Twelve normal men performed 1-min incremental exercise tests to exhaustion in approximately 10 min on both treadmill and cycle ergometer. The maximal O2 uptake (VO2 max) and anaerobic threshold (AT) were higher (6 and 13%, respectively) on the treadmill than the cycle; the AT was reached at about 50% of VO2 max on both ergometers. Maximal CO2 output, heart rate, and O2 pulse were also slightly, but significantly higher on the treadmill. Maximal ventilation, gas exchange ratio, and ventilatory equivalents for O2 and CO2 for both forms of exercise were not significantly different. To determine the optimum exercise test for both treadmill and cycle, we exercised five of the subjects at various work rate increments on both ergometers in a randomized design. The treadmill increments were 0.8, 1.7, 2.5, and 4.2%/min at a constant speed of 3.4 mph, and 1.7 and 4.2%/min at 4.5 mph. Cycle increments were 15, 30, and 60 W/min. The VO2 max was significantly higher on tests where the increment magnitude was large enough to induce test durations of 8-17 min, but the AT was independent of test duration. Thus, for evaluating cardiopulmonary function with incremental exercise testing by either treadmill or cycle, we suggest selecting a work rate increment to bring the subject to the limit of his tolerance in about 10 min.  相似文献

The effect of slightly lowered body temperature on endurance time and possibly related physiological factors was studied in seven male volunteers exercising on a cycle ergometer at an ambient temperature (Ta) of 18 degrees C. Work load was increased to 40% in a stepwise manner (phase I, min 0-16) followed by a period at 80% of peak oxygen consumption (VO2) sustained to exhaustion. On one day, exercise was preceded by a double cold exposure (precooling test, PRET), resulting in a 204-kJ/m2 negative heat storage and a 4 and 0.2 degrees C lower mean skin and core temperature at the start of exercise compared with the control test (CONT). Core temperature dropped further during exercise in PRET. Endurance time at 80% of peak VO2 was increased by 12% (P less than 0.05) in PRET. Heart rate (HR) was decreased throughout PRET (P less than 0.05); oxygen pulse and arteriovenous O2 difference were significantly increased in phase I of PRET, whereas the PRET-CONT differences in stroke volume and cardiac output were not significant. In phase II of PRET (min 16-28, heavy exercise) sweat rate (SR) and heat conductivity, indicating forearm blood flow, were lower (-39%, P less than 0.001; -37%). Pedal rate (PR) was 9% lower (P less than 0.01) in phase II of PRET. At the termination of exercise, PRET-CONT differences in HR, SR, and PR had disappeared.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to investigate whether part of the ammonia formed during muscular exercise was excreted with the sweat. Male medical students volunteered for the experiment. They exercised 30 min on a bicycle ergometer at 80 and 40% of the predetermined maximal O2 uptake (VO2max). Exercise at 80% VO2max was performed twice, at room temperature (20 degrees C) and in a cold room (0 degrees C), whereas exercise at 40% was performed only at room temperature (20 degrees C). Blood was collected from the antecubital vein immediately before and after exercise. Sweat was collected from the hypogastric region by use of gauze pads. It was shown that the plasma ammonia level was elevated after exercise at 80% VO2max and remained stable after exercise at 40% VO2max. The volume of sweat produced during exercise at 80% VO2max at 20 degrees C was 428 +/- 138 ml and at 0 degrees C 245 +/- 86 ml and during exercise at 40% VO2max was 183 +/- 69 ml. The ammonia concentration in the sweat after exercise at 80% VO2max at 20 degrees C was 7,140 mumol/l and at 0 degrees C 11,816 mumol/l. After exercise at 40% VO2max, it was 2,076 mumol/l. The total ammonia lost through the sweat during exercise at 80% VO2max was similar at both temperatures, despite the difference in the sweat volume (at 20 degrees C, 3,360 +/- 2,080 mumol; at 0 degrees C, 3,310 +/- 1,250 mumol). During exercise at 40% VO2max, it was 350 +/- 230 mumol. These results show that part of ammonia formed during exercise is lost with sweat. The amount lost increases with increased work rate and the plasma ammonia concentration.  相似文献

Circulating atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) level was determined during physical exercise to investigate the correlation between changes in ANP level and heart rate increases. Six subjects exercised at a work level of 75% VO2max for 30 min, two also performed two successive exercises at 75% VO2max while two more exercised for longer at 55% VO2max. Plasma ANP levels and heart rate increased in all the exercising subjects. At the end of the exercise, the ANP level fell immediately, suggesting an immediate reduction in ANP secretion by the heart. Pre-exercise values were reached after 30 min. Successive exercises gave the same heart rate related ANP patterns without previous secretory episodes having any effect. These results lead to the conclusion that ANP intervenes in the cardiovascular adjustments to exercise.  相似文献

Whether the use of pre-exercise hyperhydration could improve the performance of athletes who do not hydrate sufficiently during prolonged exercise is still unknown. We therefore compared the effects of pre-exercise hyperhydration and pre-exercise euhydration on endurance capacity, peak power output and selected components of the cardiovascular and thermoregulatory systems during prolonged cycling. Using a randomized, crossover experimental design, 6 endurance-trained subjects underwent a pre-exercise hyperhydration (26 ml of water x kg body mass(-1) with 1.2 g glycerol x kg body mass(-1)) or pre-exercise euhydration period of 80 min, followed by 2 h of cycling at 65% maximal oxygen consumption (VO(.)2max) (26-27 degrees C) that were interspersed by 5, 2-min intervals performed at 80% V(.)O2max. Following the 2 h cycling exercise, subjects underwent an incremental cycling test to exhaustion. Pre-exercise hyperhydration increased body water by 16.1+/-2.2 ml.kg body mass(-1). During exercise, subjects received 12.5 ml of sports drink x kg body mass(-1). With pre-exercise hyperhydration and pre-exercise euhydration, respectively, fluid ingestion during exercise replaced 31.0+/-2.9% and 37.1+/-6.8% of sweat losses (p>0.05). Body mass loss at the end of exercise reached 1.7+/-0.3% with pre-exercise hyperhydration and 3.3+/-0.4% with pre-exercise euhydration (p<0.05). During the 2 h of cycling, pre-exercise hyperhydration significantly decreased heart rate and perceived thirst, but rectal temperature, sweat rate, perceived exertion and perceived heat-stress did not differ between conditions. Pre-exercise hyperhydration significantly increased time to exhaustion and peak power output, compared with pre-exercise euhydration. We conclude that pre-exercise hyperhydration improves endurance capacity and peak power output and decreases heart rate and thirst sensation, but does not reduce rectal temperature during 2 h of moderate to intense cycling in a moderate environment when fluid consumption is 33% of sweat losses.  相似文献

This study was designed to examine the effects of alterations in dietary carbohydrate (CHO) intake on the performance of high-intensity exercise lasting approximately 10 min (EXP 1) and 30 min (EXP 2). Trained subjects exercised to exhaustion on four occasions on a cycle ergometer at 90% of maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max; EXP 1, n = 5) and 80% of VO2max (EXP 2, n = 7). The first two tests were familiarisation trials and were carried out following the subjects' normal diet. Normal training was continued but standardised during the periods of dietary control. The subsequent two tests were performed 2 weeks apart after 7 days of dietary manipulation. The two diets were a 70% and a 40% CHO diet, isoenergetic with each subject's normal diet and administered in a randomised order. At both exercise intensities, time to exhaustion following the high CHO and low CHO diets was not different [mean (SD) EXP 1: 11.56 (3.78) min and 8.95 (2.35) min, P = 0.22; EXP 2: 26.9 (7.4) min and 26.5 (6.5) min, P = 0.90]. No differences in resting blood metabolite concentrations were found apart from a lower beta-hydroxybutyrate (beta-HB) level following the high CHO diet in EXP 2. Blood lactate was higher after exercise at 90% of VO2max following the high CHO diet. Blood lactate was higher, and beta-HB lower during exercise at 80% of VO2max following the high CHO diet. No differences were found in the other blood metabolites tested. The respiratory exchange ratio after 15 min of exercise at 80% of VO2max was higher on the high CHO diet. No differences in oxygen uptake, heart rate (EXP 2) or ratings of perceived exertion (both experiments) were found between conditions. These results indicate that moderate changes in diet composition during training do not affect the performance of high-intensity exercise in trained individuals when the total energy intake is moderately high.  相似文献

Oxygen consumption and metabolic strain in rowing ergometer exercise   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Oxygen consumption (VO2) when rowing was determined on a mechanically braked rowing ergometer (RE) with an electronic measuring device. VO2 was measured by an open spirometric system. The pneumotachograph valve was fixed to the sliding seat, thus reducing movement artefacts. A multi-stage test was performed, beginning with a work load of 150 W and increasing by 50 W every 2 minutes up to exhaustion. Serum lactate concentrations were determined in a 30 s break between the work stages. 61 examinations of oarsmen performing at maximum power of 5 W X kg-1 or more were analysed VO2 and heart rate (HR) for each working stage were measured and the regression line of VO2 on the work load (P) and an estimation error (Sxy) were calculated: VO2 = 12.5 X P + 415.2 (ml X min-1) (Sxy = +/- 337 ml, r = 0.98) Good reproducibility was found in repeated examinations. Similar spiroergometry was carried out on a bicycle ergometer (BE) with 10 well trained rowers and 6 trained cyclists. VO2 of rowing was about 600 ml X min-1 higher than for bicycling in the submaximal stages for both groups. The VO2max of RE exercise was 2.6% higher than for oarsmen on BE, and the cyclists reached a greater VO2 on BE than the oarsmen. No differences were found between RE and BE exercise heart rate. The net work efficiency when rowing was 19% for both groups, experienced and inexperienced: when cycling it was 25% for cyclists and 23% for oarsmen.  相似文献

Exercise performed above the lactate threshold (OLa) produces a slowly-developing phase of oxygen uptake (VO2) kinetics which elevates VO2 above that predicted from the sub-OLa VO2-work rate relationship. This phenomenon has only been demonstrated, to date, in subjects who were relatively homogeneous with respect to fitness. This investigation therefore examined whether this behaviour occurred at a given absolute VO2 or whether it was a characteristic of supra-OLa exercise in a group of subjects with over a threefold range of OLa (990-3000 ml O2.min-1) and peak VO2 (1600-5260 ml O2.min-1). Twelve healthy subjects performed: 1) exhausting incremental cycle ergometer exercise for estimation of OLa (OLa) and peak VO2, and 11) a series of constant-load tests above and below OLa for determination of the VO2 profile and efficiency of work. During all tests expired ventilation, VO2 and carbon dioxide production were monitored breath-by-breath. The efficiency of work determined during incremental exercise (28.1 +/- 0.7%, means +/- SE, n = 12) did not differ from that determined during sub-OLa constant-load exercise (27.4 +/- 0.5%, p greater than 0.05). For constant-load exercise, VO2 rose above that predicted, from the sub-OLa VO2-work rate relationship, for all supra-OLa work rates. This was evident above 990 ml O2.min-1 in the least fit subject but only above 3000 ml O2.min-1 in the fittest subject. As a consequence the efficiency of work was reduced from 27.4 +/- 0.5% for sub-OLa exercise to 22.6 +/- 0.4% (p less than 0.05) at the lowest supra-OLa work rate (i.e. OLa + 20 W, on average).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Seven trained male cyclists (VO2max = 4.42 +/- 0.23 l.min-1; weight 71.7 +/- 2.7 kg, mean +/- SE) completed two incremental cycling tests on the cycle ergometer for the estimation of the "individual anaerobic threshold" (IAT). The cyclists completed three more exercises in which the work rate incremented by the same protocol, but upon reaching selected work rates of approximately 40, 60 and 80% VO2max, the subjects cycled for 60 min or until exhaustion. In these constant load studies, blood lactate concentration was determined on arterialized venous ([La-]av) and deep venous blood ([La-]v) of the resting forearm. The av-v lactate gradient across the inactive forearm muscle was -0.08 mmol.l-1 at rest. After 3 min at each of the constant load work rates, the gradients were +0.05, +0.65* and +1.60* mmol.l-1 (*P less than 0.05). The gradients after 10 min at these same work rates were -0.09, +0.24 and +1.03* mmol.l-1. For the two highest work rates taken together, the lactate gradient was less at 10 min than 3 min constant load exercise (P less than 0.05). The [La-]av was consistently higher during prolonged exercise at both 60 and 80% VO2max than that observed at the same work rate during progressive exercise. At the highest work rate (at or above the IAT), time to exhaustion ranged from 3 to 36 min in the different subjects. These data showed that [La-] uptake across resting muscle continued to increase to work rates above the IAT. Further, the greater av-v lactate gradient at 3 min than 10 min constant load exercise supports the concept that inactive muscle might act as a passive sink for lactate in addition to a metabolic site.  相似文献

Edvardsen, E, Ingjer, F, and B?, K. Fit women are not able to use the whole aerobic capacity during aerobic dance. J Strength Cond Res 25(12): 3479-3485, 2011-This study compared the aerobic capacity during maximal aerobic dance and treadmill running in fit women. Thirteen well-trained female aerobic dance instructors aged 30 ± 8.17 years (mean ± SD) exercised to exhaustion by running on a treadmill for measurement of maximal oxygen uptake (VO(2)max) and peak heart rate (HRpeak). Additionally, all subjects performed aerobic dancing until exhaustion after a choreographed videotaped routine trying to reach the same HRpeak as during maximal running. The p value for statistical significance between running and aerobic dance was set to ≤0.05. The results (mean ± SD) showed a lower VO(2)max in aerobic dance (52.2 ± 4.02 ml·kg·min) compared with treadmill running (55.9 ± 5.03 ml·kg·min) (p = 0.0003). Further, the mean ± SD HRpeak was 182 ± 9.15 b·min in aerobic dance and 192 ± 9.62 b·min in treadmill running, giving no difference in oxygen pulse between the 2 exercise forms (p = 0.32). There was no difference in peak ventilation (aerobic dance: 108 ± 10.81 L·min vs. running: 113 ± 11.49 L·min). In conclusion, aerobic dance does not seem to be able to use the whole aerobic capacity as in running. For well endurance-trained women, this may result in a lower total workload at maximal intensities. Aerobic dance may therefore not be as suitable as running during maximal intensities in well-trained females.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that bicycle training may improve the relationship between the global SEMG energy and VO2. We already showed close adjustment of the root mean square (RMS) of the surface electromyogram (SEMG) to the oxygen uptake (VO2) during cycling exercise in untrained subjects. Because in these circumstances an altered neuromuscular transmission which could affect SEMG measurement occurred in untrained individuals only, we searched for differences in the SEMG vs. VO2 relationship between untrained subjects and well-trained cyclists. Each subject first performed an incremental exercise to determine VO2max and the ventilatory threshold, and second a constant-load threshold cycling exercise, continued until exhaustion. SEMG from both vastus lateralis muscles was continuously recorded. RMS was computed. M-Wave was periodically recorded. During incremental exercise: (1) a significant non-linear positive correlation was found between RMS increase and VO2 increase in untrained subjects, whereas the relationship was best fitted by a straight line in trained cyclists; (2) the RMS/VO2 ratio decreased progressively throughout the incremental exercise, its decline being significantly and markedly accentuated in trained cyclists; (3) in untrained subjects, significant M-wave alterations occurred at the end of the trial. These M-wave alterations could explain the non-linear RMS increase in these individuals. During constant-load exercise: (1) after an initial increase, the VO2 ratio decreased progressively to reach a plateau after 2 min of exercise, but no significant inter-group differences were noted; (2) no M-wave changes were measured in the two groups. We concluded that the global SEMG energy recorded from the vastus lateralis muscle is a good estimate of metabolic energy expenditure during incremental cycling exercise only in well-trained cyclists.  相似文献

Six trained male cyclists and six untrained but physically active men participated in this study to test the hypothesis that the use of percentage maximal oxygen consumption (%VO2max) as a normalising independent variable is valid despite significant differences in the absolute VO2max of trained and untrained subjects. The subjects underwent an exercise test to exhaustion on a cycle ergometer to determine VO2max and lactate threshold. The subjects were grouped as trained (T) if their VO2max exceeded 60 ml.kg-1.min-1, and untrained (UT) if their VO2max was less than 50 ml.kg-1.min-1. The subjects were required to exercise on the ergometer for up to 40 min at power outputs that corresponded to approximately 50% and 70% VO2max. The allocation of each exercise session (50% or 70% VO2max) was random and each session was separated by at least 5 days. During these tests venous blood was taken 10 min before exercise (- 10 min), just prior to the commencement of exercise (0 min), after 20 min of exercise (20 min), at the end of exercise and 10 min postexercise (+ 10 min) and analysed for concentrations of cortisol, [Na+], [K+], [Cl-], glucose, free fatty acid, lactate [la-], [NH3], haemoglobin [Hb] and for packed cell volume. The oxygen consumption (VO2) and related variables were measured at two time intervals (14-15 and 34-35 min) during the prolonged exercise tests. Rectal temperature was measured throughout both exercise sessions. Slow upward drift of VO2 during constant-load cycling in untrained subjects   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The oxygen uptake kinetics during constant-load exercise when sitting on a bicycle ergometer were determined in 7 untrained subjects by measuring breath-by-breath VO2 during continuous exercise to volitional exhaustion (mean endurance time = 1160 +/- 172 s) at a pedal frequency of 70 revolutions.min-1. The power output, averaging 189.5 W, was set at 82.5% of that eliciting the individual VO2max during a 5 min incremental exercise test. Throughout the exercise period, the VO2 kinetics could be appropriately described by a two-component exponential equation of the form: VO2(t) = Ya[1 - exp(-kat)] + Yb[1 - exp(-kbt)] where VO2 is net oxygen consumption and t the time from work onset. VO2 measured at the end of exercise was close to VO2max (98% VO2max) and the mean values of Ya, ka, Yb and kb amounted to 1195 ml O2.min-1, 0.034 s-1, 1562 ml O2.min-1, and 0.005 s-1 respectively. The initial rate of increase in VO2 predicted from the above equation is slower than that calculated, for the same work intensity, on the basis of the data obtained by Morton (1985) in trained subjects. Seven lean and five obese boys, aged 9-12 yr, exercised in four environments: 21.1, 26.7, 29.4, and 32.2 degrees C Teff. Subjects walked on a treadmill at 4.8 km/h, 5% grade for three 20-min exercise bouts separated by 5-min rest periods. Rectal temperature (Tre), skin temperature (Tsk), heart rate (HR), sweat rate, and oxygen uptake (VO2) were measured periodically throughout the session. Lean boys had lower Tre and HR than obese boys in each of the environments. Increases in Tre were significantly greater for the obese at 26.7 and 29.4 degrees C Teff. No significant differences in Tsk and sweat rate (g-m-2-h-1) were observed between lean and obese boys. Obese boys had significantly lower oxygen consumptions per kg but worked at a significantly higher percentage of VO2max than lean boys when performing submaximal work. Responses of the obese boys to exercise in the heat were similar to those of heavy prepubertal girls studied previously, except that the boys were more tolerant of exercise at 32.2 degrees C Teff than the girls. Lean boys had lower HR than lean girls in each environment, but lower Tre only at 32.2 degrees C Teff.  相似文献

We investigated arm perfusion and metabolism during upper body exercise. Eight average, fit subjects and seven rowers, mean +/- SE maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max) 157 +/- 7 and 223 +/- 14 ml O2. kg(-0.73).min(-1), respectively, performed incremental arm cranking to exhaustion. Arm blood flow (ABF) was measured with thermodilution and arm muscle mass was estimated by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. During maximal arm cranking, pulmonary VO2 was approximately 45% higher in the rowers compared with the untrained subjects and peak ABF was 6.44 +/- 0.40 and 4.55 +/- 0.26 l/min, respectively (P < 0.05). The arm muscle mass for the rowers and the untrained subjects was 3.5 +/- 0.4 and 3.3 +/- 0.1 kg, i.e., arm perfusion was 1.9 +/- 0.2 and 1.4 +/- 0.1 l blood.kg(-1).min(-1), respectively (P < 0.05). The arteriovenous O2 difference was 156 +/- 7 and 120 +/- 8 ml/l, respectively, and arm VO2 was 0.98 +/- 0.08 and 0.60 +/- 0.04 l/min corresponding with 281 +/- 22 and 181 +/- 12 ml/kg, while arm O(2) diffusional conductance was 49.9 +/- 4.3 and 18.6 +/- 3.2 ml.min(-1).mmHg(-1), respectively (P < 0.05). Also, lactate release in the rowers was almost three times higher than in the untrained subjects (26.4 +/- 1.1 vs. 9.5 +/- 0.4 mmol/min, P < 0.05). The energy requirement of an approximately 50% larger arm work capacity after long-term arm endurance training is covered by an approximately 60% increase in aerobic metabolism and an almost tripling of the anaerobic capacity.  相似文献

The first purpose of this study was to assess the eventual training adaptations in the time to exhaustion at the same severe velocity occurring after severe interval-training programs in few- and well-trained subjects. In the event of such training adaptations, the second purpose was to identify the discriminant factors of performance improvement according to the initial training status. Seven few- and six well-trained subjects performed: firstly, an incremental test to determine the maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max), the energy cost of running (ECR), the velocity associated with the achievement of VO2max (vVO2max) and the lactate threshold (LT expressed in VO2, km x h(-1), % vVO2max); secondly, an all-out test at the velocity corresponding to the midway between vLT and vVO2max (vdelta50) to determine the time to exhaustion (tmax); such tests were carried out before and after 4- and 8-week severe interval-training programs. In the few-trained subjects, all factors of performance (i.e., VO2max, ECR, vVO2max, LT expressed in VO2, km x h(-1), % vVO2max) and tmax at the pre-training vdelta50 were improved after training (+8, -8, +7, +9, +14, +6% and +79%, respectively); only the increase in vLT was related to the one in tmax (r = 0.714, p < or = 0.05, n = 7). In the well-trained subjects, only vVO2max was improved (+3%) due to the decrease in ECR (-3%), tmax at the pre-training vdelta50 did not vary after training; only the three subjects (over six) who improved their vLT (+0.5, +0.5, +0.8 km x h(-1), respectively) improved their tmax (+10, +24, +101%, respectively) (r = 0.895, p < or = 0.01, n = 6). So, whichever the initial training status, any training-induced adaptation in vLT appeared as a major factor of performance improvement especially at supra-LT velocities.  相似文献

This investigation was designed to determine the relationship between the levels of plasma aldosterone and eccrine sweat gland sodium excretion following exercise and heat acclimation. Ten subjects exercised at 45% of their maximal O2 uptake in a hot (40 degrees C), moderately humid (45% relative humidity) environment for 2 h/day on ten consecutive days. Acclimation was verified by significant reductions in exercise heart rate, rectal temperature, and heat storage, as well as significant elevation of resting plasma volume (12%, P less than 0.05) and exercise sweat rate on day 10 compared with day 1 of acclimation. During exercise, the concentration and total content of sodium in sweat as well as plasma aldosterone were significantly decreased from day 1 to day 10. The ratio of sweat sodium reabsorbed to plasma aldosterone concentration was significantly increased from day 1 to day 10 after both 1 and 2 h of exercise. These data indicate that plasma aldosterone concentrations decrease following heat acclimation; and eccrine gland responsiveness to aldosterone, as represented by sweat sodium reabsorption, may be augumented through exercise and heat acclimation.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to quantify the exercise response of older subjects on a time-to-fatigue (TTF) submaximal performance test before and after a training program. Eight older men (67.4 +/- 4.8 yr) performed two maximal treadmill tests to determine maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max) and ventilation threshold (TVE) and a constant-load submaximal exercise treadmill test that required an oxygen uptake (VO2) between TVE and VO2max. The submaximal test, performed at the same absolute work rate before and after the training program, was performed to volitional fatigue to measure endurance time. The men trained under supervision at an individualized pace representing approximately 70% of VO2max (80% maximum heart rate) for 1 h, four times per week for 9 wk. Significant increases were demonstrated for VO2max (ml.kg-1.min-1; 10.6%); maximal ventilation (VE, l/min; 11.6%), and TVE (l/min; 9.8%). Weight decreased 2.1%. Performance time on the TTF test increased by 180% (7.3 +/- 3.0 to 20.4 +/- 13.5 min). The similar end points for VO2, VE, and heart rate during the TTF and maximal treadmill tests established that the TTF test was stopped because of physiological limitations. The increase in performance time among the subjects was significantly correlated with improvements in VO2max and TVE, with the submaximal work rate representing a VO2 above TVE by 88% of the difference between TVE and VO2max pretraining and 73% of this difference on posttraining values.  相似文献

We tested the hypothesis that the work of the heart was not a limiting factor in the attainment of maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max). We measured cardiac output (Q) and blood pressures (BP) during exercise at two different rates of maximal work to estimate the work of the heart through calculation of the rate-pressure product, as a part of the ongoing discussion regarding factors limiting VO2 max. Eight well-trained men (age 24.4 +/- 2.8 yr, weight 81.3 +/- 7.8 kg, and VO2 max 59.1 +/- 2.0 ml x min(-1) x kg(-1)) performed two maximal combined arm and leg exercises, differing 10% in watts, with average duration of time to exhaustion of 4 min 50 s and 3 min 40 s, respectively. There were no differences between work rates in measured VO2 max, maximal Q, and peak heart rate between work rates (0.02 l/min, 0.3 l/min, and 0.8 beats/min, respectively), but the systolic, diastolic, and calculated mean BP were significantly higher (19, 5, and 10 mmHg, respectively) in the higher than in the lower maximal work rate. The products of heart rate times systolic or mean BP and Q times systolic or mean BP were significantly higher (3,715, 1,780, 569, and 1,780, respectively) during the higher than the lower work rate. Differences in these four products indicate a higher mechanical work of the heart on higher than lower maximal work rate. Therefore, this study does not support the theory, which states that the work of the heart, and consequently VO2 max, during maximal exercise is hindered by a command from the central nervous system aiming at protecting the heart from being ischemic.  相似文献

To assess exercise energy metabolism of forearm flexor muscles in rowers, six male student rowers and six control subjects matched for age and sex were studied using phosphorus-31 magnetic resonance spectroscopy (31P-MRS). Firstly, to adjust for the effect of differences in cross-sectional muscle area, the maximal cross-sectional area (CSAmax) of the forearm flexor muscles was estimated in each individual using magnetic resonance imaging. Multistage exercise was then carried out with an initial energy production of 1 J.cm-2 CSAmax for 1 min and an increment of 1 J.cm-2 CSAmax every minute to the point of muscle exhaustion. A series of measurements of 31P-MRS were performed every minute. The CSAmax was significantly greater in the student rowers than in the control subjects [19.8 (SD 2.2) vs 17.1 (SD 1.2) cm2, P less than 0.05]. The absolute maximal exercise intensity (J.min-1) was greater in the rowers than in the control subjects. However, the maximal exercise intensity per unit of muscle cross sectional area (J.min-1.cm-2) was not significantly different between the two groups. During mild to moderate exercise intensities, a decrease in phosphocreatine and an increase in inorganic phosphate before the onset of acidosis were significantly less in the rowers, indicating a requirement of less adenosine 5'-diphosphate to drive adenosine 5'-triphosphate production. The onset of acidosis was also significantly delayed in the rowers.
