The growth and mortality of brushtooth lizardfish Saurida undosquamis (Richardson, 1848) in Iskenderun Bay (eastern Mediterranean Sea) were investigated based on length frequency data using the fisat software. Total length of the sampled 4711 fish ranged from 6.0 to 39.0 cm. The von Bertalanffy growth function estimates were L = 42.00 cm, k = 0.51 year‐1, t0 = −0.29 years. Total mortality rate (Z) was computed as 1.76 year‐1 and the exploitation ratio was 0.51, indicating that the brushtooth lizardfish stock is on the verge being overfished.  相似文献

The age, growth, reproduction, and feeding of longnosed skate (Dipturus oxyrinchus) were studied using 179 specimens from the Saros Bay (North Aegean Sea) between March 2005 and December 2007. Composition was 49.7% females and 50.3% males. Total length of females ranged from 14.9 to 100 cm (disc width, 9.8–65 cm), and of males from 15.2 to 86.5 cm (disc width, 10–57.5 cm). Total length‐weight and disc width‐weight relationships are described by the equations W = 0.0008*TL3.35 and W = 0.0043*DW3.29, respectively. The age data, derived from vertebrae readings, were used to estimate the growth parameters of the von Bertalanffy equation: L = 256.46 cm, K = 0.04 year?1, t0 = ?1.17year. The maximum age was 9 years. Males matured at 64–65 cm (disc width, 43.5 cm) and females at 82–83 cm TL (disc width, 53 cm). The stomach contained mainly Parapenaus longirostris, IRI: 93.47%.  相似文献

Age and growth of the hollowsnout grenadier was studied based on samples collected seasonally in the Agean Sea between March 2003 and January 2004. Total length ranged from 9.0 to 21.6 cm. Length–weight relationship was described as a = 0.0032, and b = 3.008. Age determinations based on otolith readings were between 1 and 10 years. The von Bertalanffy growth curve fitted to observed lengths‐at‐age provided parameters of L = 24.9 cm, k = 0.115 and to = ?3.494.  相似文献

Age, growth and mortality were analysed for brown comber, Serranus hepatus, collected in the eastern Adriatic from May 2002 to June 2003. Fish aged 2–7 years were present in the samples. Growth in length including both sexes was expressed using the von Bertalanffy equation, L = 14.82, K = 0.217 and t0 = −1.672. Age class 2, ranging in length from 5.8 to 9.0 cm TL, dominated the sample (29.3%). Total and natural mortality were Z = 1.73 year−1 and M = 0.63 year−1, respectively. The exploitation rate, E = 0.64, revealed a high fishing pressure on the stock in the studied area.  相似文献

The population dynamics parameters of Diplodus annularis from the eastern middle Adriatic Sea were studied. Total lengths of 1704 specimens ranging from 3.3 to 23.0 cm were obtained from commercial and fishery‐independent catches (2000–2002). The species spawns from April through the end of August, with a peak in May. Overall male to female ratio was 1.00 : 1.05. The species is a rudimentary hermaphrodite in the Adriatic Sea. Total lengths (TL) at 50% maturity were 9.0 cm for males and 10.0 cm for females. These estimated sizes were smaller than the minimum legal landing size (MLS = 15 cm) and greater than the actual minimum landing size (Lc = 7.1 cm) for the bottom trawl net. All specimens sampled were fully mature above 13 cm TL. The oldest individual was 13 years old. Length–weight relationship showed close to isometric growth (b = 3.073). Parameters of the von Bertalanffy growth equation were: L = 23.95 cm; K = 0.126 per year; t0 = −1.664 year; r2 = 0.896. The low value of total mortality (Z = 0.72) was a consequence of the relatively low rate of natural mortality (M = 0.39) and fishing mortality (F = 0.33). The exploitation ratio was E = 0.46. Estimated parameters and the relative yield‐per‐recruit analysis did not indicate any overexploitation of the species in the study area. However, the estimates include uncertainties and require further confirmation, especially of the natural mortality.  相似文献

Growth parameters in pikeperch may be affected by several factors. The purpose of this study was to investigate the growth and length–weight of pikeperch in a reservoir in south‐western Spain and compare the results with previous published data. Age and growth are described for Sander lucioperca from the Alcántara Reservoir (south‐western Spain) from March to October 2009. A total of 285 fish were examined; the ratio of males to females was estimated as 0.78:1 and age ranges as 1–5 years. Total lengths ranged from 16.1 to 52.5 cm. The length–weight relationships were described as W = 0.00 462 TL3.09 (r = 0.9865) for males and W = 0.00279 TL3.16 (r = 0.9921) for females. Growth was expressed in length and the von Bertalanffy growth parameters were estimated as L∞ = 92.14 cm, k = 0.09, t0 = ?1.05 for males and L∞ = 107.72 cm, k = 0.08, t0 = ?1.16 for females. Growth performance indexes were also estimated as Φ’ = 2.88 for males and Φ’ = 2.96 for females. Differences in growth and length–weight relationships between sexes were not found.  相似文献

Age, growth and mortality of the sand smelt, Atherina boyeri (Risso, 1810), were studied in the Vistonis estuarine system in northern Greece from February 1989 to August 1990. Overall male : female sex ratio was 1 : 2.5, statistically different from unity. Total lengths ranged between 13 and 105 mm. Age determination based on scale readings showed that the population comprised five age‐groups. Sand smelt grew allometrically (b = 3.22) and rapidly during the first year, achieving 60% of their growth. Growth parameters of the population were: L = 116.97 mm, K = 0.35 year−1 and to = −0.99 years. Growth index ϕ′ was 3.69 of all individuals studied. The mean growth index was significantly lower for the Mediterranean lagoon (ϕ′ = 3.73, SD = 0.1) than for Atlantic populations (ϕ′ = 3.92, SD = 0.06). Total mortality rate was Z = 1.29 year−1 and natural mortality M = 0.95 year−1. Males had a lower life span than females, the latter dominating length classes >60 mm. Exploitation rate of the studied population was E = 0.26, suggesting that stock size might increase and generate improved possibilities for exploitation.  相似文献

The biology and fisheries of Tilapia mariae, the only tilapiine cichlid fish in the Iba Oku (Uyo, Nigeria) wetland stream was studied. There were more females than males in the population. The smallest sexually mature female fish was 11.0 cm total length (TL) while the size at 50% maturity was 17.1 cm TL. Absolute fecundity (Fe) ranged from 953 to 3200 eggs and was positively correlated with TL. The fish bred year‐round with peaks in November, March–April and July–September. The seasonalized von Bertalanffy growth function (VBGF) was fitted to the 12 consecutive months length–frequency data (n = 2439) to obtain a VBGF with the following parameters: L∞ (asymptotic length) = 30.4 cm TL, K (growth coefficient) = 0.4 year?1, C (amplitude of growth oscillation) =0.4, and WP (winter point) = 0.9. The seasonalized length‐converted catch curve method gave Z (instantaneous total mortality coefficient) as 1.75 year?1, M (instantaneous natural mortality coefficient) was 0.99 year?1 while F (instantaneous fishing mortality coefficient) was 0.76 year?1 and E (=F/Z the current exploitation rate) was 0.43. Length at first capture (Lc) was 17.7 cm TL. The fish was recruited to the fishery year‐round with two pulses. From the Beverton and Holt relative yield per recruit analysis via the selection ogive procedure, Emax (predicted maximum exploitation rate) was 0.54. The stock was not overexploited, since E < Emax. This study also showed that the fish is an r‐selected species with a few K‐selected traits.  相似文献

Age, growth and mortality were analysed for the common two‐banded seabream, Diplodus vulgaris, collected in the eastern Adriatic (Croatian coast) from commercial fishery catches by ‘tramata’ fishing (2005–2006) to obtain growth estimation. The oldest female was estimated to be age 11, the oldest male age 10 years. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters estimated by reading scales were: L = 48.60 cm (SE = 1.101), K = 0.112 (SE = 0.005) and t0 = ?2.366 (SE = 0.060) for all specimens; L = 51.96 cm (SE = 2.153), K = 0.095 (SE = 0.007) and t0 = ?2.837 (SE = 0.120) for females and L = 56.25 cm (SE = 2.662), K = 0.084 (SE = 0.067) and t0 = ?2.920 (SE = 0.117) for males. The overall sex ratio was 1.22 : 1 in favour of males. Total mortality, corresponding to the slope of the descending limb of the catch curve, was Z = 0.81 per year for females and Z = 0.85 per year for males. Exploitation ratios were E = 0.68 for females and E = 0.73 for males.  相似文献

Age, growth and mortality were analysed for red bandfish, Cepola macrophthalma, collected in the eastern Adriatic from May 2002 to June 2003. The oldest male was estimated to be age 4, the oldest female age 3. Parameters of the von Bertalanffy growth equation are: L = 55.0 cm (SE = 0.1), K = 0.445 (SE = 0.074) and t0 = ?0.1 (SE = 0.001) for males, and L = 48.9 cm (SE = 0.167), K = 0.395 (SE = 0.062) and t0 = ?0.009 (SE = 0.02) for females. The overall sex ratio was 1.42 : 1 in favour of males. Total mortality, corresponding to the slope of the descending limb of the catch curve, was Z = 1.20 per year for females and Z = 1.23 per year for males. Exploitation ratios were E = 0.479 for females and E = 0.433 for males.  相似文献

The life history characteristics of Aristotle’s catfish, Silurus aristotelis (Agassiz 1856) were studied in Lake Pamvotis (northwestern Greece). Samples were collected on a monthly basis using gillnets, trammel‐nets and traps. Total lengths ranged from 11.1 to 36.7 cm. Sex ratio was biased toward females (F : M = 1.8 : 1) and was statistically different from unity (χ2 = 46.94, P < 0.001). Spawning is from April to June. The relationship between total length and total weight showed positive allometric growth for males (TW = 0.0035 × TL3.21, r2 = 0.93, n = 198, P < 0.001) and females (TW = 0.0066 × TL3.02, r2 = 0.95, n = 363, P < 0.001). Age was determined on the annual growth marks formed on the spine of the pectoral fin. Based on cross‐section readings of the spine, lifespan of the Aristotle’s catfish was 5 years. Age classes 1 and 2 dominated the catches (39.1 and 40.0% of the total sample, respectively). Back‐calculated lengths at age showed a rapid increase in fish size during the first year of life, reaching 61.1% of maximum attainable length, and a declining growth rate thereafter. Growth parameters were calculated as L = 36.12 cm, K = 0.37 year?1, t0 = ?0.76 year based on the observed lengths at age and as L = 28.19 cm, K = 0.53 year?1, t0 = ?0.62 year based on the back‐calculated lengths at age. It seems that some of the life history traits (longevity, growth pattern, reproductive period) are influenced significantly by adverse effects of pollution and eutrophication on the lacustrine ecosystem.  相似文献

Seasonal changes in the selectivity of a 40 mm polyethylene trawl codend for common pandora (Pagellus erythrinus) were tested under similar fishing conditions in spring, summer and autumn 2002, and winter 2003. Data were obtained using the covered codend technique and analyzed using a logistic model fitted with the maximum likelihood method. Parameters of mean curves for each trip were estimated by using Fryer’s between‐haul variation model. To determine seasonal changes in the condition of the fish, samples were taken to cover the entire length range of the catch along with length measurements to the nearest mm and weights to the nearest 0.1 g. Results showed a tendency for decrease in selectivity from summer (L50 = 11.3 cm, SR = 2.2 cm) and autumn (L50 = 11.2 cm, SR = 1.7 cm) to winter (L50 = 10.7 cm, SR = 2.4 cm) and spring (L50 = 10.2 cm, SR = 2.9 cm). Potential effects of water temperature, fish condition, population size structure, and gonad developments on selectivity are discussed to explain the seasonal variation in trawl codend selectivity.  相似文献

This work contributes to the knowledge of the reproduction, growth parameters and mortality rates of Iheringichthys labrosus in a newly‐formed reservoir. A total of 554 males and 1227 females were collected over 12 consecutive months, 1998–1999, from sites in the Corumbá Reservoir, Brazil, using gillnets (meshes: 2.4–16 cm). Information on each individual, i.e. standard length (cm), weight (g), sex, and gonadal development phase was recorded. The pectoral spines were removed to estimate age. The number of juveniles and adults, males and females, reproductive sites and seasons were estimated. First maturation length was estimated using a likelihood function fitted by binomial distribution. Growth parameters were estimated using the von Bertalanffy equation. Total instantaneous mortality was obtained through a linearized catch curve method. Standard length varied from 6.0 to 20.5 cm. Growth showed negative allometry for both sexes. The reproduction period was August to December in all environments sampled and first maturation length was 11.5 cm. All individuals were adults with 17.0 cm standard length. Ages varied from zero to 7 years. Asymptotic length, growth coefficient and t0 for the entire population were 27.79 cm, 0.12 and ?2.64, respectively. Instantaneous and annual mortality rates were 0.90 and 0.59, respectively.  相似文献

Length-frequency data collected from fish landings in the Kenya waters of Lake Victoria were used to estimate the growth parameters, total mortality rate and growth performance index in Oreochromis niloticus. The asymptotic length, (L ) and the ratio of the total mortality rate (Z) to the growth constant (K), were estimated to be 64.6 cm and 3.219 respectively. K was 0.254 y-1, Z was 0.818 y-1 and the growth performance index θ′ = Log10 K + 2 log10 L∞ = 3.025, which is rather high as compared to other tilapia populations in natural waters.  相似文献

A sample of 346 Uranoscopus scaber (L., 1758) was collected from the southeastern Black Sea between January 2002 and May 2005 in order to provide information on age, growth, length–weight relationship, and stomach contents of this species. Total length and total weight of sampled fish ranged from 5.2 to 21.9 cm and from 2.0 to 182.5 g, respectively. The sex ratio (1 : 1.98) was biased toward females (P < 0.05). Isometric growth was determined in the population. Length–weight relationships for all individuals were described by the parameters: a = 0.0167, b = 3.00, with the r2 = 0.99. The population was composed of five age‐classes (I–V years). The von Bertalanffy growth parameters (±SE) and confidence limit (CL, 95%) for the entire population were: L = 26.31 ± 0.838 cm (CL: 24.66–27.96), k = 0.339 ± 0.023 1/year (CL: 0.294–0.385), and to = 0.087 ± 0.0346 year (CL: 0.019–0.155) (r2 = 0.96). Growth performance index (Φ) was 2.37. The diet was composed of Gobius sp. (2.2%),Trachurus trachurus (2.1%), Merlangius merlangus euxinus (4.3%) and unidentified fish species (17.4%); 39.1% were unidentified remains.  相似文献

Total lengths (LT) at age and growth rates for south‐west Pacific Galeocerdo cuvier were estimated from vertebral growth‐band counts of 202 sagitally sectioned centra from 112 females (71–430 cm LT), 79 males (72–351 cm LT) and 11 of unknown sex. Captive growth data were also examined to complement vertebral age estimations. The sexes combined modelled growth coefficient (k = 0·08) was smaller than previously reported for G. cuvier populations elsewhere. Split‐band and narrow banding patterns were identified as potential sources of age underestimation in this species.  相似文献

The study investigated the age, growth and sex ratio of Tinca tinca L., 1758 in Seyhan Dam Lake, Turkey and determined its first population structure data in the lake. Fishermen had introduced tinca into the lake between 2001 and 2002. A total of 1284 T. tinca (778 males and 506 females) were captured between January and December 2007 by gill nets of various mesh sizes. The sex ratio was 1 : 1.53 females to males. Total lengths and weights ranged from 12 to 29 cm and 27 to 403.3 g. Ages in both sexes ranged from 1 to 5 years. For all individuals the length‐weight relation and von Bertalanffy growth parameters were W = 0.063 × L2.51 (r = 0.981), and L = 50.86 cm, k = 0.112 year?1, to = ?1.551 year.  相似文献

Biological parameters such as age, growth and age (or size) at maturity are vital for stock assessment and management. Aging is essential in yielding such information. However, limited aging studies have been conducted for large tropical pelagic species in the eastern and central tropical Pacific Ocean. The objective of this study is to conduct a length frequency analysis for estimating growth and mortality of bigeye tuna in the eastern and central tropical Pacific Ocean using samples from the Chinese longline fishery during February to November 2006. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters of asymptotic fork length L and growth coefficient k were estimated at L = 207.4 cm fork length, k = 0.23 year-1, and theoretical age at zero length t 0 = −0.40 year. The total mortality rate (Z) was estimated to be 0.60; the fishing mortality rate (F) and the natural mortality rate (M) were 0.25 year-1 and 0.35 year-1, respectively. The exploitation rate (E) was 0.16. This study provides the estimates of growth and mortality rate for bigeye tuna in the eastern and central tropical Pacific Ocean, which can be used as biological input parameters in further stock evaluations in this region. However, age analysis, further validation of the age composition and stock structure are needed for future studies.  相似文献

Data on the length–weight relationship, age, growth, sex ratio and mortality were analysed for the Mediterranean sand smelt, Atherina (Atherina) hepsetus L. (total = 2805; males = 1258; females = 1547) collected in the eastern middle Adriatic island area during the reproductive period (February to April) in 2002. The total length of sampled specimens ranged from 3.8 to 14.5 cm and the weight from 0.28 to 22.39 g. The overall sex ratio was 1.23 : 1 in favour of females, significantly different from the expected 1 : 1 ratio (χ2 = 29.76; P < 0.05). All individuals >13.4 cm were females. The oldest collected male and female specimens were 5 years old. The von Bertalanffy growth formula was estimated for females (L = 15.79 (1−e−0.43(t+0.049)) and males (L = 15.25 (1−e−0.43(t+0.018)). The power values (b) of the length–weight relationship were very similar for both sexes (b = 3.14) and indicated a slightly allometric growth. The instantaneous rates of mortality for all collected fish were Z = 1.44 year−1; M = 0.94 year−1 and F = 0.50 year−1. The exploitation ratio was E = F/Z = 0.35. The value for M is highly uncertain, however, as well as those values for F and E.  相似文献
