in solid‐state cells, as much higher specific capacity (2266 mAh g?1), Coulombic efficiency (88%), cycling stability (71% retention in the 100th cycle), and rate capability (1429 mAh g?1 at 1 A g?1) are achieved. In addition, this nanocomposite works well in the solid‐state full cell with LiCoO2 cathode, demonstrating its promising application prospects. Mechanism analysis reveals that the dispersive Al nanograins and amorphous Li3AlH6 matrix can dramatically enhance the lithiation and delithiation kinetics without side reactions, which is mainly responsible for the excellent overall performance. Moreover, this solid‐state prelithiation approach is general and can also be applied to other Li‐poor electrode materials for further modification of their electrochemical behavior.  相似文献

The eco‐friendly and low‐cost Co‐free Li1.2Mn0.585Ni0.185Fe0.03O2 is investigated as a positive material for Li‐ion batteries. The electrochemical performance of the 3 at% Fe‐doped material exhibits an optimal performance with a capacity and voltage retention of 70 and 95%, respectively, after 200 cycles at 1C. The effect of iron doping on the electrochemical properties of lithium‐rich layered materials is investigated by means of in situ X‐ray diffraction spectroscopy and galvanostatic intermittent titration technique during the first charge–discharge cycle while high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy is used to follow the structural and chemical change of the electrode material upon long‐term cycling. By means of these characterizations it is concluded that iron doping is a suitable approach for replacing cobalt while mitigating the voltage and capacity degradation of lithium‐rich layered materials. Finally, complete lithium‐ion cells employing Li1.2Mn0.585Ni0.185Fe0.03O2 and graphite show a specific energy of 361 Wh kg?1 at 0.1C rate and very stable performance upon cycling, retaining more than 80% of their initial capacity after 200 cycles at 1C rate. These results highlight the bright prospects of this material to meet the high energy density requirements for electric vehicles.  相似文献

Layered lithium–nickel–cobalt–manganese oxide (NCM) materials have emerged as promising alternative cathode materials owing to their high energy density and electrochemical stability. Although high reversible capacity has been achieved for Ni‐rich NCM materials when charged beyond 4.2 V versus Li+/Li, full lithium utilization is hindered by the pronounced structural degradation and electrolyte decomposition. Herein, the unexpected realization of sustained working voltage as well as improved electrochemical performance upon electrochemical cycling at a high operating voltage of 4.9 V in the Ni‐rich NCM LiNi0.895Co0.085Mn0.02O2 is presented. The improved electrochemical performance at a high working voltage at 4.9 V is attributed to the removal of the resistive Ni2+O rock‐salt surface layer, which stabilizes the voltage profile and improves retention of the energy density during electrochemical cycling. The manifestation of the layered Ni2+O rock‐salt phase along with the structural evolution related to the metal dissolution are probed using in situ X‐ray diffraction, neutron diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and X‐ray absorption spectroscopy. The findings help unravel the structural complexities associated with high working voltages and offer insight for the design of advanced battery materials, enabling the realization of fully reversible lithium extraction in Ni‐rich NCM materials.  相似文献

The Li‐rich cathode materials have been considered as one of the most promising cathodes for high energy Li‐ion batteries. However, realization of these materials for use in Li‐ion batteries is currently limited by their intrinsic problems. To overcome this barrier, a new surface treatment concept is proposed in which a hybrid surface layer composed of a reduced graphene oxide (rGO) coating and a chemically activated layer is created. A few layers of GO are first coated on the surface of the Li‐rich cathode material, followed by a hydrazine treatment to produce the reducing agent of GO and the chemical activator of the Li2MnO3 phase. Compared to previous studies, this surface treatment provides substantially improved electrochemical performance in terms of initial Coulombic effiency and retention of discharge voltage. As a result, the surface‐treated 0.4Li2MnO3–0.6LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 exhibits a high capacity efficiency of 99.5% during the first cycle a the discharge capacity of 250 mAh g?1 (2.0–4.6 V under 0.1C), 94.6% discharge voltage retention during 100 cycles (1C) and the superior capacity retention of 60% at 12C at 24 °C.  相似文献
